***** Perico’s Tex-Mex & American Bar & Grill, 2401 Hancock Bridge Highway, Cape Coral, Florida 33990, (239) 829-0606.

Got a good Mexican/American joint for you…Perico’s Tex-Mex & American Bar & Grill in Cape Coral.

A few weeks ago Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats did the “visiting old New York friends who recently moved to Florida thing”–and ended up in Cape Coral (no insult intended to you Cape Coralians)-long story short, they (two couples) took us to Perico’s- a real casual/reasonably priced- Mexican/American joint with a huge bar area, out door patio, stage area, tons of flat screen tvs, live bands/entertainment 7 days a week…open 7 days a week 11am-7pm.

You can check Perico’s menu which is loaded with Mexican stuff, appetizers, burgers, wings, salads, sandwiches at pericosrestaurant.com…there is also an entertainment calendar which lists all kinds of live music entertainment covering doo wop, oldies, classic rock, country, Sinatra-smooth and blues.

Jeff Eats “sampled” in one form or another chicken/beef- tacos/burritos/enchiladas/quesadillas, fried pickles, fried zucchini, cheeseburger, Philly cheesesteak sub, steak fajitas, flan and fried ice cream…and I gotta tell you, everything was A-OK! Just so we are straight, nothing gourmet or sensational or outstanding going on here–just solid bar food-(now for the sentimental stuff) that when-eaten with folks- you’ve known for 30 years (who picked up the bill)- tastes absolutely great!

Let me wrap this up for you…

With or without friends, you’ll enjoy Perico’s Tex-Mex & American Bar & Grill.

* Election Day!

Today is Election Day.

Just got this e-mail from someone I don’t even know.

Jeff Eats isn’t trying to be political or nothing here.

Just-found this to be a nice read, on Election Day!

*****

Will you give this to my Daddy?

As a Company, Southwest Airlines is going to support ‘Red Fridays.’

Last week I was in Atlanta , Georgia attending a conference. While I was in the airport, returning home, I heard several people behind me beginning to clap and cheer. I immediately turned around and witnessed one of the greatest acts of patriotism I have ever seen.

Moving through the terminal was a group of soldiers in their camos. As they began heading to their gate, everyone (well almost everyone) was abruptly to their feet with their hands waving and cheering.

When I saw the soldiers, probably 30-40 of them, being applauded and cheered for, it hit me. I’m not alone. I’m not the only red-blooded American who still loves this country and supports our troops and their families.

Of course I immediately stopped and began clapping for these young unsung heroes who are putting their lives on the line everyday for us so we can go to school, work and home without fear or reprisal.

Just when I thought I could not be more proud of my country or of our service men and women, a young girl, not more than 6 or 7 years old, ran up to one of the male soldiers. He kneeled down and said ‘hi.’

The little girl then asked him if he would give something to her daddy for her.

The young soldier, who didn’t look any older than maybe 22 himself, said he would try and what did she want to give to her Daddy. Then suddenly the little girl grabbed the neck of this soldier, gave him the biggest hug she could muster and then kissed him on the cheek.

The mother of the little girl, who said her daughter’s name was Courtney, told the young soldier that her husband was a Marine and had been in Iraq for 11 months now. As the mom was explaining how much her daughter Courtney missed her father, the young soldier began to tear up.

When this temporarily single mom was done explaining her situation, all of the soldiers huddled together for a brief second. Then one of the other servicemen pulled out a military-looking walkie-talkie. They started playing with the device and talking back and forth on it..

After about 10-15 seconds of this, the young soldier walked back over to Courtney, bent down and said this to her, ‘I spoke to your daddy and he told me to give this to you.’ He then hugged this little girl that he had just met and gave her a kiss on the cheek. He finished by saying ‘your daddy told me to tell you that he loves you more than anything and he is coming home very soon.’

The mom at this point was crying almost uncontrollably and as the young soldier stood to his feet, he saluted Courtney and her mom. I was standing no more than 6 feet away from this entire event.

As the soldiers began to leave, heading towards their gate, people resumed their applause. As I stood there applauding and looked around, there were very few dry eyes, including my own. That young soldier in one last act of selflessness, turned around and blew a kiss to Courtney with a tear rolling down his cheek.

We need to remember everyday all of our soldiers and their families and thank God for them and their sacrifices. At the end of the day, it’s good to be an American.

RED FRIDAYS —– Very soon, you will see a great many people wearing Red every Friday. The reason? Americans who support our troops used to be called the ‘silent majority’. We are no longer silent, and are voicing our love for God, country and home in record breaking numbers.

We are not organized, boisterous or over-bearing. We get no liberal media coverage on TV, to reflect our message or our opinions. Many Americans, like you, me and all our friends, simply want to recognize that the vast majority of Americans supports our troops.

Our idea of showing solidarity and support for our troops with dignity and respect starts this Friday -and continues each and every Friday until the troops all come home, sending a deafening message that.. Every red-blooded American who supports our men and women afar will wear something red.

By word of mouth, press, TV — let’s make the United States on every Friday a sea of red much like a homecoming football game in the bleachers.

If every one of us who loves this country will share this with acquaintances, co-workers, friends, and family. It will not be long before the USA is covered in RED and it will let our troops know the once ‘silent’ majority is on their side more than ever; certainly more than the media lets on.

The first thing a soldier says when asked ‘What can we do to make things better for you?’ is…We need your support and your prayers.

Let’s get the word out and lead with class and dignity, by example; and wear something red every Friday.

WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE, ONLY BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE.THEIR BLOOD RUNS RED—- SO WEAR RED! — MAY GOD HELP AMERICA TO BECOME ONE NATION, UNDER GOD.

A recent e-mail from reader HF…

Jeff,

My husband and I have been reading Jeff Eats for a number of years. We both really enjoy your site and have tried many of the joints that you have recommended.

We are currently planning our oldest son’s bar mitzvah. It is scheduled for October, 2015. Based on your site, I know that you can appreciate what a huge project this bar mitzvah party is turning into.

Unlike most, we are going to do the entire service/party and our home in Miami. We are planning an outdoor event for close to 200 people.

We really enjoy putting things together by ourselves, so there are no party planners or other so called experts involved in the project.

We would really appreciate a suggestion on a Company that does terrific unique desserts. candies and carnival type novelty foods.

Thanks,

HF

HF:

South Florida has a ton of catering companies that do top shelf desserts, candies, etc…

One company-that pops into mind is Donut Divas & Fun Foods located in Miami.

Over the past several years, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats have “attended” a number of events in which it had a hand and Donut Divas always killed it.

Congrats-on the bar mitzvah…

Starbucks To Launch Delivery Service

* Starbucks To Launch Delivery Service.

Just read this story on aol.com/article/2014/10/31/starbucks-to-launch-delivery-service/20986822/…

Before -you read, I say it ain’t gonna work! Huge flop in the making!

There are so many reasons why it won’t work…for starters:

How do you keep the coffee piping hot during delivery? Or for that matter, ice-cold?
There are so many “variations” of coffees, tons of errors are bound to happen.
Literally, every home and office in America has a coffee machine-prepared coffee is one of the last items that Americans need to have delivered.

Your thoughts…
*****
Starbucks To Launch Delivery System
October 31, 2014

Gone are the days of waiting in line, red-eyed, waiting on your drink from your favorite barista.

Starbucks announced on Thursday that it’s planning a new mobile and online service that will delivery coffee, tea and snacks to your home or office.

Starbucks chairman Howard Schultz told investors on a conference call, “Imagine the ability to create a standing order of Starbucks delivered hot to your desk daily. That’s our version of e-commerce on steroids.”

The new service will debut in Portland, Oregon next month and spread to other locations throughout the country next year.

With so many food delivery services like GrubHub and other on demand services like Uber, some wonder why Starbucks waited so long. Is Starbucks late to the delivery game? Let us know what you think on Twitter at @AOL.

The Bronx Wanderers

Posted on October 31st, 2014 · Music/Events/Other · 5 Comments »

the bronx

* The Bronx Wanderers.

Reprinted below is a December 11, 2008 story that-Jeff Eats did on 50s-80s Rock N Roll cover band- The Bronx Wanderers.

In a nutshell, in the ensuing years -The Bronx Wanderers became a gigantic “act”…

No fooling here, this 2008 Bronx “bar band”- now plays to SRO crowds at- casino showrooms, theaters, festivals, country clubs and resorts all over the United States…the band has even had a reality tv show crew chronicle its daily movements!

Over the years, I’ve seen The Bironx Wanderers a handful of times-and the band definitely has a knack of keeping things “fresh”…trust Jeff Eats when I tell you that- there are just so many times that one person (even an Oldies fan like Jeff Eats) can handle hearing Sherry and Big Girls Don’t Cry…what makes the group a beautiful thing is that- 5 of its 6 members are in their 20’s bringing a hip cool-style/look/sound/vibe/energy to the classic-hits. By the way, the group’s middle-aged lead singer- keeps the Oldies’ purists happy -with fabulous “dead on” Valli, Dion, Maestro, Jay Black, Diamond covers. If this all sounds confusing, you-may appreciate my “take” on the band-after you see-it live!

If you are a fan of 50s-80s Rock N Roll, you gotta catch The Bronx Wanderers…this band is about as good as it gets!

Check the band’s website thebronxwanderers.com, there a number of 2014-2015 Florida dates in the making.
——-
December 11,2008
***** The Bronx Wanderers *****
December
I recently saw an absolutely phenomenal… Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons/Dion & The Belmonts’ tribute band called The Bronx Wanderers. In addition to featuring the hit-songs of these two legendary groups, The Bronx Wanderers have an enormous playlist of rock ‘n roll/disco hits from the 1950’s-1970’s. If “seeing is believing,” check-out the group’s website at www.thebronxwanderers.com where you will find terrific audio/video of these guys in action.

Watching this 5-member band, was like having Frankie and Dion right in front of the crowd. Amazing covers. Just so you know, these guys are also no slouches when they play the hits of such bands/acts (a partial list, in no particular order) as Jbay & The Americans, Johnny Maestro & The Brooklyn Bridge, The Bee Gees, KC & The Sunshine Band, The Monkees, Neal Diamond, The Duprees, The Capris, The Beatles, The Classics, The Village People, Santo & Johnny, The Commodores and The Trammps.

The only “problem” with The Bronx Wanderers is that they are a New York based group. They very rarely get-down to South Florida… as most of their appearances are in New York and New Jersey.

Now for the good news…If you check The Bronx Wanderers’ “schedule”…you will find that the band has a number of South Florida dates in (now get this) January, 2010. I know it’s along way-off…but if you can swing it, you definitely want to see this group in action.

If you like the music of Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons–Dion & The Belmonts…you will absolutely love The Bronx Wanderers.
