Lisa Lampanelli:
Lisa Lampanelli is Comedy’s Lovable Queen of Mean. Heralded as “more than a standup — a standout,” by comedy legend Jim Carrey, Lampanelli is a cross between Don Rickles, Archie Bunker, and a vial of estrogen. She even won accolades from The King of All Media Howard Stern, who called her “a true original and a brilliant comedy mind who’ll steal the show every time.” This equal opportunity offender is a regular on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” and Howard Stern’s Sirius satellite radio shows. She recently joined the ranks of comic greats and added her first ever one-hour HBO comedy special, “Long Live the Queen,” to her resume, with a CD and DVD of the special to follow. In addition, her first book, “Chocolate, Please: My Adventures in Food, Fat and Freaks,” will hit bookstore shelves on September 15, 2009. Lisa’s rise to the top of the comedy food chain began in 2002 when she was the only female comedian invited to skewer Chevy Chase on the NY Friars Club Roast on Comedy Central. She soon became one of the few white comedians to perform on BET’s “Comic View,” cementing her huge crossover appeal. A year later, she rocked Comedy Central once again in her back-to-back appearances on “Premium Blend” and on the enormously rated “Roast of Jeff Foxworthy” — again, the only female invited to roast the man of honor. Lisa appeared on Comedy Central’s “Last Laugh 2005” and her headlining performances on the Comedy Central roasts of Pamela Anderson and William Shatner, among others, received national attention. Lisa’s 2005 one-hour special, “Take It Like a Man,” was a hit with the comedy network yet again, and the CD and the DVD of the same name hit #6 on the comedy charts. Then, in January 2007, Lisa’s second one-hour special, “Dirty Girl,” debuted on Comedy Central and Warner Bros. Records, and reached #4 on the charts. Soon thereafter, “Dirty Girl” was nominated for a Grammy Award for 2007’s Best Comedy Album of the Year. Lisa has also taped several specials for VH1, MTV, and CMT, and was featured on the “Best of” episode of Comedy Central’s “Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn.” Known for saying things that most people are afraid to think, Lisa Lampanelli’s raunchy, gut-busting performances are wildly popular at theaters across the U.S. and Canada. Lisa appeared in “Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector” and had a featured role in “Delta Farce,” opposite Bill Engvall, Larry the Cable Guy, and D.J. Quall. She also starred in the feature film, “The Aristocrats” and, most recently, played a more maternal version of herself in the Owen Wilson vehicle, “Drillbit Taylor.” She is currently developing a pilot for a weekly series on HBO with executive producers Jim Carrey and Kario Salem.

* Dan Naturman–Like I Don’t Have A Crystal Ball, Or What!

Way back on August 12, 2014 Jeff Eats ran the below- “story” about Dan Naturman.

To make a long story short, comedian Dan Naturman will be appearing at the Palm Beach Improv (West Palm Beach) on Thursday 10/30, Friday 10/31, Saturday 11/1, & Sunday 11/2…tickets at palmbeachimprov.com are fetching 17 bucks. IF YOU WANT TO SEE NATURMAN–BE SMART AND IMMEDIATELY GO TO- goldstar.com (the discount ticket company Jeff Eats told you about on 8/26/14). …right now its got a handful of complimentary-tickets and a bunch of those $17 tickets priced at 7 bucks a piece.

Like I Don’t Have A Crystal Ball, Or What!
____
August 12, 2014

* Dan Naturman.

The guy is in the “final rounds” of this year’s America’s Got Talent” tv show.

Nothing for nothing, Jeff Eats’ gut says Naturman ain’t gonna win…not that he shouldn’t, but this year just ain’t the year for an absolutely hilarious-brilliant NYC Jewish comedian to win the $1,000,000.00 and get his own Las Vegas Showroom Show. You guys do know that besides being a TALENT SHOW-America’s Got Talent is also a REALITY SHOW–so being brilliant and hilarious sometimes isn’t quite strong enough to bring home the bacon. Now, if Naturman was also a blind paraplegic who had been raised by wolves in Tijuana, Mexico…this story would have a whole different ending.

To make a long story short…

After America’s Got Talent’s season ends…

Jeff Eats expects comedy clubs, condos, country clubs-to be booking Dan Naturman like crazy for 2014-2015…Just because Dan didn’t win, doesn’t mean he isn’t hilarious-brilliant. You guys do remember comedian Tom Cotter who came in second to some dog-act…Tom’s been working pretty steady ever since the loss!

Be smart, go and see THE GUY who should have won 2014’s America’s Got Talent show…when he “hits” South Florida–and Jeff Eats will eat my hat if he doesn’t!

Finally, if Dan Naturman happens to win America’s Got Talent–please forget everything that I wrote above.

You can checkout Dan Naturman at dannaturman.com.

Snowbirds’ 2014-2015 List!

image

* Snowbirds’ 2014-2015 List!

Saw an interesting thing yesterday…4 tractor-trailers loaded with cars with license plates from New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania-unloading in Boca Raton. Just guessing here, but Jeff Eats is thinking that some of you snowbirds, snowflakes or whatever name you go by-are getting a really early jump this year.

With the above in mind, I trotted out -First Trimester- a “story” that Jeff Eats did on August 23, 2014 that gave you a list of joints that you might like to try-while down here in sunny South Florida. That First Trimester thing is reprinted below.

As an early welcoming gift, I’m throwing you another bunch of restaurants-that are worth checking out…

Just so we are straight, the Jeff Eats’ site has a ton of dynamite joints listed, so don’t let these two- sets of picks cloud or limit your thinking! By the way, there are full reviews on all of the named restaurants- which will give you more color…

*****
* First Trimester!

Now I know- that it maybe a bit early for some of you “snowbirds” to be thinking about your upcoming trip-to Florida…but before you blink your eye, that trailer truck will be picking-up your car.

With that in mind, Jeff Eats “cooked up” (pun intended) a list of joints that you “should” checkout when you are down here. There are no rankings, there are no best this or that, just a good “handful” of restaurants that I think you will really enjoy. Name/Type/City-County are listed, you’ll have to look up full reviews/locations on Jeff Eats.

For you newcomers-to Jeff Eats…the site has a ton of joints for you to look-at…the ones listed today are right off the top of my head (this morning)…so cruse around jeffeats.com to get a feel for-where-my-head is and for other ideas/picks.

* Burger Beast (burgerbeast.com)

Jeff Eats gets all kinds of emails…

Jeff,
My husband and I are new to Florida. Just moved into Valencia Cove in Delray Beach via Long Beach, New York.

Your site was recommended by Judy K. as the place to read about all kinds of south Florida restaurants and events.

While surfing around we came across a load of other Florida food blog sites and were wondering which ones if any you really like?

Thanks,
The Gaines
*****
The Gaines:

First of all. welcome to South Florida.

Your email didn’t contain a list of “other” food blogs.

Just so you know, Jeff Eats reads a “ton” of sites every day.

No ifs and buts, one of my favorites is Burger Beast (burgerbeast.com).

I have been reading Burger Beast for over 5 years and it really has turned me onto some great joints. I will tell you, the site started out as a burger/fries site but morphed into a mini-Jeff Eats…covering all kinds of restaurants…it’s sort of like reading myself in one of those “funny” mirrors you see at amusement parks.

So…the combination of Jeff Eats and Burger Beast should keep you guys pretty busy-eating at some really cool joints.

Thanks for writing and enjoy your new home.

***** Nana G’s Chicken & Waffles, nanagchik-n-waffles.com, (404) 917-4065.

Nana G’s Chicken & Waffles is a food-truck/catering company based out of Atlanta, Georgia.

Jeff Eats recently had an opportunity to “try” Nana G’s food truck stuff out in Atlanta…and I gotta tell you that if it was up to me, one of its trucks would be parked outside my home in Boca Raton 24/7…the food was absolutely off-the-chart.

No fooling here, Nana G’s makes amazingly delicious fried chicken strips and waffles.

Rather than “describing” what I taste “tested”…I’ve printed Nana G’s menu for you guys. Just so you know, I did a Papa G’s and a Cousin G’s–like I said, off-the-chart.

For right now, the big problem that Jeff Eats has with Nana G’s Waffles & Chicken–is, it’s in Georgia, and not Florida…but, I understand that Nana G’s is working on a franchise program, that may result in trucks/catering coming our way in the near future.

Cascade Ice

cascade ice

* Cascade Ice.

Just between you, me and the bedpost, Jeff Eats loves the “all in” sodas like Coke and Pepsi. For some reason, I don’t like diet-sodas…they all seem to have an unpleasant after-taste.

To make a long story short, I know that if I literally drank Coke and Pepsi all day long, I’d be so big that I’d have my own zip code.

So…to prevent the zip code scenario and embarrassment on airlines, I’ve become a huge (pun intended) fan of flavored water. Now so there is no misunderstanding, I’m still into Coke-Pepsi etc. big time–but you will find a ton of water in the Eats’ frig.

Anyway,

Jeff Eats recently came across Cascade Ice…sparkling flavored water which is caffeine, calorie, gluten, sodium -free and I gotta tell you that the stuff is real good.

Cascade Ice comes in something like 31 flavors. In the past 3 weeks I’ve “downed” lemonade, citrus twist, orange mango, lemon lime, coconut. black raspberry and like I just said-real good.

You know and I know, that there must be 5,219,073 sparkling flavored water brands on the market–so why Cascade Ice? Real simple, about two weeks ago-Mrs. Jeff Eats brought “it” home from Publix-not sure here, but I think one of her girlfriends recommended it-so forth and so-on! Like I said, I find it to be a real good drink. Of note, I especially enjoyed the citrus twist -with the large pizza I recently took out from Boca Raton’s-Dean Anthony’s Express (latest review: 9/24/14).

Not much more to say here, other than you can check cascadeicewater.com for flavors/other info-and that Cascade Ice is sold in supermarkets/big boxes all over Florida.

“CONGRATULATIONS!
Our promotional department has authorized us to award you an 8 Days and 7 Nights Cruise for 2 Adults including $100 in Gas! Our records indicate that by responding within 48 hours you will also receive Roundtrip Airfare for 2 Adults!”

Now…every so often Jeff Eats- like most of you guys gets gas-just wondering how Norwegian Cruise Line “figures” just how much $100 in Jeff Eats’ gas equals?

I’ll catch you guys later as-I gotta get over to the post office to- send a $95 processing fee to Attorney Saleh Zipperhead in Zimbabwe who is holding $42,675,000 in trust for me which I inherited from Kukla Fran and Ollie.

Paul Revere

paul revere

* Paul Revere.

Just read-on latimes.com the very sad news that legendary rocker- Paul Revere passed away over the weekend…

Over the years, Jeff Eats must have seen and met Paul Revere & the Raiders something like 10 times. Always loved- the group, which from start to finish was fronted by Revere- no fooling, other than for lead singer Mark Lindsay (who was there for all of the hits) the band seemingly had “new” Raiders all the time-I’m guessing, but I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that over 300 different musicians filled the slots. One final thought, although the band had a hit in 1963 with Louie Louie-the record became a Rock N Roll footnote- when The Kingsmen’s “slurred” Louie Louie version (literally released the same day)-became a Rock N Roll anthem. The craziest part of the Louie Louie story, is that Paul Revere and the Raiders went on to have a 50 year career of hits while The Kingsmen ended up as a 1-hit wonder-band. You might also be interested in knowing, that the real money-earned by Louie Louie was made by its writer Richard Berry and The Kingsmen’s “take” was a real nickel & dime payday.

Printed below-Los Angeles’ Times article…
*****
Paul Revere, a teenage businessman who found an outlet for his entrepreneurial spirit in the form of a campy rock ‘n’ roll band that capitalized on his name, wore Revolutionary War-era costumes and cranked out a string of grungy hits in the mid-1960s, has died. The founder of Paul Revere and the Raiders was 76.

Revere died Saturday of cancer at his home in Garden Valley, Idaho, his longtime manager Roger Hart told the Associated Press. After a near-constant touring schedule in recent years, Revere retreated six months ago to his adopted home state because of health issues, said his tour manager, Ron Lemen.
————
Oct. 6, 6:52 a.m.: A news obituary in the Oct. 6 LATExtra section of Paul Revere, founder of the rock band Paul Revere and the Raiders, said Revere and Mark Lindsay wrote their 1965 hit “Just Like Me.” The song is credited to Richard Graham Dey and Roger Hart.
————
Along with singer and saxophonist Mark Lindsay, Revere, a keyboard player, formed a band called the Downbeats in Boise in 1959. Within a few years they would become Paul Revere and the Raiders, string together top-10 pop hits including “Kicks,” “Hungry” and “Good Thing” and become fixtures of Dick Clark’s weekday afternoon TV show “Where the Action Is.”

“Just Like Me,” a 1965 hit written by Revere and Lindsay, made the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s list of Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll.

“From day one, we’ve always been a party band that accidentally had some hit records and accidentally got on a hit television series,” said Paul Revere, seen here in 1969. (Associated Press)
Born Paul Revere Dick on Jan. 7, 1938, in Harvard, Neb., he grew up on a farm near Boise, where he learned to play piano. While still a teenager he opened a barbershop. At 18, with three barbershops to his name, he sold them to buy a drive-in restaurant and put together the band to attract young customers.

After some local success the Downbeats moved to Portland, Ore., in 1960 and with encouragement of their new manager, radio disc jockey Hart, renamed themselves Paul Revere and the Raiders. They recorded a 1963 version of “Louie Louie” that was eclipsed by another Portland garage band, the Kingsmen, but the Raiders were on their way to Hollywood.

Joined by early core members Drake Levin on guitar, Mike Smith on drums and Phil Volk on bass, the group performed a choreographed show in elaborate outfits complete with tri-cornered hats, brightly colored frock coats, white hose and knee-high black leather boots. In 1964, they signed a contract with Columbia Records as the label’s first rock act and caught Clark’s eye.

“From day one, we’ve always been a party band that accidentally had some hit records and accidentally got on a hit television series,” Revere said in a 2000 interview with the Associated Press.

“We were visual and fun and crazy and were America’s answer to the British music invasion. … We just happened to be at the right time and had the right name and had the right gimmick.”

Producer Terry Melcher honed the band’s hard-edged, guitar-driven sound with Lindsay, the front man, providing the vocals. The blond Revere was content to remain in the background playing organ.

Besides performing as the house band on “Where the Action Is” beginning in 1965, Paul Revere and the Raiders appeared on Clark’s later “Happening” shows as well as “The Ed Sullivan Show,” “The Tonight Show” and as themselves on the “Batman” TV show in 1966.

The band had 20 consecutive hits and reached its peak with John D. Loudermilk’s “Indian Reservation” at No. 1 in 1971, but a revolving door of band members and changing musical tastes led to its decline. Revere maintained a busy pace of touring and appearing at state fairs, casinos and clubs.

“After you’ve had some success, you’re afraid it’s gonna go away and you need to take advantage of it, so you work as hard as you can, because it might disappear tomorrow,” he told the Associated Press in 2000.

Revere’s survivors include his wife of 35 years, Sydney. A complete list of survivors was unavailable Sunday.

***** Raw Juce, 2200 Glades Plaza, Boca Raton, Florida 33431, (561) 424-JUCE.

You guys got to do Jeff Eats a huge favor…

Go to rawjuce.com–it will save me a boatload of time and effort trying to describe what this fresh juice, smoothie, salad joint is all about. Thanks!

Jeff Eats recently tried this order at/pickup at the counter joint- and its menu has a plethora (Like that word?) of fresh juices, smoothies, salads…handful of tables/handful of counter seats.

Now you know and I know-that nothing beats a bacon cheeseburger topped with grilled onions/side of french fries covered with ketchup/loads of Coca Cola-that said, every so often Jeff Eats has to play along with Mrs. Jeff Eats and Daughter Jeff Eats-who actually believe that by patronizing joints like Raw Juce and consuming the pricey products peddled-that somehow they’ve forestalled their respective visits to the Pearly Gates (I know -a bit over dramatic).

Anyway,

Jeff Eats “tried”…

CHOCOLATE SIN //Smoothie

Let me wrap this “story” up by saying…this kinda stuff really isn’t my game…but -if you play in this arena (notice how I worked a whole sports’ theme into this!) Mrs. Jeff Eats and Daughter Jeff Eats said to tell you-that Raw Juce is a top shelf joint!…and they loved it!

Raw Juce is open Monday-Friday 6:30am-7:30pm, Saturday-Sunday 7:30am-6pm.
