Why Do We Care?

* Why Do We Care?

Jeff Eats has asked this question before…Why should anyone in America give a rat’s ass about what Great Britain’s Royal Family does or doesn’t do?

THIS STORY is all over our media…

Didn’t we fight a war in the 1700’s to get away from these cats?- and this Queen, King, Prince, Princess, Duke Duchess nonsense?

Ye Olde Falcon Pub (Davie)

***** Ye Olde Falcon Pub, 2867 South University Drive, Davie, Florida 33328, (954) 424-0300.

Got a good British Pub for you guys…Ye Olde Falcon Pub in Davie.

falcon12falcon13falcon14falcon15

First things first, the joint looks exactly as you expect it to…dark wood, big bar, more dark wood, tvs, handful of arcade games, darts, booth and table seating…this one also has outdoor patio seating.

Ye Olde’s menu- a combination of British and American stuff…plenty of appetizers, soups, salads, burgers, sandwiches, wings, entrees, desserts- trust me, everyone in your party will find what to eat! The joint also has beers up the whazoo- 48 on tap and 14 bottles…so if you like beer, you’re set!

Since this is after-all a British Pub…

A recent dinner had Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats and another couple “trying”- fish & chips, bangers & mash, shepard’s pie, chicken pot pie and I gotta tell you everything was A-OK! If I had to do a pecking order, which I don’t have to, but I will- Jeff Eats loved the fish & chips ($12.99) and chicken pot pie ($9.95), the bangers & mash ($11.79) and shepard’s pie ($10.99) were decent enough, but personally-I wouldn’t be jumping at a second chance to order them again!

On the American side of the ledger, the philly steak & cheese sub ($10.99) and popcorn chicken ($9.79) that we threw into the meal-mix were right on the money! Just between you and Jeff Eats, the sub (Ye Olde calls it a hoagie-whatever!) absolutely killed- and if you “go” is a must-order.

Jeff Eats really enjoyed-Ye Olde Falcon Pub. Good food, terrific beer selection, very pleasant service, reasonable prices, plenty of dark wood!

You guys can check menu/prices/info at yeoldefalconpub.com.

Ye Olde Falcon Pub is open Sunday noon-4am, Monday-Saturday 11am-4am.

If you like Maryland Style Crab Cakes- you will absolutely love the ones that Backstreet’s Neighborhood Bar & Grill turns out. Just between you and Jeff Eats, I also love the joint’s charbroiled burger ($8.50) but Mrs, Jeff Eats recently told me that I eat too much red-meat…so the Crab Cakes got featured!

The joint has been around for something like 25 years- so Jeff Eats is thinking that it must be doing something right!

Printed down below is the “original” 12/20/08 tale…

Got a real-good neighborhood “American Style” joint for you…Backstreet’s Neighborhood Bar & Grill located in Wellington. By the way, back on April 16, 2008 I did a writeup on Backstreet Grille in Boca Raton…different joints with different owners…just so you know.

Backstreet’s has been around for something like 18 years. Its got a full bar, booth and table seating…nothing fancy, but it’s a very nice looking joint… your tee shirts and shorts will look great there.

Now let’s talk food…Backstreet’s menu is loaded with appetizers, salads, burgers, sandwiches, pizzas and meat/seafood/chicken entrees. I tried the… sliders, shrimp scampi, crab cakes, dill chicken salad on rye toast, chicken sinatra, philly cheese steak and blackened mahi in a grilled tortilla. Someone in Backstreet’s kitchen obviously knows how to cook, because the food is absolutely delicious.

Backstreet’s is NOT a sports bar. It’s prices are very reasonable. Its wait-staff is right on the money. The joint is open Monday-Saturday 11:30am-2am and Sunday 5pm-2am

SOPHIE, TOTIE & BELLE (Weisman Community Center- Delary Beach)

* SOPHIE, TOTIE & BELLE.

Last night Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats caught the musical-comedy Sophie, Totie & Belle at the Weisman Community Center in Delray Beach and I gotta tell you that we had an absolutely terrific time.

The show which -stars Stefanie Genovese as Sophie Tucker, Stefanie Lamay as Belle Bart, Christie Oliver as Totie Fields with Gary Waldman playing all-of the male characters is the story of a “meeting” of the show-biz legends- in Heaven’s Waiting Room! Some real nice singing, joke “telling” and biographical info made the 2 hour and 15 minute show (includes 15 minute intermission) literally fly by. Just between Jeff Eats and you guys, trying to “impersonate” three legendary-stars is a real tough task- that said, Stefanie, Stefanie & Christie did a nice job in their portrayals. All three actresses, gave the audience enough a “taste” as to why Sophie, Totie & Belle warrant a show about their careers in the first place. Gary Waldman did a great job playing various “male” characters in the lives of Sophie, Totie & Belle. Finally, Jeff Eats would be remiss not mentioning pianist Mark Galsky- who is the glue of the production!

Go see the show!

You ‘ll enjoy it!

Told you guys about this show way-back on April 6th.

Long story short, friends of mine saw the show and loved it!

Now between you, Jeff Eats and the bedpost, opinions are like a_ _ _ _ _ _ s everyone has one! That said, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats are going to catch Sophie, Totie & Belle this coming Friday, May 1st and -then the real Clive Barnes around here (me!) will you give you the skinny!

Finally, I just checked with the box-office and there are still a handful of tickets left for the run…so if you want to go-do what you gotta do!

Got a something real good for you guys…

SOPHIE, TOTIE & BELLE which is set to run at the Weisman Delray Community Center, 7091 West Atlantic Avenue, Delray Beach, Florida 33446 (561) 558-2100 from April 10th-May 31st…

Years ago, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats saw the Fort Lauderdale production of- SOPHIE, TOTIE & BELLE and I gotta tell you that this Musical Comedy was an absolute home-run!

Jeff Eats knows that casts-change…so we’ll have to see how 2015’s does- BUT- based on the “script” alone, I’m thinking this is gonna be a real good-one!

Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats are gonna pick up- a pair of tickets…

Papalani Gelato (Delray Beach)

* Papalani Gelato, 16800 Jog Road, Delray Beach, Florida 33446, (561) 536-5866.

Next week Papalani Gelatio a franchised gelato/hand-made chocolates/dessert/breakfast/coffee fast food “concept” out of Hawaii is scheduled to open in the Shoppes of Addison Place, 16800 Jog Road, Delray Beach.

This morning, Jeff Eats “peeked” in Papalani’s window and the store is almost set-to go…I will tell you, that it’s a real nice looking upscale “ice cream” store! No ifs ands or buts, the franchisee went for some nice cash building the joint!

If I got my geography-straight, Papalani Gelato is opening in the exact-same center that “now failed” Orange Leaf Self Serve Frozen Yogurt did back in April, 2010.

Only time will tell if this new player’s concept is strong enough to overcome a strip center which back in 2010, as well as today – literally had/has no foot traffic! Just between you guys and Jeff Eats, I have never been to a Papalani Gelato store, so, I have absolutely no idea as to how its stuff is…that said, a pretty thorough Google Search turned up some real nice “feedback” on its products/operation. Not to harp, but all I know is Jeff Eats’ mantra for “these” kind of fast food businesses is…location, location, location- but like I said 1.4 seconds ago, time will tell!

Papalani Gelato will be open Sunday-Thursday 6am-10pm, Friday-Saturday 6am-11pm.

You can follow the Papalani Gelato “story” at papalanigelato.com.

By the way Papalani Gelato currently has 4 opened-locations (2 stores in Hawaii, 1 store in Temple Terrace, Florida, 1 store in Brandon, Florida).
