Mr. Shen’s Peking Chinese Restaurant (Boca Raton)
***** Mr. Shen’s Peking Chinese Restaurant, 9228 Glades Road, Boca Raton, Florida 33434, (561) 482-1086.
Not exactly sure on this, but I’m thinking Mr. Shen’s has been around for something like 25 years.
Anyway,
Best way to describe Mr. Shen’s- a decent enough American Chinese Restaurant.
Jeff Eats got friends who swear by this joint…despite the fact that they are born and bred Queens’ boys circa- 1950’s-1960’s- they really don’t know dick (I know that this is suppose to be a family friendly blog site!) as to what constitutes real good Brooklyn Jewish American Chinese Food or in their case, what constitutes real good Queens Jewish American Chinese Food- applying 1950-1969 parameters.
Long story short, for as long as Jeff Eats has been down here (22 years)-at least twice a year- to keep the peace, I let these guys and their wives schlep me and Mrs. Jeff Eats to this Mr. Shen’s Chinese Restaurant joint.
Anyway,
Last night was the latest schlepping- wonton soup, egg drop soup, fried dumplings, egg rolls, bbq ribs, chicken fried rice, sweet & sour pork, pepper steak, shrimp with lobster sauce, roast pork chow fun and like I said 3.6 seconds ago, these guys don’t know dick as to what consitutes real good Brooklyn or Queens Jewish American Chinese Food applying 1950-1969 parameters. I will tell you, in all fairness- the egg rolls weren’t half bad!
If you are looking for decent- enough American Chinese food, checkout menu/prices/other info at shenspeking.com. If you are looking for real good Brooklyn/Queens Jewish American Chinese Food- as Dionne Warwick sang…”Walk on By.”
Mr. Shen’s Peking Chinese Restaurant is open 7 days a week 11:30am-9:30pm.

Fruit and Vegetable Diet
* Fruit and Vegetable Diet.
Just finished reading about-this diet on everydayhealth.com.
I’m thinking- this rodeo isn’t for this cowboy!
The way Jeff Eat sees it, if God didn’t want me to eat Five Guys burgers and Chinese boneless ribs- he wouldn’t have -let them build so many franchises and dumpy strip centers.

Fruit and Vegetable Diet
With all of the fad diets available, the fruit and vegetable diet has yet to become popular. Many people do not know about this easy to follow diet and those who do believe it is a vegan lifestyle and not one they are interested in pursuing. You may have to avoid some foods to prevent problems with your health. How long you will be able to follow this diet plan will depend on your weight and health so follow your doctor’s advice carefully.
Fruit and Vegetable Diet
This diet is not saying never eat meat. The proteins and other nutrients in meat are needed to help our bodies stay healthy. Most people do not eat enough fruits and vegetables and our bodies need other vitamins and nutrients to ensure good health.
Raw fruit is always the best choice for the nutritional value. If you have to change the way the fruit is served, cooked, baked or steamed is best, as boiling lowers the nutritional value. Juice does count as fruit, but it does not contain as much fiber, so eating the fruit itself is better for you.
Like fruits, vegetables are best eaten raw and they tend to have fewer calories than fruits. They also contain complex carbohydrates that our bodies do not convert as easily as sugar so you will feel full longer.
The table below manifests the best fruits and vegetables which can be included in your fruit and vegetable diet.
Fruits
The best choices:
Blueberries, strawberries, oranges, grapefruit, cantaloupe, apples (green have less sugar), cranberries (including cranberry juice), pears, boysenberries, papaya, blackberries, guava
Those should be eaten less frequently because of sugar content:
Bananas, grapes, dates, coconut, dried Fruit, canned and processed fruit
Vegetables
Carrots, broccoli, celery, green beans, mushrooms, turnip greens, tomato, artichokes, cabbage, collard greens, onions, lettuce, alfalfa sprouts, zucchini, leeks, turnips, Brussels Sprouts, eggplant, scallions, spinach, kale, okra, summer squash
Fruit and Vegetable Diet Plan
Going on a fruit and vegetable diet plan can help you lose weight, but lean meat can be included if you want it. If you want to try only fruits and vegetables, use this diet for 6 months then choose one helping of lean meat a day. By reintroducing meat slowly, you can keep from putting the weight back on and readjust to eating meat.
To lose weight properly, you need to eat several small meals a day to keep your metabolism working at its best all day. You cannot lose weight if your metabolism slows down because of hunger. Exercise is also needed to lose weight and maintain that weight loss.
Meal
Time and Recipe
Meal 1
Time: Breakfast
Recipe: 2 eggs (whites only, boiled), 1 slice of brown bread and 1 cup of green tea or black coffee

Meal 5
Time: Two hours later

Meal 6

You can lose weight quickly if you take this fruit and vegetable diet seriously. Always use non-fat add-ons when choosing a fruit or vegetable salad and limit dairy products. Make sure to drink plenty of water and eat nothing after 8:00 PM. Exercise is also needed to help lose weight.
Barone’s La Pizzeria (Margate)
***** Barone’s La Pizzeria.
I’m gonna save you guys the “trouble” of e-mailing me…to find out where Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats are going for Valentines Day-2015…
Just this very minute, I asked Mrs. Jeff Eats to make a reservation at Barone’s La Pizzeria which is one of our favorite mom & pop red sauce South Florida Italian joints.
We “did” Valentines Day-2014 there…and had an absolute blast.
By the way, if some of you guys are like Jeff Eats…Saturday, February 14, 2015! Your welcome!!
Anyway,
Printed down below, is- Barone’s La Pizzeria- Valentines Day’s 2015- “flyer”–Yeah, I caught the spelling errors,,, and some of the text doesn’t make sense… and there is no pricing…hey!- they are Italian restaurant guys- not Jewish Brooklyn lawyers-Capice! All I know, is Barone’s makes great food, has great service, has reasonable prices and its owners are the nicest people going! By the way, I see that falsetto-singer extraordinaire, Michael D’Amore will be performing…the guy absolutely kills!
So, if you want to go out- real easy nothing fancy schmancy- go call Barone’s at (954) 068-4396- find out what the “story” is and if it makes sense to you, make a reservation.
Printed below is Jeff Eats’ Barone’s La Pizzeria review from February 15, 2014.
Looking forward to seeing some of you guys there!
February 15, 2014
***** Barone’s La Pizzeria, 5632 West Sample Road, Margate, Florida 33073 (954) 968-4396.
Call it crazy, but at least once a week -Jeff Eats gets asked among other things-to name his favorite south Florida Italian/pizza joints…very flattering -to think that so many of you guys actually believe that I know what I am talking about…
Anyway…
Way back on June 28, 2010- Jeff Eats “reviewed” Barone’s La Pizzeria…and I gotta tell you, that over the ensuing years, Barone’s has become one of Jeff Eats’ “go to joints.” Personally, I would match Barone’s food/prices/service up-against the best “mom & pop” red sauce players in South Florida.
So…you now know where Jeff Eats goes when he is craving -outstanding New York Style pizza, amazing garlic knots, fabulous minestrone soup, delicious veal marsala—so forth and so on.
One final thought…Barone’s has been around for something like 40 years…that should tell you something!
The original (6/28/10) review is reprinted below.

***** Barone’s La Pizzeria, 5632 West Sample Road, Margate, Florida 33073 (954) 968-4396.
Barone’s La Pizzeria is a “Mom & Pop—red sauce” pizza joint located in Margate.
You can check its menu/prices at www.lapizzeriamargate.com.
You know and I know that “Mom & Pop” pizza joints are a dime a dozen-down here in old South Florida. I think the way it works…the strip center landlord first signs Publix, then Walgreens, then a Chinese takeout, then a pizza joint, then a dry cleaners…then a —-(you fill in the blanks)….then half of the businesses go bust…
Anyway, the other evening, I gave Barone’s La Pizzeria a shot- and I gotta tell you, the food is real-good. My party did pizza, shrimp scampi, veal parmigiana, meat lasagna, chicken & shrimp alfredo, penne ala vodka—and like I just said, real good.
As you know– over the past few years, old Jeff Eats has eaten-in his fair share of “mom & pop” Italian joints…and, to be perfectly honest with you, most of them barely get the job done, but then again, that’s the nature of the beast…”cheap is cheap”….”you get what you pay for”…”one if by land, 2 if by sea.” Trust me on this one, Barone’s La Pizzeria is REAL GOOD…if you live or work near the joint, I highly recommend that you give it a try.
By the way, Barone’s La Pizzeria is right across Sample Road from the Seminole Casino Coconut Creek and is maybe a 3-minute drive (west) from the Festival Flea Market on Sample Road.
Barone’s La Pizzeria is open Sunday-Thursday 11am-10pm and Friday-Saturday 11am-11pm
The Legendary Groups & Voices Of Doo Wop (Kings Point- Delray Beach)
* The Legendary Groups & Voices Of Doo Wop.
Just this very minute, Jeff Eats “picked-up”- 6 tickets online for January 24th’s- The Legendary Groups & Voices at Kings Point. Call me a big spender, but as a non Kings Point-resident, I had to pay 17 bucks instead of $14 per ticket.
Trust me on this one, I’ve seen Cleveland Still & The Dubs, Jimmy Gallagher (lead singer of The Passions) and Michael D’Amore and they all-put on a great show. Throw in guest appearances by- various members of South Florida based-The Doo Wop Mob and Johnny T (formerly of The Mystics)-and for $17 a head, Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats and some friends are gonna see a great doo wop show.
If this kinda stuff interests you…while I was online- I noticed that there were a handful of really good seats left. You can catch tickets at kingspointdelray.com.
Galo’s Tribute to Santana (Delray Beach Center For The Arts at Old School Square- Delray Beach)
* Galo’s Tribute to Santana.
Jeff Eats has seen this Santana tribute band…you’ll think that freaking Santana is on the stage!
This is a free-concert…
Just so you know, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats would love to have been there, but we already got tickets to see comedian- Bobby Collins over-by-where-we-live!
Catch good weather and this Galo’s Tribute to Santana event- should be a blast!
from delraycenterforarts.com

Sweet Dewey’s BBQ (Boca Raton)
***** Sweet Dewey’s BBQ, 9181 Glades Road, Boca Raton, Florida 33434, (561) 488-9688.
Homerun!
Last night Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats ate at Sweet Dewey’s BBQ in Boca Raton. Wanna- talk hole in the wall! Sweet Dewey’s which opened maybe a month ago- is something like 1,000 sq. feet- seats maybe 30 combined inside tables/handful of outside tables! This joint is so-small, that the layout doesn’t even allow for a soda dispenser…but don’t worry- its got plenty of canned sodas and bottled beers to wash down its reasonably priced food.
Sweet Dewey’s is the brainchild of Chef Dwayne Hooper and shopping center Landlord- Brian Bernstein…who correctly figured that Boca Raton needed a dynamite bbq joint-featuring the culinary skills of Hooper who previously tended shop at Saint Andrews Country Club, Polo Country Club and La Vielle Maison all in Boca Raton.
Trust Jeff Eats when I tell you that Sweet Dewey’s is a home run! Guaranteed-when word starts to spread about how good this joint’s food is- the eat-in/take-out lines are gonna be huge!
Rather then beating around the bush…the turkey chili, beef brisket, St. Louis bbq ribs, bbq chicken, cedar plank salmon, mac & cheese, corn bread, pecan pie absolutely blew Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats away!
You regular Jeff Eats’ readers know (or should know) that I’m not really a big-fan of smoked bbq stuff…that said, this guy Chef Dewey (in my book)- has this smoking thing down to a fine science- for sure the stuff is smoked, but “perfectly” done- if that makes sense to you! Every smoked item, was done just right-and not one thing came even close to being too smokey tasting.
Look! I could tell you as to- how the meat literally fell off the bbq bones…or that the homemade hot pecan pie was off the chart…or that the turkey chili had a great little kick to it…or that Sweet Dewey’s makes its own bbq sauce/has 5 flavors/and that Dewey’s Original BBQ Sauce kills, but I won’t… BUT- I will tell you, that Sweet Dewey’s is playing at a whole ‘nother level than 96.7% of the bbq joints that you probably- frequent down here in South Florida.
Anyway,
If you want to eat dynamite top quality bbq…you can check Sweet Dewey’s BBQ menu/prices/other info at sweetdeweysbbq.com.
The joint is open 7 days a week 11:30am-9pm…and if you wear anything but your tee shirt/shorts/flip flop ensemble, you’re gonna be over-dressed!
Burger Guide
* Burger Guide.
Got a website for you guys to check-out…Burger Guide- theburgerguide.com.
This Burger Guide site- has “Best Burger Lists” for cities/states/countries, burger recipes, burger reviews, burger pictures, burger stories and other stuff about burgers.
I’m thinking (that is, if you’re into burgers) it may give you some ideas…if not, it didn’t cost you nothing to look!
