***** Pizza Johny’s, 9529 Southwest 72nd Street, Miami, Florida 33173, (305) 364-5574.

Got a real good- actually make that a terrific pizza-joint for you guys, Pizza Johny’s in Miami.

Simple tale to tell…

Pizza Johny’s is the real deal.

Looky here!

Jeff Eats knows what a New York Pizza joint is suppose to “taste like”- “smell like”- “sound like”-“look like” and like I just said, Pizza Johny’s is the real deal. Hole in the wall/order at-pickup at the counter/handful of tables/full boat of pizzas (and slices)-pastas- calzones-strombolis-subs-pastas-entrees/reasonable prices/super pleasant counter people.

Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats recently did lunch and I gotta tell you that Pizza Johny’s blew us away. The joint’s cheese slices were dead on NYC (thin-crisp/sweet sauce/gooey cheese/nice fold/enough oil drip) and its meatball parm sub/garlic rolls/stromboli (pepperoni, sausage, peppers, onions, mozzarella) had us thinking we were back in Brooklyn- 1966! Of course the slices weren’t 66’s- 15 cents or nothing- but that’s a whole nother story for a whole nother day!

Anyway,

Jeff Eats knows and you guys know that all of this NYC pizza “stuff” is solely a subjective call- what I might think is the real deal, you may find to be absolute crap and as phony as a 3 dollar bill!

So, I’m gonna close this chat- by saying, I loved Pizza Johny’s and I know what I am talking about- so there!

You can check menu/prices/info at pizzajohnys.com.

Pizza Johny’s is open, Monday-Thursday 11am-9pm, Friday-Saturday 11am-10pm, Sunday noon-9pm.

A recent e-mail to Jeff Eats.

Jeff,
Big fan of your site.
You got some great picks.
I know that you closely follow the music scene here in south Florida.
My HOA is trying to put together a big party in Spring 2016.
I was wondering if you could recommend a great well known recording “oldies-doo-wop” group that isn’t played out in the area?
Your help is much appreciated.

A certain kind of magic happens when The Classics step onto the stage and begin sailing from one song to another”

Emil Stucchio and The Classics’ unique style puts them in a class of their own. They received their recording contract in 1959 and their first release “Cinderella” hit the national Top 100.

In 1963, The Classics released TILL THEN which sold over 5 1/2 million records and was voted #6 on the all time Top 100 records on CBS FM! Their follow-up P.S. I LOVE YOU in 1964 was also a top 40 record.

They have received national acclaim for their top-selling CDs. Intimate Reflections is a collection of beautiful standards, featuring “Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me” and “Somewhere”. Their Gold Dust CD includes their own songs, along with “Cara Mia” and “You’ll Never Know”. Embracing the rich music of their grandparents, La Musica D’Italia offers these great Italian favorites: “Statte Vicino Amme”, “O Solo Mio” and “Mala Femmina”. Their CD, Club Illusion, is a collection of all-time favorites, including “Old Songs”, “Hungry Years”, “For Your Love”, “Hurt” and “Wildflower”.

The foundation of The Classics is the outstanding original lead voice of Emil Stucchio. Completing the circle of style and blend are Al Contrera (featured on “When You’re Smiling” from Club Illusion) and Teresa McClean, lead voice on “You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me”. To the pleasure of their many fans, Teresa and Emil sing together in “You’ve Got What It Takes” and “Since I Don’t Have You/Only Make Believe”, both found on Club Illusion. Their popularity has continued to grow as shown by a recent radio survey, where they were voted 6th most popular out of 500.

Their latest CD release A Moment in Time has gotten rave reviews nationwide. It includes great songs such as “Put Your Head on My Shoulder”, “I Who Have Nothing”, “Wonderful, Wonderful”, and “If You Love Me”. It also features two great duets by Emil and Teresa, “Our Day Will Come” and “History is Made at Night” (from the NBC hit “Smash”) as well as a rousing version of “River Deep” by Teresa. The Classics continually hit the mark with beautifully orchestrated arrangements by Tom Schizzano

With over 50 years of entertainment experience and excellent vocal talents, The Classics continue to receive rave reviews from audiences and producers from coast to coast, including Atlantic City and Las Vegas. The addition of an Italian show adds to the versatility of The Classics, along with the songs and humor, for which they are noted. From Fifties to Standards, from Italian to today’s sounds, their shows, complete with outrageous comedy routines, are professional in every way. The Classics add a special touch to every show. They are truly a class act.

Recent performances include New York City’s Radio City Music Hall, The Metropolitan Museum, Carnegie Hall and Town Hall; The Tropicana Hotel, The PNC Bank Arts Center and The IZOD Center (in NJ); The Convention Center Arena (in NV), Mohegan Sun Casino and Westport Country Playhouse (both in CT); The Philharmonic Performing Arts Center and The Kravis Center for The Performing Arts (in FL), The Capitol One Theater in Westbury (NY), The American Music Theater (in Lancaster, PA), Crystal Gateway Hotel (in VA), The Paramount Theater (in KY), The Kimmel Center (Philadelphia, PA), Long Island NY’s Nassau Coliseum, many luxury cruise lines and numerous national television appearance as well.

The following are comments from various people in the entertainment field: “The Classics brought the house down at the Hawaii Kai!” (David Hinckley); “They knocked my socks off!” (Pat Cooper); “Can’t wait to have you back!” (Bill Gatos – Tropicana Hotel); “What a way to start a show!” (Jerry Vale); “Show stopping performance!” (Tony DeLauro); “You guys are a class act!” (the late Richard Nader – producer at The IZOD Center); “Another spectacular show!” (Dick Fox); “I put them up there with anybody; sensational!” (Sal Richards).

Latest Reviwe: 1/4/15

Red Cow is one of the best bbq joints that Jeff Eats has been to- down here in South Florida.

The joint makes a- Corn Bread that is absolutely off the chart. That skillet-portion easily feeds 4- people!

I’m gonna let you read my 1/4/15 “review” for the joint’s details…

I would be remiss if I didn’t tell you -that Red Cow’s beef ribs and prime rib alone- are worth the drive from wherever you live or work!

***** Red Cow, 1025 North Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33304, (954) 652-1524.

Last night Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats and another couple ate in a bbq-joint named Red Cow. Just this simple, some of the most delicious bbq-that I’ve eaten in a very long time.. By the way don’t quote me, but I’m thinking the joint has been open something like 18 months!

I’d be lying to you-if I actually tried to explain the bbq-“style” Red Cow uses…I know that I have kids who went to sleep away camp in Asheville, North Carolina… I’ve flown over Dallas at least 23 times and I recall having been to Atlanta, Georgia 7 times- but I’m just not qualified to tell you styles.

Anyway,

Like I said 2.3 seconds ago, some of the most delicious bbq-going! For sure, I can tell you that the stuff is definitely “smoked”- but not smoked where the smoke overwhelms everything. I can also tell you, that Red Cow “uses” dry rubs and 3- actually make that 4 types of bbq-sauce if you want to “customize” your bbq.

Let me tell you what Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats and another couple “tried”…but before I do, I just want you to know, that Red Cow’s portions are ENORMOUS- so when you go, figure on sharing “dishes”- you’ll “save” some cash and- just as important, get to try-all kinds of stuff.

The folks who own Red Cow know what they are doing, they have a menu that has a handful of appetizers and salads, a list of bbq entrees that literally allows you to mix and match what shows up, a load of sandwiches, sides and desserts. Before Jeff Eats gets to the “eating”…I wanted to mention that our waiter Garrett was amazing-good. He knew the menu cold, made great recommendations and made sure that the beer and soda glasses were never empty.

Last night our party of 4- had…iron skillet corn bread, chopped salad, beef ribs, baby back pork ribs, beef brisket, pulled pork, prime rib, rotisserie chicken, corn fritters, corn on the cob, cowboy mashed potatoes, jalapeno cheddar sausages, fried brussel sprouts, coleslaw, peanut butter/white chocolate tart with vanilla ice cream. Hey! I already told you that the portions were enormous and the joint lets you customize what shows up on your plate. Just so you don’t get scared- or nothing- the most expensive item on the menu the- Eat More Meat Combo runs 23 bucks and I’m telling you, it can easily feed 3 people (unless one of the 3 is my friend Bobby G. who clocks in around 287, wears a size 52 suit and claims to have some kinda gland problem).

Now, nothing for nothing- I tried everything…and of course- some stuff was better than some other stuff! I will tell you, that the chopped salad (shallot Dijon vinaigrette), beef brisket, prime rib, wagyu beef ribs, cowboy mashed potato and chicken were absolute dynamite and I do mean dynamite. Not to be too repetitive, everything we had was delicious, but the stuff I just mentioned- really caught my attention.

At this stage of the game you can check redcowftl.com for menu/prices/info.

Finally, real cool casual décor, full liquor bar, large tv screens, you can wear shorts/tee shirts/flip flops and the odds say-you’ll leave with a bag full of leftovers.

Red Cow is a winner. You definitely got to try this joint!

Red Cow is open Monday-Saturday 11:30am-10pm, Sunday for brunch 9:30am-1:30pm and then 1:30pm-9pm.

September 18th National Cheeseburger Day!

Posted on September 19th, 2015 · American Boca Raton · No Comments »

This article first appeared on September 18th…quick update, last night- Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats “tried” the complimentary Tanzy Burger- Just between you guys and me, I’m thinking for my taste- that I would have preferred the burger better- if it was simply topped with American cheese, bacon and sautéed onions- but that’s just me! On the other hand, Mrs. Jeff Eats’ tastebuds which are far more eclectic than mine, thought that the Tanzy Burger was dynamite and that she would definitely order it again!

* September 18th National Cheeseburger Day!

Tanzy Restaurant, 301 Plaza Real, Boca Raton, Florida 33432, (561) 922-6699, “invited” Jeff Eats to “try” this burger!

Chow time- 7:15pm

Just between you guys and Jeff Eats, every -day is sorta like National Cheeseburger Day to me- but I’m gonna play along with Tanzy anyway!

I’ll let you know what I thought- comp or no comp- tomorrow!

By the way, if you want more info on Tanzy Restaurant- Jeff Eats got a 6/11/15 “review.”

tanzee

Tanzy Restaurant’s bun-stuffing good burger, the Tanzy Burger, is a testament to getting all the details exactly right. It sounds simple: a wood grilled 10 ounce Angus patty with apple-wood smoked bacon, smoked Gouda, beefsteak tomato, and arugula on toasted rosemary focaccia. But like so many simple things, you’ve got to get it exactly right; the creamy Gouda cheese is melted so that there is a taste in every bite, the bacon is crisped to perfection, the arugula is peppery and the bun is buttery and herbaceous.

Available for both lunch and weekend brunch, this absurdly juicy burger is the best beefy bite around.

Tanzy Restaurant is open Monday-Thursday 11:30am-10pm, Friday 11:30am-11pm, Saturday 11am-11pm, Sunday 11am-10pm.

Steve was Jewish, he had a stamp collection.
