Pizza Girls (West Palm Beach)
***** Pizza Girls, 114 South Clematis Street, West Palm Beach, FLorida 33401, (561) 833-4004.
Got a real good pizza joint for you guys, Pizza Girls in West Palm Beach.
Real easy concept to explain…handful of tables inside/outside, order at/pickup at the counter, menu loaded with- subs (Pizza Girls calls them heroes), pizza slices/pies, calzones, pizza rolls, salads, wings and a handful of other stuff…By the way, in addition to the Clematis Street joint, the Pizza Girls have a food truck that works Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties-you can peruse Pizza Girls’ menu and food truck schedule at pizzagirls.com.
Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats recently did-dinner which netted us…an All Beef Hot Dog Rolled in Mozzarella Cheese & Pizza Dough, a Chicken Parmesan Sub (Pizza Girls calls it a Chicken Parmesan Hero), a Calzone stuffed with Ricotta, Mozzarella & Parmesan Cheese, a Slice of Cheese Pizza and a Greek Salad and I gotta tell you- everything was pretty much right on the money! For those of you who insist on “gory details”- Jeff Eats really enjoyed the cheese pizza- thin/crisp/sweet sauce same for the sub-calzone-salad, could have done without the hot dog! Now, on the other hand, Mrs. Jeff Eats who “rated” everything as being delicious- had the hot dog as her favorite item!- which once again proves Jeff Eats’ point that this food “reviewing” gig is purely a subjective exercise and what I may like, you on the other hand- may hate!- or as the legendary philosopher Sly Stone famously pronounced:
“Everyday People”
Sometimes I’m right and I can be wrong
My own beliefs are in my song
The butcher, the banker, the drummer and then
Makes no difference what group I’m in
I am everyday people, yeah, yeah
There is a blue one
Who can’t accept the green one
For living with a fat one
Trying to be a skinny one
Different strokes
For different folks
And so on and so on
And scooby dooby dooby
Oh sha sha
We got to live together
I am no better and neither are you
We are the same, whatever we do
You love me, you hate me, you know me and then
You can’t figure out the bag I’m in
I am everyday people, yeah yeah
There is a long hair
That doesn’t like the short hair
For being such a rich one
That will not help the poor one
Different strokes
For different folks
And so on and so on
And scooby dooby dooby
Oh sha sha
We got to live together
There is a yellow one
That won’t accept the black one
That won’t accept the red one
That won’t accept the white one
Different strokes
For different folks
And so on and so on
And scooby dooby dooby
Oh sha sha
I am everyday people

THE NYSE GUYS (Century Village- Deerfield Beach)
* THE NYSE GUYS.
Jeff Eats has been a huge- NYSE GUYS’ fan for years. Absolutely love these guys. Three first class-lead singers who “cover” the greatest hits of the 40s-50s-60s-70s.
The reason for today’s mention- saw them the other night at the Boca Black Box in Boca Raton and once again The NYSE Guys blew me away with 2-hours of great vocals/audience patter…so Jeff Eats thought he would share that…
THE NYSE GUYS’ next scheduled “public” show- Century Village, 2400 Century Blvd, Deerfield Beach, FLorida 33442, (954) 421-2556 on Saturday Night, November 28, 2015 at 8pm…if you’re a Century Village Resident- tickets are $10, if you are a Non-Resident- tickets are $15…tickets can be purchased at cveevents.com.
Trust me on this one, if you like the music of the 40s-50s-60s-70s, then you will love The NYSE Guys!
Just in case you need some convincing as to how good these guys really are…

THE NYSE GUYS
Willie, Peter and Chas are The NYSE GUYS — a three-man vocal group from Orlando. The trio performs Motown, Oldies, Doo-Wop… featuring the hits of Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons,
Neil Diamond, The Beach Boys, Dion & The Belmonts, Jay & The Americans and plenty of “Rat Pack” tunes with their own twist. With their three different and distinct vocal styles, each sings solo, duet and then accent it with some very smooth three-part harmonies.

Time to put things to rest…these aren’t The Temptations or The Four Tops that many of us “grew-up” with! Imagine if New York Yankee- Hector Lopez was in Left Field and the other 8-players on the field were No-Name Rookies!…Imagine if New York Met- Ron Swoboda was in Left Field and the other 8-players on the field were No-Name Rookies!

Bagel City South (Boca Raton)
***** Bagel City South, 6006 Southwest 18th Street, Boca Raton, Florida 33433, (561) 393-5383.
In recent days, Jeff Eats has seen a number of tractor trailers loaded with cars with New York and New Jersey license plates- unloading their “cargo”- so to save time, let me answer the inevitable “best bagels” questions by reprinting this Jeff Eats’ article from February 23, 2015…

***** Bagel City South.
Jeff Eats recently received this e-mail…
Jeff,
Long time reader.
I know you don’t like or really do ‘best’ lists.
Indulge me, if it came down to just one south Florida joint, which one would it be for bagels?
I won’t tell anyone.
Thanks,
Anthony Franza

Anthony Franza,
You know that ‘best’ lists really aren’t my game…that said, if you promise not to tell anyone!
And- thanks for reading.

Bagel City South makes some of the best New York styled bagels and bialys in South Florida. The stuff is made the old fashioned way, that being hand rolled, boiled and then oven baked.
The joint is open 7 days a week for breakfast and lunch. Great place for appetizing, burgers, deli, eggs and of course those fantastic bagels/bialys.
Sassy waitresses and talkative countermen add to the New York flavor. This is a real good one.

DISH OF THE WEEK (Sunday- 10/25/15- La Veranda Italian Restaurant- Pompano Beach)

One of Jeff Eats’ favorite menu items…
VEAL PARMIGiANA
$21.95
La Veranda Italian Restaurant
2121 East Atlantic Boulevard
Pompano Beach

Latest Review: 7/19/2008
Jeff Eats is a huge La Veranda- fan! I love its veal parmigiana (it comes with salad, garlic bread, pasta side). Trust me on this one, everything this joint makes is real good!
Now, no fooling here- I’ve eaten in La Veranda tons-of-times and I can’t recall even one-time when there wasn’t a line to get in. The bet here is that the joint just might be doing something right!
Give La Veranda a shot, Jeff Eats is thinking that you definitely won’t be disappointed!

***** La Veranda, 2121 East Atlantic Boulevard, Pompano Beach, Florida 33433 (954) 943-7390.
La Veranda is a white-table-cloth Southern Italian joint that isn’t full of itself. I am not sure how long La Veranda has been in business, but I am going to guess 20+ years. Just so you know, indoor/out door patio seating- full liquor bar area.
La Veranda’s food is delicious…Over the years I have eaten in this joint something like 10 times…lobster fra diavlo worth killing over. The veal parmigiana, chicken marsala and the shrimp scampi ain’t bad either. Very good wait-staff. No more expensive than your favorite neighborhood red sauce joint.
Like I said, this is a white-table-cloth joint…but your tee shirt/shorts/flip flop “outfit” works!
La Veranda is open Tuesday-Sunday for dinner. It has an absolutely enormous following, so be smart and make a reservation.
Richie Cheesesteak (Spring Hill)
***** Richie Cheesesteak, 6191 Deltona Boulevard, Spring Hill, Florida 34606, (352) 600-7999.
Real simple tale to tell you…absolutely killer philly cheesesteak and meatball parmigiana subs…
You already- know the “décor”- order at/pickup at the counter!
Trust Jeff Eats, these subs are off the chart-delicious!
Richie Cheesesteak is open Monday-Thursday 10am-9pm, Friday-Saturday 10am-10pm, Sunday-closed.
* Halloween 2015. With Halloween 2015 fast approaching, long-time reader CHARLES asked Jeff Eats to re-run “Halloween 2014” which ran in Jeff Eats on October 27, 2014. If you enjoy the re-run, thank you! If you don’t, blame CHARLES! ___________________ Halloween-2014! * Halloween-2014! Remember when you were a kid? H A L L O W E E N ! Jeff Eats, Brother Jeff Eats and our friends sure did have fun back in the 50’s “hitting” every apartment in our 6-story Brooklyn apartment building. Just between you and me, the Eats Brothers- loved getting all the candy, but our favorite trick-was the pennies, nickels, dimes and occasional quarters that some of our neighbors would throw into our bags…for some reason, we really enjoyed the day after Halloween going to Sam’s Candy Store on Cortelyou Road, between East 9th Street & Coney Island Avenue and picking out-our own stuff with the Halloween loot. All things being equal, I’m thinking with inflation and all–that in “today’s money” we probably cleared about 12 bucks a piece. Keep a secret? Loved- those Chunky Bars and still do! Anyway, back to the present…”THIS”-sure would have made it a lot easier on the girls in my BUILDING… Enjoy the local South Florida festivities-from what I’m hearing and reading, seems like every mall, sports bar- has something cooking this year.Halloween 2015
