* Jeff Eats Does Passover-2016!

Jeff Eats is absolutely certain that right about now- each and everyone of you guys is wondering- What are Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats doing for Passover this year?

To put your respective minds at ease, this year both the first night and second night of Passover will be celebrated at Jeff Eats’ home in Boca Raton.

Jeff Eats is not exactly sure as to what “food” will be served to invited family and friends, but I do know that Mrs. Jeff Eats has placed takeout orders with both Zinger’s Delicatessen in Boca Raton and The Boys Farmers Market in Delray Beach.

For you guys not familiar with one/or both of the above establishments- the “reviews” down below should give you some idea as to who- Mrs. Jeff Eats has chosen to the roll the dice on-for Passover 2016!

Finally, just between you guys and Jeff Eats- I’m kinda thinking that Mrs. Jeff Eats is gonna run the table – this Passover…you gotta figure that the lady (after-all she is Mrs. Jeff Eats) knows whose stuff-is dynamite and won’t embarrass her in front of her middle sister- Marcia or her friend of 42 years-Ellen!

* “Zinger’s Delicatessen–1 Year Anniversay”

About a year-ago, I told you guys about Zinger’s Delicatessen which had just opened in Boca Raton. One year later–some things bear repeating…

Zinger’s Delicatessen is one of the best, if not the best–New York Kosher Style Deli in South Florida.

I have “reprinted” Jeff Eats’ August 18, 2011 review…and it needs “only” three minor changes:
1: Zinger’s is open 7 days a week for lunch/dinner and for breakfast on Saturday-Sunday,
2: Zinger’s “current” potato knishes are as good as the pushcart-ones I mentioned.
3: Zinger’s website is up and running.

If real New York Kosher Style deli is your game, you gotta try Zinger’s Delicatessen!

Posted August 18, 2011
***** Zinger’s Delicatessen, 7132 Beracasa Way, Boca Raton, Florida 33433, (561) 826-7323.

If, delicious- New York Kosher Style Deli is your game—you absolutely, positively have to give Zinger’s Delicatessen in Boca Raton a try.

For you fressers out there…Zinger’s in a “former” life, was Pastrami Queen (see 9/12/08 writeup)…to make a long story short, family “matters” resulted in Pastrami Queen closing in late 2010. This past Tuesday, Zinger’s opened for business—for our purposes, SAME OWNER!–NEW “NYC” DECOR!–SAME TERRIFIC FOOD!

Last night I ate dinner at Zinger’s.

Zinger’s is located in the exact-spot where Pastrami Queen was. Gary Zinger who owned Pastrami Queen is Zinger’s owner. The restaurant’s layout hasn’t changed, but the decor has…let’s just say, that stainless steel walls/ceiling and art-deco signage rival the best-deli decor here and in NYC. The joint has 3-flat screen tvs and a takeout counter that will make you want to quit Weight Watchers.

Let’s talk food…

To be perfectly honest with you, I seriously doubt that there is a better New York Kosher Style Deli down here in South Florida. I’ll even go so-far as to say, Zinger’s Delicatessen can easily hold its own with legendary players like NYC’s- Carneige, Stage, 2nd Avenue and Katz’s delis…if you aren’t a native Nooo Yoorker, please feel free to insert your hometown favorite delis’ names.

Just so you know, I was a Pastrami Queen “regular”…so, it was absolutely impossible to eat-at Zinger’s, shall we say incognito. The meal was “on the arm” with Gary Zinger literally having me “try” everything in the joint. Take it for what it’s worth, the pastrami, corned beef, brisket, turkey off the bone are as good as it gets. The joint also makes- delicious, potato pancakes-chopped liver-tuna salad-chicken salad-matzoh ball soup-smashed French fries-Italian beef sub.

Just so we are straight…don’t want you to think that I’m a Zinger’s shill—I’ve eaten better potato knishes—like the ones I, my father and brother Andy use to get in 1958 from the pushcart stationed right outside of Fortunoff on Livonia Avenue in Brooklyn while waiting for my mother to finish shopping.

Trust me on this…Zinger’s is a homerun.

Like I said before, I tried a load of stuff. I will tell you, that the sandwiches being delivered to the tables were nice-sized… I didn’t see one group leave without a doggy bag… and no one bitched to Gary about the service/prices.

Zinger’s website is www.zingersdelicom. The site is currently under construction, so give it some-time to get up and running.

Zinger’s does breakfast, lunch and dinner…The joint is open 7 days a week 7am-10pm.

***** The Boys Farmers Market.

Jeff Eats first “reviewed” The Boys Farmers Market on 5/6/2009.

That review is reprinted below.

It is now some 5 1/2 years later- and I just wanted to tell -new as well as old- Jeff Eats’ readers that I LOVE this joint-and if you live or work anywhere-near The Boys Farmers Market make it your business to shop there…trust me, you will be thrilled that you did!

***** The Boys Farmers Market, 14378 Military Trail, Delray Beach, Florida 33484 (561) 496-8123.

If you can “handle” its parking-lot…with senior citizens “backing in and backing out” non-stop…The Boys Farmers Market is an absolutely great place to shop for fruits, fresh squeezed juices, vegetables, baked goods, cheeses, wines, candies, seafood, meats, coffees and prepared chicken/seafood/meat dishes.

Just guessing here, but The Boys’ probably has something like 30,000 square feet of indoor space jammed with top quality FOOD. All the free samples that you’d like…and everything sold, runs circles around joints like Publix, Winn Dixie and Albertsons, not to mention-probably cheaper.

My family has been shopping at The Boys Farmers Market for years…and I have been amazed by two things…namely, that we have never been involved in a fender-bender in its parking lot & the great stuff that it sells.

The Boys has its own bakery, squeezes its own juices and prepares its own “take out” food. This joint is an absolute-winner. If you live in the Delray Beach area, you probably already know about The Boys…for those of you who don’t, you got to go shopping there…just be careful in the parking lot.

The Boys Farmers Market is open 7 days a week.

***** Stan’s Super Subs And Deli, 26880 Old 41 Road, Bonita Springs, Florida 34135, (239) 992-9973.

Got a real good sub joint for you guys, Stan’s Super Subs And Deli in Bonita Springs.

Just between you guys and Jeff Eats, sub joints in Florida are like Chins in a Chinese phone book- that being that there are a ton of them! With that in mind, some of the joints are of course better than others- and I gotta tell you that Stan’s Super Subs which has been around since 1972 makes real good hot & cold subs/soups/salads. If Stan’s was by my Boca Raton house (as you can see from its address it isn’t), I’d be a real steady customer. Just a quick observation, Stan’s Subs has been in business for something like 44 years- the way I’m thinking -is that the “guy” must be doing something right to have been around that long- unless “he” is a sicko and likes losing money or something! Big thick sandwiches, nice “soft” fresh sub bread, delicious fillings, reasonable prices, super nice folks at the counter, clean ladies’ room (per Mrs. Jeff Eats- didn’t want you guys to think that Jeff Eats is a “perv” or something)) and Jeff Eats is a happy camper!- Just that simple!

image

Long story short, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats did a recent-lunch at Stan’s and I’m now giving you guys a heads-up about the joint which is open Monday-Saturday 10am-7pm, closed Monday.

Got an absolutely amazing donut-joint for you…Jupiter Donut Factory in Jupiter.

I guarantee- that after eating this joint’s- glazed, bacon maple walnut, sour dough, chocolate glazed donuts you’ll want to enroll in Jupiter’s Police Academy. Being a drop too old to start a new career, Jeff Eats in homage to Jupiter Donut Factory- will henceforth be known as Jeff Eats Andy Sipowitz or JEAS, for short!

No fooling around, Jupiter Donut Factory makes some of the most delicious donuts that I have ever eaten. For sure, this “mom & pop” joint-has bagels, breakfast sandwiches, coffee, smoothies but the game here is DONUTS.

Not to editorialize or nothing, but…once you have had Jupiter’s donuts, you’ll have a very serious problem eating the stuff that Dunkin Donuts and Krispy Kreme serve-up.

Jupiter Donut Factory is open 7 days a week 6am-2pm.

Luigi’s Coal Oven Pizza…coal oven pizza, coal oven chicken wings, salads, a handful of appetizers/calzones/sandwiches/desserts—based on the menu, Luigi’s which opened a couple of weeks ago, obviously- isn’t trying to cure cancer or re-invent the wheel.

Let’s talk food—A recent dinner had me “testing”- house salad ($9.95-enough for 3), chicken wings (10 wings $8.95), 16″ tomato pizza pie ($13.95), sausage/peppers/onions panini ($8.95)…Trust me here, everything old Jeff Eats had-was right up there with the best stuff served up-by South Florida’s “other” coal oven pizza joints.

Luigi’s is so new, that it doesn’t-yet have a website. So, sorry…can’t send you anywhere for menu/prices/pictures. Just so you know, it looks “just” like all the rest and its price points, just like all the rest.

Luigi’s is open Monday-Thursday 11am-11pm, Friday-Saturday 11am-3am, Sunday 11am-10pm.

***** Pizzoodles, 56 Royal Palm Pointe, Vero Beach, Florida 32960, (772) 567-4160.

This is a very simple tale to tell- Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats and another couple did a recent dinner at red sauce Italian joint Pizzoodles and its food blew all four of us away! If Pizzoodles was-by Jeff Eats’ Boca Raton home, I’d be one-very-steady customer! The joint covered every base- delicious food, super competent service, reasonable prices, big portions! For you guys who need further inducement to try Pizzoodles- the joint’s garlic rolls and cheese pizza alone were worth the Boca Raton to Vero Beach car ride!

For those of you who maybe thinking that Jeff Eats has lost his edge or something- the name Pizzoodles “in my humble opinion” s-u-c-k-s big time!- and that Boca Raton to Vero Beach car ride “line”- is just my way of telling you folks who live or work in Pizzoodles’ neighborhood, that the joint is an absolute must try!

You can check Pizzoodles.com for menu/prices/info.

Pizzoodles is open Monday-Friday 11:30pm, Saturday-Sunday 4pm-9pm.

Real simple tale to tell you guys- the Red Fox Diner in Lighthouse Point is one of Jeff Eats’ favorite Florida “mom & pop” diners. Over the years, I’ve eaten tons of time in this breakfast-lunch/counter/booth/table seating joint and I can’t recall even one single time when the food and service weren’t right on the money! If your’e into “mom & pop” diners- Red Fox Diner is an absolute must try!

If you like “mom & pop” neighborhood diners, you will definitely want-to-try the Red Fox Diner in Lighthouse Point. For sure, the joint must be doing something right-as its been around for something like 40 years. You can check menu/prices/loads of photos at www.redforxdiner.com.

Regular readers know, that “diners” like this hold a special place in old Jeff Eats’ heart. For some reason, joints like the Red Fox take me back to a time when America wasn’t so complicated. Maybe I’m getting old, but I kinda think that the America of the 50’s without all of the big box stores, shopping malls, McDonald’s, cable stations and facebooks—was a much nicer place to live…You do recall ABC, CBS, NBC, WOR, WNEW, WPIX (for you New Yorkers out there) and that was about it, don’t you?

The Red Fox Diner does breakfast/lunch. The joint is open Monday-Friday 6am-3pm and Saturday-Sunday 6am-2pm.

Over the years, I must have eaten in the Red Fox Diner something like 10 times. The joint’s menu has loads of breakfast stuff, sandwiches, salads, burgers, meat/chicken/fish entrees. Absolutely nothing fancy going on here…I will tell you, that the Red Fox’s 1/2 lb cheeseburger is one of the best “diner” burgers I’ve had- same goes for the joints’ chicken philly cheesesteak sub.

The Red Fox Diner is located “in-line” in a non-descript Lighthouse Point strip center. Some of you guys may disagree, but I find sitting outside at one of its three outdoor tables–to be far more enjoyable than people watching from some uptown joint’s patio on West 73rd Street and 9th Avenue in Manhattan on a sunny day.

If you are looking for the way breakfast and lunch use to be and should still be, you gotta checkout the Red Fox Diner.

A recent e-mail to Jeff Eats…

Hey Jeff Eats,

My husband and I just moved to Boynton Beach from Bayside, New York. Our Boynton Beach address is ___________________.

We are looking for a really good takeout/delivery only pizza joint in our area. We are not looking for the national chains. In Bayside there are joints that only do takeout/delivery with no eating at the location. We find that many of those joints did a better job on the food because their owners didn’t have to be bothered with running a sit down eat in restaurant as well as the takeout business. Any name you can provide will be appreciated.
Thanks,
BTD

Old Style Pizza & Wings which is open Sunday-Thursday 3pm-9pm, Friday-Saturday 3pm-10pm describes itself as…
