Got an absolutely dynamite seafood/diner joint for you guys, Bates New England Seafood & Subs in Winter Garden.

Jeff Eats is thinking- husband is cooking, wife is waitressing in this maybe-half-dozen table joint.

Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats and another couple recently “did” lunch and the food absolutely killed!

Like I said a few seconds ago, Bates’ food is absolutely off the chart!

The suggestion here is that you try and get to “it” before a guy- like Guy Fieri from tv’s Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives tells everyone and their mother about Bates!-because when he does, we’ll all be standing in line to get in!

Bates New England Seafood & Subs is open Suday-Monday 11am-7pm, Tuesday-Wednesday 11am-8pm, Thursday-Saturday 11am-9pm.

Two Rock n Roll Dream Shows!

Posted on April 13th, 2016 · Music/Events/Other · No Comments »

* Two Rock n Roll Dream Shows!

To All Florida Music Show Promoters:

Jeff Eats thinks that either “one” of these shows would be Standing Room Only Affairs down here in Sunny South Florida!

Not gonna name names, but enough already bringing us the same doo wop/Rock n Roll retread national acts year in and year out! For sure, we all love The Temptations and The Four Tops-but hey- Ruffin, Kendricks, Stubbs are no more…and The Turtles are fun but -how many times can you “trot out” that Happy Together Tour?

Jeff Eats will bet you guys a buck that most Floridians aged 55+ have never seen Dion or Ronnie live-in-concert! They both can still “really” sing, so let’s get busy and make these shows happen!

The way I see it, if the folks in Brooklyn, Bethel NY and elsewhere can see Dion and Ronnie- then the folks in Florida- should also be able to see them! Heck, Dion lives in Boca Raton- so you won’t even have to pay travel expenses for him!

In closing, nobody and Jeff Eats means nobody- is getting any younger here or for that matter elsewhere! Time to bring in “fresh” legendary performers before…

Thanks,

Jeff Eats

DICE

Posted on April 11th, 2016 · Music/Events/Other · 3 Comments »

* DICE.

Last night legendary comedian Andrew Dice Clay’s new half-hour series DICE premiered on SHOWTIME…and I gotta tell you Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats really enjoyed the R-rated premiere!

If you got SHOWTIME give the series a shot- for sure it’s no – All In The Family but I’m kinda thinking you’ll enjoy Dice’s take-on-life!

If you guys do some checking, Jeff Eats in a past tale (11/27/14) told you how Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats first met Dice on February 14, 1990 and we’ve been huge fans since. Take it for what it’s worth, Andrew Dice Clay (real name-Andrew Clay Silverstein) despite his public persona is just- a nice Brooklyn born and bred “Jewish Boy” looking to make a good living and taking good care of his family!

Anyway,

Check the series out..

SHOWTIME announced that its new comedy series DICE will premiere on Sunday, April 10th at 9:30PM. ET/PT. The scripted, semi-autobiographical series will follow the life of renowned comedian, Andrew Dice Clay, chronicling the stops and starts of his career resurgence in his transplanted home base of Las Vegas.

The series stars Kevin Corrigan & Natasha Leggero and features guest-stars: Lorraine Bracco, Adrien Brody, Michael Rapaport and Criss Angel.

Created by Scot Armstrong (Old School, The Hangover Part II), DICE chronicles life in the Vegas suburbs, as Andrew Dice Clay tries to live his life while trapped in the skin of “The Diceman.” Whether he’s attempting to pay back his gambling debts, manage his sons’ heavy metal band or fend off pumped up fans, this show shines a light on the sides of Dice we’ve never seen before. Yet all the while he dons his trademark black leather jacket and fingerless gloves, ready for a comeback.

For those of you who maybe interested…

The below picture of Jeff Eats and Andrew Dice Clay was taken on February 14, 1990. By the way, Since that date, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats have “run into” Andrew Dice Clay something like 5 times and like I said before a nice Brooklyn born and bred “Jewish Boy”…

Andrew Dice Clay’s Autobiography
Just finished reading- Andrew Dice Clay’s recently released (11/11/14) Autobiography -“The Filthy Truth” and I gotta tell you it’s a very interesting read.

For those of you who just landed from Mars, Andrew Dice Clay is one of America’s most famous-controversial comedians.

Whether you are pro-or-con on Dice, I seriously recommend that you give this book a read. A real fast paced telling-of the rise, fall and resurrection of a Brooklyn Jewish Kid in the entertainment industry.

Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats first met Dice on February 14, 1990 at the Concord Hotel in Kiamesha Lake, New York-we ate dinner with him, his fiance Trini, his body guard Kenny and Kenny’s wife and we were seated together in the Hotel’s showroom-on 2/14 and 2/15…and I must tell you, Andrew Dice Clay was one of the most pleasant and engaging “stars” that we have ever met. From that weekend to date, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats have been huge fans of this comic genius.

Like I said before, people either hate or love the guy…

Read the book (I got my copy on Amazon.com)-it will definitely give you some insight as to what makes the now 57 year old-Dice…tick!

Latest Review: 3/12/14

If you are looking for a real good New York Kosher Style Deli (and who isn’t?) that does breakfast, lunch and dinner- you gotta checkout Ruven’s in Boynton Beach.

Jeff Eats singled-out the joint’s pastrami on rye for special mention- that said, trust me when I tell you- it’s all good at Ruven’s! Of course some-things are better than other things, but Jeff Eats is kinda thinking that you’ll really-enjoy whatever Ruven’s serves up!

image

Just between you guys and Jeff Eats, when you walk into Ruven’s- its look/its smell/its vibe is gonna have you thinking your’re in a NY Kosher/Kosher Style Deli somewhere in the 5- boroughs!- and you won’t have to hold down a second job to be able to pay the check!

Ruven’s is open 7 days a week 8am-8:30pm.

Back on February 20, 2011 Jeff Eats told you guys about Ruven’s a New York Kosher Style Deli that had just opened for business in the San Marco Shopping Center in Delray Beach. To make a long story short– Ruven’s opened in a spot where two bagel/delis had previously failed. I guess, Ruven’s owner, Steve Ratinetz was betting on real good food and “three times the charm” to make Ruven’s a winner…

Anyway…

Here it is 3-years later and Ruven’s is “sort-a” still around. Now follow me, a few months ago, Ratinetz moved Ruven’s…3 maybe- 4 bays down-into a store formerly occupied by Lenny’s New York Grille.

Anyway…

No doubt in Jeff Eats’ mind…the ‘new” Ruven’s is now in a much better spot–that being right next door to Publix. Same food and service-with the “new” Ruven’s featuring a really cool “lower NYC east-side” circa 1940-1950 decor. Having eaten in Lenny’s numerous times, I can tell you-that Ratinetz did a great job in combining his own decorative ideas with Lenny’s decor remnants.

Just wanted to re-introduce you guys to an old-favorite of mine.

Now…Does Ruven’s qualify under the “three times the charm” rule?

Bingo!— Home Run!

If you are looking for a terrific-New York Kosher Style Deli—your wish has been answered. Say hello, to Ruven’s which opened last Wednesday in Delray Beach. For right now, the joint is open 7 days a week from 8am-3pm—look for “dinner” to be added sometime in late March.

Just some background info… “this” Ruven’s is owned by Steve Ratinetz who in the mid 1990′s-2003 owned/operated Ruven’s in Plainview, New York—which was an absolutely terrific kosher deli. My January 25, 2011 Ruven’s of Long Island writeup- has more “history” if you are a history-buff.

You know and I know, that South Florida has more bagel delis than you can shake a stick at…just for the record, Ruven’s is not and I repeat the word NOT, a bagel deli. For sure, it has the requisite “500″ types of bagels, bialys and onion boards—that said, this joint is all about pastrami- corned beef- brisket- turkey- stuffed derma- potato pancakes- blintzes, chopped liver-stuffed cabbage-fried kreplach-matzo ball soup—that rival the best stuff served in NYC, Chicago…or for that matter, anywhere that you formerly called home.

If there is one thing that Jeff Eats knows—it’s good deli.

This afternoon, in no particular order– I did a “taste test” of pastrami, corned beef, brisket, turkey off the bone, matzo ball soup, cabbage soup, stuffed derma, potato pancakes, chopped liver. fried kreplach…absolutely delicious.

Based on Jeff Eats’ “maiden outing”—I’m putting Ruven’s right up there with South Florida’s best New York Kosher Style Delis. Throw-in huge portions at reasonable prices…and I can’t see Ruven’s not quickly developing an enormous following.

You now know about a terrific deli—this one is a keeper!
