The Dairy Queen® System Proclaims the End of Winter Five Days Early With Free Cone Day on March 15
Donations will be accepted for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals®
MINNEAPOLIS – In the Dairy Queen® system, a Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE: BRK.A and BRK.B) company, winter is over and spring has officially begun on Tuesday, March 15 with a Free Cone Day benefiting Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals®.

“We want everyone to celebrate our official kick-off of spring by enjoying a signature DQ® cone on us,” said Barry Westrum, executive vice president of Marketing for American Dairy Queen Corporation (ADQ).

Throughout the day, participating non-mall Dairy Queen and DQ Grill & Chill® locations across the U.S. will serve fans a FREE small vanilla soft-serve cone with the signature curl on top (limit one per customer while supplies last).

“Last year’s success of Free Cone Day surpassed all expectations and we have our fans to thank for that,” added Westrum. “Together we raised $140,000 in one day for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and we averaged serving more than 1,330 cones per store. We are looking to surpass those numbers this year. We can’t wait.”

Soft serve is part of the DQ system’s brand DNA and the taste is unmatchable. The DQ soft-serve cone fans have come to love is one of the most recognized treats in the world. It’s fondly referred to as the “cone with the curl on top.”

During Free Cone Day, the DQ system is accepting donations for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, which raises funds to help save and improve the lives of kids treated at 170 children’s hospitals across the U.S. and Canada. Over the last 30 years, the Dairy Queen system has raised more than $100 million for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals in local communities.

Price Of A First-Class Stamp To Go Down!

Posted on March 14th, 2016 · American Music/Events/Other · 4 Comments »

* Price of A First-Class Stamp To Go Down!

Take a look at this “Price Of A First-Class Stamp To Go Down!” article Jeff Eats just read at money.cnn.com.

Sounds good to me, but it got me to thinking- that 2 weeks ago Jeff Eats paid $1.73 99/100 for a gallon of gas and yesterday I paid $1.88 99/100 for the same gallon of gas at the same gas station…

This American economy is so rigged against “us” people- that it’s actually scary!

“Give with one hand and take with the other.”

_________
Price Of A First-Class Stamp To Go Down!
For the first time in nearly 97 years, the price of a stamp is set to go down.
On April 10, a first-class stamp will cost 47 cents, down from its current 49-cent price.
The reduction is part of a pre-arranged agreement with Congress. The Post Office got to increase the price of stamps by 3 cents in 2014 to help it raise $4.6 billion in revenue. But the price hike was only set to last two years. (It gets to keep one cent of the increase to keep up with inflation).
The Post Office is practically begging Congress to let it keep stamps at 49 cents. It says rolling back prices to 47 cents will cost the already badly bleeding Post Office $2 billion a year.
“Removing the surcharge and reducing our prices is an irrational outcome considering the Postal Service’s precarious financial condition,” said Postmaster General Megan Brennan in a prepared statement. “Our current pricing regime is unworkable and should be replaced with a system that provides greater pricing flexibility and better reflects the economic challenges facing the Postal Service.”
Congress has pegged stamp price increases to inflation, which has barely budged over the past decade.

The Post Office is still reeling from the Great Recession, when its sales fell by $7 billion in 2009 alone. The Postal Service says that package volume is way up over the past few years, but it’s “not nearly enough to offset the decline in revenues” from first-class mail.
Standard mail, such as first-class letters and postcards, make up 76% of the Postal Service’s sales — all of which have prices capped by Congress.
Postcard stamp prices will drop by a penny to 34 cents, and international stamps will cost $1.15, down from $1.20.
There’s hardly anyone alive who remembers the last time the price of a stamp fell. That was in July 1919, when first-class stamp prices dropped from 3 cents to 2 cents.

Real simple story here, the joint makes a first-class chicken noodle soup…

The Salad Spot works for- both you guys who like to “watch” what you eat- and you guys (like Jeff Eats) who eat everything “not nailed down”!

***** The Salad Spot, 690 Yamato Road, Boca Raton, Florida 33431, (561) 997-0039.

Right off the bat, let me start by saying that it wasn’t Jeff Eats’ idea to try The Salad Spot in Boca Raton. To be more precise, it was Mrs. Jeff Eats and Daughter Jeff Eats’ idea. Now with “that” out of the way…last week the three of us caught lunch at The Salad Spot. To sum the joint up, a huge help yourself salad bar that features-I’m guessing at least 70 different items that you “build” your own salad from -at $7.49 lb…throw in a handful of soups, wraps and prepared salads and you got the picture. Fast-food type seating inside and outside.

Now nothing for nothing, but you guys do know that Jeff Eats’ food of choice- is Carnival Food…burgers, French fries, pizza, onion rings, bbq ribs, sausage & onions sub, carmel corn, cotton candy, candied apples, fried anything!

Now back to The Salad Spot…

Jeff Eats thought that The Salad Spot had a terrific selection of “rabbit” stuff…that the joint was spotless…and that the Italian meatball soup/grilled chicken salad-green peppers-red onions- honey wheat wrap were quite tasty.

The verdict…As Mikey’s brother once said, “Mikey likes it!”

So…to all you vegans (I do- believe that’s what some of you vegetarians are calling yourselves these days),”healthy” eaters and gluten free guys, don’t say that Jeff Eats’ never did anything for you!

Jeff Eats can’t quite let this one go just yet…you vegans, “healthy” eaters and gluten free guys really have no idea as what you are missing–not devouring a fried Twinkie topped with chocolate ice cream, a mound of whipped cream and bacon bits.

You can check www.thesaladspotboca.com for menu/other stuff.

The Salad Spot is open Monday-Thursday 10am-5pm, Friday 10am-3:30pm, closed Saturday and Sunday.

* A Tribute To The Jersey Boys And More- Featuring Michael D’Amore.

Literally 5 minutes ago, the Boca Black Box added A Tribute To the Jersey Boys And More- Featuring Michael D’Amore to its show lineup!

Trust Jeff Eats on this one, if you’re a fan of The Four Seasons, doo wop and 50s-60s Rock n Roll you gotta go see A Tribute To The Jersey Boys And More- Featuring Michael D’Amore! Jeff Eats & Mrs. Jeff Eats recently saw the 90 minute production and the 6 member band received 11 standing ovations and had the audience singing/dancing in their seats and the aisles all night!

Just between you guys and Jeff Eats, the band’s lead singer, Michael D’Amore has an absolutely huge Southeast & Southwest Florida following…Rather than try and “explain” D’Amore’s talent to you- do yourself a favor and check him out at michaeldamore.com and you’ll have some idea as to what I’m talking about!

There is absolutely no question in Jeff Eats’ mind that A Tribute To The Jersey Boys And More- Featuring Michael D’Amore is going to be a Standing Room Only situation- so if you wanna go, get your tickets as soon as is humanly possible (I know a bit over dramatic)…

from bocablackbox.com
New York born and New Jersey raised Michael D’Amore brings an authenticity and light heartedness to the stellar sounds of the 60’s. Being from N.J. and possessing a strong falsetto voice naturally resulted in a love of The Four Seasons songs. Michael was the featured performer at the honor ceremony for original Four Season member Tommy DeVito performing for the music industry’s elite as well as the cast of Jersey Boys.

Michael has been an opening act for groups such as The Stylistics, Tommy James, Gary US Bonds and Tony Orlando to name a few. Having opened for and performed with many iconic sixties artists, Michael has developed the Jersey Boys and More tribute show in collaboration with musical director Tim Goodman. This is a “Clap Along, Sing Along, Dance in Your Seat” kind of show. It is not only a walk down a musical memory lane, but a fun time with an exciting band featuring world class touring musicians that have played with Bobby Vinton, Jerry Lee Lewis, Lou Rawls and so many great artists.

This will be a fun filled evening of music covering not only The Four Seasons hits but the sounds of an entire era.

*****. Direct From Philly, 1201 South Military Trail, Deerfield Beach, Florida 33442, (954) 428-7035.

Got something absolutely terrific for you guys into- Philly chicken and steak- cheesesteak subs…Direct From Philly in Deerfield Beach.

The story in a nutshell…

Direct From Philly- located in a Chevron Gas Station convience store- makes some of the most delicious Philly chicken and steak- cheesesteak subs that you have ever eaten (well, at least- that Jeff Eats has ever eaten!). Order/pickup at the counter. The joint’s menu- chicken/steak- cheesesteak subs and hand-cut French fries! Handful of counter seats!

Jeff Eats first told you guys about Direct from Philly on 10/6/10. Since that date, Direct From Philly has basically been a wandering nomad, opening and closing in various South Florida locations. Anyway, something like 4-weeks ago, Direct From Philly returned to its original Deerfield Beach “cool-like you gotta be in the know” Chevron gas station- and is back pumping out (pun intended!) amazing-delicious chicken/steak- cheesesteak subs!

Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats stopped in yesterday for “lunch” doing chicken/steak- cheesesteak subs and French fries- and I am telling you- absolute dynamite!

I am now going to tell you guys about an absolutely terrific sub joint…Direct From Philly, which is located in Deerfield Beach. Nothing for nothing, I guarantee you, that unless I told you about Direct From Philly, in 100 years, you’d never-ever find it. This joint is located in a Chevron Gas Station.

Check Direct From Philly’s website www.directfromphilly.com for menu/prices.

But, I digress–don’t really have time to go into detail…suffice it to say–there are two rival subs shops in Philadelphia that for years have battled it out, as to who makes the best Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich…namely Pat’s King of Steaks www.patskingofsteaks.com and Geno’s Steaks www.genosteaks.com. If you GOOGLE these guys you will find tons of articles about the “battle.” I have eaten at both and both joints make a great Philly cheese-steak sandwich.

Anyway…Direct From Philly in addition to a load of breakfast sandwiches, salads, hot-cold subs—does a great job- in shall we say, replicating the sandwiches that Pat’s makes and that Geno’s makes…I tried both of Direct Philly’s “versions” and they were absolutely delicious. As good as the originals? A very-very close call. I think the only difference between the sandwiches that Direct From Philly makes and those that Pat’s and Geno’s serve-up- is what we call ambiance…not much ambiance eating in your car at a Chevron Gas Station…

You now know about a tremendous sub joint.

Direct From Philly is open Monday-Friday 7am-7pm and Saturday 8am-7pm. The joint is closed on Sunday.
