* Old Town Untapped.

Literally just this second, Jeff Eats got an e-mail from the folks who run “events” for The City of Pompano.

Being the great guy that I am, Jeff Eats thought I’d share the e-mail with you guys!

Just between you guys and Jeff Eats, this “event” sounds like it’s gonna be real good. I’ve seen Chain Reaction and it’s one of the better Journey tribute acts currently working the Florida fair/bar/gated community circuit. Throw in food trucks, beer samples and some other “stuff” and I’m kinda thinking that Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats are gonna go!

February, 2016- Delray Marketplace Music Fest (Delray Marketplace Amphitheater- Delray Beach)

* February, 2016- Delray Marketplace Music Fest.

The Delray Marketplace (www.delraymarket.com, 9025 West Atlantic Avenue, Delray Beach, Florida 33446)- takes another “shot” at drawing crowds- to its ill-conceived power shopping center…

Down-below, the Delray Marketplace’s- February, 2016- FREE CONCERT SERIES LINEUP!

If only “someone”- during the center’s planning stage (2010-2012)- had stopped and figured out a DECENT TENANT MIX, the Delray Marketplace wouldn’t be scrambling to draw “visitors” on Thursday Nights in February. That said, “someone” didn’t- so you guys get to see some really good bands- for FREE! To be perfectly honest with you guys, to this very day Jeff Eats still can’t figure-out how the Delray Marketplace actually thought that retailers such as Jos. A. Bank, Chico’s, GNC and Yankee Candle would draw people to an outdoor center! Oh well, not my money!

Jeff Eats has seen all of the scheduled bands- and I gotta tell you, they all put on a great show! Of interest, legendary standup comedian Sal Richards’ son comedian-Guy Richards is set to appear on February 11th- and it remains to be seen (at least by Jeff Eats) as to whether or not we got a Frank Sinatra Jr. or a Cal Ripken Jr. on the Delray Marketplace Amphitheater’s stage!

Boca Burger House (Boca Raton)

***** Boca Burger House, 499 Northeast Spanish River Boulevard, Boca Raton, Florida 33431, (561) 900-5030.

Got a real good burger joint for you guys, Boca Burger House in Boca Raton. I’m thinking something like 60 seats inside (booths/tables) and 40 seats outside.

image

Just between us, the joint’s name- Boca Burger House is kinda deceiving…in addition to a ton of different burgers its got all kinds of salads, wraps, salads, wings, pita pizzas, hot dogs, other stuff! The joint also has a load of craft beers/wines!

image

Long story short, a couple of days ago (or should I say-a couple of nights ago?) Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats and another couple ate dinner there and I gotta tell you, that the ordered- 1/2 lb. ground brisket bacon cheeseburgers, tuna wrap, chicken pizza, French fries, honey garlic wings, onion rings, sweet potato fries, chocolate chip cookies were all right on the money!

image

Trust Jeff Eats on this one, the Boca Burger House is definitely one of the better burger joints that I have eaten-in here in sunny South Florida. For those of you who like pecking orders, everything was dynamite with the hand breaded onion rings and honey garlic wings deserving a special Jeff Eats’ shout-out!

Now, just so we are straight with each other, if you’re looking for fancy schmancy- this joint ain’t gonna work for you. As a point of reference, Boca Burger House is located on the “side” of a big old strip center and is something like 5 minutes away from both FAU and Lynn University’s campuses. “College” best describes Boca Burger’s decor- if that makes any sense to you? On the service front, super pleasant and as helpful as can be! Prices are reasonable and portions are oversized!

Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats and our friends really enjoyed Boca Burger House. I don’t know about you guys, but when four people can all “find what to eat” and no one bitches about anything during or right after the meal- Jeff Eats has to love the joint!

image

Anyway,

You guys can check menu/prices at bocaburgerhouse.com.

Boca Burger House is open 7 days a week 11am-11pm.

* Hump Days At Tamarac Park.

You guys and Jeff Eats both know that food-truck “events” are literally a dime a dozen down here in South Florida! Show “these” guys an empty parking lot or field- and walla, you got a food truck event! Just between us- some of these events are great while others shall-we-say, kinda suck! The key to being “great”- is the “mix” of the food-trucks and the quality of the food they serve up!

Long story short…

Something like 4 months ago, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats heard about Hump Days At Tamarac Park- and I gotta tell you that the 3-times that we were “there” the event’s promoter The Food Truck Collective assembled a diversified top-shelf group of trucks. Just so you know, trucks were rotated in and out of the lineup!

To wrap this one up for you, Hump Days At Tamarac is an exceptionally well run food-truck event. A special shout-out to the Sauced Up Food Truck which makes some of the most amazing chicken wings and sliders that Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats have eaten in South Florida!

Pummarola (Boca Raton, Coral Gables)

image

***** Pummarola, 6000 Glades Road (Boca Town Center), Boca Raton, Florida 33431, (561) 368-1868.

For our purposes Jeff Eats is gonna call Pummarola an “out of sight out of mind” fast food Italian pizza joint! Although Pummarola is located in Boca Town Center’s food-court which is 5 minutes from my home, Jeff Eats is very seldom in the mall/food-court, as for Mrs. Jeff Eats, that’s a whole different ball of wax!

Long story short, Jeff Eats first told you guys about Pummarola way-back on April 13, 2013- since that “date” maybe I’ve eaten at Pummarola 2-3 times…

Anyway,

Yesterday, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats “ate lunch at” Pummarola and I gotta tell, just like as-in 2013- the joint’s food was amazing delicious! No bs- here…the margarita pizza, calzone (ham, mozzarella cheese & ricotta cheese), meatballs & spaghetti we ordered- played at the same level as the stuff served by some of South Florida’s best Italian joints!

image

image

image

Let me wrap this up for you guys, Pummarola is a big time winner!

By the way, Pummarola now has a second location, a store-front joint at 141 Aragon Avenue, Coral Gables, Florida 33134, (786)409-6866.

You can check menu/prices/info for both locations at pummarola.us.

***** Pummarola, 6000 Glades Road (Boca Town Center), Boca Raton, Florida 33431, (561) 368-1868.

Just got back from having “lunch” at Pummarola…which is a relatively new Italian fast food joint located in the food-court at Boca Town Center.

Let me start by saying–Pummarola’s food was fabulous.

The joint’s menu is real simple—personal-sized wood fired pizza ($5.50-$8.50), panuozzo (pizza crust bread with fillings–$8.50), calzones ($8), pasta ($7-8), handful of sides ($3), handful of desserts ($3.50). At this stage of the conversation-you can check www.pummarola.us for full menu/prices/photos.

Now nothing for nothing, over the years- Jeff Eats has literally eaten in tons of Italian fast food mall joints…and I gotta tell you, that Pummarola’s food ranks right up there with the best that I’ve ever had…I’ll even go so far and tell you folks, that Pummarola’s food is as good as most of the stuff served at the best “mom & pop” red sauce Italian joints here in South Florida and elsewhere…I’ll even go on record and tell you, that Pummarola’s food is as good if not better than the stuff served at most of South Florida/elsewhere’s “upscale” Italian joints.

Right about now, some of you guys may-be saying…”Jeff has lost his mind or something.”

Trust me on this one…the “sampled” margherita pizza, chicken milanese panuozzo, fettuccine bolognese, gnocchi alfredo, spaghetti & meatballs, eggplant parmigiana–were absolutely positively delicious. Like Jeff Eats said 14 seconds ago, this joint’s food could easily go head to head with the best Italian stuff out there.

If I got my facts straight, Pummarola has only been open a few months…During the half-hour (3pm-3:30pm on a rainy Saturday) that Jeff Eats was in the food court–the joint did a nice steady business, but I definitely didn’t see long lines at the counter. The real concern that I have with Pummarola is that the guys who own it aren’t business-men…food guys yes!–business-men no! The reason I say this, is that Pummarola is located in a “double space” in the food court…and my pencil to napkin calculations tell me that the rent has to be something like $35,000 a month—and $35,000 a month is an enormous load of pizza/panuozzo/calzone/pasta. In addition, the space “features” a Fiat-car as a decoration…talk about pissing away valuable real-estate! I sure hope Jeff Eats is wrong here-because the food is tremendous…but I really think that Pummarola’s owners might have bit (pun intended) off too much to chew.

Putting “finances” and a car aside for a moment…

I’m telling you guys that you gotta check this joint out.

Pummarola is open 7 days a week during mall hours.

***** May 7, 2013 UPDATE

Just a quick update…

Since Jeff Eats’ April 13, 2013 “review” I and Mrs. Jeff Eats have eaten twice “at” Pummarola with the last outing being this evening—and I gotta tell you that my first impression still holds—the food is absolutely dynamite. Just wanted to mention that after you have finished eating this joint’s pizzas, pastas and sandwiches—give its tiramisu, cannoli and crepes a shot…I sampled all three this evening- and they are as good as the stuff turned out by South Florida’s best Italian bakeries.

Trust me on this..Pummarola is something very special.

Real simple tale to tell- Park Avenue makes some outrageously delicious bbq baby backs and other stuff. Jeff Eats has been eating there (7 South Florida locations) for years and I can’t recall even one bad meal!

Just so you know, Park Avenue really isn’t into “smoke”- let’s just say pressure cooked meats finished-off on a gas grill- trust Jeff Eats, the ribs-so on and so forth, come out absolutely delicious!

Like I said a few seconds ago, I’ve been eating there for years- delicious food, reasonable prices, terrific service, big portions- Go!- you’ll become a fan!

On April 29, 2008 I told you guys about Park Avenue BBQ Grille…a small-casual-very reasonably priced-Florida based “bbq-chain.” Last night, I had dinner at Park Avenue’s newest location (#9) which just opened in Boca Raton…and the food is terrific.

Park Avenue’s newest spot—is located in the free-standing building formely occupied by Bucky’s BBQ. From what I can tell, other than hanging a few new signs and decorations, the joint has the same interior as Bucky’s had…and I gotta tell you, the cozy 98 seat dark wood table/ booth–dimly lit–small bar decor is great looking. For those of you not familar with this chain’s other 8 locations–they seat close to 150, have large bar areas and are brightly lit. Although the Boca location “looks” different than its brethren…the food is exactly the same, delicious.

Do me a favor and read my original 4/29/08 review…it will save me from doing some typing. You can check Park Avenue’s BBQ website www.pabbqgrille.com for menu/prices.

***** Park Avenue BBQ & Grille, 4796 North Congress Avenue, Boynton Beach, Florida 33426, (561) 357-7427.

Park Avenue is a small “local” South Florida bbq chain. I have lost count on how many there are, but 7 or 8 units sounds about right. Over the years I have eaten in 3 of its locations a total of something like 35 times and taken out so much food, that it’s amazing that I haven’t had to have an angioplasty done. Anyway…my last Park Avenue outing was last night (at the Boynton Beach location) and I have to tell you, that the joint’s baby-back ribs and bbq chicken are absolutely delicious. This joint also makes corn-fritters doused in powder sugar that are terrific.

Do yourself a favor and visit a location in your area. Delicious food. Big portions. Pleasant and efficient waiters/waitresses. All kinds of menu “price specials.” Park Avenue is open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner. If you wear anything dressier than tee shirt/shorts you will look silly.

***** Brass Ring Pub, 200 U.S. Highway 1, North Palm Beach, Florida 33408, (561) 848-4748.

For our purposes we are gonna call Brass Ring Pub- an “out of sight out of mind” amazing Sports Bar joint with 1-location in North Palm Beach and 1-location in Royal Palm Beach!

No matter how you slice it, Boca Raton (Jeff Eats’ home) is a “drive” to either North Palm Beach or Royal Palm Beach! With that in mind, Jeff Eats really doesn’t get-to either of the Brass Ring Pubs as much as I should!

Long story short, last night Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats and another couple ate dinner at the North Palm Beach joint…bacon cheeseburger, buffalo chicken wings, jumbo clam strips and I gotta tell you, the food was absolute dynamite!

No bs- here, if the Brass Ring Pubs were closer to my home, Jeff Eats would be a REAL STEADY CUSTOMER!

All I can tell you…

If you live or work anywhere near either of the Brass Ring Pubs do yourself a real “solid” and eat there- trust Jeff Eats, the food absolutely kills!

Hey Bunky!

Got the -New Jersey son, daughter-in law and their two kids aged 9 and 11- in town for the Thanksgiving Holiday…and you’re looking for a real good casual joint to take them to-for dinner before you happily put them on this coming Sunday’s-2:30pm Newark flight? Hey! It wasn’t your fault that it was too cold to go swimming! Well, at least you did something right, sonny-boy 42 is a partner in a successful retina group.

Then think about doing…Brass Ring Pub- great burgers, fries, wings, bar-food…just so you know, there are 2 Brass Ring Pubs, 1-in North Palm Beach, 1-in Royal Palm Beach…both are dynamite, but- for no particular reason Jeff Eats is partial to the North Palm Beach joint…I’ve been eating there since 2008-and it hasn’t missed even one time!

You can check menu/info at brassringpub.rkorson.com.

A few reviews ago, we discussed the never-ending search to find “moderately” priced steakhouses (Manero’s 8/28/08 & Raindancer 8/29/08) that serve great food at reasonable prices and have waiters-waitresses who don’t treat you like crap…say hello to Tropical Acres which has been in business since 1949. Checkout this joint’s website at www.tropicalacres.com for menu/prices/details.

Tropical Acres has terrific food…steaks, seafood, not to mention a handful of Italian dishes. Great wait-staff…and prices that are something like 50% less than those charged by the Robber Barons…they and you know who they are. The joint is just fancy enough to warrant your throwing on a pair of long-pants, but I think that shorts won’t get you “shown” the door.

Like I said before, the joint has been around since 1949, so just maybe it has been doing something right. Tropical Acres is open 7 days a week from 4:30pm-10pm…please note that it is closed on Sundays, July-October.
