* Glenn Miller: The Master of Comedy Hypnosis.

Got a good one for you guys, Glenn Miller: The Master of Comedy Hypnosis…

Yeah! I know, you thought the guy was dead- different Glenn Miller!

Long story short, “this” Glenn Miller (as opposed to the late big band leader-Glenn Miller) puts on a hilarious comedy hypnosis show…Jeff Eats has seen the show, and it is absolutely amazing how Miller gets people to do “things” on stage that they would never-ever do without Miller’s hypnotic influence!

The show is “clean” and as I mentioned beforehand – hilarious…

The Skinny:

DESCRIPTION
Glenn started as a musician in rock bands. He eventually transitioned to radio where he became a disc jockey and talk-show host. It wasn’t long before he became a notable personality on K-Rock, Z-93, KXFM and KSMA all in California. Glenn’s “glib tongue” opened the door to his being projected into doing commercials for Coca Cola, Budweiser, Ford Pontiac, Mazda… Glenn was also the comedy voice of the Miami Dolphins on Miami radio station WIOD.

Glenn’s thirst for knowledge created his interest to delve into the mystiques of the mind. He studied hypnosis and its ramifications. Although Glenn became a Clinical Hypnotherapist he decided to utilize Hypnosis as an entertaining, humorous show on a stage to make people laugh and have fun. His unique ability at this art became evident when he was booked to perform on the ships of Carnival Cruise Lines, Celebrity and Royal Caribbean as well as corporate events & many more!

Anthony’s Runway 84 (Fort Lauderdale)

*****. Anthony’s Runway 84, 330 West State Road 84, Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33315, (954) 467-8484.

Last night Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats and 9 others ate dinner at Anthony’s Runway 84 an “upscale” Italian joint in Fort Lauderdale.

Jeff Eats first told you guys about Anthony’s Runway 84 on July 9, 2008 (“review”reprinted down below).

Long story short,

Despite getting caught in torrential rains-driving there and being late for our 6:30pm reservation (arriving at 7:10pm) the packed (and I do mean packed)- Anthony’s Runway 84- immediately seated us! Real simple tale to tell, the food (Italian salad, mussels marinara, clams oreganata, chicken parmigiana, veal parmigiana, veal marsala, grilled pork chops, chicken scarpariello, spaghetti marinara) was delicious and the service was right on the money! Trust Jeff Eats when I tell you, that everyone at the table really enjoyed dinner! For you guys who like to keep score, the grilled pork chops and the chicken scarpariello killed!

image

Take a “read” of my 7/9/08 “review”- just so you know, Jeff Eats hadn’t been back to Anthony’s Runway 84 since that review-date…I’m kinda thinking that “out of sight out of mind” was the prime factor for the roughly 8 year hiatus!

Based on last night’s “dinner” Jeff Eats is recommending that you guys give the joint a shot- no ifs, ands or buts- Anthony’s Runway 84 did a great job last night!

You can check menu/prices/info at runway-84.com.

Anthony’s Runway 84 is open for lunch Tuesday-Friday, for dinner Tuesady-Sunday, closed Monday.

***** Anthony’s Runway 84, 330 West State Road 84, Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33315, (954) 467-8484.

The owner of Anthony’s Runway 84, is the same guy who in recent years has been “rolling out” Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza joints literally all over South Florida.

Anthony’s Runway 84 is a white-cloth-upscale Italian Restaurant…This joint’s decor is Tony Soprano-Christopher Moltisanti-Paulie Gualtieri circa 1970. Anthony’s has an enormous-legendary following, so don’t even think about going to this joint without a reservation…(more on reservations later).

Just so you know…over the years I have eaten at Anthony’s Runway 84 at least 15 times…to be perfectly honest with you, I don’t know if I like or don’t like this joint…I know that sounds nuts, but that’s the truth.

Anthony’s is notorious for not honoring reservations…over the years it has gotten a reputation for being a joint that hand-picks who gets seated and when they get seated…in the past, sometimes I was timely seated and sometimes I sat in the bar (for the longest period) trying to figure what the hell was going on…

Anthony’s is notorious for having an erratic kitchen…sometimes the food is absolutely incredible and sometimes it produces absolute garbage…in the past, I have had great dishes, good dishes and garbage.

The one thing that has always been consistent at Anthony’s is the wait-service. Absolutely top-notch. By the way, Anthony’s prices are nothing too terrible…you get a ton of food for the money.

The perfect Anthony’s Runway 84 experience is an “honored” reservation with great food…I have had such evenings… then again, I have had “honored” reservations with garbage…I have also had reservations “not honored” with great food…and reservations “not honored” with garbage.

Let me put it to you this way…eating at this joint is an absolute crap-shoot. Based on my having eaten in this joint something like 15 times, I must be a gambler and glutton for punishment all rolled up in one.

My suggestion is that you give Anthony’s Runway 84 at least one try…if the stars line-up for you, you will have an an absolutely fabulous dinner. When (if) it comes together, the combination of decor/ambiance/attitude/food/service is fantastic.

Anthony’s is open Tuesday-Sunday for dinner.

GOOD LUCK!!!!

Recent e-mail received by Jeff Eats…

Jeff,
The family (me, the wife and 2 pre teen kids) just moved to Coral Springs from Baldwin, LI. Found Jeff Eats’ purely by accident a few days ago and like your style. We haven’t tried any of your picks yet but first up is Nick’s Pizzeria in Coral Springs this coming weekend.
Just curious, what’s a good bbq pick for our area?

***** Rock N Roll Ribs, 4651 State Road 7, Coral Springs, Florida 33073 (954) 345-7429.

Rock N Roll Ribs is a “bbq joint”…it opened about 3 months ago…one of its co-owners is Nicko McBrain, the legendary drummer of the metal-band Iron Maiden…by the way, Nicko lives in Boca Raton. So, you now know— how “it” probably got the name Rock N Roll Ribs. The joint, has videos of bands playing, records on the wall, hanging guitars and a drum set as its decor. Rock N Roll Ribs is located in a shopping center on State Road 7…I think there are more empty stores than going businesses. Personally, I think that the spot stinks, but hey, it ain’t my dime! The joint isn’t all that big, maybe 80 seats. From what I understand, although Nicko is one of the owners and hangs out there- when he is in “town” (he wasn’t there, last night), it is run by “Moby” Rick Baum who according to the joint’s “pr” has an extensive background in developing/opening/running restaurants—the guy also plays guitar in Nicko’s (other band) McBrain Damage… What I can tell you, based on last night’s meal, this guy Moby Rick knows his bbq.

At this stage of the concert, check www.rocknrollribs.org for menu/prices/photos.

Now let’s talk food…tried- baby back ribs, bbq chicken, pork sandwich, cheese burger, french fries, garlic toast—this is some of the best bbq that I have had “down here” in South Florida. This joint’s bbq is not heavy-smokey, but rather “sweet” grilled stuff, that is right on the money.

award_dinner_rock_article

On the pricing front—very reasonable…a full rack of baby back ribs with garlic toast and 2 sides goes for $15.95…a 1/2 chicken with garlic toast and 2 sides $12.95.

On the service side—very pleasant and efficient waitstaff.

Like I said before, 80 seats, looks better than a Hard Rock Cafe, real good food, real good prices, real good service, lousy location. Hey! Nicko and Rick, you got a great concept here…I just hope that people “find” you.

One final thought, you might like to check www.ironmaiden.com and www.myspace.com/mcbraindamge and read about Nicko and Rick’s music and bandmates. Just so you know, Nicko-is considered by many, to be one of the top rock drummers of all-time.

I really enjoyed Rock N Roll Ribs.

The joint is open 7-days a week 11am-10pm.

Jeff Eats is kinda thinking that just- maybe you guys have seen the basic “concept” elsewhere…you build (design) your own pizzas and salads! Then the stuff is delivered to your table! The keys for the “game” to work- 1. Top quality/numerous ingredients, 2. Easy to order system, 3. Fast table delivery of those wood-fired pizzas, salads and other stuff, 4. Reasonable prices.

imageimage

Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats recently did lunch- pizzas and salads! Trust me when I tell you, the folks owning/running this joint got the game-figured out just right!

imageimage

Let me wrap this one up for you guys- Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats loved Cucina Pizza By Design. Not exactly sure as to who gets the credit- Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats (hey! We did “design” the pizzas and salads) or Cucina Pizza By Design for the delicious pizzas/salads delivered- but, in any case- the stuff was really good!

You can check menu/prices/info at cucinapizza.com.

Pizza By Design is open Monday- Saturday 10am-10pm, closed Sunday.

It usually doesn’t work-out this way with siblings- but in this “case” Bobby Valli Frankie’s younger brother, sounds just like his older brother does!

Jeff Eats has seen Bobby Valli twice, the man puts on a great show! Trust Jeff Eats on this one, I’ve watched a load of Valli “tribute” artists- Bobby Valli is as “close” to the real-deal as can be!

For you guys not familiar with Fishtales- real good full bar/indoor/outdoor patio seating restaurant that serves-up reasonably priced real good American Style stuff…the joint’s kicker, live music and entertainment 7 nights a week! Trust Jeff Eats on this one, Fishtales is a real good-fun-casual joint, featuring top local Rock N Roll bands, doo wop groups, tribute shows, comedians, national celebrity headliner acts! Over the years, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats have eaten at Fishtales a number of times- and like I just said, reasonably priced real good American Style stuff! ***** Dyan’s Country Kitchen, 9100 Wiles Road, Coral Springs, Florida 33067, (954) 755-7590.

For our purposes we’re gonna call Dyan’s Country Kitchen “an out of sight out of mind” diner joint!

Simple tale to tell, Jeff Eats first told you guys about Dyan’s way-back on January 20, 2009- hadn’t been back until yesterday when Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats, Daughter Jeff Eats and Son Jeff Eats did-lunch!

Just between you guys and Jeff Eats, there is no way that I should have let this joint slip through the cracks as it’s only a 30 minute drive from my Boca Raton home- as they say, sh@t happens!

Like I said a couple of seconds ago, a simple tale to tell…delicious reasonably priced- chicken salad on toasted rye, tuna salad on toasted et-bagel, bacon cheeseburger, corned beef on rye, French fries, potato knish, potato pancake, tomato salad, sweet potato fries, chopped liver on toasted onion bagel!

image

Trust Jeff Eats on this one, Dyan’s Country Kitchen won’t be slipping through the cracks again!

Dyan’s Country Kitchen is open:
Sunday, Monday, Tuesday from 6:30 am – 3 pm
Wednesday through Saturday from 6:30 am – 9 pm.

Real simple tale, this joint makes a real delicious chicken pot pie. Kinda hard pressed to recall a South Florida-British pub that makes a better one. By the way, while we are on the subject of “chicken”- the joint’s wings kill!

If your into British pubs, the Ye Olde Falcon Pub will definitely work for you!

***** Ye Olde Falcon Pub, 2867 South University Drive, Davie, Florida 33328, (954) 424-0300.

Got a good British Pub for you guys…Ye Olde Falcon Pub in Davie.

First things first, the joint looks exactly as you expect it to…dark wood, big bar, more dark wood, tvs, handful of arcade games, darts, booth and table seating…this one also has outdoor patio seating.

Ye Olde’s menu- a combination of British and American stuff…plenty of appetizers, soups, salads, burgers, sandwiches, wings, entrees, desserts- trust me, everyone in your party will find what to eat! The joint also has beers up the whazoo- 48 on tap and 14 bottles…so if you like beer, you’re set!

Since this is after-all a British Pub…

A recent dinner had Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats and another couple “trying”- fish & chips, bangers & mash, shepard’s pie, chicken pot pie and I gotta tell you everything was A-OK! If I had to do a pecking order, which I don’t have to, but I will- Jeff Eats loved the fish & chips ($12.99) and chicken pot pie ($9.95), the bangers & mash ($11.79) and shepard’s pie ($10.99) were decent enough, but personally-I wouldn’t be jumping at a second chance to order them again!

On the American side of the ledger, the philly steak & cheese sub ($10.99) and popcorn chicken ($9.79) that we threw into the meal-mix were right on the money! Just between you and Jeff Eats, the sub (Ye Olde calls it a hoagie-whatever!) absolutely killed- and if you “go” is a must-order.

Jeff Eats really enjoyed-Ye Olde Falcon Pub. Good food, terrific beer selection, very pleasant service, reasonable prices, plenty of dark wood!

You guys can check menu/prices/info at yeoldefalconpub.com.

Ye Olde Falcon Pub is open Sunday noon-4am, Monday-Saturday 11am-4am
