A recent e-mail received by Jeff Eats…

Jeff,
Ive been reading jeffeats.com for years. I love your style and many of your picks.
I’m a big fan of V&S Deli and LaSpada in the sub department. But to be perfectly honest with you, after eating at both for years I’m kind of bored by their offerings.
I’m thinking that if I’m bored, you as a Boca resident must be really BORED!
Besides V&S and LaSpada where do you go for great subs in Boca?
Thanks,

John Como

John Como,

Thanks for reading!

Now, let’s be honest with one- another…

Have you ever met a sub-hoagie-grinder-blimpie (you- fill in your favorite regional “term”) that you didn’t like? Now for sure, some subs (that’s what Jeff Eats calls them) are better than others…but I can’t ever recall saying…”Boy this sub stinks. I’m not going to eat it. Let me just throw it in that garbage can over there.”

Anyway,

Not sure on this…but over the past few years- I must have driven by Swifty’s Market Grill & Deli something like 25,209,849 times without ever stopping. From the outside-and actually from the inside too–it’s basically a “hole in the wall” convenience store. As the old saying goes, “Don’t judge a book by its cover.”–well- in the back of the convenience store is- a take-out-only- sub-counter that makes the full-boat of hot and cold hoagies..

For what it’s worth, I just got back from Swifty’s Market Grill & Deli and as I type–I am enjoying one of the most delicious grilled Philly Cheesesteak Subs (chopped steak/American Cheese/grilled onions/peppers) that I’ve ever had. Really just that simple!

Based alone-on its Philly Cheesesteak Sub…Swifty Market Grill & Deli is a must try.

For the curious, Jeff Eats was “tipped” this morning (while walking Jiggy Eats) to- Swifty’s by a Comcast serviceman who was working down the block from my home.

Let me wrap this up…

Finally-Comcast did something right!

Swifty’s Market Grill & Deli is open Monday-Saturday 7am-10pm, Sunday 9am-9pm.

Real simple tale to tell you, Jeff Eats is thinking- that Tucci’s Fire N Coal Pizza is one of the best coal-oven pizza joints in Florida.

No bs-here, its salads, pizzas, pastas and entrees are all- off the chart- and I really can’t think of another Florida coal oven joint that makes better coal oven wings.

Tucci’s is an absolute must try.

Jeff Eats can’t even begin to imagine- that you won’t love this joint!

Regular, Jeff Eats’ readers know that…I love a good pizza. I don’t care if it’s brick-oven, wood oven, coal oven, this oven or that oven…just as long as it tastes good. You also do know that I speak fluent Italian…”Give me two slices and a large Coke.”…don’t you? Over the past 3-years or so, South Florida has been “hit” with a ton of new pizza joints which play the “coal oven-chicken wings” card…guys like Anthony’s, Coal Mine, Carolina’s, Mona Lisa, just to name a few…and by in large, they are all pretty decent… of course, some are better than others…that’s why Jeff Eats is here.

Anyway…last night, I gave Tucci’s Fire N Coal Pizza in Boca Raton a shot. The joint which has been open for something like 3 months… has indoor seating for about 50 and maybe 10 outside. The menu has 4 appetizers, chicken wings, escarole & beans, eggplant rollatini and sauteed broccoli rabe & sausage…2 salads, Italian and caesar…loads of coal/wood cooked pizzas…2 desserts, cheesecake and cannoli…beer and soda by the bottle.

Let’s make this review easy. I had an Italian salad, margherita/ricotta pizza, chicken wings. The food was delicious. The salad was cold, fresh, crisp… The chicken wings were seasoned with garlic and carmalize onion, The pizza was thin crusted, crisp, perfectly well-done, right on the money sweet sauce…As for service, pleasant as can be…Price-wise, small wings (10) $9.95, salad which could have feed 3 ($10.95), pizzas–depending on what you order (that’s obvious) start at- small ($13.95)-large ($17.95).

Tucci’s Fire N Coal Pizza is a really good coal-oven pizza/chicken joint. I enjoyed its food and casual “hole in the wall” atmosphere. By the way, you can check Tucci’s menu/prices at www.tuccispizza.com.

Tucci’s is open for lunch & dinner Tuesday-Sunday…the joint is closed on Monday.

So if you wanna see- one of the coolest Roots Rock N Roll bands in America (and don’t yet have tickets) it is definitely time to make your move on the ticket front. * Otis Cadillac and the El Dorados Featuring the Sublime Seville Sisters & LaSpada’s Original Hoagies.

Trust Jeff Eats on this one, the Arts Garage crowd is gonna have a non stop-fast paced blast the moment the “legendary” Otis Cadillac -takes to the stage!

If you need some convincing as to how good Otis Cadillac and the El Dorados Featuring the Sublime Seville Sisters really are-otiscadillacband.com and You Tube!

You can purchase tickets online at artsgarage.org.

Don’t forget- You can bring your own food, beverages (booze)! Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats will be dining on subs from LaSpada’s Original Hoagies, 2240 Northwest 19th Street, Boca Raton, Florida 33431, (561) 393-1434.

By the way, the reason for the early heads-up on this “one”- the last time (8/18/17) Otis Cadillac and the Eldorados Featuring the Sublime Seville Sisters played the Arts Garage- it was a SRO affair without a single empty seat in the joint…

from artsgarage.org

The Otis Cadillac and El Dorados R&B Revue is an 11 piece band that performs Classic R&B, Root Rock N’ Roll and related Blues oriented material. The band performs in a style that emulates the R&B revues of the late 50s and early 60s. It is the goal of each performance to recreate the atmosphere and energy that gave birth to Rock N’ Roll in that era. The band chooses eclectic and diverse material exposing the talents of its band members.

The Revue features the extraordinarily talented female vocal trio the Seville Sisters. Under the vocal direction of acclaimed vocal instructor and performer Kat Riggins they provide colorful harmonies, featured solos, dance routines and on-stage banter to compliment the Octogenarian iconic lead vocalist Otis Cadillac.

Don’t look for an overly familiar and nostalgic performance from this group. The seasoned veteran musicians that compose the El Dorados roar through the music and spur Otis and the Sevilles to inspired, soulful, performances that are stirring, fresh, fun and guaranteed to get the most jaded bun off its seat.

“Otis Cadillac and the Eldorados featuring the Sublime Seville Sisters drove the crowd wild for two 75 minute sets. The partying was in full swing and it was certainly one of the top 3 days I’ve ever had at Earl’s. I don’t quite know if touring is in their plans, but if this show ever goes on the road keep your fingers crossed that it’s on a road near you.“

– Peter “Blewzzman” Lauro, Keeping the Blues Alive Award Recipient
