Way-back on July 3, 2014 Jeff Eats did a story (reprinted down below) about California based “make your own” pizza chain Blaze Fast-Fire’d Pizza-and its plans to enter the Florida market…

Long story short, Blaze currently has something like 60 locations nationwide which include 1-in Boca Raton, 1-in Fort Lauderdale. 1-in Gainesville, 1-in Sarasota…locations in Davie, Orlando, Tallahassee, Jacksonville are under construction.

Yesterday, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats gave Blaze’s Boca Raton joint which opened a couple of weeks ago- a shot and I gotta tell you that we were impressed! By the way, the joint has both inside and outdoor patio seating- so you guys with dogs…

Now, nothing for nothing, Henry Ford invented this assembly-line “thing” a hundred years ago, or at least I think he did…and Subway and Chipotle have it down to a science…that said- dough, pick your sauce, pick your toppings- into a stone hearth oven for 3 minutes- pay $5-$10- 11″ pizza delivered to your table!

Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats did a Simple Pie (mozzarella, parmesan, red sauce) and a Meat Eater (pepperoni, crumbled meatballs, red onion, mozzarella, red sauce) and like I just said, very impressed. Delicious crust, nice sweet sauce- and it didn’t taste like “fast food”…as good- as most of the full service coal-oven and wood fired pizza joints down here-that bang you for a whole lot more money!

For sure, Blaze has the obligatory salads- but the real game here is pizza.

Trust Jeff Eats, you won’t be disappointed!

One final note, not to sound like a college professor or nothing- but if you check, Jeff Eats has a couple of stories about the “make your own” pizza business- hopefully this “pizza segment” doesn’t mimic the self-serve yogurt craze of just a few short years ago…a word to the wise to potential franchisees and others- THERE ARE ONLY JUST SO MANY OF THESE TYPE JOINTS THAT ANY ONE GIVEN MARKET CAN COMFORTABLY HANDLE!

Blaze Fast-Fire’d Pizza.

Way back on December 29, 2011 Jeff Eats did a story on-the make your own fast food pizza business. If you like, you can read that story, if not, not!

Anyway,

In recent years, a number of “make your own pizza” joints have opened in the United States…you can do the research-there are a ton of franchise operations peddling the concept…right off the top of my head, Uncle Maddio’s, Top That! Pizza, Your Pie, Pie-Ology, Pie-Lingual, MOD Pizza, Pie Five Pizza–if Jeff Eats “gave” it some thought, I’m sure I could up with other-names.

Real simple concept,

You pick your dough, you pick your sauce, you pick your cheese, you pick your toppings…the pizza is “assembled” in front of you at the counter, then cooked and delivered to your table. No brain cancer surgery here, you’ve seen the “assembly line” formula used on subs, yogurt, soft serve, burgers, hot dogs-before.

Just wanted to let you guys know -that Lebron James just invested in a Blaze Fast-Fire’d Pizza franchise that plans on opening 10 Florida stores…not sure of exact locations, but at least one of these-make your own pizza joints will be in Boca Raton -and plans to be open sometime within the next 6 months. Really know very little about Blaze Fast Fire’d Pizza except that the parent comes out of California and that it currently has something like 25 locations in the western part of the United States with a heavy presence in California.

Can’t resist…I guess that all of that Heat money is burning a hole in Lebron’s pocket.

So,

Let’s keep an eye out for Blaze Fast-Fire’d Pizza…and see if Lebron knows how to play in the fast food make your own pizza league.

Got a real good cheesesteak joint for you guys to checkout, Wicked Cheesesteaks Pizza & Wings in Fort Lauderdale.

Simple tale to tell, yesterday afternoon Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats and our friends Marcia and Robert “discovered” Wicked Cheesesteaks Pizza & Wings and I gotta tell you that its food absolutely killed! Order/pickup at the counter, indoor table & counter seating/ small handful of outdoor tables, handful of full size stand-up arcade games, reasonably priced cheesesteaks/ wings/ pizzas/ salads/ heroes/ sandwiches/ quesadillas/ calzones/ strombolis/ appetizers/ desserts menu.

Let’s wrap-up this tale by saying that Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats, Marcia and Robert loved Wicked Cheesesteaks Pizza & Wings’ food, that the owners were super pleasant and that you guys should give the joint a shot!

Costco customers are now paying more for their annual memberships for the first time since 2017.

The retailer announced in July that membership fees would increase by $5 to $65 a year in the US and Canada for three of its plans: “Gold Star,” “Business” and “Business Add-On.” The changes started for new members signing up on or after September 1 and renewals occurring after that date.

The price of Costco’s premium “Executive Membership” also went up, by $10 to $130 a year. However, those members will soon be able to earn a maximum of $1,250 in rewards annually versus $1,000 currently.

The company estimated that 52 million memberships will be impacted, a little over half of which are Executive members, Costco previously said.

Annual fees have been one of the biggest profit-generating areas for Costco, helping it offset expenses to keep its prices down. Last year, Costco earned $4.6 billion in revenue from membership fees, an 8% increase from 2022.

The fee hikes come as Costco, like streaming companies, has been taking more measures to ensure fewer non-subscribers are hitching a ride on other customers’ memberships.

Costco (COST) is cracking down on membership moochers by implementing stricter policies and requiring shoppers to scan their membership cards to enter stores.

“Over the coming months, membership scanning devices will be used at the entrance door of your local warehouse,” Costco said in a previous statement. “Once deployed, prior to entering, all members must scan their physical or digital membership card by placing the barcode or QR Code against the scanner.”

For members with cards that don’t have a photo, Costco says to come prepared with a valid photo ID but encourages shoppers to visit the membership counter and have their photo taken.

Costco’s new rule also requires all guests to be accompanied by a valid cardholder to enter its stores, making it more difficult for non-members to sneak in using cards that don’t belong to them.

Not gonna name-names, but a long time reader (Jon G) who “knows his stuff”- has been telling Jeff Eats for almost-forever that I had to try Stingers Bar & Pizzeria!

Long story short, last night Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats gave Stingers a shot…and the man once again- was right on the money…real good- burger/French fries, meatball pizza and philly cheese steak sub!

Just so you know, Stingers Bar & Pizzera is a neighborhood/sports bar-that has been around for something like 21 years- and is as far from being fancy- as can be! The joint is located in a small strip center-right across A1A from the beach…based on what I saw- the crowd is a mix of locals- and tourists that inhabit the hotels/motels that dot the beach-landscape. I’m thinking that Stingers does a ton-of hotel/motel deliveries, but that’s just Jeff Eats thinking!

Stingers got indoor table/booth -outdoor table seating- a separate bar area, and tons of flat screen tvs… like I said 1.5 seconds ago, real casual joint. Just between you guys and Jeff Eats, if you wear anything “more” that a tee shirt/shorts/flip flop ensemble you’re gonna look pitifully overdressed!

Stingers does breakfast, lunch and dinner…
