* The Zombies.

Just this second, received a PR e-mail from the Mardi Gras Casino in Hallandale Beach.

You can “play” food blogger (just like Jeff Eats does) and read the particulars on THE ZOMBIES’ scheduled April 8, 2014 Mardi Gras Casino concert.

Trust Jeff Eats on this one, The Zombies back in 1964 were an amazing band-and 50 years later-still are.

The Mardi Gras Casino is a great outdoor venue…and every seat is good.

When you see/hear original members Colin Blunstone and Rod Argent–you’ll wonder why you aged-and these guys didn’t. I think its got something to do with –“The Picture of Dorian Gary.”- but that’s just a guess!

Kosher Kingdom (Aventura)

***** Kosher Kingdom, 3017 Aventura Boulevard, Aventura, Florida 33180, (305) 792-7988.

Shalom y’all!

Last week, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats were at a house party– and the food was catered by Kosher Kingdom- a glatt kosher supermarket in Aventura.

The food setup included…deli & sandwich platters, fried chicken platters, vegetable platters, cookie/cake platters. Kosher, glatt kosher, trafe (Google it)–I gotta tell you, the food was fabulous. Some of the best pastrami/corned beef/turkey–bite sized fried chicken-rugalach that I’ve eaten down here in sunny South Florida.

To be honest with you, before this house party–Jeff Eats wasn’t all that familiar with Kosher Kingdom. I’d heard about it-but that’s about it!

To make a long story short…the host/hostess and a number of guests “told” me that Kosher Kingdom is their go-to-supermarket for top shelf kosher…meats/seafood/baked goods/pizza/dairy/prepared foods/cheeses/wines.

All -Jeff Eats can tell you, is that the catered food was outstanding–and a “look” at Kosher Kingdom’s website www.kosherkingdom.com–has me thinking that this supermarket is a fabulous place for both kosher and non-kosher shoppers to know about.

Just so you guys know, Jeff Eats could have gotten all-cute and sarcastic with this whole-kosher thing”–that said, I’ve seen that Hebrew National “We Answer To A Higher Authority” hot dog tv-commercial–so sometimes it- just maybe better to leave things alone-in case “someone” is actually taking notes or keeping score.

Kosher Kingdom is open Monday-Thursday 7:30am-9pm, Friday 7:30am-3pm, Sunday 7:30am-8pm, closed on Saturday.

* Otis Cadillac & The El Dorados R&B Revue featuring the Seville Sisters.

Got something really cool, really campy, really fun, really entertaining… South Florida based—Otis Cadillac & The El Dorados R&B Revue featuring the Seville Sisters.

The group describes itself as…”an 11 piece band -that performs Classic R&B, Root Rock N’ Roll and related Blues oriented material. The band performs in a style that emulates the R&B revues of the late 50s and early 60s. It is the goal of each performance to recreate the atmosphere and energy that gave birth to Rock N’ Roll in that era. The band chooses eclectic and diverse material exposing the talents of its band members.”

Trust Jeff Eats on this one…this band puts on an amazing show.

You can check-out Otis Cadillac & The El Dorados R&B Revue featuring the Seville Sisters at www.theotiscadillacband.com.

Take it for what it is worth…Jeff Eats has seen a “ton” of classic rock/roots rock/blues bands in his day–and this Otis Cadillac- is as good as it gets.

Picture if you can…”The Blues Brothers Band” -“Otis Day & The Knights”- “Bette Midler & The Harlettes all in one package…and you’ll have some idea as to what Otis Cadillac & The El Dorados R&B Revue featuring the Seville Sisters is all about.

Otis Cadillac & The El Dorados R&B Revue featuring the Seville Sisters work bars/clubs/country clubs/condos/festivals all over South Florida.

No fooling around here, this is a must see-band.

Jeff Eats has been to three shows and each-featured a different playlist. The band has 11 core members but every so often 5 Seville Sisters (there are usually 3) help front the band. The beautiful thing about Otis Cadillac & The El Dorados R&B Revue featuring the Seville Sisters is that you never know what quirky stuff will unfold at any given performance. By the way, these “guys” can really play/sing/and dance-and use no tracks-to get the job done.

The band’s next scheduled public appearance…March 23, 2014 at the Waterside Blues Festival in Fort Pierce.

* A Public Service Announcement.

Not going to name names…

But every so often in-reviewing restaurant menus, Jeff Eats finds that a number of you owners think that the word DESSERT(S) is spelled DESERT(S)…well, it isn’t.

You eat dessert(s)…Lawrence of Arabia rode his camel in the desert.

This has been a Public Announcement from Jeff Eats.

* Jeff Eats Just Loves It!

Not gonna mention which Boca Raton restaurant this YELP reviewer was yelping about..,

“…The buffalo meatloaf was the best I’ve ever had.”

Now seriously-and please don’t pull any punches..,

When was -the last time that you ate buffalo meatloaf?

With that in mind, the guy above sounds like he’s a “regular” buffalo meatloaf eater.

Jeff Eats just loves it! The fact that in this reality tv driven world- that everybody and anybody (present company included) can- actually think that they are food critics. You do know that some of us “critics” really don’t take ourselves all that seriously, sure you do!

I gotta tell you, this internet thing and cable tv have literally made everyone an expert about everything.

Gotta run, I’m working on a cure for Alzheimer’s in my bathroom.

Catch you guys tomorrow.

The Nauti Dawg Marina Cafe (Lighthouse Point)

***** The Nauti Dawg Marina Cafe, 2841 Marina Circle, Lighthouse Point, Florida 33064, (954) 941-0227.

Got something real good for you…The Nauti Dawg Marina Cafe–this “American Style” joint with its indoor/outdoor patio seating is located right on the water in the Lighthouse Point Marina. Just a heads up, when you go there–tee shirts/shorts/flip-flops are the dress of the day–I’m telling you-you’ll swear you’re in Key West based on the architecture/marina views/boats. Another heads up, sitting inside is cool-but sitting outside is even cooler–and the joint is super dog friendly-it even has a K9 menu.

On the food front, The Nauti Dawg does breakfast/lunch/dinner, wine/beer—for sure, not the biggest menu on the planet, but there is enough breakfast stuff, appetizers, salads, sandwiches, burgers, entrees, desserts so nobody in your party is gonna have to stop at Five Guys to eat on the way home. You can check www.nautidawg.com for menu/prices/pictures.

Here’s an idea for you guys…take your cousin Harriet and her husband Eric who are down here visiting from Kew Gardens to this joint..it will blow them away–and Harriet will be busting Eric’s balls for the rest of their stay-questioning why they still live in a 2 bedroom -2 bath apartment across the street from Chin’s American Chinese Restaurant on Queens Boulevard. One quick thought, make sure you bring Harriet and Eric to The Nauti Dog on a gorgeous sunny day after all- we do want to hit them with a 2 by 4-don’t we?

Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats loved The Nauti Dawg…delicious caprese salad, crab cakes, cheeseburger–with a special shoutout to the blackened mahi sandwich. By the way, our dog-Jiggy Eats loved the 6oz. non -seasoned chicken breast that he ordered off the K9 menu–at first he wanted to order the Granny’s Apple Crisp (people’s menu)–and we had to explain to him, that baked granny apples with brown sugar-walnuts- topped with cinnamon ice cream wasn’t really-all that good for him. Sports bar service/prices (you can figure what this means for yourself).

The Nauti Dawg Marina Cafe is open Monday-Friday 7:30pm-9pm, Saturday-Sunday 7am-9pm.

One final item, getting back to Harriet and Eric for a moment…on certain days, The Nauti Dog has Key West “type” musicians playing the joint–just a thought- but, just maybe your cousin and cousin by marriage might enjoy the tunes.

The Nauti Dawg…go! you’ll love it.

* Lionel Richie.

Just so you know, one of Mrs. Jeff Eats’ favorite performers is Lionel Richie…

With that in mind, Jeff Eats wanted to tell you–that as I type, Groupon (www.groupon.com) is running a deal for a July 15, 2014- Cruzan Amphitheatre show starring Lionel Richie and CeeLo Green (he was one of the judges on TV’s- The Voice) with $40 General Admission tickets going for $20 and $69.50 Reserved Seats going for $35.

So…you now know where you can pick-up some discounted tickets-

Printed below is some of Groupon’s PR for the event-deal.

Lionel Richie: All The Hits All Night Long Tour
•Number of albums sold over his career: over 100 million
•Other noteworthy recognitions: an Academy Award, two Grammy Awards, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
•Tuskegee: the title of his #1 Billboard 200 album, named for the city in Alabama where he grew up
•A few of the artists who performed duets with Lionel on Tuskegee: Jimmy Buffett, Tim McGraw, Willie Nelson, Kenny Rogers, Blake Shelton, and Shania Twain
•Fun fact: his remake of “Endless Love” with Shania Twain was nominated for a CMT Music Award in 2012, thirty years after the original duet with Diana Ross was nominated for an Academy Award
•What to expect during the concert: according to Lionel, the set “becomes a giant sing-along most nights.”
•More proof from Lionel of the show’s uniting power: “People always ask me, ‘What are you going to sing tonight, Lionel?’ And I always laugh and reply, ‘What are YOU going to sing tonight?'”
•Opening act certain to bring extra soul: CeeLo Green

* Sebastian Maniscalco & Joey Coco Diaz.

Jeff Eats just wanted to mention to you guys–that two of the funniest comedians currently working the comedy-club circuit are coming to Fort Lauderdale’s IMPROV…if you like to laugh so hard that-you cry…make it your business to see…

Joey Coco Diaz–March 27-29, 2014.
Sebastian Maniscalco–April 10-12, 2014.

Check www.ftl.improv.com for schedule/videos/tickets/other info.

A couple of final thoughts–Jeff Eats has seen both acts and as mentioned earlier they are both…VERY FUNNY! Diaz works-blue and Maniscalco works-clean. The IMPROV site has videos of both Diaz and Maniscalco-so you can see for yourself what Jeff Eats thinks-is funny. Now, we could get into the whole Joe Pesci- GoodFellas’ funny thing… but we won’t- so if you are so inclined- you can run that “So you think I’m funny” scene in your own head.

Burgers & Suds.

The other day Jeff Eats received the following e-mail…

Hey Jeff,
My wife and I recently moved to Fort Lauderdale and came across your site when we were looking for restaurants to try.
You really have a load of reviews and we enjoyed reading about many of your picks.
We are very new to the area so we are just getting our feet wet in finding places to go and could use some help.
For starters, what in your opinion is the best relatively unknown ‘hole in the wall’ that does salads, burgers, sandwiches?
Thanks,
JN

Printed below is a July 13, 2013 story that Jeff Eats did on Burgers & Suds located in Fort Lauderdale. You can check menu/prices at www.burgerssuds.com.

Jeff Eats absolutely loves this joint.

No question in my mind, that Burger & Suds is one of the best “hole in the walls” in South Florida.

The food is amazing.

Burgers & Suds (Fort Lauderdale)
Posted on July 13th, 2013 · American Breakfast Fort Lauderdale Pizza
***** Burgers & Suds, 261 East Commercial Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33334, (954) 772-8007.
You guys can thank me later!
Last night, Jeff Eats ate at Burgers & Suds…for our purposes- let’s call it an “American-Style” hole-in-the-wall that serves salads, burgers, wings, pizzas, sandwiches/wraps, tacos/burritos, Saturday-Sunday breakfast. The name Burgers & Suds is a bit deceiving…for sure, the joints- got 13 different burgers and something like 10 different bottled beer brands—but as I mentioned 2 seconds ago, there is a load of other “items” to stuff your face with.
Before I get into what I “tried”—let me tell, if you want to eat some outrageously good food—then you gotta go to Burgers & Suds. By the way, the joint has only been open…5-months.
I think you guys know by now, that Jeff Eats has eaten in his fair share of South Florida restaurants. Trust me on this, Burgers & Suds’ food is heads and shoulders better than most of the joints that I have been to.
Just so you know, Burgers & Suds looks like an absolute “dump” inside and outside…the inside has a bar that seats maybe 6 and 3 hi-tops that seat 9—the awning covered outside patio has a handful of tables with seating for 24…do the math—we are talking a total of 39 seats for the whole joint.
Before Jeff Eats goes any further, let me tell you that Burgers & Suds is my kinda of a joint or shall I say dump? I seriously doubt that most people looking at Burgers & Suds for the first time-would even consider eating there…
I’m sure, that you-know the old saying…”Don’t judge a book by its cover”—well, Burgers & Suds could be the poster-child for that famous line.
Last night, Jeff Eats’ party of-4 “had”…honey garlic wings (10 wings $8.95), Greek salad ($5.95), 1/2lb cheeseburger with onion rings ($8.95), chicken wrap with sweet potato fries ($7.95), 10″ margarita pizza ($7.95), lamb burger with French fries ($10.95) and the food was amazingly good. No fooling around here, I would rate the cheeseburger right up there with the best that I’ve had ANYWHERE. Let me go as far and say—every item that we had was terrific and could hold its own against South Florida’s best of breed.
Burgers & Suds was a rare find. This joint isn’t some-guy throwing pre-formed frozen burger patties on a grill…the joint is supplied daily by a local butcher shop…hamburgers are charbroiled while lamb burgers are flat-top grilled—salad dressings are made in-house. The back-of-the-house really knows how to “cook” and portion size/price points tells me that a real “pro” is running Burger & Suds.
For right now, I’m thinking-that not too many people know about this joint- but, I’m willing to bet you a breakfast/lunch/or dinner–your choice, that this anonymity won’t last too much longer. There is no way that food like this—doesn’t find a gigantic audience.
For you “drinkers”–in addition to 10 bottled beer-brands, Burgers & Suds has a handful of wines by the glass/bottle…
For you “sports people”– there are 2 big flat screen tvs inside and 1 big flat screen outside.
Not to be too repetitious or nothing—but I’m telling you, you gotta try this joint!
You can check www.burgerssuds.com for menu/prices.
Burgers & Suds is open for lunch/dinner Monday-Friday 10am-9pm, Saturday-Sunday 8am-9pm (breakfast 8am-noon).
