Now that Jeff Eats has become his mother (she started-saving S&H Green Stamps in 1951) you gotta check out redplum.com. The site has tons of printable coupons for groceries, household goods, and other stuff. As Mother Jeff Eats use to say…”Better the money should be in your pocket-than theirs.”

The older I get, the more I realize how smart-the lady was!

Hey Jeff,
Got a question for you.
It seems that the fast food business is loaded with burger, pizza, Mexican, ice cream, grilled cheese and yogurt restaurants.
Have you seen any great fast food ‘ideas’ that haven’t already been exploited? I’m thinking of going into business and don’t want to be a Johnny Come Lately.
Thanks,
Mal K

Mal K:

No question about it-the fast food landscape is loaded with all kinds of concepts.

Jeff Eats recently tried Sticky’s Finger Joint a fast food “chicken-finger” concept that was absolutely dynamite. For right now, there are only two locations-both in Manhattan. Real easy concept-all kinds of chicken fingers/sauces.
You will need to do some homework here…you can start at- stickysfingerjoint.com. Jeff Eats thought that the food was delicious and-the concept definitely has-legs.

Check Sticky’s out. Check the concept out.

Roller Derby

* Roller Derby.

Not sure where Jeff Eats is going with this one…

Anyway,

I don’t know about you guys, but back in Brooklyn in the late 50’s-early-60’s there were loads of Saturday and Sunday afternoons (around 3pm) when tv stations WPIX, WNEW and WOR broadcast Men’s & Women’s Roller Derby…To be perfectly honest with you, Jeff Eats never consciously went “looking” for those Roller Derby broadcasts- but for some odd reason they always popped up on the screen. Just for the record, I was never a fan of the “sport”- but every so often the skaters’ slamming and belting each other caught my attention.

Anyway,

Nothing for nothing, until this afternoon -GOD only knows when the last time that I thought about Roller Derby was…the latest catalyst-my friend Joey C. mentioned that there were Roller Derby teams/leagues all over Florida-and that a site brownpapertickets.com had loads of games/tickets listed.

So,

If you like, love, want to get reacquainted, want to reconnect, want to join a team, want to get tickets, want to learn more about Roller Derby in Florida -you now know where to get info.

Shindig Irish Restaurant & Pub (Port Saint Lucie)

irish pub

***** Shindig Irish Restaurant & Pub, 464 Southwest Port Saint Lucie Boulevard, 34953, (772) 785-6202.

Before Jeff Eats tells his story, I just wanted you guys to know that Shindig had been previously “reviewed” on 8/19/11…today’s review” came about in part as a result of reader Mike N’s suggestion to “re-test” the joint with a claim that Jeff Eats’ August, 2011 outing -and I quote-“Must have been an off night because I have been eating there for years and the food is always terrific.”

With the above in mind, here’s a new-review…

Gonna assume that you guys know what an Irish Pub “looks” like…you know-dark woods, dim lighting, tables, booths, big bar, all types of beer, Irish bands, Shepherd’s Pie, corned beef & cabbage. When you check shindigpub.com for menu/prices you’ll also find a ton of “decor” pictures.

The other night Jeff Eats “did” Shindig Irish Restaurant & Pub and I gotta tell you-I loved the joint. In addition to the requisite Irish-decor, Shindig served killer food. Now this is just an observation, but my past dealings with South Florida-Irish pub joints-have on the whole not been culinary-thrill-rides…nothing terrible, but average stuff at best.

Anyway,

Jeff Eats’ party of 4- “tried” bacon cheeseburger ($10.99), Shepherd’s Pie ($14.99), Bangers & Mash ($12.99), Fish & Chips ($14.99), baby back ribs ($4.99) and I gotta tell you everything was delicious. No fooling here, definitely one of the best-Irish-pub meals I’ve had down here in sunny South Florida.

Before I close this one out, I just wanted to mention that Shindig has all kinds of food and drink “specials”- like $5 burgers on Mondays. The full list of “specials” is listed under EVENTS on shindigpub.com.

One- almost final thought, I’m just thinking…since Jeff Eats has only “done” Shindig twice-with different results-who’s to say which review is more accurate? To that end, I’ve republished below- the original review of 8/19/11 so I’m – like FOX NEWS: FAIR AND BALANCED!!

Finally…

Did you hear the one about the leprechaun who walked into a bar carrying a rooster, a baseball bat and large jar of Skippy Peanut Butter- and the bartender said…

Shindig Irish Restaurant & Pub is open 7 days a week 11am-2am.

***** Shindig Irish Restaurant & Pub, 464 Southwest Port Saint Lucie Boulevard, Port St. Lucie, Florida 34953, (772) 785-6202.

Got a good Irish pub for you…Shindig Irish Restaurant & Pub in Port St. Lucie.

A recent dinner had me “trying”…braised short rib sliders, bacon cheeseburger, shepherd’s pie, fish & chips, corned beef & cabbage. Nothing to get hysterical about “foodwise” here…but the stuff is decent enough. Do like-I did…hit this joint on either a Friday or Saturday night when it features live bands. For “small” money (the most expensive item on the menu is the flat iron steak-$21.99), you’ll eat and drink good and have a blast listening to some of the better rock bands in the area.

Check menu/prices/entertainment schedule at www.shindigpub.com.

The joint is open 7 days a week, 11am-2am.

I ask you,

Does this guy- Wolf Blitzer ever go home or for that matter even have a home?

Mama Lucia’s Pizza (Coconut Creek)

Posted on September 17th, 2014 · Coconut Creek Italian Pizza · No Comments »

***** Mama Lucia’s Pizza, 6560 North Sate Road 7, Coconut Creek, Florida 33073, (954) 429-3991.

Last night Jeff Eats gave “mom & pop” Italian red sauce Mama Lucia’s in Coconut Creek a shot.

You know the “deal” with joints like Mama Lucia’s…appetizers, wings, pizzas, pastas, calzones, strombolis, subs, meat/chicken/seafood entrees (salad, garlic knots, pasta side)…with that in mind, Jeff Eats “tried” large plain pizza, veal cutlet parmesan sub, meatball sub, eggplant rollatini, ricotta & mozzarella calzone–and I gotta tell you every thing was A-OK!

At this stage of this “game” you can check mamaluciaspizzeria.com for menu/prices/other info.

Now you know and Jeff Eats knows that this food-reviewing gig is purely and solely a subjective thing…with that in mind, I gotta tell you that I really enjoyed Mama Lucia’s’ food. The best way to “call it” good solid red sauce stuff/nice sized portions/reasonable prices/pleasant red sauce service and countless glasses of Coca Cola -made me a fan.

Mama Lucia’s Pizza is open Monday-Thursday 11am-10pm, Friday-Saturday 11am-11pm, closed on Sunday.

One final thought, can’t figure out why the joint is closed on Sunday…maybe a Monday, maybe a Tuesday-but Sunday! I don’t know about you guys, but Jeff Eats loves pizza-etc. when he is watching FOOTBALL and so do all “his” friends and family that just happen to be flopping at my-house!

Another Comcast Scam!

Posted on September 16th, 2014 · Music/Events/Other · 59 Comments »

* Another Comcast Scam!

Got the “below”email from Comcast yesterday morning.

Based on Comcast’s history with me-I wouldn’t trust anything that this Company-says.

Guaranteed many boxes won’t be shipped, self installations will be screwed-up and Comcast will somehow make a fortune on this so-called upgrade.

If Comcast “loves” its customers as much as it claims-to, why doesn’t the Company just send installers to every home and do what needs to be done for FREE!

The last time I checked, Jeff Eats wasn’t a Comcast employee-so why do I have to do Comcast’s work without getting paid? Another possibility, Jeff Eats isn’t a tv or for that matter a computer technician…so if I don’t pay Comcast no installation.

Comcast is a bad-news company and don’t you forget it!
