* Routing Of Acts.

I thought that some of you guys might like to see a “typical” e-mail (Jeff Eats received it this morning) that Florida booking agents, concert venues, country clubs, social directors, resorts, HOAs literally receive every day-from artist management companies-concerning the booking of talent. The gist of these e-mails is to arrange for ACTS to “get” a number of booking dates in the same geographical-area…this results in the buyer paying less for the ACT because various expenses are shared by multiple buyers.

***** Perico’s Tex-Mex & American Bar & Grill, 2401 Hancock Bridge Highway, Cape Coral, Florida 33990, (239) 829-0606.

Got a good Mexican/American joint for you…Perico’s Tex-Mex & American Bar & Grill in Cape Coral.

A few weeks ago Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats did the “visiting old New York friends who recently moved to Florida thing”–and ended up in Cape Coral (no insult intended to you Cape Coralians)-long story short, they (two couples) took us to Perico’s- a real casual/reasonably priced- Mexican/American joint with a huge bar area, out door patio, stage area, tons of flat screen tvs, live bands/entertainment 7 days a week…open 7 days a week 11am-7pm.

You can check Perico’s menu which is loaded with Mexican stuff, appetizers, burgers, wings, salads, sandwiches at pericosrestaurant.com…there is also an entertainment calendar which lists all kinds of live music entertainment covering doo wop, oldies, classic rock, country, Sinatra-smooth and blues.

Jeff Eats “sampled” in one form or another chicken/beef- tacos/burritos/enchiladas/quesadillas, fried pickles, fried zucchini, cheeseburger, Philly cheesesteak sub, steak fajitas, flan and fried ice cream…and I gotta tell you, everything was A-OK! Just so we are straight, nothing gourmet or sensational or outstanding going on here–just solid bar food-(now for the sentimental stuff) that when-eaten with folks- you’ve known for 30 years (who picked up the bill)- tastes absolutely great!

Let me wrap this up for you…

With or without friends, you’ll enjoy Perico’s Tex-Mex & American Bar & Grill.

* Election Day!

Today is Election Day.

Just got this e-mail from someone I don’t even know.

Jeff Eats isn’t trying to be political or nothing here.

Just-found this to be a nice read, on Election Day!

*****

Will you give this to my Daddy?

As a Company, Southwest Airlines is going to support ‘Red Fridays.’

Last week I was in Atlanta , Georgia attending a conference. While I was in the airport, returning home, I heard several people behind me beginning to clap and cheer. I immediately turned around and witnessed one of the greatest acts of patriotism I have ever seen.

Moving through the terminal was a group of soldiers in their camos. As they began heading to their gate, everyone (well almost everyone) was abruptly to their feet with their hands waving and cheering.

When I saw the soldiers, probably 30-40 of them, being applauded and cheered for, it hit me. I’m not alone. I’m not the only red-blooded American who still loves this country and supports our troops and their families.

Of course I immediately stopped and began clapping for these young unsung heroes who are putting their lives on the line everyday for us so we can go to school, work and home without fear or reprisal.

Just when I thought I could not be more proud of my country or of our service men and women, a young girl, not more than 6 or 7 years old, ran up to one of the male soldiers. He kneeled down and said ‘hi.’

The little girl then asked him if he would give something to her daddy for her.

The young soldier, who didn’t look any older than maybe 22 himself, said he would try and what did she want to give to her Daddy. Then suddenly the little girl grabbed the neck of this soldier, gave him the biggest hug she could muster and then kissed him on the cheek.

The mother of the little girl, who said her daughter’s name was Courtney, told the young soldier that her husband was a Marine and had been in Iraq for 11 months now. As the mom was explaining how much her daughter Courtney missed her father, the young soldier began to tear up.

When this temporarily single mom was done explaining her situation, all of the soldiers huddled together for a brief second. Then one of the other servicemen pulled out a military-looking walkie-talkie. They started playing with the device and talking back and forth on it..

After about 10-15 seconds of this, the young soldier walked back over to Courtney, bent down and said this to her, ‘I spoke to your daddy and he told me to give this to you.’ He then hugged this little girl that he had just met and gave her a kiss on the cheek. He finished by saying ‘your daddy told me to tell you that he loves you more than anything and he is coming home very soon.’

The mom at this point was crying almost uncontrollably and as the young soldier stood to his feet, he saluted Courtney and her mom. I was standing no more than 6 feet away from this entire event.

As the soldiers began to leave, heading towards their gate, people resumed their applause. As I stood there applauding and looked around, there were very few dry eyes, including my own. That young soldier in one last act of selflessness, turned around and blew a kiss to Courtney with a tear rolling down his cheek.

We need to remember everyday all of our soldiers and their families and thank God for them and their sacrifices. At the end of the day, it’s good to be an American.

RED FRIDAYS —– Very soon, you will see a great many people wearing Red every Friday. The reason? Americans who support our troops used to be called the ‘silent majority’. We are no longer silent, and are voicing our love for God, country and home in record breaking numbers.

We are not organized, boisterous or over-bearing. We get no liberal media coverage on TV, to reflect our message or our opinions. Many Americans, like you, me and all our friends, simply want to recognize that the vast majority of Americans supports our troops.

Our idea of showing solidarity and support for our troops with dignity and respect starts this Friday -and continues each and every Friday until the troops all come home, sending a deafening message that.. Every red-blooded American who supports our men and women afar will wear something red.

By word of mouth, press, TV — let’s make the United States on every Friday a sea of red much like a homecoming football game in the bleachers.

If every one of us who loves this country will share this with acquaintances, co-workers, friends, and family. It will not be long before the USA is covered in RED and it will let our troops know the once ‘silent’ majority is on their side more than ever; certainly more than the media lets on.

Plaza Theatre In Manalapan Out Of Business!

* Plaza Theatre In Manalapan Out Of business!

Literally just this second- got the below e-mail…

Look, not Jeff Eats’ style to wish anyone bad, that said…read the e-mail, look how Plaza Theatre willy-nilly- uses the words “theatre” and “theater”- sloppppppy! Nothing for nothing, just may-be Plaza Theater (get it!) was sloppy in soliciting donations and promoting ticket sales- and that’s why it’s no more!

Just an observation.

*****
We are very sorry to inform the public that due to lack of donations and ticket sales, the Plaza Theatre has had to close it doors. Since our closure, we have been working diligently to arrange for our patrons’ tickets to be honored by other quality local theaters. We are pleased to announce that we have formed a coalition of theaters willing to accept Plaza Theatre tickets for the 2014/15 season, including subscribers, groups, and individual ticket holders. Theatres accepting Plaza Theatre tickets include:
Broward Stage Door Theatre Coral Springs 954-344-7765
www.stagedoortheatre.com

Outre’ Theatre Company Boca Raton 954-300-2149
www.outretheatrecompany.com

Slow Burn Theatre Boca Raton 954-323-7884
www.slowburntheatre.org

Please contact the theaters directly through their respective box offices to make arrangements to have your Plaza Theatre tickets honored for their productions. Please note that these theatres are not receiving payment for tickets, with the exception of balances due on group sales. Proof of purchase of Plaza Theatre tickets must be given in exchange for new tickets. There will be no refunds.

Each theatre has its own parameters, and must be dealt with individually. They will make arrangements for all shows on their schedules for the 2014/15 season. Old Jews Telling Jokes at The Broward Stage Door is not available. Please do not call or email The Plaza Theatre, as it is closed.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your patronage and patience.

A recent e-mail from reader HF…

Jeff,

My husband and I have been reading Jeff Eats for a number of years. We both really enjoy your site and have tried many of the joints that you have recommended.

We are currently planning our oldest son’s bar mitzvah. It is scheduled for October, 2015. Based on your site, I know that you can appreciate what a huge project this bar mitzvah party is turning into.

Unlike most, we are going to do the entire service/party and our home in Miami. We are planning an outdoor event for close to 200 people.

We really enjoy putting things together by ourselves, so there are no party planners or other so called experts involved in the project.

We would really appreciate a suggestion on a Company that does terrific unique desserts. candies and carnival type novelty foods.

Thanks,

HF

HF:

South Florida has a ton of catering companies that do top shelf desserts, candies, etc…

One company-that pops into mind is Donut Divas & Fun Foods located in Miami.

Over the past several years, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats have “attended” a number of events in which it had a hand and Donut Divas always killed it.

Congrats-on the bar mitzvah…

One of Jeff Eats’ favorite menu items…

Don’t plan on eating at Original Frankie’s Famous Pizza because it’s takeout only. The joint only has 2 menu items, pizza and garlic rolls. You want great stuff!-order yourself a pie and some rolls-Frankie’s must be doing something right–the joint has been around since 1955.

Just a quick observation,

The older Jeff Eats gets, the more-I become just like my Great Uncle Sammy Ginsberg (on my mother’s side)–for some reason, I find myself REPEATING-and- REPEATING and REPEATING things.

With that in mind, back on June 4, 2014 and August 28, 2014 I told you guys about- Gridiron Grill-Off set for November 8, 2014…rather than repeating what I told you back on June 4, 2014 and August 28, 2014- all I can tell you is that this charity event is going to be off-the chart! Celebrities, Sports Stars, Great Food, Great Music, Great Drink–all I can tell you is that this charity event is going to be off- the chart!

Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats will be there, will be there, will be there-and you should be there too, and you should be there too!-I know, enough already with the repeating bit! ok-ok-ok.

Somewhere -down below in the reprinted June 4th & August 28th “stories” is a full description of the event…trust Jeff Eats-this thing is going to be terrific! terrific! terrific!

Finally, you can buy tickets/other info at gridirongriller.com.

Hope to see you guys out there next Saturday, Saturday, Saturday.

Just got the first “official” PR piece for John Offerdahl’s “big” annual charity event.

You can read the details below.

If you are/were a Dolphin’s fan and have 85 bucks to spend–you would be “silly” not to go this 1pm-4pm outdoor PARTY!

Jeff Eats has been to past John Offerdahl’s Gridiron Grillers and the food, drink, entertainment–were as good as it gets!

DATE ANNOUNCED FOR “JOHN OFFERDAHL’S BROWARD HEALTH®

GRIDIRON GRILL-OFF FOOD, WINE & TAILGATE FESTIVAL” ON NOVEMBER 8
POMPANO BEACH, FL (June 4, 2014) – “John Offerdahl’s Broward Health® Gridiron Grill-Off Food, Wine & Tailgate Festival” will score big when it returns on Sat., Nov. 8 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Pompano Beach Amphitheater, 1806 N.E. 6th Street, Pompano Beach. The 5th annual culinary showdown benefitting recognized charities will pair Miami Dolphins legends with top local chefs to prepare signature dishes, plus feature the best in food, wine, music and more.
“We are thrilled to bring this exciting showcase of food and fun to South Florida once again,” said John Offerdahl, event founder and former Miami Dolphins All-Pro Linebacker. “This will be the fifth year in a row that fans can enjoy this charitable event where football, food and charity collide to feed the needs of kids in crisis.”
Part of the success of this event is the fan interaction with Miami Dolphins legends paired with South Florida’s top chefs. These teams will create winning dishes for all to sample, such as last year’s “Judge’s Choice” recipe, Santorini Grilled Octopus, prepared by Miami Dolphins “Undefeated Team” Guard #64 Ed Newman and Chef Peter Boulukus of YOLO and “People’s Choice” award-winning dish, Bacon and Bleu Rib-Eye, created by Dolphins legend Safety #47 Glenn Blackwood and Chef Victor Franco of Oceans 234. Grill-Off attendees will taste these culinary masterpieces paired with a selection of Gallo wines, vote for their favorite grill recipe and look on as judges select the winning team. This year’s participating Dolphins players and chefs will be announced at a later date.
100% of event net proceeds will benefit Offerdahl’s Hand-Off Foundation, which directs funds to agencies that “Feed the Needs of Kids in Crisis,” including 4KIDS of South Florida, HOPE South Florida, Here’s Help, Florida Restaurant & Lodging Association, Miami Dolphins Foundation and Taste of the NFL.
Tickets for the Gridiron Grill-Off are $85 each, which includes access to Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey Tailgate Zone and the Southeast Toyota Cornhole Stadium. Tickets go on sale Tuesday, July 15 and can be purchased at www.gridirongrilloff.com.
This tribute to football, food and charity is sponsored by Broward Health and in part by Walgreens.
