Sweet Dewey’s BBQ (Boca Raton)
Sweet Dewey’s BBQ.
Hearing a tremendous amount of good- buzz about this new bbq-joint set to open in Boca Raton next week.
Jeff Eats visited the “site” a few days ago- talk about a “hole in the wall” – but if I do say so myself- it’s a really cool looking “hole in the wall.” From what I can tell, order at the counter- wall counter seating/handful of tables inside and outside- like I just said, real cool looking- stainless steel/black chalkboard decor. If the food “works”-gonna be a load of takeout action going-down!
Dwayne Hopper -the guy running the joint…has a big “rep”- but you and Jeff Eats both know-that the proof is in the pudding…we’ll soon see!
You can follow this one at…sweetdeweysbbq.com.
DISH OF THE WEEK (Sunday- 12/7/14- Snyder’s Of Hanover Pretzel Rods)
***** DISH OF THE WEEK (Sunday- 12/7/14).
One of Jeff Eats’ favorite menu items…
SNYDER’S OF HANOVER PRETZEL RODS
12oz. bag $3.49
Snyder’s Of Hanover (snydersofhanover.com)
This one- is a throw back to Jeff Eats’ youth…back in the 50s-60s I use to buy pretzel rods in the neighborhood candy store…2 cents a piece, 3 for a nickel. Back then, I loved eating them- with an ice-cold Coca Cola…today, I still love eating them with an ice-cold Coca Cola…I guess some things never change! I usually buy-mine at Publix. Not sure if “today’s” are the same brand I grew-up on, but they sure “taste” the same.
Grampa’s Bakery & Restaurant (Dania Beach)
***** Grampa’s Bakery & Restaurant, 17 Southwest 1st Street, Dania Beach, Florida 33004, (954) 923-2163.
Here’s another one of Jeff Eats’ favorite “out of sight, out of mind” joints…Grampa’s Bakery & Restaurant in Dania Beach.
Terrific “diner” food…terrific bakery.
I first told you guys about Grampa’s way- back on July 25, 2008…hadn’t really thought about the joint- until this past Thanksgiving when friends brought over Grampa’s apple, blueberry and cherry pies for the holiday. DELICIOUS!!
Nothing for nothing, Grampa’s has been around since 1957 (for you mathematicians out there, that’s 57 years)-so I’m thinking that it must be doing something right.
Check grampasbakery.com for menu/info.

***** Grampa’s Bakery & Restaurant, 17 SW. 1st Street, Dania Beach, Florida 33004 (954) 923-2163.
Grampa’s has been around something like 50+ years. It is basically a local diner with a bakeshop attached. It has the requisite counter and booth seating…and it still looks like it did when it first opened.
Grampa’s is open Monday 6:30am-3pm…Tuesday-Saturday 6:30am-9pm…Sunday 8am-4pm.
Grampa’s is a terrific place for a “diner” breakfast, lunch and dinner…not to mention the incredible baked goods that are made in house.
Absolutely nothing fancy here…these old nostalgic diner-joints are right-up there with my favorite places to eat.

When You’re In Love The Whole World Is Jewish (Mizner Park Cultural Center-Boca Raton)
* When You’re In Love The Whole World Is Jewish.
Haven’t seen it yet, but Jeff Eats’ gut (and a bunch of friends who saw the LA- production last year) tells me- that…
“When You’re In Love The Whole World Is Jewish”-directed by Jason Alexander is a very funny show!
The show is scheduled to run December 11, 2014-January 11, 2015 at Mizner Park Cultural Center.
You can catch- info/tickets at worldisjewishtheplay.com.
When a young Jewish boy decides he wants to marry his very gentile girlfriend, who knows nothing about Jewish customs or culture, he seeks the help of his Rabbi. The learned man then acts as a guide, taking the couple on a ride through the Jewish way of life, as a way of educating the young girl. This laugh-filled journey, incorporating twenty-five legendary comedy sketches and songs, covers every facet of Jewish life, from business and travel, to marriage and family, and is sure to appeal to all, because as the title of the show says, “When You’re In Love, The Whole World Is Jewish.”
Howley’s Restaurant (West Palm Beach)
***** Howley’s Restaurant, 4700 South Dixie Highway, West Palm Beach, Florida 33405, (561) 833-5691.
Got something really terrific for you guys…Howley’s Restaurant in West Palm Beach…for our purposes let’s call Howley’s a diner.
You know what “out of sight, out of mind” means? Sure you do…Well! Howley’s fits the bill…great- diner in West Palm Beach, which Boca Raton resident-Jeff Eats keeps forgetting about…just that simple…”out of sight, out of mind.”
Long story short…
Last night after dropping Son Jeff Eats off at Palm Beach International Airport- the combination of 2 wrong left turns followed by 3 wrong right turns and a fight with Mrs. Jeff Eats over my not being able to follow her instructions-we ended up right in front of Howley’s Restaurant. The joint looked exactly the same as when I first told you guys about it way back on June 17, 2008…making lemonade out of lemons-the crab-cakes that Mrs. Jeff Eats had and my bacon cheeseburger & French fries were delicious.
If you haven’t “yet” been to Howley’s…it’s an absolute must try…
Howley’s is open Sunday-Thursday 7am-2am, Friday-Saturday 8am-5am.
By the way, that June 17, 2008 write-up printed is down below.

June 17th, 2008 · American Breakfast West Palm Beach
***** Howley’s Restaurant, 4700 South Dixie Highway, West Palm Beach, Florida 33405, (561) 833-5691.
One of my favorite South Florida joints to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner at is Howley’s Restaurant which is on Dixie Highway in West Palm Beach.
This joint has been around since 1950…and is basically an old fashioned diner. Other than a flat screen tv here and there, you’ll swear that you are in a diner circa 1950. This joint doesn’t play the Johnny Rocket’s game. The decor is the real McCoy.
Howley’s does “everything.” Breakfast-lunch-dinner…In addition to a counter, there is booth and table seating. There is also an outdoor dining patio.
Just so you know, the guy who owns the famous Dada Restaurant located in Delray Beach bought Howley’s about 3 years ago…soooo the food is absolutely top-notch. This joint makes crab-cakes, the likes of which you have never tasted before.
Over the past few years, I probably have eaten in this joint 20 times. I absolutely love the atmosphere, the food and the hip-youngsters that comprise the wait-staff (no they don’t wear 1950’s costumes).
Howley’s prices are “all over the place.” There are all kinds of bargain specials, but some of the dishes are pretty pricey. Like I said before, this is a diner whose short-order-cooks were replaced by top-notch chefs.
This is a great place. If you look closely, you will see that Howley’s is right next door to a NO TELL MOTEL circa 1950. I sure wish Howley’s walls could talk.
Howley’s is open 7 days a week for breakfast, lunch and dinner. As for the crowd…tee shirts/shorts…tuxedos…suits…bikers…you name it.
Great place. Don’t miss it.
Nana’s Diner (West Palm Beach)
***** Nana’s Diner, 1230 Military Trail, West Palm Beach, Florida 33409, (561) 640-2922.
Got a real good “diner” for you guys…Nana’s Diner in West Palm Beach.
Let Jeff Eats start by saying that I absolutely loved Nana’s.
As you regular-readers know or should know by now, I’m a huge diner “fan”-and I must tell you- Nana’s is the real deal. Although- Nana’s has only been around for something-like 2 years its got the “diner formula” down-pat…counter-booth-table-outside patio seating…full liquor license. On the menu front, DINER- loads of breakfast stuff, appetizers, salads, Mexican/Greek/Italian dishes, sandwiches, burgers, meat/fish/chicken entrees, desserts…trust Jeff Eats when I tell you-everyone in your party will find-what to eat.
The other day, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats did breakfast…strawberry banana Belgian waffle ($7.75), western omelette/home fries/toast ($8.95), multi-grain pancakes ($7.95) and I gotta tell you-everything was right on the money…throw in super friendly wait-service and delicious coffee (per Mrs. Jeff Eats A/K/A Juan Valdez Eats) makes- Nana’s a big time winner in Jeff Eats’ book.
Like I said 4.2 seconds ago, I loved the joint. I highly recommend that if you live or work in Nana’s neighborhood that you give it a shot!
Nana’s hours are Sunday-Thursday 6am-10pm, Saturday-Sunday 6am-11pm.
