***** Barone’s La Pizzeria.

I’m gonna save you guys the “trouble” of e-mailing me…to find out where Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats are going for Valentines Day-2015…

Just this very minute, I asked Mrs. Jeff Eats to make a reservation at Barone’s La Pizzeria which is one of our favorite mom & pop red sauce South Florida Italian joints.

We “did” Valentines Day-2014 there…and had an absolute blast.

By the way, if some of you guys are like Jeff Eats…Saturday, February 14, 2015! Your welcome!!

Anyway,

Printed down below, is- Barone’s La Pizzeria- Valentines Day’s 2015- “flyer”–Yeah, I caught the spelling errors,,, and some of the text doesn’t make sense… and there is no pricing…hey!- they are Italian restaurant guys- not Jewish Brooklyn lawyers-Capice! All I know, is Barone’s makes great food, has great service, has reasonable prices and its owners are the nicest people going! By the way, I see that falsetto-singer extraordinaire, Michael D’Amore will be performing…the guy absolutely kills!

So, if you want to go out- real easy nothing fancy schmancy- go call Barone’s at (954) 068-4396- find out what the “story” is and if it makes sense to you, make a reservation.

Printed below is Jeff Eats’ Barone’s La Pizzeria review from February 15, 2014.

Looking forward to seeing some of you guys there!

Call it crazy, but at least once a week -Jeff Eats gets asked among other things-to name his favorite south Florida Italian/pizza joints…very flattering -to think that so many of you guys actually believe that I know what I am talking about…

Anyway…

Way back on June 28, 2010- Jeff Eats “reviewed” Barone’s La Pizzeria…and I gotta tell you, that over the ensuing years, Barone’s has become one of Jeff Eats’ “go to joints.” Personally, I would match Barone’s food/prices/service up-against the best “mom & pop” red sauce players in South Florida.

So…you now know where Jeff Eats goes when he is craving -outstanding New York Style pizza, amazing garlic knots, fabulous minestrone soup, delicious veal marsala—so forth and so on.

One final thought…Barone’s has been around for something like 40 years…that should tell you something!

The original (6/28/10) review is reprinted below.

***** Barone’s La Pizzeria, 5632 West Sample Road, Margate, Florida 33073 (954) 968-4396.
Barone’s La Pizzeria is a “Mom & Pop—red sauce” pizza joint located in Margate.
You can check its menu/prices at www.lapizzeriamargate.com.

You know and I know that “Mom & Pop” pizza joints are a dime a dozen-down here in old South Florida. I think the way it works…the strip center landlord first signs Publix, then Walgreens, then a Chinese takeout, then a pizza joint, then a dry cleaners…then a —-(you fill in the blanks)….then half of the businesses go bust…

Anyway, the other evening, I gave Barone’s La Pizzeria a shot- and I gotta tell you, the food is real-good. My party did pizza, shrimp scampi, veal parmigiana, meat lasagna, chicken & shrimp alfredo, penne ala vodka—and like I just said, real good.

As you know– over the past few years, old Jeff Eats has eaten-in his fair share of “mom & pop” Italian joints…and, to be perfectly honest with you, most of them barely get the job done, but then again, that’s the nature of the beast…”cheap is cheap”….”you get what you pay for”…”one if by land, 2 if by sea.” Trust me on this one, Barone’s La Pizzeria is REAL GOOD…if you live or work near the joint, I highly recommend that you give it a try.

By the way, Barone’s La Pizzeria is right across Sample Road from the Seminole Casino Coconut Creek and is maybe a 3-minute drive (west) from the Festival Flea Market on Sample Road.

Barone’s La Pizzeria is open Sunday-Thursday 11am-10pm and Friday-Saturday 11am-11pm

* The Legendary Groups & Voices Of Doo Wop.

Just this very minute, Jeff Eats “picked-up”- 6 tickets online for January 24th’s- The Legendary Groups & Voices at Kings Point. Call me a big spender, but as a non Kings Point-resident, I had to pay 17 bucks instead of $14 per ticket.

Trust me on this one, I’ve seen Cleveland Still & The Dubs, Jimmy Gallagher (lead singer of The Passions) and Michael D’Amore and they all-put on a great show. Throw in guest appearances by- various members of South Florida based-The Doo Wop Mob and Johnny T (formerly of The Mystics)-and for $17 a head, Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats and some friends are gonna see a great doo wop show.

If this kinda stuff interests you…while I was online- I noticed that there were a handful of really good seats left. You can catch tickets at kingspointdelray.com.

Sweet Dewey’s BBQ (Boca Raton)

***** Sweet Dewey’s BBQ, 9181 Glades Road, Boca Raton, Florida 33434, (561) 488-9688.

Homerun!

Last night Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats ate at Sweet Dewey’s BBQ in Boca Raton. Wanna- talk hole in the wall! Sweet Dewey’s which opened maybe a month ago- is something like 1,000 sq. feet- seats maybe 30 combined inside tables/handful of outside tables! This joint is so-small, that the layout doesn’t even allow for a soda dispenser…but don’t worry- its got plenty of canned sodas and bottled beers to wash down its reasonably priced food.

Sweet Dewey’s is the brainchild of Chef Dwayne Hooper and shopping center Landlord- Brian Bernstein…who correctly figured that Boca Raton needed a dynamite bbq joint-featuring the culinary skills of Hooper who previously tended shop at Saint Andrews Country Club, Polo Country Club and La Vielle Maison all in Boca Raton.

Trust Jeff Eats when I tell you that Sweet Dewey’s is a home run! Guaranteed-when word starts to spread about how good this joint’s food is- the eat-in/take-out lines are gonna be huge!

Rather then beating around the bush…the turkey chili, beef brisket, St. Louis bbq ribs, bbq chicken, cedar plank salmon, mac & cheese, corn bread, pecan pie absolutely blew Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats away!

You regular Jeff Eats’ readers know (or should know) that I’m not really a big-fan of smoked bbq stuff…that said, this guy Chef Dewey (in my book)- has this smoking thing down to a fine science- for sure the stuff is smoked, but “perfectly” done- if that makes sense to you! Every smoked item, was done just right-and not one thing came even close to being too smokey tasting.

Look! I could tell you as to- how the meat literally fell off the bbq bones…or that the homemade hot pecan pie was off the chart…or that the turkey chili had a great little kick to it…or that Sweet Dewey’s makes its own bbq sauce/has 5 flavors/and that Dewey’s Original BBQ Sauce kills, but I won’t… BUT- I will tell you, that Sweet Dewey’s is playing at a whole ‘nother level than 96.7% of the bbq joints that you probably- frequent down here in South Florida.

Anyway,

If you want to eat dynamite top quality bbq…you can check Sweet Dewey’s BBQ menu/prices/other info at sweetdeweysbbq.com.

The joint is open 7 days a week 11:30am-9pm…and if you wear anything but your tee shirt/shorts/flip flop ensemble, you’re gonna be over-dressed!

The Original Popcorn House (Delray Beach)

***** The Original Popcorn House, 10 Northeast 5th Avenue, Delray Beach, Florida 33483, (561) 865-7300.

Jeff Eats is mad at The Original Popcorn House!

Yesterday, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats “sampled” a handful of The Original Popcorn House’s gourmet popcorn flavors- and I gotta tell you, delicious top-shelf stuff.

Why am I mad…The Original Popcorn House which opened on December 31, 2014 couldn’t have picked a worse retail location to open in. Look! I’m no Donald Trump but- I do know or at least I think I know, that the side street location adjacent to Atlantic Avenue that its owners “picked”- sucks…sorry to be so blunt, but I can’t for love nor money see how this small retail shop-makes it!

Call it frustration…but it really aggravates me when I see individual-entrepreneurs- with talent and a great product- “bag” themselves…now, unless The Original Popcorn House’s owners – own the building, or their mother/father own the building. or their brother/sister/brother-in law/sister-in law own the building…there in no way in this world that the “block’s” foot traffic can support this business. Nothing for nothing, Jeff Eats was in the store at 3:30pm during a street fair on Atlantic Avenue which must have had 22,000,000 people in the streets- yet this joint had just me and 2-others inside…My mind says, “Just imagine how good business is gonna be, come June, July and August. ”

There is an old Swiss saying- “location, location, location.”

Hopefully, Jeff Eats is dead wrong on this, but I don’t think so!

Anyway,

You now know about a terrific retail gourmet popcorn store…

You can check menu/prices/info at originalpopcornhouse.com.

The joint is open, Tuesday-Sunday 11am-10pm, closed Monday.

* Tribute Music & Food Truck Festival.

Now, it’s not gonna be exactly like Woodstock-’69…but it’s gonna be something real-good!

Tribute Music & Food Truck Festival at the Wellington Amphitheater… Thursday-Saturday, February 26-28, 2015, 5pm-9:30pm (Thursday), 5pm-10;30pm (Friday-Saturday).

First things first, the CONCERTS ARE FREE. Just bring yourself and if you’d like a lawn chair, blanket.

Second things second, this is a Family oriented event so kids are welcome.

Third things third, there will be loads of food trucks so nobody’s gonna starve.

Fourth things fourth, unlike Woodstock ’69 (which didn’t start out free) this Festival is FREE. Jeff Eats knows that he already told you-that this “thing” is free- just wanted to see if you actually remember the stuff that I tell you! By the way, parking is also FREE.

Fifth things fifth, based on the tribute acts set to perform, Jeff Eats is willing to bet you a small order of French fries that the Amphitheater is going to be packed every night. Trust me when I tell you-that Satisfaction (Rolling Stones), Odyssey Road (Journey), The Long Run (The Eagles), The Blues Brothers Soul Patrol Band (The Blues Brothers), Young Elvis (Tom Jones, just fooling with ya!) are all Top-Shelf tribute artists. Jeff Eats has seen all of the acts- and every-one of them absolutely kills!

Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff’s have all 3-dates penned in-our calendar book. All this “thing” needs is some nice weather- and it should be an absolute blast.

To wrap it up,

Printed below is a “story” that Jeff Eats did on the Wellington Amphitheater on 1/13/15…take a look at it. In addition to general info-you’ll find listed- The Amphitheater’s January-February, 2015…The Wellington Amphitheater does a great job on FREE EVENTS…the list will give you some idea as to what- it has cooking in the comimg weeks.

Hopefully, Jeff Eats will “catch” some of you guys at the Tribute Music & Food Truck Festival!

* Wellington Amphitheater, 12100 Forest Hill Boulevard, Wellington, Florida 33414, (561) 791-4000.
Got a real heads-up for some of you guys, the Wellington Amphitheater which is located on Forest Hill Boulevard just west of 441 (State Road 7).

In a nutshell, on a weekly basis/in the evening- the Amphitheater- holds Free Family Oriented Events, such as Movies, Concerts and Food Truck “Invasions” …all you gotta do, is bring yourself and maybe a lawn chair, or blanket. Like I just said, the events are FREE and there is plenty of Free Parking.

Jeff Eats has seen a handful of some real good concerts there- and I gotta tell you- the combination of nice weather/food truck stuff/terrific music- in my book, really can’t be beat!

Just a quick shout out to the Amphitheater’s “booker”…”Your selection of “acts” is terrific.”

Long story short, if this kinda stuff is of interest you, then you- gotta keep a close eye on wellintongovfl.com where you’ll find schedules/other info.

In the meantime, to help you guys out…I’ve listed Wellington Amphitheater’s January & February, 2015 schedule.

***** Walls Old Fashioned Ice Cream.

Yesterday afternoon, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats did something real-simple… figuring that we had “no school” on Monday-we took a drive down to Miami and had ice cream cones at Walls Old Fashioned Ice Cream.

Printed down below is a Jeff Eats’ “review” dated- July 8, 2008.

A cone of vanilla and a cone of coffee with chocolate sprinkles on a beautiful sunny day- just that simple!

Terrific ice cream…

Wall’s is open Sunday-Thursday noon-10pm, Friday-Saturday noon-11pm.
_____

July 8, 2008
***** Wall’s Old Fashioned Ice Cream, 8075 SW 67th Avenue, Miami, Florida 33143 (305) 740-9830.

Wall’s is literally Ice Cream Heaven…if you don’t like ice cream, then Wall’s is not for you. This free standing 1950’s “looking” take-out joint with its outdoor red/white umbrella-tables features something like 40 different flavors of premium quality home made ice cream. For sure, its got yogurt and fat free stuff, but ice cream is the king at Wall’s.

Do yourself a favor and check Wall’s website wallsicecreamfl.com and see if you can honestly tell me (after looking at its menu/photos) that you don’t want to go there RIGHT AWAY.

This a great place. Once again, if you don’t like ice cream Wall’s is not for you.

Wall’s is open 7 days a week.
