***** Red Cow, 1025 North Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33304, (954) 652-1524.

Last night Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats and another couple ate in a bbq-joint named Red Cow. Just this simple, some of the most delicious bbq-that I’ve eaten in a very long time.. By the way don’t quote me, but I’m thinking the joint has been open something like 18 months!

I’d be lying to you-if I actually tried to explain the bbq-“style” Red Cow uses…I know that I have kids who went to sleep away camp in Asheville, North Carolina… I’ve flown over Dallas at least 23 times and I recall having been to Atlanta, Georgia 7 times- but I’m just not qualified to tell you styles.

Anyway,

Like I said 2.3 seconds ago, some of the most delicious bbq-going! For sure, I can tell you that the stuff is definitely “smoked”- but not smoked where the smoke overwhelms everything. I can also tell you, that Red Cow “uses” dry rubs and 3- actually make that 4 types of bbq-sauce if you want to “customize” your bbq.

Let me tell you what Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats and another couple “tried”…but before I do, I just want you to know, that Red Cow’s portions are ENORMOUS- so when you go, figure on sharing “dishes”- you’ll “save” some cash and- just as important, get to try-all kinds of stuff.

The folks who own Red Cow know what they are doing, they have a menu that has a handful of appetizers and salads, a list of bbq entrees that literally allows you to mix and match what shows up, a load of sandwiches, sides and desserts. Before Jeff Eats gets to the “eating”…I wanted to mention that our waiter Garrett was amazing-good. He knew the menu cold, made great recommendations and made sure that the beer and soda glasses were never empty.

Last night our party of 4- had…iron skillet corn bread, chopped salad, beef ribs, baby back pork ribs, beef brisket, pulled pork, prime rib, rotisserie chicken, corn fritters, corn on the cob, cowboy mashed potatoes, jalapeno cheddar sausages, fried brussel sprouts, coleslaw, peanut butter/white chocolate tart with vanilla ice cream. Hey! I already told you that the portions were enormous and the joint lets you customize what shows up on your plate. Just so you don’t get scared- or nothing- the most expensive item on the menu the- Eat More Meat Combo runs 23 bucks and I’m telling you, it can easily feed 3 people (unless one of the 3 is my friend Bobby G. who clocks in around 287, wears a size 52 suit and claims to have some kinda gland problem).

Now, nothing for nothing- I tried everything…and of course- some stuff was better than some other stuff! I will tell you, that the chopped salad (shallot Dijon vinaigrette), beef brisket, prime rib, wagyu beef ribs, cowboy mashed potato and chicken were absolute dynamite and I do mean dynamite. Not to be too repetitive, everything we had was delicious, but the stuff I just mentioned- really caught my attention.

At this stage of the game you can check redcowftl.com for menu/prices/info.

Finally, real cool casual décor, full liquor bar, large tv screens, you can wear shorts/tee shirts/flip flops and the odds say-you’ll leave with a bag full of leftovers.

Red Cow is a winner. You definitely got to try this joint!

Red Cow is open Monday-Saturday 11:30am-10pm, Sunday for brunch 9:30am-1:30pm and then 1:30pm-9pm.

Argentinian Deli- part grocery store/part fast food restaurant/part deli…real simple, this joint makes some of the most delicious empanadas that Jeff Eats has ever eaten. Now you gotta trust me here, when I tell you that-in my day-I’ve eaten my fair share of empanadas and Argentinian Deli’s stuff is amazing-delicious. The joint usually runs a “special” 3 for 6 bucks and throws a can of soda into the mix. Last time I was there, the joint had 9 different fillings- it also has all kinds of appetizers, sandwiches, entrees. Kick-off 2015 right and catch some stuff at Argentinian Deli-its food is terrific.

Rosedale Brick Oven (Coral Springs, Naples)

***** Rosedale Brick Oven, 2049 North University Drive, Coral Springs, Florida 33071, (954) 752-3556.

Couldn’t have picked a better joint than Coral Spring’s- Rosedale Brick Oven… to have “broken” my 43 hours old-2015 New Year’s Diet Resolution. Just so you know, Rosedale also has a joint in Naples, Florida-so now you know!

Long story real short, Jeff Eats has eaten in a ton of wood fired-pizza joints and I gotta tell you, Rosedale is absolute dynamite.

Helping Jeff Eats celebrate the “diet demise” was Mrs. Jeff Eats, Son Jeff Eats and Daughter Jeff Eats…ordered stuff included- wings italiano ($10-10 wings), mista salad (large-$9), white pizza ($10.50- mozzarella/ricotta-garlic/basil/virgin olive oil), New York pizza ($9.50-tomato sauce/mozzarella), meat lasagna ($14) and I gotta tell you, everything was delicious.

Like I said 2.6 seconds ago, Jeff Eats has eaten in a ton-of wood fired-pizza joints, some good, some not so good! Trust me on the call here, this Rosedale joint is right-up there with the- best South Florida players.

In a second or two I’m gonna let you check menu/prices/locations/info at rosedalepizza.com…but before I do, let me tell you that “unlike” most of its wood fired brethren with their relatively limited menus, Rosedale’s menu- (in addition to the expected salads, pizzas, wings and handful of other stuff)-has loads of appetizers, sandwiches, pastas, meat/chicken/seafood entrees…so nobody and I do mean nobody in your party- is gonna bitch because they couldn’t find what to eat.

To wrap it up for you…dynamite food, reasonable prices, super pleasant service, your tee shirt/shorts/flip flop ensemble will work well…

Rosedale is open Monday-Thursday 11:30am-9pm, Friday-Saturday 11:30am-10pm, Sunday noon-9pm.

As Cologero comes of age, he must struggle with the choice of following his beloved father’s values or submitting to the temptations of a life in organized crime.

Jeff Norris (Kings Point- Delray Beach)

* Jeff Norris.

Jeff Norris, one of America’s funniest “clean” comedians is scheduled to appear on Sunday-January 4th at 8pm-Kings Point in Delray Beach.

Jeff Eats has seen the guy in action and he kills!

Kings Point-Delray Beach allows non-residents to purchase tickets to its shows. Tickets are available at kingspointdelray.com.

Just so you know, 5 minutes ago I picked up 2 tickets online -and there were still a handful of really good seats left. I”m telling you- the guy will have you pissing your pants- Let’s leave it at that!

By the way, Norris is also scheduled to play Century Village/Pembroke Pines on 1/3/15, Century Village/Boca Raton on 1/6/15, Century Village/West Palm Beach on 1/7/15. Norris is co-headlining those shows with Joe Starr- another terrific “clean” comedian…Ticket sales are limited to Century Village residents “ONLY”…

OK, so there is this guy who lives in Brick. He’s an actor recently seen in the film “Not Fade Away”. He has played a police officer on TV and many other roles during his as yet unheralded career. Perhaps the best role he has been given is that of Comedy Fundraising Machine. Jeff Norris has entertained crowds with his classic impressions, his perfect comic timing and his genial nature that just makes you want to like him. In a world of manufactured comedians and artists, he is the real thing – working in the trenches of comedy performing wherever he goes. When you walk into a Jeff Norris show you may have bills, stress or sorrow on your plate. When you leave you take nothing with you but your hurting cheeks, the tears in your eyes from the constant barrage of stories and one-liners and a feeling that you have just seen something special. For a good evening of fun and laughter, make sure to mark your calendar for this one.

Snowbirds, Snowflakes, Others!

Real simple column for you guys…a reprint of Jeff Eats’ “Snowbirds’ 2014-2015 List!-that appeared on October 9, 2014.

Enjoy!

October 9, 2014
* Snowbirds’ 2014-2015 List!

Saw an interesting thing yesterday…4 tractor-trailers loaded with cars with license plates from New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania-unloading in Boca Raton. Just guessing here, but Jeff Eats is thinking that some of you snowbirds, snowflakes or whatever name you go by-are getting a really early jump this year.

With the above in mind, I trotted out -First Trimester- a “story” that Jeff Eats did on August 23, 2014 that gave you a list of joints that you might like to try-while down here in sunny South Florida. That First Trimester thing is reprinted below.

As an early welcoming gift, I’m throwing you another bunch of restaurants-that are worth checking out…

Just so we are straight, the Jeff Eats’ site has a ton of dynamite joints listed, so don’t let these two- sets of picks cloud or limit your thinking! By the way, there are full reviews on all of the named restaurants- which will give you more color…

Basilico’s Original Hand-Tossed Pizza/Italian/Wellington.
Genco Old World Italian Sandwiches/Subs-Salads/Lauderdale-by-the-Sea.
Thick & Thin Restaurant & Pizzeria/Italian/Boca Raton.
Tavolino Della Nonna/Italian/Coral Springs.
American Coffee Shop/Breakfast-Latin/Oakland Park.
I Love Tacos Restaurant & More/Mexican-fast food/Pembroke Pines and Weston.
Athena By The Sea/Breakfast-American-Greek/Lauderdale-by-the-Sea.
Time To Eat Diner/Breakfast-American/Tequesta.
Jack’s Hollywood Diner/Breakfast-American/Hollywood.
Shindig Irish Pub & Restaurant/Irish/Port Saint Lucie.
S&S Diner/Breakfast-American/Miami.
*****
* First Trimester!

Now I know- that it maybe a bit early for some of you “snowbirds” to be thinking about your upcoming trip-to Florida…but before you blink your eye, that trailer truck will be picking-up your car.

With that in mind, Jeff Eats “cooked up” (pun intended) a list of joints that you “should” checkout when you are down here. There are no rankings, there are no best this or that, just a good “handful” of restaurants that I think you will really enjoy. Name/Type/City-County are listed, you’ll have to look up full reviews/locations on Jeff Eats.

For you newcomers-to Jeff Eats…the site has a ton of joints for you to look-at…the ones listed today are right off the top of my head (this morning)…so cruse around jeffeats.com to get a feel for-where-my-head is and for other ideas/picks.
