* Andrew Dice Clay’s Autobiography.

Just finished reading- Andrew Dice Clay’s recently released (11/11/14) Autobiography -“The Filthy Truth” and I gotta tell you it’s a very interesting read.

For those of you who just landed from Mars, Andrew Dice Clay is one of America’s most famous-controversial comedians.

Whether you are pro-or-con on Dice, I seriously recommend that you give this book a read. A real fast paced telling-of the rise, fall and resurrection of a Brooklyn Jewish Kid in the entertainment industry.

Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats first met Dice on February 14, 1990 at the Concord Hotel in Kiamesha Lake, New York-we ate dinner with him, his fiance Trini, his body guard Kenny and Kenny’s wife and we were seated together in the Hotel’s showroom-on 2/14 and 2/15…and I must tell you, Andrew Dice Clay was one of the most pleasant and engaging “stars” that we have ever met. From that weekend to date, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats have been huge fans of this comic genius.

Like I said before, people either hate or love the guy…

Read the book (I got my copy on Amazon.com)-it will definitely give you some insight as to what makes the now 57 year old-Dice…tick!

* Jay & The American/Dennis Tufano/The Happenings.

This is gonna be a terrific oldies-show. No question in Jeff Eats mind, SRO!

A drop of “history”…my brother-in-law Chuck was The Happenings’ original- manager . Chuck’s the guy that brought the group to- The Tokens who produced The Happenings’ 1966 breakout hit “See You In September” By the way, original lead singer Bobby Miranda still fronts the group and- sounds just like he did back in ’66.

Jeff Eats learned a long time ago…

Minutes after you commit a “strong-arm” convenience store robbery…
1. The police are going to be looking for you.
2. When the police find you, there is no telling what next- is going to happen you.

A recent e-mail from Allison…

Jeff,
My husband and I recently (May) moved to Fort Lauderdale. Both of us come out of your old stumping grounds, Brooklyn, New York. We are both in our late 60s. We did make a 23 year stop in Westbury before permanently moving here. We found Jeff Eats purely by accident while searching for various restaurants on the internet. Your reviews pop up all over the place that we couldn’t resist seeing what you had to say. By the way a number of restaurants use your reviews on their websites. Of the five restaurants that we have tried so far, we found that your taste and ours are pretty similar. The ones we thought were perfect were Franco & Vinny’s, Villa Rose, La Veranda and Rainbow Palace. We didn’t think too much of Burger & Suds. Got a request, what’s a really good NYC kosher style deli in the East Fort Lauderdale area? We’ve eaten in a number of bagel joints but we are really looking for terrific food not bagel store level quality. I know that you can appreciate what I’m looking for here.

Allison:

Checkout Jeff Eats’–6/18/08 Pomperdale New York Style Deli story reprinted below.

The Pomperdale New York Style Deli has been around since 1969…I’m thinking- that you and the Mister will really enjoy this order-at-the-counter joint.

Thanks for reading…

The Pomperdale Deli has been in business for nearly 40 years. I found this joint about 16 years ago and have probably eaten lunch there ar least 50 times.

If you like good…no make that great deli and appetizing…then this joint is for you. No waiters…order at the counter…No checks, just tell the guy at the register what you had.

This is probably the best “kosher style” deli in South Florida. As a matter of fact, it may very well be the best deli in Florida. The food is absolutely terrific. This joint is open 7 days a week…Monday-Saturday 6am-5pm and Sunday 6am-3pm.

Don’t miss this joint…it is a one of a kind.

* Hotel Tonight.

Got something great-for you guys…Hotel Tonight (hoteltonight.com).

Now, try and follow Jeff Eats, Hotel Tonight is a MOBILE ONLY servuce…

Hotels- basically list their excess room inventory “at the last minute” on Hotel Tonight

Hotel Tonight describes itself as…”The world is going mobile, and there’s a growing demand for always-on tools that provide immediate satisfaction. While web distribution makes perfect sense for guests researching vacations well in advance, HotelTonight’s all-mobile platform allows you to reach the increasing number of guests who are choosing to be more spontaneous about their decisions. Because we’re mobile only, the rates you load are exclusively available on our app – not online or anywhere else. No one can search for your hotel or predict which hotels will be on display. Your offer is protected – we deliver only truly incremental guests you wouldn’t have otherwise attracted.”

Rather than listening to computer/tech illiterate Jeff Eats babble on…go to Hotel Tonight’s site for info…I do know that you’ll need to download its “app” to use its free service.

All I can tell you, is that the room rates that it lists are amazingly-reasonable!

***** Crazy Wok, 5764 Wiles Road, Coral Springs, Florida 33067, (954) 255-1866.

Crazy Wok is a Chinese takeout joint. There are 2- locations, 1-in Coral Springs, 1-in Fort Lauderdale (2392 North Federal Highway)- this “story” is about the Coral Springs’ location.

Real simple story…

Last Saturday night, Jeff Eats was over-by my friend Peter’s house watching football…we ordered some Chinese stuff from Crazy Wok. We picked-up the food and Peter caught the bill…hey! it’s his house…you eat by me, I pickup the bill!

To make a long story short, we did wonton soup, egg rolls, boneless spare ribs, pan fried dumplings, General Tsao’s chicken, moo shu beef, roast pork fried rice…and I gotta tell you, the food was right on the money. Now you know and Jeff Eats knows that this food-reviewing gig is purely a subjective game. What I like you might hate and vice versa. You also do know, that what I might find sweet, you may find bitter-so forth and so on. That’s why, I very rarely kill time, telling you-what something tastes like! Suffice it to say, (as they say in internet land— imho) Crazy Wok turned out some really delicious “American” Chinese food. For those of you-looking for “real” or shall I say “authentic” Chinese food-like West Lake Fish in Vinegar Sauce (yeah-I know it sounds absolutely amazing!) you can cross Crazy Wok off-your list.

Finally…good free food, good company and a win by my University of Arizona Wildcats…made for a very pleasant evening.

One last thought, some of you guys may be wondering…If Jeff Eats went to Ithaca College and Brooklyn Law School and Mrs. Jeff Eats went to Brooklyn College…then how does the U of A work its way into the conversation? Easy, Son Jeff Eats went to U of A and Daughter Jeff Eats went to University of Connecticut- thus the RELATIONSHIPS…very expensive RELATIONSHIPS but RELATIONSHIPS nonetheless! Now that I look back, why these two scholars couldn’t- go to school in-state, is beyond Jeff Eats’ comprehension- we’ll save that discussion for another day…

If you live or work in Crazy Wok’s neighborhood…you now know about a real-good Chinese takeout joint.

You can check menu/prices at crazywok.com. The site has a handful of discount coupons that you can print out.

Crazy Wok is open 7 days a week 10am-11pm.

***** Cristino’s Coal Oven Pizza, 1101 South Fort Harrison Avenue, Clearwater, Florida 33756, (727) 443-4900.

Got an absolutely terrific coal-oven pizza joint for you, Cristino’s Coal Oven Pizza in Clearwater. Just so you know, Cristino’s has a second location in Tampa–the one under “discussion” is in Clearwater.

First things first, Jeff Eats loved Cristino’s…real casual with both indoor/covered outside patio seating…reasonable prices, super pleasant service.

In addition to the “expected” coal-fired pizzas/wings and salads-the joint has the full boat of- Southern Italian appetizers, pastas, paninis, entrees, desserts.

You can check Cristino’s menu/prices at cristinospizzeria.com.

A recent dinner had Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats and another couple- “doing” eggplant rollatini ($7.99), caprese salad ($6.99), chicken parmigiana Panini ($8.50), 16″ margherita pizza ($12.99), lasagna/meat sauce ($10.99), coal oven wings (10-$7.99), lemon Italian ice (small-$3.79) and I gotta tell you, I didn’t hear even one- itsy bitzy teenie weenie complaint during the meal. Trust me with this one, everything was dynamite.

Really not too much to tell you…other than Cristino’s was terrific- and that the joint is open Monday-Thursday 11am-9:30pm, Friday-Saturday 11am-10:30pm, Sunday 11:30am-9:30pm.
