***** The Crust Pizza, 875 Vanderbilt Beach Road, Naples, Florida 34108, (239) 244-8488.

Got an absolutely terrific pizza joint for you guys…The Crust!

Real simple concept- tons of pizzas, handful of subs, handful of salads…handful of beers/wines- inside/outside seating. If you’re in the mood for veal parm, chicken marsala, fried calamari- so on and so forth, be smart and ditch the mood, because like I just said, pizzas, subs and salads!

Trust Jeff Eats on this one, an absolute homerun!

A recent dinner- 16″ super thin/crisp pepperoni pizza, lightly toasted meatball sub, wedge salad, all right on the money! Throw in a dynamite decor, super pleasant service and real-reasonable prices- and you got…

Jeff Eats loving The Crust.

You can check menu/prices/info at thecrustpizza.net.

The Crust is open Sunday-Thursday 11am-9pm, Friday-Saturday 11am-10pm.

Jeff Eats loves… this hole in the wall-takeout only-cash only Italian joint’s pizza.

No ifs ands or buts, Grandpa’s “slice” could make it Brooklyn or for that matter The Bronx!

Here’s the original writeup…don’t forget it’s cash only!

Got something real-good for you Bonita Springs-folks…

Grandpa’s Pizza & Pasta…a hole in the wall that makes delicious pizzas, pastas, salads, strombolis/calzones, subs. This is a cash-only affair (there’s an ATM in the store) and don’t plan on eating there, because it’s takeout only.

The other day, Jeff Eats and a couple of buddies were in Bonita Springs to checkout some “musical acts” at The Stage (see review 8/28/11) and heard about Grandpa’s from some locals…

No fooling around here…one of the best New York Style pizzas I’ve had in a very long time…same for the ricotta/mozzarella/ham calzone, meat lasagna and chicken parm sub.

You can check Grandpa’s menu/prices at www.grandpaspizza.net.

From what I understand, Grandpa’s has been around for something like 34 years…so I’m thinking that I’m not so crazy on how good I think the food was.

Grandpa’s Pizza & Pasta is open Monday-Saturday 11am-9:30pm, closed on Sunday

What more can we say about the funky, fabulous Morris Day? Morris Day and The Time have made music since the 1970’s, when Day got his musical chops in his first project with band member Prince. He later acted in Prince’s musical drama, Purple Rain.

The Time was formed from a larger band called “Flyte Tyme” and is noted for hip anthems such as “Jungle Love” and “The Bird.” The founding members reunited for a performance with Rihanna at the 50th annual Grammy Awards Show. In February of this year, Jimmy Kimmel Live featured the band as part of the #MashUpMonday series, forming a supergroup with Grammy-nominated trio HAIM. The result? “Morris Day and The HAIM”…and pure magic.

Cameo has been spitting top-notch dance tracks for 40 years of funk! Larry Blackmon, band leader and drummer of Cameo, is an accomplished musician and producer. He has spent his career producing chart-topping artists such as Bobby Brown, Chaka Kahn and Red Hot Chili Peppers. The band itself is a pacemaker and its unique style will continue to inspire musicians today and tomorrow.

Mastino Wood Fired Italian Kitchen & Bar (Delray Beach)

mastinopizza2mastino3usepizzx

***** Mastino Wood Fired Italian Kitchen & Bar, 25 Northeast 2nd Avenue, Delray Beach, Florida 33444, (561) 921-8687.

Got something absolutely terrific for you guys, 6 month old Mastino Wood Fired Italian Kitchen & Bar in Delray Beach.

Real simple tale,

Last night Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats ate dinner at Mastino and I gotta tell you that this joint absolutely killed it!

The Neapolitan wood fired 12″ margherita ($14) and 12″ five cheese ($16) pizzas that we ordered were dynamite. No ifs ands or buts-the pies were two of the best pizzas that we’ve had since this Jeff Eats’ gig began back in 2006. Throw in a terrific-Mediterranean salad ($8.50), a dynamite eggplant stack ($12.50) and a killer meatball in tomato sauce with ricotta cheese ($8.50) and Mastino which seats something like- 100 inside/30 outside is a homerun in Jeff Eats’ book!…by the way, for you drinkers out there-full bar area and loads of flat screen tvs. For the non-pizza eaters, Mastino’s got plenty of salads, panini sandwiches, roasted wings and other Italian stuff- so you won’t starve or nothing!

Now- you know and I know that pizza and for that matter everything-in-life is a subjective call..in other words- what Jeff Eats may love you may hate…

With the above in mind, Jeff Eats is telling you- that anyone who doesn’t- like Mastino’s thin/crisp pizza- doesn’t know dick, about pizza!- subjective or no subjective!

Just between you and me, Mastino which is located in Delray’s- Pineapple Grove section isn’t in the best retail-spot…no Amerigo Vespucci here, but I’m thinking that the 179 feet or so that Mastino is off-the main Atlantic Avenue-drag- really hurts its draw…like I said above, the joint has only been around for something like 6 months- so word of mouth is gonna make or break this one!

Let me wrap this up for you,

Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats really enjoyed Mastino…trust me when I tell you, that everything the joint served-up was outstandingly good! By the way, very pleasant service and Mastino’s prices worked- but I did think that the 12″ 5 cheese pizza at 16 bucks pushed its luck just- a bit!

You can check menu/prices/info at mastinowoodfire.com.

Mastino Wood Fired Italian Kitchen Bar is open Sunday 11am-10pm, Tuesday-Wednesday 5pm-10pm, Thursday 5pm-11pm, Friday-Saturday 11am-2am, closed Monday.

* Delray Marketplace Music Fest.

Well! At least the Delray Marketplace (9025 West Atlantic Avenue- delraymarket.com- (561) 865-4613) is trying- to draw some people for its retail tenants!

Here’s the center’s list of FREE CONCERTS scheduled for May, 2015.

Look! Jeff Eats isn’t trying to be a ball-buster here, but IF you are looking to draw people- you gotta at-least-kinda-know what you are doing…

To whoever (whomever?) is doing the Music Booking…you don’t book a TOM PETTY tribute band for the crowd that “lives” in the center’s 5 mile radius…

Your crowd is predominantly RETIREES…trust Jeff Eats- 60s+ got no idea of who the hell Tom Petty is! Don’t believe me, walk around the center- and just ask the people to name 2, actually make that 1- hit that Tom Petty had…you’ll see that Jeff Eats is right!

April 24th, 2012 · American Breakfast Fast Food Fort Lauderdale Subs/Salads

***** Mr. Nick’s Sub Shoppe, 901 South Andrews Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33316, (954) 462-1913.

Got a real good sub-joint for you, Mr. Nick’s Sub Shoppe in Fort Lauderdale. Freestanding building, order/pickup at window–tables outside under a canopy…not exactly the fanciest joint going. You can check menu/prices at www.mrnickssubshoppe.com. Mr. Nick’s is open Monday-Friday 8:30am-6pm, Saturday 9:30am-3pm, closed on Sunday.

Like I said a few seconds ago, this is a “real good” sub joint…

Mr. Nick’s has all kinds of hot/cold subs (6″ & 12″), sandwiches, burgers, franks, salads.

For the record, Jeff Eats forced himself to “try”–philly cheesesteak sub, chicken parm sub, chicken salad sub–now trust me here, the subs were all delicious, with a special shoutout to the philly cheesesteak which came with cheese-mushrooms-grilled onions-green peppers. Now I know-we could debate sub/hoagie bread here all day long…some of you guys like hard crust and some of you guys like a real soft outside— as for “me” I like it both ways–just as long as it tastes good. For the record, Mr. Nick’s goes with a delicious soft sub.

By the way, did you hear about the guy who ordered a turkey sandwich at a lunch counter. The waitress told him that they were out of turkey, so he ordered a chicken sandwich. The waitress replied, if we had chicken I would have brought you a turkey sandwich.

Anyway…If you’re like me and enjoy eating a sub under a roadside canopy…Mr. Nick’s Sub Shoppe is for you.
