***** Wagons West Restaurant, 11301 South Dixie Highway, Pinecrest, Florida 33156 (305) 238-9942.

First told you guys about Wagons West Restaurant way-back on 11/17/08…

To be straight with you guys, until yesterday-Jeff Eats hadn’t been back since that “story” first appeared. Let’s call Wagons West an “out of sight, out of mind” joint!

Long story short, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats ate lunch there yesterday…

Jeff Eats did a bacon cheeseburger with french fries- Mrs. Eats did a tuna salad on rye toast with french fries- order of onion rings for the table…Absolutely perfect diner food! For what it’s worth, Wagons West Restaurant reminds me- of the neighborhood Brooklyn diners (like George’s Restaurant) that I grew up on in the 50s & 60s

Real simple, if you’re like Jeff Eats-that being a gigantic fan of “mom & pop” neighborhood diners- you will love Wagons West Restaurant.

I am going to guess that Wagons West has been in business for something like a 1,000 years…This is an absolutely terrific joint if “diners” are your game. Wagons West has counter and booth seating and has a menu loaded with all kinds of breakfast items, soups, salads, appetizers, sandwiches, burgers, chilis, meat/fish/chicken entees and desserts. Nothing fancy here…good solid food, large portions, reasonable prices, very pleasant wait-service. A couple of grilled pork chops with a potato and vegetable goes for $10.95 and a bacon cheeseburger with french fries runs $7.45. If I counted right, the joint has 17 different omelettes for consumption.

I love joints like Wagons West…which is open Monday-Saturday 6:30am-9pm and Sunday 6:30am-4pm.

* Lefty Or Righty? Burger & Fries or Fries & Burger?

Jeff Eats is a Righty…

Just curious, shouldn’t the burger be on the left and the fries on the right?… and-yes! I know that the fries should be drenched in ketchup!

Do Lefties and Righties “see” this differently?

Just between you guys and Jeff Eats, Chinese Guy is definitely one of the best Chinese joints that I’ve been to-down here in South Florida. Look! You know and I know, that “food reviewing” is purely a subjective call- you know the drill…what I like you, you might not like- and vice versa! So with that in mind, I gotta tell you that Chinese Guy’s- wonton soup, bbq ribs, pork fried rice, sesame chicken, pepper steak, pan fried dumplings, shrimp with mixed vegetables were delicious!

* Win 4 Tickets/4 Large Popcorns/4 Large Fountain Drinks -Cinemark Palace 20 (Boca Raton).

Real easy tale to tell…

Back in June- Jeff Eats wasn’t shall-we-say… too happy with The Premier at Cinemark Palace in Boca Raton.

Down below, is a 6/16/15- “story” Jeff Eats did on that outing…

Anyway,

After that “story” appeared, that same day Cinemark- reached out to Jeff Eats- and as “part” of a-conversation I had with the theaters’ GM… Jeff Eats now has 4- Adult General Admission Tickets that I want one of you guys to have…by the way, each ticket comes with a large popcorn and a large fountain drink!

Just be the 10th reader to post a COMMENT and the 4-tickets (which by the way have no expiration date)- are yours. One “comment” a day per reader, is the only real rule…

The “contest” ends…when that 10th Comment is received!

The Premier at Cinemark Palace 20 (Boca Raton)
Posted on June 16th, 2015 · Boca Raton Music/Events/Other

* The Premier at Cinemark Palace, 3200 Airport Road, Boca Raton, Florida 33431.

The other night Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats, Daughter Jeff Eats and Son Jeff Eats caught “Entourage” at The Premier at Cinemark Palace 20 in Boca Raton.

Apparently having money to burn, Daughter Jeff Eats and Son Jeff Eats bought 4-tickets for a showing in The Premier at Cinemark- rather than buying regular tickets…

Just so you guys know, The Premier at Cinemark is a 15 year-old operation…suffice it to say it is RUN-DOWN, DATED and the night Jeff Eats was there had dirty ladies/mens bathrooms and a theater that was dirty with sticky cup holders/arm rests. The reason for the rant in this case, Cinemark has some nerve up-charging for theaters that are anything but Premier.

Just so you know, Jeff Eats via e-mail relayed the “above” comments to Cinemark’s corporate offices- and within 24 hours-received a call from Cinemark’s General Manger. Very pleasant guy, who said that he would immediately address the cleanliness issues-but conceded that the facility -is 15 years old- so forth and so on! Following that phone call, the GM sent Jeff Eats the following e-mail… “It was great talking with you this morning. Thank you again for your time and input. I have already shared your thoughts with my supervisor and will address the restroom issues with my managers.”

All I can say is that- I understand wear & tear, but when you got a 2000 Cadillac don’t advertise it as if it were a 2015 Cadillac and surely don’t charge to “lease it” as if were a brand new vehicle. In addition, what did Jeff Eats get out of this whole “thing”?- Nothing- other than a column about another large company that probably doesn’t give a rat’s ass about you!

Cinemark is a huge national theater owner/operator…surely it can hire General Mangers who in addition to promising to look into things- are smart enough to say to the complaining customer “Hey, when would you and your family like to come-in for another movie?” This GM didn’t do that and Jeff Eats is thinking-that just maybe Cinemark’s HR Department might want to institute new training protocols on how to handle customers, not to mention how to keep theaters clean! As for updating facilities, guaranteed “no updates” eventually =s “no customers.”

To wrap it up,

Cinemark in Boca Raton (it was formerly known as Muvico) use to be top-shelf…operative words here “use to be.”

***** NYY Steak, (Seminole Casino Coconut Creek) 5550 Northwest 40th Street, Coconut Creek, Florida 33073, (954) 997-6700.

Way-back on 2/15/12 Jeff Eats told you guys about NYY Steak located in the Seminole Casino Creek Coconut Creek- in Coconut Creek. That “review” is down-below…

Long story short, since that “review” was published, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats have eaten in NYY something like 5-times, with the latest “outing”- being last night. For what it’s worth, all of the meals that Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats have had, were all right on the money!

Last night, I got to thinking that Jeff Eats rarely if ever hears- NYY Steak mentioned in conversations about South Florida’s best steak-joints. No ifs, ands or buts- the 26oz bone-in-ribeye with grilled onions and French fries- that I had last night and didn’t come close to finishing- could easily be matched against the best of breed down here in sunny South Florida-same story for Mrs. Jeff Eats’ pan seared snapper!

Anyway,

Jeff Eats just wanted to mention NYY Steak to you guys, again…

It’s a very good steak joint!

***** NYY Steak, (Seminole Casino Coconut Creek) 5550 Northwest 40th Street, Coconut Creek, Florida 33073, (954) 997-6700.

Go figure!

One of the best-“upscale steakhouses” in South Florida is located at the Seminole Casino Coconut Creek in- Coconut Creek…That’s right, the casino where you-gotta wear an oxygen mask because the cigarette smoke is so brutal—as part of a recently completed $150,000,000 renovation/expansion has opened an absolutely georgeous looking steakhouse with fabulous food and service. You can check www.seminolecoconutcreekcasino.com for menu/prices/photos. By the way, NYY is a joint venture–Seminole Indians/New York Yankees (there is another NYY at Yankee Stadium).

NYY…New York Yankees, get it? All kinds, of New York Yankee black/white photos, autographs…no dark wood–or dim lights here…but rather, a great looking open kitchen, light oak woods, bright lights, plenty of glass. Like I said before, an absolutely gorgeous looking joint.

When you check NYY’s menu, try not to get sticker-shock…no question about it- that $51.75 24oz bone in ribeye is “high” even for an upscale steakhouse–Now, I maybe going out on a limb here, but I think- that casino-joints like NYY get a ton of customers using their casino “PLAYER’S CLUB” rewards/points to pay the bill. If I’m right—the restaurant can charge more than what most folks would consider “normal”- because many customers aren’t using real-money. So, if you go there, I think you will find that many of the “diners” are eating on-the-arm.

At this juncture of the discussion, let me tell you that NYY looks totally out of place at the Seminole Casino. Nothing for nothing, but the Seminole Casino isn’t in this boy’s opinion–an upscale looking property. Now, there may-be something more developing at the Seminole Casino that’s gonna get it looking more like the Hard Rock operation in Hollywood-so NYY may eventually make sense, but for right now, NYY looks like a fish out of water. Personally, I don’t see non-casino players making special plans/reservations to eat at NYY, despite the fact that its food is absolutely dynamite.

A recent dinner had me “doing” the aforementioned 24oz ribeye, 28oz porterhouse ($54.75), veal chop milanase ($44.50), roast chicken ($28.50), lemon pepper halibut ($31.50), steak fries ($9.50), lobster mac & cheese ($11). Every item was delicious. On the service front, excellent without the “snotty” know-it-all attitude you find at many upscale steakhouses.

There are two ways to play NYY Steak. You can gamble your heart out…and accumulate points to spend or you can just fork over cash or your credit card at the end of the meal.

NYY Steak is a homerun…pun intended!

NYY Steak is open Monday, Thursday-Sunday 5pm-11pm. The joint is closed on Tuesday and Wednesday.

If- like Jeff Eats you are a fan of the “mom & pop” diner-concept- I got an absolutely terrific diner for you…Doc’s Diner in Key Largo. By the way, I first told you guys about Doc’s way-back on 6/18/12- but somethings really do-bear repeating!

No reason to spin you guys a detailed tale…tons of breakfast stuff, burgers, salads, sandwiches, salads, entrees, desserts. Counter/table-booth seating, open 7 days a week 6am-2pm.

A recent breakfast outing had Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats doing…banana pancakes and strawberry French toast- and I must-say- both were off the hook! Throw in super pleasant service, reasonable prices (which you can check at docsdinerkeylargo.com) and you got a dynamite joint for breakfast and lunch.

Jeff Eats loved Doc’s- and unless there is something seriously wrong with you- you will too!

* Peter, Paul and Mary.

I’m gonna let you in on a little secret…I have been in love with Mary Travers since 1962.

This morning, South Florida’s public tv stations (PBS)- started airing the 2 hour documentary “50 Years With Peter, Paul and Mary”- unquestionably, one of America’s greatest singing groups. Three phenomenal lead singers- some of the most gorgeous harmonies- that this boy has ever-ever heard.

Jeff Eats could care less-as to how old you are-this documentary is a must see… It’s the story of 60’s AMERICA- the Civil Rights Movement, the Vietnam War…50 years -fighting for the underdog.

Like I said before, I’ve been in love with Mary since I was 13- unfortunately she passed in 2009 but luckily for me, I got to see Peter, Paul and Mary-live three times and personally met them in 1998.

Printed below is an article that appeared yesterday in Forbes Magazine (Forbes.com) “describing” the documentary,

Please, do yourself a big favor and don’t miss it…when you see the program I think you’ll know why I have loved Mary for over 50 years.

50 Years Of Peter, Paul And Mary Celebrated With New Documentary, Album And Book
Comment Now Follow Comments

The artistic legacy of the folk trio Peter, Paul and Mary is being celebrated in a new PBS documentary, “50 Years With Peter, Paul and Mary,” premiering tomorrow night, December 1.

Their collaboration is also the subject of a new coffee-table book, Peter, Paul and Mary: 50 Years in Life and Song, published earlier this month. And a new album of their music, Discovered: Live in Concert, was also released earlier this month.

Made up of Peter Yarrow, Noel Paul Stookey and Mary Travers, who died in 2009, the trio began performing at clubs in New York in 1961 and released its first album in 1962. With hits including “Blowin’ in the Wind,” “If I Had a Hammer” and “Leaving on a Jet Plane,” it was popular and politically active in the 1960’s, but disbanded in 1970. It reunited in 1978 at a benefit opposing nuclear power, and toured after that, often performing in support of political causes.

The new book uses photographs and writings by all three members of the trio to tell its inside story, while music on the new album is, with one exception, all tracks that have not been released before.

The new documentary features rare and previously unseen television footage, including footage from a BBC program from the early 1960’s and footage from Travers’ memorial, which was held at Riverside Church in New York in September 2009; attended by former Sen. George S. McGovern, singers Pete Seeger and Judy Collins, and comedian Whoopi Goldberg, among others; and addressed by then Sen. John Kerry.

Interviewed last week, Yarrow said the documentary was unlike other television programs the trio had done, since it is not a concert, though “there’s a lot of music in it.”

He said the public “had never seen people talk about us, our children talk about us.”

“It’s startling to see how amazingly beautiful and charismatic Mary was in those years, not on YouTube,” he added.
