***** Nino’s Pizza, 204 North Miami Avenue, Miami, Florida 33128, (305) 374-6900.

Got an absolutely terrific pizza joint for you guys, Nino’s Pizza in Miami.

Nino’s is an absolute “hole-in-the-wall”- maybe a half-dozen counter seats and half-dozen 2 seat hi-top tables.

image

image

In addition to pizza, the joint has hot/cold subs, sandwiches, wraps, burgers, pastas/entrees. You can check ninospizzamiami.com for menu/prices.

Just in case you’re curious on the décor, think neighborhood diner- meets- neighborhood pizza joint featuring classic rock posters/pictures & Italian gangster posters/pictures. Not exactly sure what Jimi Hendrix has to do with Vito Corleone- but it’s all good!

image

A recent Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats lunch netted us…2 slices of cheese/pepperoni pizza, meatball parmigiana sub and I gotta tell you, the food absolutely killed! Jeff Eats isn’t sure what you guys consider a New York Slice to be, but I’m telling you- that Nino’s thin crispy crust/sweet sauce/nice fold-drop of oil when pointed down slice was right on the money as far as this Brooklyn Boy is concerned! The meatball sub- hard outside/soft inside roll-with amazing meatballs was absolute dynamite!

image

Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats loved Nino’s Pizza. For our purposes, I’m gonna rate this joint an absolute must try…the décor, the vibe, the food- like I said- Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats loved Nino’s Pizza!

Nino’s Pizza is open Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm, closed Saturday and Sunday.

* The Pot Calling The Kettle Black!

Just finished reading a story on aol.com- about former NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg “slamming” various Republican Presidential Candidates- calling them crazies!

Isn’t Bloomberg the same guy- who just a few years ago- tried to pass a law in NYC that limited the size of CUPS in-order- to regulate the consumption of sugary beverages?

Sure he was!

Talk about The Pot Calling The Kettle Black!.

***** Time For New York City’s Mayor Bloomberg To Retire *****

Do a quick Google-Search… you’ll find a ton of stories about Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s latest “idea” to pass a NYC law that prohibits the sale of sugary soft drinks in containers larger than 16 ounces. For the sake of fairness- there are “various” exceptions built into the proposed law which is intended to help fight obesity.

Is Bloomberg nuts or what?

I don’t know about you, but Jeff Eats is perfectly capable of deciding for himself how much Coca Cola or Pepsi or Sunkist Orange Soda I can “handle” at any given time.

Talk about the Government “getting” into your daily life. The next thing you know this guy Bloomberg will be looking to limit NYC residents to only 6 Lay’s Potato Chips a day and require them to take 10-minute showers/4-times a day.

No question in my mind…time for Bloomberg to call it a day–and retire to one of those 11 homes that he owns.

****

March 11, 2013 UPDATE

Since Jeff Eats first “tackled” this one, New York City passed a law regulating bottle size. The law was set to go into effect tomorrow morning. This morning a New York State Supreme Court Judge declared the law illegal and stopped the implementation.

TURNER:

Assuming that you aren’t gonna pull a Michael-Captain McCluskey-Sollozzo “scene”on me…

Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats and Family- are “eating” at Matteo’s Restaurant in Boca Raton at 7pm. Nothing like good solid-Pilgrim food!-fried zucchini, penne ala vodka, chicken cacciatore, baked clams, linguine in white clam sauce, broiled pork chops, veal marsala- to help us remember Plymouth Rock and Tippecanoe & Tyler Too!

Just so you know, Matteo’s in Boca Raton is one of “our” favorite Italian joints in Florida. Matteo’s food kills and its service is about as good as it gets. If you wanna “see” what a top-shelf restaurant is suppose to be- you eat at Matteo’s in Boca Raton. By the way, “we” also-really enjoy Matteo’s Hallandale location, same great food and service- but Boca Raton is- the Eats’ neighborhood so the Boca Raton joint- is an easier and more convenient outing for us!

Happy Holiday to you and your family.

Certain things in life bear repeating…

Matteo’s with locations in Boca Raton, Hallandale is one of the best Italian restaurants in South Florida.

If you check…Back on March 19, 2008, I did a writeup on Matteo’s. I absolutely love this joint.You can check Matteo’s menu/prices at www.matteosristorante.com.

Matteo’s has 2 South Florida locations…Boca Raton, Hallandale…on average, I am probably in either the Boca or Hallandale joints at least once a month.

Matteo’s food is delicious. Matteo’s service is outstanding. Matteo’s prices are not-exactly “cheap,” but if you’re sensible when ordering, you won’t need a second job to pay the bill…Matteo’s features both family-style and individual portions. Matteo’s is a “white-tablecloth” joint, but your tee shirt/shorts ensemble will work.

Matteo’s started out as a Long Island joint…check the website for NY locations etc…Not exactly sure when its first S. Florida location (Boca Raton) opened, but from day-one Matteo’s has been a “homerun”…its enormous NY following, translated into an enormous South Florida following.

Look…I could go on and on about this joint…

I am telling you, that if you want terrific Italian food, served by a professional staff…with a management team that makes you feel like you are family…then you want to absolutely positively eat at Matteo’s.

You now know “again” about a sensational Italian joint that is not to be missed.

To All The Parents Out There With Grown Children:

A father in Dallas calls his son in New York just before Thanksgiving and tells him, ‘I am sorry to tell you but your mother and I are getting divorced. I just cannot take any more of her moaning. We can’t stand the sight of each other any more. I called you first because you’re the eldest, please tell your sister.’

When Eddie calls his sister Julie who lives in Los Angeles, she says: ‘No way are they getting divorced, I’ll fly home and see them for Thanksgiving.’

Julie phones her parents and tells them both ‘You can’t get divorced. Promise me that you won’t do anything until I get there. I’m calling Eddie and we’ll both fly home and see you tomorrow. Until then, don’t take any action, please listen to me’ and hangs up.

The father puts down the phone and turns to his wife and says. ‘Good news Eddie and Julie are coming for Thanksgiving and both are paying their own way.’

Real simple tale, Sonny’s Famous Steak Hogies is what Jeff Eats calls an “out of sight, out of mind” joint.

First told you guys about Sonny’s Famous Steak Hogies on May 30, 2013- hadn’t been back until yesterday when Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats did lunch- the 2-steak and 1-meatball hogies killed!

This Sonny’s joint is an absolute must try.

All I know, if Sonny’s was closer to my Boca Raton neighborhood, Jeff Eats would be a REAL GOOD STEADY CUSTOMER!

Last Sunday night, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats were at the Hard Rock to see The Rascals in concert. Sitting next to us, were Lynee and Lou Cantor the owners of the “32 East” restaurant in Delray Beach…chit chat, chit chat—and Lou tells me, that if I want to eat great steak subs..then, I gotta try Sonny’s Famous Steak Hogies in Hollywood. Real fast, The Rascals killed it, absolutely fabulous concert…and plans are being set for Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats to check-out 32 East, which if the reviews in Yelp, TripAdvisor, OpenTable and various newspapers, magazines and publications are legit– is a terrific American Style joint (by the way, last night- Jeff Eats’ pal Eben–raved about 32 East’s hamburger, but then again Eben thinks that Ted Williams was better than Joe D. so his opinion maybe suspect-here).

To make a long story short…Lou really knows his stuff.

Jeff Eats got down to Sonny’s yesterday and “tried”– steak hogie, chicken parm hogie, tuna salad hogie, meatball hogie…and I gotta to tell you, this joint’s subs aren’t just good, they are amazing-good…right up there with the best that I’ve ever eaten…and you guys know that Jeff Eats has “done” his fair share of subs. Point of interest, Sonny’s bread is baked fresh every day—it alone is worth the trip…and we’re just talking about a sub roll here!

Just a drop of color…

Sonny’s has been in the same location since 1958. In addition to hot/cold subs, its got salads, pastas, pizzas—there is waitstaff service. Back in 2009, Guy Fieri did his tv show Diner, Drive-Ins & Dives there…so, this isn’t a hidden jewel discovered by Jeff Eats…yesterday at 1pm Sonny’s was jammed.

Just so we are straight, this guy-Guy Fieri as far as Jeff Eats is concerned, isn’t the be -all and end -all when it comes to knowing what great joint- food is all about. Nothing for nothing, but I honestly believe that huge-tv money/and other factors that have absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with food- “slant” Fiere’s opinions. Take this for what it’s worth…Jeff Eats has been to a number of Fieri’s “picks” and much of the food that he raved about was mediocre at best…While I’m on the “subject”–Jeff Eats for years has questioned the various “reviews” that appear in South Florida’s newspapers and other publications. You guys are smart enough to know, that you gotta-check joints out for yourselves. On the most basic level, what Jeff Eats likes, you may not like and vice versa.

Anyway- Guy made a good call on Sonny’s in that- its subs are definitely dynamite.

Real simple…whether you call them subs, hoagies, grinders or whatever your regional preference is—you will absolutely love and I do mean L O V E Sonny’s Famous Steak Hogies…and no, Jeff Eats didn’t -spell hoagies wrong, that’s what Sonny’s calls the sandwiches.

You can check menu/prices/video of Guy Fieri at www.sonnysfamoussteakhogies.com.

The joint is open Monday-Saturday 11:30am-9:30pm, Sunday 11:30am-8:30pm.

Finally…Jeff Eats always says, a solid given deserves a solid in return…or something like that–anyway, since Lou gave me the heads up on Sonny’s–why don’t you guys check-out 32 East at www.32east.com and “see” if it’s a joint that might be of interest to you…solid returned

***** Spadini’s Pizzeria, 1645 Southeast 3rd Court- Suite 103, Deerfield Beach Florida 33441, (954) 482-0436

Here’s a heads-up for you guys…

Spadini’s Pizzeria literally just opened (like 2 days ago) in the Cove Shopping Center in Deerfield Beach.

Long story short, Spadini’s use to be in Boca Raton. Not sure of the details but a “falling-out” with its Boca Raton landlord- resulted in Spadini’s closing its Boca Raton location a few months ago- and moving/building a new pizza joint in Deerfield Beach.

Like I just said, the joint just opened- Jeff Eats hasn’t been there yet! I’m hearing both inside and outside table seating- real-real casual!

I’m thinking that the NEW location is gonna be as good as the OLD location, so I’m thinking that you definitely want to try Spadini’s!

Some of Jeff Eats’ Spadini’s (Boca Raton) write-ups are printed down below.

Trust Jeff Eats when I tell you, unless something very seriously goes wrong (which I seriously doubt)- the NEW- Spadini’s is gonna be serving up some of the best pizzas, pastas, subs, salads and other Italian stuff that you’ve eaten down here in Florida!

Jeff Eats got plans to checkout Spadini’s sometime during the next two weeks, so I’ll report back to you guys!

Not trying to be repetitious or nothing, but do yourself a solid and try this joint- its food is (or should I say, should be?) off the chart neighborhood Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, Manhattan, “The” Bronx delicious- and that’s no bs!

You can checkout Spadini’s menu/prices at spadinispizzeria.com.

Spadini’s Pizzeria is open Monday-Thursday 11am-10pm, Friday-Saturday 11am-2am, Sunday noon-8pm.

***** Spadini’s Pizzeria, 134 Northeast 2nd Avenue, Boca Raton, Florida 33432, (561) 826-7420.

A year ago today-Jeff Eats told you guys about Spadini’s Pizzeria a terrific pizza-joint which had just “opened” for business in Boca Raton.

One year later, Spadini’s is chugging along doing- both a huge takeout/eat-in business.

Over the past year, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats must have taken-out at least 15 times and each and every time- the pizza, subs, entrees were all right on the money.

Anyway,

Last night Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats decided to eat-at Spadini’s ordering- a 16″ cheese pizza (Wednesday Special -$8), an eggplant parmigiana entrée and a veal parmigiana hero. The eggplant and veal stuff were delicious–AND THE PIZZA WAS SIMPLY AMAZING. In talking with owner -Tom Sellick, he advised that a few weeks ago he had replaced his pizzas’ white flour with Japanese breadcrumbs and the pies/slices were getting rave customer reviews. Just so we are straight with one another- white flour, Japanese breadcrumbs “it’s all Rock n Roll to me”- all Jeff Eats can tell you, is that the pizza was awesome.

Let me wrap this up,

You guys gotta try Spadini’s Pizzeria. The subs, pastas, entrees are delicious AND THE PIZZA IS SIMPLY AMAZING!

Jeff Eats’ original 5/15/13 “review” is printed below.

***** Spadini’s Pizzeria (Boca Raton)

Early this morning, Jeff Eats told you guys about Spadini’s Pizzeria, 134 Northeast 2nd Avenue, Boca Raton, Florida 33432, (561) 826-7420. The jist of that “article” was that Jeff Eats had heard terrific things about this relatively -new pizza joint (it opened in February 2013) and had “plans” to give it a shot in the near future. That original article is down below.

To make a long story short…

Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats decided to take food out tonight.

Items ordered… chopped salad (large $9.50), 16″ plain pizza (Wednesday Night Special $8), chicken parmigiana hero ($9.95), sausage & peppers hero ($8.95), penne alla vodka ($11.95)…and I gotta tell you, everything we had was delicious. A special shoutout to the pizza—let’s just say, that Spadini’s knows how to make a real New York Slice—thin crust, delicious sweet sauce, great tasting mozzarella. By the way, the heroes were big enough to feed two people–and featured a really tasty-lightly toasted bread.

Spadini’s Pizzeria is an absolute “hole in the wall”—a few tables inside and even fewer outside. You order at the counter/you pickup at the counter.

Based on the food that Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats “had”—Spadini’s is right up there with the best “mom & pop” red sauce joints in sunny South Florida.

You can check menu/prices at www.spadinispizzeria.com.

Finally, Spadini’s has a whole bunch of “specials”—like $8- 16″ pizzas on Wednesday and buy 2 heroes and get 1 free on Monday…so “ASK” what “deals” are on the table-before you order…Capice!

*****

Nothing for nothing…

Jeff Eats is hearing amazingly-fabulous-incredible “things” about a relatively new Boca Raton pizza joint…Spadini’s Pizzeria.

Just so we are straight with each other, Jeff Eats hasn’t gotten to the joint yet, but at least 7-maybe 11 or maybe it was 13 people (who have eaten there) told me that this “hole-in-the wall” turns out some of the best New York Style pizza/subs/other stuff that they have had- since migrating down here from Brooklyn, New York– Montclair, New Jersey–Hartford, Connecticut– Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania– Cortland, New York–Chicago, Illinois.

Being a top notch “reporter”- this morning Jeff Eats called Spadini’s Pizzeria and spoke to its owner 31 year old Thomas Sellick. Sellick told me that he has lived in South Florida for about a year and prior to coming down- he learned his “craft” working in his family’s Northport, New York (for those who don’t know, that’s part of Long Island) pizza joints. He told me that he opened for business on February 7, 2013—just so you know, Sellick bought out Mizner Plaza Pizza (reviewed 11/28/12), 134 Northeast 2nd Avenue, Boca Raton… did a drop of cosmetic surgery—and with new recipes and menus in hand re-opened as Spadini’s Pizzeria. Sellick told me that he has the same seating as Mizner Plaza had-that being a handful of tables inside and a handful outside. He also said-the joint works on an “order at the counter/pickup at the counter” system–but if you “want” he or one of his “guys” will bring the food over to your table.

Anyway…

Like I said, Jeff Eats is hearing terrific things about Spadini’s Pizzeria. If you get there before I do, I’d apprecaite hearing your thoughts.

You can check Spadini’s website www.spadinispizzeria.com for menu/prices/photos/other stuff.

Spadini’s Pizzeria, 134 Northeast 2nd Avenue, Boca Raton, Florida 33432, (561) 826-7123—is open Monday-Saturday 11am-11pm, Sunday noon-9pm.

The 64,000 Dollar Question:
Are the opinions of the folks from Montclair, Hartford, Pittsburgh, Cortland and Chicago-to be trusted on what consitutes top-notch New York Style pizza? We “know” that the Brooklyn folks are qualified, but-the others?—Jeff Eats is just asking!

With the above in mind, yesterday Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats ate lunch at Pizzacraft Artisian Pizzeria- basic cheese pizza pie, meatball sub, ricotta appetizer and…since I am neither Polish nor Latvian, lousy way-overpriced crap!- the $18 6-slice pizza was under-cooked (the cheese was room temperature) and the dough was topped with a puddle (trust Jeff Eats, “puddle” is being kind) of “who knows what reddish/yellow liquid”- the $14 meatball sub tasted like/and had the same consistency as the Sloppy Joes that P.S. 179’s cafeteria use to serve for lunch in 1957 (trust Jeff Eats, in 1957 nobody lined-up for seconds on those Sloppy Joes) and the $9 ricotta appetizer had no taste-whatsoever!

To be perfectly honest with you, after paying the $56- bill (tax and tip included) I felt like an absolute schmuck for having chosen this joint to eat at. What a freaking rip-off!

Now you guys and Jeff Eats both know that food “reviewing” is a subjective game…what I may like, you on the other hand may hate -and vice versa…with that in mind, printed down below is Pizzacraft’s description of itself…

Trust Jeff Eats, lousy way-overpriced crap!
