***** Wood & Fire, 5199 West Atlantic Avenue, Delray Beach, Florida 33484, (561) 332-2300.

Got an absolutely terrific Italian joint for you guys, Wood & Fire which opened in Delray Beach something like a month ago.

Yesterday afternoon, Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats and another couple did a late lunch at Wood & Fire and no bs- the joint literally blew us away! Super modern “industrial warehouse” decor, indoor table seating, two outdoor patios (one covered), indoor and outdoor full liquor bar areas, tvs galore, dynamite food, extremely competent wait-staff, nice sized portions, reasonable prices!

Trust Jeff Eats when I tell you, some of the most delicious wood fired pizza, garlic bread, house salad (W & F Salad), pan seared salmon, meatballs, eggplant stromboli, fried calamari that Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats have had in a very long time!

***** Frank Corso – Tony B’s Ristorante & Supper Club.

What with all of the would be burglars who live down here in sunny South Florida- just maybe Jeff Eats shouldn’t be telling you guys that- Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats and two other couples just booked a Sunday, November 20, 2016 6:30pm dinner reservation at Tony B’s Ristorante & Supper Club in Plantation!

Looking forward to a night of delicious food and great entertainment!

By the way to all of you would be burglars- my cousin Louis’ adorable puppy-Mousey is staying with Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats at our Boca Raton home through Thanksgiving and is kinda jumpy around strangers who come into our house via sliding glass doors, windows- but don’t worry, last week he got his rabies shots!

***** Franco Corso *****

Recently saw “Italian crooner” Franco Corso at an Italian restaurant in Palm Beach Gardens…the guy blew my socks off.

If you like- in no particular order, Sinatra, Bocelli, Jerry Vale, Domenico Modugno (Volare) you will absolutely love this guy. Based on his website www.francocorso.com he has upcoming “dates” at several South Florida Italian restaurants and numerous country clubs/communities. Jeff Eats “saw” him backed by tracks, but I understand that he also works with bands and orchestras.

If this type of “thing” is your bag, then make it your business to see Franco Corso…you won’t be disappointed!

Got a real good Italian joint for you guys, Tony B’s Ristorante & Supper Club which opened something like 2- months ago in Parkland!

img_0218

Just so we are straight with each other, Tony B’s isn’t a $ $15.95 mom & pop- soup or salad- entree- pasta side- garlic knots, red sauce Italian joint- that said, I’m thinkin’ that you won’t need to take a second job either to pay the tab at this white table cloth, booth/table seating, separate full liquor bar area, separate dance floor, weekly music events- Italian restaurant which serves-up delicious food, serviced by a skilled professional wait-staff!

Long story short, Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats and two other couples recently did dinner and I gotta tell you that the meatballs in ricotta, chopped salad, rigatoni bolognese, gnocchi sorrenttino veal marsala, pollo scarpariello (on the bone), shrimp oreganatta, veal milanese and tiramisu which found their way to our table- were absolute dynamite! The meal was complemented by the fabulous music of Joey & The Paradons- one of Florida’s premier doo wop/60s/70s bands!

There really isn’t too much more to tell you- other than- you guys gotta give Tony B’s Ristorante & Supper Club a shot! Right on the money food, top shelf service, reasonable prices, nice sized portions, music entertainment- all packaged in a real easy going white table cloth joint!

You can check menu/prices/entertainment schedule/info at tonybsristorante.com.

***** LaSpada’s Original Hoagies, 2240 Northwest 19th Street, Boca Raton, Florida 33431, (561) 393-1434.

Let’s just call this a Jeff Eats’ “Certain Things Bear Repeating” story…

If you want amazing subs- you gotta go to LaSpada’s Original Hoagies which currently has 5 South Florida locations- Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale, Coral Springs, Davie, Lauderdale-by-the-Sea. You can check laspadashoagies.com for locations/info.

Just between you guys and Jeff Eats, for the past 7 years (at least twice a month) Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats have picked-up subs from LaSpada’s- and each and every time we’ve commented to each other- “as to how good” this joint’s stuff was/is! The latest pickup- last night from the Boca joint- large chicken salad, large turkey, large Italian Special!

Trust Jeff Eats on this one, you will love Laspada’s subs- or as it-calls them…hoagies!

Trust Jeff Eats when I tell you- that 12″ sub can easily feed 3 people. Just between you guys and Jeff Eats, Laspada’s chicken salad is absolute dynamite, but that’s just between us.

***** Laspada’s Original Hoagies, 4346 South Grape Drive, Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, Florida 33348 (954) 776-7893.

Laspada’s is a “sub-grinder-hoagie-heroes”!(or whatever you call them) joint. There are currently 3 South Florida locations…Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, Davie and Coral Springs. The Lauderdale joint is the original location…I must have gotten stuff there at least 20 times…I have also been to the Coral Springs location twice…Never been to the Davie store.

The guys who own Laspada’s are “masters” at making phenomenal-fantastic hoagies. Take a look at Laspada’s website at www.laspadashoagies.com for menu/pricing…also take a look at the photos of the stores and sandwiches being made.

If you want to eat absolutely incredible stuff, then you absolutely want to get to a Laspada’s. The joints are open 7-days a week for lunch and dinner. Keep in mind, that there is very limited seating and the game is primarily takeout.

This red sauce mom & pop Italian joint’s food is so good that it’s scary!

Now, if you’re lactose intolerant or something- Franco & Vinny’s garlic cheese bread may not work for you- that said- for the rest of you guys, absolute dynamite! Personally, I’m into eating the bread “simultaneously” with Franco & Vinny’s chicken marsala and rigatoni with meat sauce, but that’s just me!

***** Franco & Vinny’s Pizza Shack, 2884 East Sunrise Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33304, (954) 565-6000.

Now I’m not 100% sure here, but if you go to Webster’s Dictionary–and look up “mom & pop red sauce Italian joint” you’ll find Franco & Vinny’s Pizza Shack in Fort Lauderdale listed.

Not going to mince words here, I absolutely loved this joint. Tried it out the other night for dinner…and Franco & Vinny’s is firing on all cylinders. At this stage of this game, you can check menu/prices at www.francoandvinnys.com.

Now nothing for nothing–we aren’t talking gourmet/fancy schmanzy Italian stuff here. We are talking pizzas, pastas, garlic rolls, subs, loads of napkins and more Coca Cola than any normal human should consume at any given time.

Just for the record, on my “outing” there were eight of us…tried– large plain pizza, veal parmigiana, chicken marsala, shrimp scampi, chicken cacciatore, clams & mussels/linguini/red sauce, fried calamari, meat lasagna, baked clams oregenata, eggplant parmigiana—like I said a few seconds ago, Franco & Vinny’s was firing on all cylinders.

Neighborhood pizza joint prices & service.

I am telling you, if “red sauce” joints are your game, you will absolutely-positively love Franco & Vinny’s. Now for sure, some dishes were better than others, but the pluses and minuses are too small to even be concerned with. If I got one bitch, I personally like chicken cacciatore to be on the bone and Franco & Johnny’s uses boneless white meat–but the garlic bread with cheese is worth the price of admission alone.

Franco & Vinny’s is open 7 days a week 4pm-11pm.

Turnstiles- The Ultimate Tribute To The Music Of Billy Joel (Boca Black Box- Boca Raton)

* Turnstiles- The Ultimate Tribute To The Music Of Billy Joel.

If you guys can keep a little secret, Jeff Eats remembers Turnstiles beginnings…back then, just a few short years ago, when Tony the band’s “Billy” (who at the time was the keyboard player of the Shakedown Band) mentioned to me-his plans for a South Florida based Billy Joel tribute band!

Long story short, today- Turnstiles is one of America’s best Billy Joel tribute bands! The band plays all over the United States, usually to Standing Room Only crowds!

Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats have seen Turnstiles something like 5 times and all I can tell you is…

If you’re a Billy Joel fan, you gotta go see Turnstiles!

The Skinny:

Turnstiles- The Ultimate Tribute To The Music Of Billy Joel
Friday, December 16, 2016 (8pm)
Boca Black Box
8221 Glades Road, Boca Raton, Florida 33434
Box Office: (561) 483-9036
Tickets: bocablackbox.com goldstar.com (discount tickets)

from bocablackbox.com
After years of performing with various original projects and cover bands, Tony decided to form “Stormfront”, his first Billy Joel tribute back in 1993. While Stormfront played to critical aclaim in the New York Area, their career was cut short when Tony decided to relocate to South Florida. Now, some 15 years later, Tony decided to enlist some of the finest musicians in South Florida to join with him to once again pay tribute to the man he has so much respect and admiration for, Billy Joel. Never intending to be an impersonator, his focus instead is simply on the music and delivering a faithful and completely live Billy Joel experience to share with others. Turnstiles’ renditions of Billy’s classic songs are certain to move the casual listener as well as the hard core “Joel fan” to their feet and have them singing along with all the classics!

***** Winn Dixie Wing Bar.

Last night while shopping in Winn Dixie, 7024 Beracasa Way, Boca Rston, Florida 33433, (561) 368-5442 Jeff Eats “discovered” Winn Dixie’s Wing Bar and I gotta tell you- that you guys definitely got to give this $6 per lb, self-serve (8 flavors) chicken wing “bar” a shot!

Just between us, Jeff Eats must be slipping as I don’t recall all of the “offered” flavors- but when I got home my 2 lb bucket had a load of teriyaki, barbecue, buffalo, fried and roasted wings!

Like I said, 6 bucks a lb- trust me on this one, for $12- Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats had plenty to eat- with the “suckers” pictured below being left over for Jeff Eats’ breakfast this morning- straight out of the refrigerator!

img_0145

For you guys who maybe wondering, Mrs. Jeff Eats also boiled-up 4 ears of corn ($3.99- Walmart) to complete the wing “dinner”- with both the wings and corn being washed down with Crush Orange Soda ($1- 2 liter/Walmart).

No bs-here, the wings were absolutely delicious and definitely could successfully compete with most of the wings served-up by the sports bars Jeff Eats has patronized down here in sunny Florida!

Jet’s Pizza is a national “takeout” pizza chain. I’m thinking that it currently has something like 350 stores in 17 maybe 18 states.

Last week, Jeff Eats “tried for the first time and took-out twice” from the Jet’s Pizza which opened in Boca Raton-3/15. Night #1 it was the Signature 8 Corner Pizza, Night #2 it was the Signature 8 Corner Pizza with pepperoni and a Jet’s Boat (think calzone and you’ll be thinking right- stuffed with mozzarella cheese, pizza sauce, sausage, pepperoni and topped with butter/Romano cheese- $8.99) and I gotta tell you, the pizza and boat blew me away. No ifs, ands, or buts-one of the best “calzones” that I’ve ever had- as for the pizza, think Sicilian/deep dish and it was absolute dynamite. Just between you guys and Jeff Eats, if Mrs. Jeff Eats let me-do this joint twice in one week, the food had to have killed! Trust me, the lady…before I get in trouble here, let’s just leave it- that the food killed!

Like I said, Jet’s is a national takeout pizza chain. Some stores have seating, the one in Boca Raton -no seating. By the way, there are a ton of Jet’s Pizza joints in Florida- you can check jetspizza.com for locations/menu/info. Just between you guys and Jeff Eats- this Jet’s Pizza is one-hot franchise with a huge number of stores currently In development!

Let me wrap this up for you, that Signature 8 Corner Pizza and Jet’s Boat were terrific. Jet’s also has other types of pizzas, salads, wings, subs- so there is plenty of stuff to choose from.

Look!

Jeff Eats knows his crowd- and right about now, some of you guys must be saying…Hey Jeff, you-losing your freaking mind or what? This Jet’s is a takeout chain and these kind of joints make cheap garbage-so you been smoking or something?

Putting the “smoking” aside for the moment,

Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats LOVED the pizza and the boat…

I’m telling you guys, give this chain a shot!

Veterans Day!

Posted on November 11th, 2016 · American Music/Events/Other · No Comments »

img_0191

from Wikipedia.org
Veterans Day is an official United States public holiday, observed annually on November 11, that honors military veterans; that is, persons who served in the United States Armed Forces. It coincides with other holidays, including Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, celebrated in other countries that mark the anniversary of the end of World War I; major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, when the Armistice with Germany went into effect. The United States previously observed Armistice Day. The U.S. holiday was renamed Veterans Day in 1954.

Veterans Day is not to be confused with Memorial Day; Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans, while Memorial Day honors those who died while in military service.[1]
