This breakfast-lunch joint is scarily good!

Trust Jeff Eats, The Sticky Bun is an absolute must try!

***** The Sticky Bun, 1619 Southeast 3rd Court, Deerfield Beach, Florida 33441, (754) 212-5569.

Gotta little secret I gotta tell you guys…every so often I find a joint that is so-good, that while I’m eating there- I’m already “thinking” as to how- fast I can get to the old computer and tell you about it! Trust Jeff Eats, it doesn’t happen too often, but it does happen!

With the above secret in mind, straight up- Jeff Eats is telling you, that you absolutely-positively have to try The Sticky Bun a “mom & pop hole in the wall-order at the counter/pickup at the counter diner”- handful of counter seats/inside & outside tables in Deerfield Beach.

Trust Jeff Eats when I tell you that this “diner” isn’t your ever-day run of the mill joint…When were you last in a joint that- cured its own bacon and baked fresh English muffins? Drop me a line when you remember where and when!

The Sticky Bun does breakfast and lunch. Its got all kinds of breakfast stuff, salads, sandwiches, baked goods, so on and so forth!

Rather than my knocking myself-out telling you- how delicious The Sticky Bun’s scrambled eggs with bacon/English muffin, pulled pork arepa and sticky buns were…take a chance that Jeff Eats just might be right-on this one and give it a shot!

Like I said at the start, this is a hole in the wall joint- seating is super-limited…so don’t be planning on holding a wedding reception or an engagement party there!

The Sticky Bun is open Tuesday-Saturday 7am-4pm, Sunday 8am-2pm, closed Monday. For more info- thestickybun.com.

Got a real good “mom & pop” American-diner joint for you…Gilbert’s 17th Street Grill.

The menu is not large…but has enough soups, salads, burgers, sandwiches, grilled items and desserts…so nobody’s gonna starve. A recent outing netted me a cheeseburger, bbq ribs and a philly cheesesteak sandwich…everything was delicious and priced just right. Nothing fancy here, just real good food. Take a look at the joint’s website www.gilberts17thstgrill.com for menu/prices/details.

Chicken Slaughter Gets Makeover As Perdue Addresses Welfare

Just read this article on bloomberg.com.

Not sure where Jeff Eats is going with all of this- but I’m sure that the chickens who read the article were thrilled with the good-news!

Chicken slaughter gets makeover as Perdue addresses welfare
MONDAY , JULY 17, 2017 – 9:45 AM

Shruti Date Singh
of Bloomberg

(c) 2017, Bloomberg.

Perdue Farms, known for its namesake chicken brand, is rolling out gentler slaughter practices as part of its efforts to reduce trauma and discomfort for birds.

The company will increase its use of gas stunning, according to the first annual progress report on animal care released by Perdue on Monday. The process exposes birds to a gas mixture that renders them insensible to pain or distress before slaughter.

It’s the latest step in the poultry industry’s campaign to respond to consumers, especially Millennials, who are increasingly concerned about animal welfare. The Salisbury, Maryland-based company, the fourth-largest U.S. chicken producer, is pushing for better poultry care, improved relationships with its contract farmers and transparency with consumers, according to Chairman Jim Perdue.

“There are a lot of reasons for us to move forward on better care,” Perdue, whose grandfather started the company in 1920, said in a telephone interview. “It’s good for the chicken, farmer and the meat.”

The company will introduce the gas stunning at a Delaware chicken plant in November and gradually implement it in all its facilities. The process is already used at its turkey plant in Indiana.

Discerning consumers are rapidly leaving their mark on U.S. agriculture, whether it’s through surging demand for organic products, increasing focus on food that’s considered sustainable, or greater attention on animal treatment. The poultry industry has come under fire after reports from activist groups in recent years highlighted poor conditions for both animals and employees. Last month, Tyson Foods Inc., the largest U.S. chicken producer, introduced a series of measures to make its operations more humane.

Perdue has made several other recent changes to address bird welfare, adding more space, daytime light, windows in chicken houses, dark resting time and physical activity. The company has introduced incentives for farmers who adopt the practices.

“Not only is it the right thing to do for the birds, but it’s the right thing to do for the business, given the certain direction of the market,” Leah Garces, the U.S. executive director of Compassion in World Farming, said in a statement. Perdue’s efforts will put pressure on other poultry producers to do the same, Josh Balk, vice president of farm animal protection at the Humane Society of the U.S., said in a a telephone interview.

Perdue is also continuing to study slower growing birds. The industry has been criticized for producing fast growing big birds with disproportionate top half for white meat. Some animal welfare groups have filmed birds that can’t walk under their weight because of faster growing.

While less than 1 percent of Perdue’s birds are breeds considered slower growing, the company has been studying them for five years, evaluating health, growth rate, feed efficiency and meat quality, according to Bruce Stewart-Brown, Perdue’s senior vice president of food safety, quality and live production. The so-called woody breast texture problem that’s appeared in some chicken meat doesn’t show up in slower-growing birds, and chefs say birds raised for longer offer enhanced flavor, particularly in broths, he said.

***** Charm City Burger Company, 1136 East Hillsboro Boulevard, Deerfield Beach, Florida 33441, (954) 531-0300.

Last night Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats ate at fast-food burger joint, Charm City in Deerfield Beach.

Nothing for nothing, we have been eating at this- order at/pickup at the counter joint since April 17, 2008-so last night’s terrific- bacon cheeseburger, turkey burger, French fries, onion rings came as no “surprise”…

Seeing all of those New York, New Jersey. Ontario license plates on the road,

Just thought I’d mention Charm City to you guys- who have yet to eat there…this joint is an absolute winner! Trust Jeff Eats when I tell you that Charm City runs circles and I do mean circles around fast food burger players like Five Guys and BurgerFi -now, there is absolutely nothing wrong with either of them (Jeff Eats is a real steady customer of both chains), but they are cookie cutter mold type operations, like-you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all!…Charm City is a one-shot-deal, there is only one…so on and so forth.

Great food. Super reasonable prices. Cool vibe!

Printed down below is Jeff Eats’ “review” from October 20, 2009.

***** Charm City Burger Company, 1136 East Hillsboro Boulevard, Deerfield Beach, Florida 33441, (954) 531-0300.

Back on April 17, 2008 I did a review on a “burger” joint named Charm City Burger Company. If you check that review, I absolutely loved the food. At that time, the joint had only been open for something like 3-months…and I questioned its “longevity” based on its piss-poor location. To make a long story short…the joint is still around– has new owners– has a cult-like following—and the food is absolutely DELICIOUS.

At this stage of this re-review check www.charmcityburgers.com for menu/prices.

All I can tell you, is that I was in the joint last week…delicious bacon cheeseburger, terrific french fries, great sweet potato fries, incredible chicken wings. sensational grilled chicken and soft shell crab rolls.

Order/pickup at the counter. Absolutely nothing fancy here. Just…outstanding food.

Charm City is open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner.

***** The Dandee Donut Factory, 1900 East Atlantic Avenue, Pompano Beach, Florida 33060, (954) 785-1461.

Let me start by saying that Jeff Eats LOVES-The Dandee Donut Factory-in Pompano Beach.

For the record, Jeff Eats originally told you guys about Dandee on 11/19/11-but some stories warrant “re-telling”…

Just so we are straight, there are two other Dandee Donut outposts in South Florida-Deerfield Beach and Hollywood…Pompano Beach and Hollywood are owned by the same guy, while the Deerfield Beach store has a totally different-unrelated owner.

For the purposes of today’s story…I’m only talking about the Pompano Beach joint…which is open 24/7-which has indoor table/counter–outdoor patio seating…which makes amazing donuts and serves-up delicious “diner” food. If you are wondering why Jeff Eats is “featuring” Pompano Beach–it’s because this is the joint that Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats have been frequenting -to the tune of something like twice a month for years. While I’m busy telling you my life story- Hollywood’s donuts/food are as good as Pompano’s…Deerfield Beach’s donuts are OK-but not great (Remember! I told you -this joint has a different owner not to mention a different baker)-but its diner food is decent enough.

At this stage of the game I’m gonna let you check dandeedonuts.com for menu/prices/other info.

If you got the time, you can “read” (or re-read, whatever the case may be) Jeff Eats’- The Dandee Donut Factory write -up (11/19/11).

I’m gonna close this story out by telling you, that if you want- terrific donuts, delicious diner food, fabulous pleasant service, perfect diner-decor (whatever that is!)…then you gotta get yourself over to The Dandee Donut Factory in Pompano Beach.

Oh! One other thing…

In surfing the net, Jeff Eats caught on TripAdvisor what I think is one of the greatest food reviews of all-time…

“Fantastic donuts!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2014 NEW
We rolled into Dandees about 1:00 AM at the end of August. Despite Pompano Beach being almost completely shuttered, Dandees was bustling. The donuts are far superior to Dunkin and the atmosphere was worth the trip. I believe my son met his future ex wife there!!
