Can one of you guys please explain to Jeff Eats- Americans’ seemingly endless fascination with The British royal family.

Didn’t we beat these cats in 1776 so we wouldn’t have to deal with these folks?

Just between you guys and Jeff Eats- I’m kinda thinking that Prince Harry and his brother Prince William (products of the Lucky Sperm Club) aren’t the sharpest pencils in the pencil box- but that’s just me!

While you’re working on The British royal family for me, maybe you can also tell Jeff Eats what these Khardashian clowns are all about!

Thanks!

Got this e-mail this morning…

Jeff,
It was a pleasure meeting you and your wife at Friday night’s Morris Day & The Time concert in Pompano Beach. Terrific show.
As I mentioned, my wife and I in late April retired to Deerfield Beach after living our 41 years of married life in Plainview, Long Island. We are just getting organized and as I told you we literally stumbled across your jeffeats.com site while looking for restaurants to eat in. Your taste in both food and entertainment match up pretty close with ours.
You have tons of picks and I was wondering if you could give us a great ‘mom & pop’ Italian joint in the Deerfield Beach area. As you may recall we are living around the Powerline/Sample Road area and we’re looking for that one pizza tee shorts/tee shirt joint to really count on.
Once again, great meeting you.

Joe K:

Glad that you enjoyed Morris Day and the Time. It was a great show.

It was nice meeting you and your wife.

Real simple answer to your “request”…just by coincidence, last night- Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats ate dinner at Nino’s Pizzeria in Boca Raton- and I gotta tell you, that this joint for the past 23 years has been one of our go-to-“mom & pops”…never and I repeat-never- a bad meal. Just between you and me, Nino’s makes a veal chop parmigiana and chicken cacciatore/chicken scarpariello both on the bone- that are off the chart. As for New York Style Pizza, the joint’s pies and slices are top-shelf!

Printed down below is a “review” that Jeff Eats did back on 5/19/14…try Nino’s- the bet here, you and your wife will absolutely love it!

Thanks for reading..

***** Nino’s Pizzeria & Restaurant, 7120 Beracasa Way, Boca Raton, Florida 33433, (561) 392-9075.

Way back on March 20, 2008 Jeff Eats told you guys about Nino’s Pizzeria & Restaurant in Boca Raton.

Time for a little update on what is definitely one of the best “mom & pop” red sauce Italian joints in South Florida.

For your convenience the “original” story is printed below…gonna save you the trouble of scrolling around.

Anyway,

Just for background, Nino’s opened for business in Boca Raton in 1983-you mathematicians can do the math–for the rest of you-that’s 31 years ago. In something like 2005, it opened a second location in Delray Beach. Partners fall-out, one gets Boca Raton, the other gets Delray Beach. So now you know, the business angle here.

Now-just so we are straight, we are talking about Boca Raton- here. Absolutely-positively nothing wrong with the Delray Beach location–Jeff Eats (1) lives closer to the Boca joint and (2) Jeff Eats thinks that the food, service, ambiance are better in Boca Raton- but trust me Delray Beach ain’t exactly chopped liver either.

Anyway,

Jeff Eats has never “officially” counted the number of times-I’ve eaten in/taken out from Nino’s–but I’m guessing 70 maybe 80, let’s just say it’s a lot. I want to tell you, that not- even- one- time was the food not right on the money–same for the service. Real simple… its soups, salads, pizzas, calzones, subs, pastas, entrees are all delicious. Off the top of my head, I would match Nino’s veal chop parmigiana ($22 soup/salad, pasta side, garlic rolls), its chicken cacciatore on the bone ($17.95 soup/salad, pasta side, garlic rolls), its chicken scarpariello on the bone ($17.95 soup/salad, pasta side, garlic rolls) and its shrimp scampi ($22.50 soup/salad, pasta side, garlic rolls) up against South Florida’s best “mom & pop” and “upscale” players. While I’m on the subject of food, Nino’s plain pizza is always on the money and the joint makes what it calls an “upside down Sicilian” pie that is a work of beauty–if you go, get it!

You maybe wondering why the sudden “gushing” about Nino’s?

Last night, Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats and some dear friends- ate dinner at Nino’s and we got to discussing “various” Italian joints–and like a bolt of lightening–it hit me as to how really good Nino’s stuff is! Just that simple! Real fast-right off the top of you head, other than Nino’s–name a “mom & pop” red sauce Italian joint that does chicken cacciatore and chicken scarpariello on the bone…you do know, that’s the only RIGHT WAY to make those dishes–but that’s just my take-on the-thing!

You can check menu/prices at www.ninosofboca.com.

Nino’s Pizzeria & Restaurant is open 7 days a week 11am-10pm.

***** Nino’s Pizzeria & Restaurant, 7120 Beracasa Way, Boca Raton, Florida 33433, (561) 392-9075—&—13900 South Jog Road, Delray Beach, Florida 33445, (561) 499-3988

Nino’s is one of my favorite “mom and pop” Southern Italian joints in South Florida. I could be going out on a limb here, but I think that after you have tried this joint, you will also become a big fan.

Just so you know, the Boca Raton location has been around for something like 25 years…the Delray Beach location has been in business for about 3 years. Over the years, I have eaten in the Boca location something like 30 times and the Delray location twice…although the menus are almost identical, I like the food, ambiance and service in the Boca restaurant better…call me a creature of habit, but I really feel at home when I enter the Boca joint…from the way I am greeted at the front door, to Nino the owner waving and talking from behind the pizza counter to the customers…the food and service in Delray Beach is just fine, but there is something “special” about the Boca location.

Although Nino’s seemingly “follows” the standard pattern…Soup or salad, garlic rolls, entree with a pasta side…this joint makes some of the most delicious dishes and pizza that you have ever eaten. I would personally match its veal chop parmigiana—bone in chicken cacciatore— bone in chicken scapriello—shrimp scampi entrees against any Italian restaurant down here in South Florida.

Like I said before, Nino’s has been around for something like 25 years. The Boca Raton joint is jammed for dinner 7-days a week and has a takeout business that seems to be never ending. The Delray Beach spot has also developed quite a following…but my heart belongs to the Boca joint. Both joints are open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner.

Great food. Great service. Pizza joint prices…

By the way, Nino and his wife Josephine own Josephine’s Italian Restaurant which is located on Federal Highway in Boca Raton. That’s a story for another day…but Josephine’s is a very good “white table cloth” joint.

* Which One Would It Be?

If you “had” to eat in–just one…Which One Would It Be?

McDonald’s
Wendy’s
Burger King
Checkers
Sonic

By the way, here’s a tip for you guys…Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers (fast food chain with locations primarily in the western states) is planning a major “push” into Florida starting in late 2013. For right now, Freddy’s has no Florida locations.

Trust Jeff Eats on this one, Freddy’s food is dynamite—better than all of the guys listed above, though I will tell you, that it’s a real close call with Sonic. Just for the record, Jeff Eats “thinks” that Sonic is heads-and-shoulders above McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Burger King and Checkers…but please! don’t let my pick-color your picks. For what it’s worth, Jeff Eats thinks of Sonic as being the “child” that Burger King and Dairy Queen always wanted.

Check Freddy’s out at www.freddysusa.com.

Anyway…until Freddy’s arrives-to save the day (“line” courtesy of Mighty Mouse)-pick one from the list. If you got nothing better to do, feel free to elaborate on your pick.

First things first, don’t like the joint’s name!

Real simple concept at work here- table/booth seating, menu loaded with reasonably priced appetizers/ salads/ subs/ pizzas/ pastas/ entrees, open Tuesday-Friday 11:30am-9pm/ Saturday-Sunday 4pm-9pm/closed on Monday.

Last night, Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats- along with Daughter Jeff Eats and Son Jeff Eats “re-discovered” Pizzoodles (see 4/17/16 writeup- below) and all four of us agreed that the joint’s name- sucked- its food was delicious and its service/ prices were right on the money!

As for Pizzoodles name, I guess- as Emmet Kelly once said…A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.”

This is a very simple tale to tell- Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats and another couple did a recent dinner at red sauce Italian joint Pizzoodles and its food blew all four of us away! If Pizzoodoles was-by Jeff Eats’ Boca Raton home, I’d be one-very-steady customer! The joint covered every base- delicious food, super competent service, reasonable prices, big portions! For you guys who need further inducement to try Pizzoodles- the joint’s garlic rolls and cheese pizza alone were worth the Boca Raton to Vero Beach car ride!

For those of you who maybe thinking that Jeff Eats has lost his edge or something- the name Pizzoodles “in my humble opinion” s-u-c-k-s big time!- and that Boca Raton to Vero Beach car ride “line”- is just my way of telling you folks who live or work in Pizzoodoles’ neighborhood, that the joint is an absolute must try!

Real simple tale to tell you, Jeff Eats is thinking- that Tucci’s Fire N Coal Pizza is one of the best coal-oven pizza joints in Florida.

No bs-here, its salads, pizzas, pastas and entrees are all- off the chart- and I really can’t think of another Florida coal oven joint that makes better coal oven wings.

Tucci’s is an absolute must try.

Jeff Eats can’t even begin to imagine- that you won’t love this joint!

***** Tucci’s Fire N Coal Pizza, 50 Northeast 1st Avenue, Boca Raton, Florida 33432 (561) 620-2930.

Regular, Jeff Eats’ readers know that…I love a good pizza. I don’t care if it’s brick-oven, wood oven, coal oven, this oven or that oven…just as long as it tastes good. You also do know that I speak fluent Italian…”Give me two slices and a large Coke.”…don’t you? Over the past 3-years or so, South Florida has been “hit” with a ton of new pizza joints which play the “coal oven-chicken wings” card…guys like Anthony’s, Coal Mine, Carolina’s, Mona Lisa, just to name a few…and by in large, they are all pretty decent… of course, some are better than others…that’s why Jeff Eats is here.

Anyway…last night, I gave Tucci’s Fire N Coal Pizza in Boca Raton a shot. The joint which has been open for something like 3 months… has indoor seating for about 50 and maybe 10 outside. The menu has 4 appetizers, chicken wings, escarole & beans, eggplant rollatini and sauteed broccoli rabe & sausage…2 salads, Italian and caesar…loads of coal/wood cooked pizzas…2 desserts, cheesecake and cannoli…beer and soda by the bottle.

Let’s make this review easy. I had an Italian salad, margherita/ricotta pizza, chicken wings. The food was delicious. The salad was cold, fresh, crisp… The chicken wings were seasoned with garlic and carmalize onion, The pizza was thin crusted, crisp, perfectly well-done, right on the money sweet sauce…As for service, pleasant as can be…Price-wise, small wings (10) $9.95, salad which could have feed 3 ($10.95), pizzas–depending on what you order (that’s obvious) start at- small ($13.95)-large ($17.95).

Tucci’s Fire N Coal Pizza is a really good coal-oven pizza/chicken joint. I enjoyed its food and casual “hole in the wall” atmosphere. By the way, you can check Tucci’s menu/prices at www.tuccispizza.com.

Tucci’s is open for lunch & dinner Tuesday-Sunday…the joint is closed on Monday.

Got a real good one for you guys- and I do mean real good…

Gourmet Killer Dogs- a fast food/cash only (boo!)/order-pickup at counter- grilled hot dogs- wings- French fries- Italian ices- sandwich joint in Delray Beach!

Jeff Eats and three buddies did a recent lunch and trust me, Gourmet Killer Dogs served-up absolutely killer (pun intended) stuff! Just between you guys and Jeff Eats, give me 2-grilled all beef hot dogs in soft buns- topped with deli mustard and warm sauerkraut and I’m a pig in sh@t, so this joint was right up my alley! The beautiful thing about Gourmet Killer Dogs is that in addition to all beef hot dogs, it has “other” types of dogs, dynamite fresh hand-cut French fries, toppings galore, wings and a lobster roll that kills, so no matter who you’re eating with (unless there is something seriously wrong with them) will definitely find something delicious to eat!

One final thought, for you guys who think that it’s perfectly okay- to top a hot dog with ketchup- Jeff Eats gives up, because It’s Not!

Gourmet Killer Dogs is open Monday-Thursday 11am-7pm, 11am-9pm, closed Sunday.

Everyday Guidance for Eating America’s Sacred Food

The National Hot Dog and Sausage Council includes a full guide for etiquette in an online video, but here are just a few tips and tricks.

Full Guide for Etiquette

Don’t…
Put hot dog toppings between the hot dog and the bun. Always “dress the dog,” not the bun.

Condiments should be applied in the following order: wet condiments like mustard and chili are applied first, followed by chunky condiments like relish, onions and sauerkraut, followed by shredded cheese, followed by spices, like celery salt or pepper.

Do…
Serve sesame seed, poppy seed and plain buns with hot dogs. Sun-dried tomato buns or basil buns are considered gauche with franks.

Don’t…
Use a cloth napkin to wipe your mouth when eating a hot dog. Paper is always preferable.

Do…
Eat hot dogs on buns with your hands. Utensils should not touch hot dogs on buns.

Do…
Use paper plates to serve hot dogs. Every day dishes are acceptable; china is a no-no.

Don’t…
Take more than five bites to finish a hot dog. For foot-long wiener, seven bites are acceptable.

Don’t…
Leave bits of bun on your plate. Eat it all.

Don’t…
Fresh herbs on the same plate with hot dogs over-do the presentation

Don’t…
Use ketchup on your hot dog after the age of 18. Mustard, relish, onions, cheese, sauerkraut and chili are acceptable.

Do…
Condiments remaining on the fingers after eating a hot dog should be licked away, not washed.

Do…
Use multi-colored toothpicks to serve cocktail wieners. Cocktail forks are in poor taste.

Don’t…
Send a thank you note following a hot dog barbecue. It would not be in keeping with the unpretentious nature of hot dogs.

Don’t…
Bring wine to a hot dog barbecue. Beer, soda, lemonade and iced tea are preferable.

Don’t…
Ever think there is a wrong time to serve hot dogs.
