Delray Marketplace Music Fest (Delray Beach)

* Delray Marketplace Music Fest.

Well! At least the Delray Marketplace (9025 West Atlantic Avenue- delraymarket.com- (561) 865-4613) is trying- to draw some people for its retail tenants!

Here’s the center’s list of FREE CONCERTS scheduled for May, 2015.

Look! Jeff Eats isn’t trying to be a ball-buster here, but IF you are looking to draw people- you gotta at-least-kinda-know what you are doing…

To whoever (whomever?) is doing the Music Booking…you don’t book a TOM PETTY tribute band for the crowd that “lives” in the center’s 5 mile radius…

Your crowd is predominantly RETIREES…trust Jeff Eats- 60s+ got no idea of who the hell Tom Petty is! Don’t believe me, walk around the center- and just ask the people to name 2, actually make that 1- hit that Tom Petty had…you’ll see that Jeff Eats is right!

***** Mr. Nick’s Sub Shoppe, 901 South Andrews Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33316, (954) 462-1913.

Got a real good sub-joint for you, Mr. Nick’s Sub Shoppe in Fort Lauderdale. Freestanding building, order/pickup at window–tables outside under a canopy…not exactly the fanciest joint going. You can check menu/prices at www.mrnickssubshoppe.com. Mr. Nick’s is open Monday-Friday 8:30am-6pm, Saturday 9:30am-3pm, closed on Sunday.

Like I said a few seconds ago, this is a “real good” sub joint…

Mr. Nick’s has all kinds of hot/cold subs (6″ & 12″), sandwiches, burgers, franks, salads.

For the record, Jeff Eats forced himself to “try”–philly cheesesteak sub, chicken parm sub, chicken salad sub–now trust me here, the subs were all delicious, with a special shoutout to the philly cheesesteak which came with cheese-mushrooms-grilled onions-green peppers. Now I know-we could debate sub/hoagie bread here all day long…some of you guys like hard crust and some of you guys like a real soft outside— as for “me” I like it both ways–just as long as it tastes good. For the record, Mr. Nick’s goes with a delicious soft sub.

By the way, did you hear about the guy who ordered a turkey sandwich at a lunch counter. The waitress told him that they were out of turkey, so he ordered a chicken sandwich. The waitress replied, if we had chicken I would have brought you a turkey sandwich.

Anyway…If you’re like me and enjoy eating a sub under a roadside canopy…Mr. Nick’s Sub Shoppe is for you.

Blue Bell’s CEO says the ice cream company is “heartbroken” over the need to pull all of its products from store shelves. A possible health risk was found in half gallon containers of Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice cream produced March 17 and 27.

DALLAS — Blue Bell Ice Cream on Monday issued a voluntary recall for all of its products because of a possible health risk found in half-gallon containers of Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice cream produced on March 17 and March 27.

Known to millions as “the little creamery in Brenham,” the Texas company explained its decision in a news release issued just before 9 p.m. CT.

Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headaches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.”

Eggs Cetera Cafe (Lake Worth)

eff

Eggs Cetera Cafe, 6346 Lantana Road, Lake Worth, Florida 33463, (561) 968-8200.

This past- Sunday morning, Jeff Eats and his good friend Roy had breakfast at a new breakfast-lunch joint…Eggs Cetera Cafe in Lake Worth.

Eggs Cetera which opened about a month ago has both indoor and covered outdoor patio seating…and is open 7 days a week 7am-4pm.

Eggs Cetera has an extensive all-day breakfast/lunch menu.

You can check menu/prices at eggsceteracafe.com.

The reason why my “comments” may seem a bit terse, is because they are!

Just so you know, the food was good, the service was good, the prices were right…absolutely no problems with the $9.99 meat omelet/home fries that I had- same for the $8.99 veggie omelet/grits that Roy ordered. That said, the toasted everything bagel (I had) and the plain toasted bagel (Roy had)- were beyond lousy…just imagine white bread disguised as a bagel and you’ll be on the right page!

Now for the “terse”…prior to being seated- Jeff Eats and Roy had maybe a 5 minute conversation with Eggs’ owner-Peter…among other things- we talked about his former restaurant Benny’s On The Beach, his plans for Eggs Cetera, the Jeff Eats’ blog and other restaurants in the area…2-3 minutes after that conversation, the hostess sat us at what had to be the worst-outside table…to keep this short, the wait-station was something like 1-foot from Jeff Eats’ back when seated…you wanna talk cramped! Trust Jeff Eats, that “table” ruined what “would” have been a pretty strong-breakfast outing. Just between you and me, I coulda bitched and had the table changed- but then I’d only have had the bagels to dump on!

Let me wrap this up for you, this Eggs Cetera Café should do real-good…trust Jeff Eats- this guy Peter knows how to run a breakfast/lunch joint…but then again, just maybe he doesn’t!

Now for the sticky part of this “conversation”- Jeff Eats knows that IF I AM PETER, 1-I don’t give Jeff Eats a crap-table and 2-during the breakfast I stop by the table and see how Jeff Eats and Roy are doing…but I AM NOT PETER, so crap table and no visit tells me that I WON”T BE BACK FOR ROUND #2… and I know that there are a bunch of you guys out there who are saying “Jeff Eats who do you think you are?…but that’s the call here!

Finally, just because Jeff Eats wasn’t a happy camper doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t try this joint…just a word to the wise, don’t order the everything bagel, don’t order the plain bagel and sure as hell don’t let them seat you by that wait-station!

Sweet Treats Bakery (Pompano Beach)

***** Sweet Treats Bakery, 2900 West Sample Road, Pompano Beach, Florida 33073, (954) 984-4785.

Got something really terrific for you guys…Sweet Treats Bakery a brand new bakery-concession stand which opened about a-month ago in The Festival Flea Market Mall in Pompano Beach.

Long story short,

Yesterday afternoon- Mrs. Jeff Eats “needed” some baked goods for a bunch of “her” relatives visiting from New York…based on her friend Audrey’s recommendation, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats picked-up 2-Russian coffee cakes, 2-chocolate babkas, 2 1/2 lbs.of assorted rugelach, 6 almond horns, 1 dozen chocolate chip cookies- for some unknown reason, Mrs. Jeff Eats chose not to run-the-table- by not picking-up some- of the danish, muffins, breads, Chinese cookies, chocolate meltaways, linzer tarts and hamantaschen that Sweet Treats also- features in its display cases.

Sweet Treats is owned/operated by Joanne and Mary- who combined, have 53 years in the retail bakery business…Sweet Treats’ stuff is “baked” off premises and delivered fresh every morning to The Festival Flea Market Mall-joint. From what I understand, when an item is sold out, it’s sold out- until the next day! In addition to the “items” above, Sweet Treats has a number of “no sugar added” products- and has a rotating list of cookies/cakes -that are “daily specials.”

Now, you know and Jeff Eats knows that the proof is in the pudding…and I gotta tell you, that everything we picked-up was right on the money! If I had to, but I don’t, but I will- tell you that the Russian coffee cake and the chocolate babka absolutely killed! These two “cakes” alone- made the use of my SunPass worthwhile. Now don’t get me wrong, everything that Mrs. Jeff Eats’ relatives devoured were hits- but that babka and that coffee cake were game changers.

On the price-front, Joanne and Mary are banging “things”-out at Publix type prices…for example- the babka and coffee cake fetch $7.95 a piece!

Just a word to the wise, based on what Jeff Eats saw…if you “want something in particular” call ahead- and have Joanne or Mary put it away for you…yesterday at 3:30pm, Sweet Treats’ stand was jammed with people literally buying everything in sight!- and like I said 3.2 seconds ago, when an item is sold out, it’s sold out!

Sweet Treats Bakery is open Monday-Friday 9:30am-5pm, Saturday-Sunday 9:30am-6pm.
