I know, I’ve already used this one…there are more “mom & pop” Italian restaurants in South Florida than there are Chins in a Chinese phonebook. That said, all mom & pop joints are not equal …they rank terrible-fair-good-very good-outstanding.

I recently had dinner at a 12-table joint…Tommy’s located in Davie. This one has to be ranked OUTSTANDING. A taste test of shrimp scampi, eggplant parmigiana, sea scallops oreganata, veal marsala, fried calamari, Italian wings, linguine with meat sauce…everything absolutely delicious.

There really isn’t too much more to say, except… casual-reasonable prices-very pleasant waitstaff…an absolute must try.

Tommy’s is open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner.

***** Galuppi’s, 1103 N. Federal Highway, Pompano Beach, Florida 33062 (954) 785-0226.

Last night, I had an absolutely terrific time at a joint named Galuppi’s in Pompano Beach. Just so you know, Galuppi’s which calls itself “Galuppi’s Restaurant, Patio Bar & Banquets” is actually located on the public Pompano Beach Golf Course… the view from its out-door patio of the course is absolutely amazing.

Galuppi’s is basically a restaurant/catering facility. There is a small indoor restaurant that has a large sit-at-bar, 4 booths and maybe a half-dozen hi-tops…outside, there is another sit-at-bar and loads of tables…there is also a banquet room attached to the restaurant that can be used for private parties or for restaurant customers. Now, to put this whole layout in perspective…go to Galuppi’s website at www.galuppis.com where you will find actual pictures of what I have been blabbing about, along with menu/prices/and other details.

Last night, Galuppi’s which does lunch and dinner 7 days a week and brunch on Sunday had The Beatles’ tribute band “Anthology” performing from 8pm-midnight. Suffice it to say, this joint was absolutely packed… the restaurant-the banquet room-the outside bar/patio…the band was on a small stage on the patio and I’ll bet you that from 8:30pm-10:30 pm (time I was there) there were at least 500-600 people maybe even more, eating…drinking…dancing. I am telling you, it was an absolutely great “party.” By the way, there was no cover charge or minimum…so for the price of a meal or a drink…or for that matter, just walking in…got you into this “concert.”

Just a quick note, “Anthology” was terrific. They were dressed in replicas of The Beatle’s Shea Stadium army-uniforms and had the requisite Beatle haircuts…they did some great covers of The Beatles’ hits. The group is extremely personable and their interaction with the crowd had the joint really jumping. Their faux British accents which came and went all evening long, added to the fun…and yes, they even have a left-handed bass player. You can check “Anthology” out at www.myspace.com/fab4anthology. I guarantee that based on last night’s action, Galuppi’s owners will have “Anthology” back for another gig in the very near future.

I already gave you this joint’s website…take a look at its menu. There are plenty of appetizers, salads, burgers, sandwiches, entrees and desserts to keep everyone busy…By the way, the prices are very reasonable and last night our waitress Bobbi-Lynn was absolutely terrific despite the fact that the joint was absolutely packed (and I do mean packed). Last night I had babyback ribs, I also sampled the crab-cakes, snapper francaise and steak kabobs. The food is decent. Personally I would put it about “1-notch” above the stuff you get in your typical neighborhood sports bar. Just so you know, Galuppi’s also has tons of flat screen tv sets inside and outside…Last night every set was tuned to the Olympic Games, so if “The Beatles” weren’t your game, you could scream for the American swimmers.

One thing that I found interesting…the banquet room has sound-proof glass. Amazingly, while eating in the room, you couldn’t hear the out-door crowd or the band at all.

Galuppi’s is open for lunch and dinner 7 days a week and for brunch on Sunday. According to its website, the joint has all kinds of entertainment and “specials”…so If you want to try Galuppi’s, I would suggest that you ”call ahead” to find out “what’s on tap” (pun intended).

Trilogy Restaurant at Silverspot Cinema (Coconut Creek)

***** Trilogy Restaurant at Silverspot Cinema, 4441 Lyons Road, Coconut Creek, Florida 33073, (954) 840-8150.

Got something absolutely terrific for you guys, Trilogy Restaurant which is located-in the spanking-brand new 11-screen Silverspot Cinema movie complex-at The Promenade Coconut Creek. For our pur

Real simple story, a few weeks ago Silverspot Cinema (a relatively “new” movie theatre development/operation company) opened a complex in Coconut Creek …huge leather seats, tons of leg room, super modern décor, state of the art sound/projection systems…an absolutely dynamite theatre!

Now stay with me,

In addition to -movie screens, Silverspots- “have” a Trilogy Restaurant (bar/restaurant combo) in their lobbies…

Celebrity Chef David Burke- trust Jeff Eats, you’ve probably seen the guy on tv- or maybe eaten in one of his NYC restaurants…designs the layouts and operates the bar/restaurants! The Coconut Creek location seats maybe 200 and has indoor seating/out door patio seating/separate full bar area.

Continuing on,

The other night- Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats and another couple gave Trilogy a shot and I gotta tell you- the joint killed it!

image

As you can see (then again maybe you can’t- hey! I went to Brooklyn Law School, not Joey’s Photo & Computer Academy in Woodmere, New York) Trilogy’s menu is eclectic enough…so everyone in your party will find what to eat!

The Eats’ outing…crab cakes, cheeseburger sliders, chicken milanese, margherita pizza, Caesar salad, cheesecake lollipops- like I said 1.2 seconds ago, the food killed! This ain’t typical movie theatre-food, this is real-top restaurant stuff and the wait-staff was as professional/pleasant as can be. Just between you guys and Jeff Eats, the joint’s chicken milanese and margherita pizza were worth the trip alone- definitely right up there with the best that I’ve had down here in sunny South Florida!

Let me wrap this up for you,

This Silverspot Cinema got something real special going-on in Coconut Creek. First-rate theatres and an in-house restaurant that can easily compete with any stand alone restaurant in the area!

Here’s a call for you, Silverspot Cinema in Coconut Creek (all the way around- movies/restaurant) is gonna be a homerun!

You can check hours/menu/locations/info at silverspot.net.

Like doo wop, old Rock N Roll, disco? If you do, catch Manhattan Harmony.

It’s a “free” show…but you do know that it isn’t Meatball Room’s intention to be a Not For Profit Corporation!

Jeff Eats has seen Manhattan Harmony- a number of times and it- puts on a real-nice “track” show!

The Premier at Cinemark Palace 20 (Boca Raton)

Posted on June 16th, 2015 · Boca Raton Music/Events/Other · 7 Comments »

bvi

* The Premier at Cinemark Palace, 3200 Airport Road, Boca Raton, Florida 33431.

The other night Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats, Daughter Jeff Eats and Son Jeff Eats caught “Entourage” at The Premier at Cinemark Palace 20 in Boca Raton.

Apparently having money to burn, Daughter Jeff Eats and Son Jeff Eats bought 4-tickets for a showing in The Premier at Cinemark- rather than buying regular tickets…

Just so you guys know, The Premier at Cinemark is a 15 year-old operation…suffice it to say it is RUN-DOWN, DATED and the night Jeff Eats was there had dirty ladies/mens bathrooms and a theater that was dirty with sticky cup holders/arm rests. The reason for the rant in this case, Cinemark has some nerve up-charging for theaters that are anything but Premier.

Just so you know, Jeff Eats via e-mail relayed the “above” comments to Cinemark’s corporate offices- and within 24 hours-received a call from Cinemark’s General Manger. Very pleasant guy, who said that he would immediately address the cleanliness issues-but conceded that the facility -is 15 years old- so forth and so on! Following that phone call, the GM sent Jeff Eats the following e-mail… “It was great talking with you this morning. Thank you again for your time and input. I have already shared your thoughts with my supervisor and will address the restroom issues with my managers.”

All I can say is that- I understand wear & tear, but when you got a 2000 Cadillac don’t advertise it as if it were a 2015 Cadillac and surely don’t charge to “lease it” as if were a brand new vehicle. In addition, what did Jeff Eats get out of this whole “thing”?- Nothing- other than a column about another large company that probably doesn’t give a rat’s ass about you!

Cinemark is a huge national theater owner/operator…surely it can hire General Mangers who in addition to promising to look into things- are smart enough to say to the complaining customer “Hey, when would you and your family like to come-in for another movie?” This GM didn’t do that and Jeff Eats is thinking-that just maybe Cinemark’s HR Department might want to institute new training protocols on how to handle customers, not to mention how to keep theaters clean! As for updating facilities, guaranteed “no updates” eventually =s “no customers.”

To wrap it up,

Cinemark in Boca Raton (it was formerly known as Muvico) use to be top-shelf…operative words here “use to be.”
