Go figure!

Some of the best Cantonese Chinese food that Jeff Eats has ever eaten- is being served up by Yummy House–a “typical” mom & pop-decor Chinese joint in Tampa.

Trust Jeff Eats on this one, I’d match Yummy’s–eggrolls, wonton soup, fried dumplings, bbq ribs, kung po shrimp, hong kong roast duck, sesame chicken, orange pork chops, roast pork fried rice -up-against the best joints that I’ve eaten in/taken out-anywhere in Florida-not to mention New York City and San Francisco’s Chinatowns.

I ain’t playing here…amazing delicious food, huge portions at real reasonable prices.

Just as a point of reference, Jeff Eats knows that there are a boat-load of you guys who swear by Silver Pond in Tamarac—Yummy House’s food v. Silver Pond’s food, would be like having matched Joe Louis in his prime against your 87 year old Uncle Joey (by marriage to you Aunt Marlene) who has glaucoma in both eyes…I know, overly dramatic, but definitely not even close.

Look I know that a ton of Jeff Eats’ audience is in Dade-Broward-Palm Beach—but what is, is! I am telling you, this Yummy House joint is really in a league-of its own. Unfortunately for us (you guys and Jeff Eats), it isn’t in our backyard. But like I just said, what is, is! By the way, that “what is, is” is about 235 miles away/figure 4 hours–unless you’re flying (in a plane, that is).

So! If you live or work in Yummy’s neighborhood, you now know about a great Chinese joint.

Yummy House is open 7 days a week…11am-3pm, 5pm-10pm.

One final bit of housekeeping…there are 3 Yummy restaurants in Tampa and 1 -in Sarasota. They are owned by the same folks, but each has a slightly different name. For example Yummy House Bistro, Yummy Noodle House…This review is for the Waters-Tampa location. Jeff Eats has not yet tried the others-so no verdict on their respective food etc.

Based on how amazing Pizza Oceano “was” (see Jeff Eats’ 1/7/11-review) I’m thinking, that both-Jerk Oceano and Swell Pizza are must tries!

Pizza Lovers In South Florida Got “Jerk”ed 0ff

“What would you think if the number 1 pizza place in Florida decided to stop serving pizza! Would you believe it?

One of the darling pizza joints of the region recently posted on their Facebook page that they will no longer be serving pizza. Yes, you heard us right. An extremely profitable and popular pizzeria has decided after six years to just change the menu and no longer serve pizza. The place as you might have guessed is Pizzeria Oceano in Lantana. Many pizza owners would give away an arm to have the successful business that Dak (the owner) built there, and yet overnight….POOF. He decides to change the menu.

Let’s take a look at what Dak is leaving behind. Pizzeria Oceano was named the best pizza in Florida on several lists. He was featured in a news story about it being so good on CBS12. We named him the best pizza in Florida. Our friend over at Jeffeats.com has said “Absolutely delicious. I’ll bet you a quarter, that your favorite neighborhood pizza—doesn’t come close to this slice.” You can google the rest, but I don’t think you will find anything bad about this place.

Pizzeria Oceano changed its name to Jerk O and will now solely be serving caribe fare. According to his facebook post he will be using real foods, local seafood, vegetables, and meats. Their breads will be made with the same organic flour that Pizzeria Oceano used at least.

As a consolation prize, Dak recently opened up Swell Pizza in Delray Beach which uses the same ideals as Pizzeria Oceano did. We have heard it is take-out and delivery only, but Dak says he has perfected putting his pizzas in a box.”

We have to hand it to Dak, he follows his heart. Like it or not, he has been very successful in places where people told him he couldn’t be successful. We can only wish him luck!”

The Shopping Mall was packed – as the wife shopped, she was surprised when she looked around to find that her husband was nowhere to be seen.

She was quite upset because they had a lot to do. She became so worried that she called him on her cell phone to ask him where he was.

In a quiet voice he said, “Do you remember the jewelers we went into about five years ago where you fell in love with that diamond necklace that we couldn’t afford, and I told you that I would get it for you one day?”

The wife choked up and started to cry and said, “Yes, I do remember that shop.”

He replied, “Well, I’m in the golf shop next door.”

Got something absolutely terrific for you guys, Manos Bakery Café in Clearwater…order at/pickup at the counter- bunch of 4-top tables- “mom & pop” joint that does breakfast stuff, soups, salads, sandwiches, wraps, Greek & European style pastries, breads and cookies.

No fooling here, Jeff Eats wasn’t playing when I called Manos Bakery Café- “terrific”…if Panera Bread Company’s 1,900 stores had food- like Manos Bakery Café does- Panera’s stock would be $500 a share and not the $175 it currently trades at!

First things first, Manos Bakery Cafe’s website is manosbakerycafe.com, the joint is open Monday-Friday 7am-7pm, Saturday 8am-5pm, closed on Sunday.

A recent lunch had Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats doing, Greek salad with gyro ($7.84), chicken bacon panini ($6.55) and taking-out a load of mixed cookies and pastries. Trust Jeff Eats when I tell you guys that if – this joint was by my house in Boca Raton – I’d weigh 563 lbs because I’d be there at least 3 no-make that 4 days a week eating in/taking out!

You live, work or are anywhere near Manos Bakery Cafe- you gotta go!

For what it’s worth, I’ll be at a 10-top table with 4 other couples, but if you are really into the “stuff” I opine on, not a disgruntled restaurant owner or a terrorist- Please Make It Your Business to stop-by and say hello, etc.

Joey Dale fronts one of South Florida’s premier Doo Wop Groups–Joey Dale & The Gigolos.

For the past several years, Joey has been throwing himself phony baloney birthday parties- where he invites all kinds of local-music talent to attend. Some come and some don’t come! He also invites some “national” talent and like the local-guys- some show and some don’t show!

You gotta pay a few bucks- to go to the party (Hey! Jeff Eats already told you it was a phony baloney party, didn’t I?) and assuming you like Doo Wop, Oldies music- you will have an absolute blast partying with whoever-shows up!

The one “sure thing” at Joey Dale’s Birthday Bashes is that… Joey Dale & The Gigolos will perform…that alone is worth the price of admission!

I don’t know about you guys, but I think that these “suckers” (pun intended) are absolutely delicious…

If I got my math right, $.20833 a pop (pun intended)!

Got something real good for you guys, Don Nicola Pizzeria located in the Mystic Pointe condominium hi-rise community in Aventura.

Not for nothing, you gotta go through a guard-house to get to the joint- but don’tcha-worry, the guards- all honor graduates of the Colonel Klink School of Security & Counter Terrorisn will let you in, just have a current driver’s license… When you go through the ‘checkpoint” the restaurant which has a handful of indoor/outdoor tables is about 100 feet straight ahead right on the Intracoastal Waterway.

As you can see from the menu down below, kinda limited- handful of gas-brick oven pizzas, salads, entrees, desserts- wine and beer.

Real simple tale…Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats absolutely loved the thin crisp -sweet sauce margherita pizza, chicken napolitana, fresco verde salad that we ordered.

Another cool thing about Don Nicolas Pizzeria- unless you live in Mystic Pointe you’re probably the only person in your “social circle” (that is-unless like you they read Jeff Eats) who has ever heard of the joint- for whatever that’s worth! Look at it this way, when you eat there- you ain’t gonna be bumping into your obnoxious next door neighbor -the one with the Doctor Diamond Nose- who constantly brags to you that her kids went to Harvard while your two geniuses- were lucky to have made it through Staten Island Community College!
