***** Hong Kong City BBQ, 5301 North State Road 7, Tamarac, Florida 33319, (954) 777-3832.

Got a real-good Chinese joint for you…Hong Kong City BBQ in Tamarac.

The beautiful thing about Hong Kong City BBQ is that nobody in your car is gonna bitch about going there. The reason Jeff Eats says that, the joint has dim sum, Brooklyn-Jewish-American Chinese food circa 1957 and authentic Chinese food (whatever that is?).

Anyway,

A party of 6-of us recently gave Hong Kong City BBQ a shot and I gotta tell you, the food was right on the money.

Let me give you a fast run down of what was ordered…
House Wonton Soup.
Egg Drop Soup.
Chicken Corn Soup.
Pan Fried Pot Stickers.
BBQ Roasted Honey Roasted Spareribs.
BBQ Roasted 1/2 Duck.
Shrimp Pan Fried Noodles.
Roast Pork Fried Rice.
Peking Pork Chops.
Sweet & Sour Pork.
Steam Whole Tilapia.
Lobster Cantonese.

Now, nothing for nothing–not one person in our party “didn’t find what to eat” and everyone agreed that the food was really good. The prices are “neighborhood” Chinese joint prices, the décor is neighborhood Chinese joint décor. Playing to its name–Hong King City BBQ (with the emphasis on BBQ) the joint has some bbq chickens/ducks/pigs hanging over the front counter–which gives the joint a nice New York City Chinatown Dump feel.

You guys know that Jeff Eats really isn’t into doing “pecking orders”…that said, the House Wonton Soup, BBQ Honey Roasted Spareribs, Peking Pork Chops and Sweet & Sour Pork were at the top of my list. Like I said before, everything was really good, but the stuff I just mentioned–was really-really good.

I’m just guessing here, but I’m thinking that some of you guys may want to know: Does Hong Kong City BBQ have any “Early Bird” deals? Yes “Virginia”-from 3pm-7pm- 7 days a week Hong Kong City BBQ has an Early Bird which gets you–soup/egg roll/white or fried rice/entrée.

Let me wrap this one up,

Jeff Eats really enjoyed Hong Kong City BBQ. Give this joint a shot- I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

You can check menu/other stuff at www.hkcitybbq.com.

Hong Kong City BBQ is open Monday-Friday 11am-11pm, Saturday-Sunday 10:30am-11pm.

Just between you guys and Jeff Eats, this Banquet Macaroni & Cheese Meal ain’t gonna win no Betty Crocker Awards- but like I said 1.4 seconds ago, in a pinch it works just fine! By the way, at a buck a pop- Jeff Eats’ Walmart buy- was good for 6 pinches!

***** DISH OF THE WEEK (Sunday- 9/6/15- Jet’s Pizza).

One (actually I should say two) of Jeff Eats’ favorite menu items…

SIGNATURE 8 CORNER PIZZA
$12.99
&
JET’S BOAT
$8.99

Jet’s Pizza
8903 Glades Road

Latest Review: 9/6/15

Jet’s Pizza is a national “takeout” pizza chain. I’m thinking that it currently has something like 350 stores in 17 maybe 18 states.

Last week, Jeff Eats “tried for the first time and took-out twice” from the Jet’s Pizza which opened in Boca Raton-3/15. Night #1 it was the Signature 8 Corner Pizza, Night #2 it was the Signature 8 Corner Pizza with pepperoni and a Jet’s Boat (think calzone and you’ll be thinking right- stuffed with mozzarella cheese, pizza sauce, sausage, pepperoni and topped with butter/Romano cheese- $8.99) and I gotta tell you, the pizza and boat blew me away. No ifs, ands, or buts-one of the best “calzones” that I’ve ever had- as for the pizza, think Sicilian/deep dish and it was absolute dynamite. Just between you guys and Jeff Eats, if Mrs. Jeff Eats let me-do this joint twice in one week, the food had to have killed! Trust me, the lady…before I get in trouble here, let’s just leave it- that the food killed!

Like I said, Jet’s is a national takeout pizza chain. Some stores have seating, the one in Boca Raton -no seating. By the way, there are a ton of Jet’s Pizza joints in Florida- you can check jetspizza.com for locations/menu/info. Just between you guys and Jeff Eats- this Jet’s Pizza is one-hot franchise with a huge number of stores currently In development!

Let me wrap this up for you, that Signature 8 Corner Pizza and Jet’s Boat were terrific. Jet’s also has other types of pizzas, salads, wings, subs- so there is plenty of stuff to choose from.

image

Look!

Jeff Eats knows his crowd- and right about now, some of you guys must be saying…Hey Jeff, you-losing your freaking mind or what? This Jet’s is a takeout chain and these kind of joints make cheap garbage-so you been smoking or something?

Putting the “smoking” aside for the moment,

Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats LOVED the pizza and the boat…

I’m telling you guys, give this chain a shot!

***** Silver Palace Chinese Restaurant.

Way-back on April 13, 2014 Jeff Eats told you guys about- Silver Palace Chinese Restaurant in Miami.

Just between us, I hadn’t been back since that “story” appeared.

Long story short, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats ate dinner there last night and I gotta tell you- this joint makes some top-notch delicious stuff.

sp1

sp2

sp3

For our purposes, we’re gonna call Silver Palace Chinese Restaurant an “out of sight, out of mind” situation…trust me, it’s a schlep and a half from Boca Raton!

Anyway,

With “Season” fast approaching, the next time one of your ” visiting out of state friends” asks- “You got any good Chinese restaurants down here?- with your head held high, clothed in your tee shirt/shorts/sneakers’ ensemble- you can tell them all about/or take them to -Silver Palace Chinese Restaurant!

***** Silver Palace Chinese Restaurant, 5771 Southwest 137th Avenue, Miami, Florida 33183, (305) 382-1598.

Got a terrific-Chinese joint for you…Silver Palace Chinese Restaurant in Miami.

For what it’s worth, Jeff Eats can’t begin to tell you–how many times in any given month–somebody comes up to me and says–and I paraphrase “Can’t find decent Chinese food down here.” By the way–I counted 3x in March 2014–but who’s counting?

Between Jeff Eats and you–there are actually a load of good Chinese restaurants/take outs down here in Sunny South Florida…just like there are a ton of really good pizza joints down here–but that’s a story for another day!

If you guys check, Jeff Eats’ “Chinese” there are a number of rave Chinese reviews.

Anyway…

Before I get going on Silver Palace Chinese Restaurant–I’m thinking that in NYC, Chicago, Boston, Cleveland (you can pick your favorite non-South Florida City) there are plenty of lousy/horrendous Chinese restaurants. If memory serves me correctly, when the-Eats Family lived in Manhattan from 1979-1991 there was a Chinese restaurant right across the street from our apartment building at the intersection of East 63rd Street and 2nd Avenue that served up some of the most disgusting stuff imaginable—as a matter of fact, there was also a Chinese joint one block away on 2nd Avenue and East 62nd Street that was a close second to the “guy” on 63rd Street. Get the point! If not, this “food reviewing”-deal is a strictly subjective enterprise.

Back to Silver Palace…

Recently ate at Silver Palace and thought that the food was dynamite. Just so you know, the joint has 2-menus. One for us “Brooklyn” folks looking for Jewish-Brooklyn- American Chinese food circa 1957–and another for you folks into “real authentic” (whatever that means? probably garlic squid-but not sure) Chinese food.

The Silver Palace meal…wonton soup, egg drop soup, egg rolls, bbq ribs, sweet & sour pork, roast pork fried rice, pepper steak, garlic chicken, shrimp in lobster/black bean sauce–and I gotta tell you–“imho” this joint could make a real-good living in NYC’s China Town. For those of you who like pecking-orders, the garlic chicken and sweet & sour pork were off-the-chart. By the way, your tee shirt/shorts/flip flop ensemble will definitely work-in this mom & pop joint.

Quick story…

A few months ago, a friend (not gonna mention names) raved about NYC’s– Shun Lee Palace’s food claiming that the Chinese food in South Florida was- and I quote “dog food” …to make a long story short, this same guy and his wife were with Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats when we ate at Silver Palace–and during dinner told me, and I quote-“This food is better than Shun Lee’s, at half-the-price.” Like I said, before, this food reviewing business–is purely a subjective game.

I’ll leave it up to you guys to decide for yourselves—all I know is that Silver Palace’s food was “imho” TERRIFIC!

Silver Palace Chinese Restaurant is open 7 days a week 11am-10pm.

* BOD/HOA.

A recent e-mail to Jeff Eats.

Jeff,
My husband and I have lived in the ________________ CC for over 30 years.
Never in all that time, did we ever have trouble with our neighbors in our local subdivision.
In the past few years a number of new people have purchased homes and moved in and are now trying to change the way things have been done for over 30 years.
Out of a BOD of 7 they now hold 4 of the seats.
They have absolutely no idea as how things work and want to spend a fortune of money on all kinds of so called improvements that we don’t really need.
Since they have 4 of the 7 they have a pretty good shot of getting their way.
I know that awhile back that you did a story on BODs and HOAs and how they don’t really know what they are doing.
Could you republish that story for me?
I would also like your thoughts on how best to stop these aggressive know nothings.
Thanks,
CVR
______

CVR:

The “story” you mentioned is reprinted down below.

Jeff Eats (jeffeats.com) really isn’t the right place/source-for the advice that you are looking for.

Believe me, I know as to exactly where you are coming from. I’ve heard- your “problem” way too often, as a matter of fact, Jeff Eats has had similar issues with my own-South Florida “community”…

That said, if you really don’t like what the BOD is “cooking up”- I would suggest that you/and your like minded neighbors talk to a real sharp attorney…trust me, there are many monkey wrenches that your BOD may not want to deal with.

Best of luck,

Thanks for reading…

COUNTRY CLUBS, CONDOS, CO-OPS, NEIGHBORHOODS…BOD & HOA
Posted on September 29th, 2014 · Music/Events/Other

* COUNTRY CLUBS, CONDOS, CO-OPS, NEIGHBORHOODS…BOD & HOA.

Jeff Eats has been down here in sunny South Florida for over 22 years…you-know the land of Boards of Directors and Home Owner Associations.

Let me ask you guys something and you be honest…

Hypothetically speaking-If you needed triple heart bypass surgery would you let the Chairman of the Board of IBM who was a graduate of Harvard College, Harvard Law School and the Wharton School of Business with a BA in accounting, JD degree and a Masters & Doctorate in Calculus perform the operation for nothing?

___________(fill in answer).

Then why the hell do you guys entrust the operation of your Country Clubs, Condos, Co-ops, Neighborhoods to some guy or gal who is- some retired NYC school teacher, retired owner of a dry cleaning chain, housewife, retired shoe salesman, president of a men’s clothing chain?

Now no offense intended to you board members…but what do most of you guys know about…construction, bank financing, booking bands, maintenance, home owner rights, contracts, hiring contractors, décor design, landscaping?

______________(fill in answer).

Quick story, in my neighborhood one of the sub-divisions was missing the letter “S” from its entrance-way sign. In the time it took the HOA to get the “S” replaced, GL Homes probably built 5,000 homes in Delray Beach from scratch.

Trust me I know the BOD and HOA game and if you ask me…it’s a real dumb game.

Once again, no insult intended to you board members, but did you ever notice that by in large- the really top-guys in your communities DON’T GET INVOLVED AND AREN’T ON YOUR BOARDS? Wanna know why?-because they don’t want to get involved (especially for no compensation) with a bunch of yentas (Google if necessary) who actually think that they can out negotiate Comcast, and build entrance ways without having formal construction or engineering backgrounds.

I know, I know, that the “rules” say someone has to do it…just ask yourself, what makes you qualified to be that SOMEONE?

Finally, all Jeff Eats knows, is that if you ain’t on a BOARD…your neighbors won’t hate your guts because- 1. you raised the dues, 2. you hired a crap comedian, 3. you fined them for speeding, 4. you fined them for flying a US Flag, 5. you got the Club/Condo/Co-op into a lawsuit, 6. you hired a crooked contractor, 7. the complimentary bagels at the gym suck, 8. you violated Federal law as it pertains to service animals, 9. you ticketed them for parking in the street over night, 10. you signed an absurd lopsided contract with some property management company…

When you lived in that 6 story apartment building on Ocean Parkway in Brooklyn, you paid your rent and bitched to Leo The Super to make repairs and waited every 3-years for a new paint job. Now that you’ve moved to Sunny South Florida…many of you in essence became the “landlord”-that you grew up hating your whole lives.

Okay, done with that rant…but I will close by telling you. that ANYONE WHO SITS ON A GRIEVANCE COMMITTEE IS A FOOL…and I am dead serious here!

America’s entire justice system is based on fairness to all parties- and there is no way in HELL that neighbors who KNOW each other-can judge each other fairly!…and you can take that to the bank!

As Jeff Eats’ grandmother Grandmother Jeff Eats use to say…”YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR” and “CHEAP IS CHEAP

***** Brooklyn Joe’s Pizzeria and Italian Restaurant, 3466 Souteast Dixie Highway, Stuart, Florida 34997, (772) 219-2211.

Real simple tale to tell you,

Last night Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats ate dinner at Brooklyn Joe’s Pizzeria and Italian Restaurant a “hole in the wall- mom & pop- red sauce”-Italian joint in Stuart.

Really don’t have time nor the inclination to insult your collective intelligence by “telling” you-the joint’s menu…but if you insist- pizzas, pastas, subs, entrees (salad, garlic knots) so on and so forth…menu/prices at brooklynjoespizzeria.com.

Ordered stuff included…16″ cheese pizza ($10.99), Caesar salad (large- $6.99), chicken parm sub ($8.50), philly cheese steak sub ($7.95), meat lasagna ($12.95)- and I gotta tell- you, it all worked!

Look!

Between you guys and Jeff Eats, Italian joints like Brooklyn Joe’s Pizzeria are a dime a dozen down her in Florida and for that matter-all across the United States. You either like this kinda-eating or you don’t. Give me decent enough pizza, pasta, subs, loads of Coca Cola refills and I’m easy…same goes for Mrs. Jeff Eats, except you gotta substitute water with a piece of lemon for the Coke and throw a salad into the mix- so “she” thinks- she’s eating healthy! You guys do know that you gotta pick your battles- you want water with a piece of lemon, you want salad, fine by me!

Anyway!

Brooklyn Joe’s Pizzeria and Italian Restaurant- got the job done! Nothing off-the chart- but it was all good! The only “thing” that doesn’t make sense to me about Brooklyn Joe’s is that-it’s closed on Sunday and Monday- didn’t Joe ever hear about the NFL?- Howard Cosell, Dandy Don Meredith!

Brooklyn Joe’s Pizzeria and Italian Restaurant is open Tuesday-Saturday 11am-9pm.
