* Phlorida Pretzel, 168 Northwest 51st Street, Boca Raton, Florida 33431, (561) 910-1846.

To the Owner of Phlorida Pretzel:

Yesterday which was Thursday 8/27/15, Jeff Eats wanted to “try” Phlorida Pretzel- had heard some real nice things about your handmade “philly” pretzels from my friend Steve. I checked your website (phloridapretzel.com ) and it indicated that your store’s Summer Hours were: Tuesday-Friday 8am-5pm, Saturday 8am-3pm. At 4:31pm, from my car- I called your phone number 3x and no-one answered- not even an answering machine! When I got to the store at 4:36pm, your lights were out and your door was locked. By the way, there was no sign on the door/window “Closed For Emergency”- “Closed For Death In The Family”- “Closed To Go To The Gym”- “Closed For Gas Leak”- “Will Be Right Back”…nothing! So much for trying your pretzels!

By the way, if your business is called Phlorida Pretzel why this sign?

ppr1

Finally, the really sad part of this story- is that I was kinda looking forward to trying your pretzels and then hopefully telling Jeff Eats’ readers this morning- as to how good they were! C’est la vie!

Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats recently did-lunch and I gotta tell you that the Lighthouse Diner knows its stuff…chicken & waffles, chicken pot pie, bacon cheeseburger- all delicious!

I’m thinking that you regular Jeff Eats’ readers know that I’m a huge-fan of “mom & pop” diners- for sure, some are better than others, but I just like the whole “concept”- no chains, no big nothing- just every day folks trying to make a buck serving up good solid food at reasonable prices. With all that in mind, the Lighthouse Diner has the “formula” down pat- real good food, non-blood curdling prices, pleasant wait-staff all in a “no-drama” setting.

Let me wrap this up for you,

Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats loved the Lighthouse Diner!

The Heavyweight Factory Presents: World Heavyweight Champions Fight Night (Hard Rock Live- Hollywood)

Posted on August 27th, 2015 · Hollywood Music/Events/Other · 7 Comments »

* The Heavyweight Factory Presents: World Heavyweight Champions Fight Night.

If you guys can keep a secret,

Jeff Eats is a huge fight fan…literally, over the years I’ve sat ringside at 100s of bouts and attended countless boxing dinners/events.

Give or take a few, active/retired professional boxers are the most pleasant guys in the world. My all-time favorite boxer inside and outside of the ring was Joe Frazier, with Muhammad Ali being a very close second!

image
Jeff Eats (I’m the white guy), Joe Frazier and some friends at a Black Tie Affair in honor of Mike Tyson’s 91 second knockout of Heavyweight Champ Michael Spinks. If you can keep a secret, that night Joe, Jeff Eats and Arlene Smith & The Chantels did a killer-Mustang Sally- for the crowd!-but keep that to yourself!

Anyway,

This “Heavyweight Fight Night” thing sounds like it could be a lot of fun- that is if you’re “in” the right seat (the former champs are going to be seated at tables on the arena-floor)…just so we are straight with each other, some of the seats- not on the floor seem way overpriced to me…for sure there is a nice fight card- but I’m guessing that your primary goal is to personally meet some if not all of the former champs… bottom-line, if you buy a ticket, make sure that “it” gets you what you want!

You can catch tickets at- ticketmaster.com.

One last thing, I’ve known Shannon Briggs for over 25 years. Super pleasant guy, good puncher and Mike Marrone hasn’t got a prayer!

Jeff Eats has seen this show- trust me, very-entertaining!

One final thought…

Ever notice that the straight-man’s name (with the exception of Allen & Rossi) always came/comes first in the act’s name? Martin & Lewis, Abbott & Costello, Laurel & Hardy…

Rockn’ Angels (Boca Raton)

***** Rockn’ Angels, 7200 North Dixie Highway, Boca Raton, Florida 33487, (561) 327-6314.

Got something I think you guys will really enjoy, Rockin’ Angels in Boca Raton.

For lack of a better “term”- we’re gonna – call Rockn’ Angels a “hole in the wall” dive-bar…full bar inside, tables/hi-tops inside, outdoor patio table seating, tvs, pool table, stage. The joint “seems” to have a perpetual “happy hour” working, all kinds of drink specials, a live music schedule, karaoke nights, poker nights- so forth and so on…

image

Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats stopped in the other night- and the joint was packed-inside and outside…just between us guys, that’s the way a dive-bar is suppose to be- packed! Keep it to yourselves, I’m thinking that Jeff Eats was the oldest person in the joint, with the average age being somewhere around “college” + 4 maybe 5. Hey! Jagger is something like 83 and he’s still running around in his Members Only jacket!

Getting to the jist of the matter, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats eventually got a table and ordered up…Classic Rock Burger, 10 Angel Wings (honey garlic), 1/2 Rack of BBQ Ribs, Bacon Grill Cheese and I gotta tell you, dynamite! Between you guys and Jeff Eats, most people don’t know- that many dive-bars have dynamite food- it’s amazing what some cooks in the back of the house can crank-out from a flat top grill and a deep fryer.

Battle of the Boros VII (Coral Springs Center for the Arts- Coral Springs)

* Battle of the Boros VII.

Jeff Eats wouldn’t exactly call this “concert” a battle- maybe a skirmish!

No-Johnny Maestro, No-Frankie Lymon, No-Carl Gardner, No-Ben E. King, No-Richard Blandon, Yes-Charlie Thomas, Yes-Herman Santiago, Yes-Jimmy Merchant, Yes-Cleveland Still! When you think of the 60’s Yankees-you think Maris, Mantle, Berra, Ford- not Boyer, Lopez, Howard and Turley…Capice!

That said, Jeff Eats has seen all of the “acts” on the bill-and they all-put on a good show!

As I’ve said many times before, you guys aren’t getting any younger, nor are the “oldies” singers of the 50s-60s-70s…so if you “like” this type of music- What are you waiting for? Buy tickets-and Go!

***** Crabman 305, 2006 Opa Locka Boulevard, Opa-locka, Florida 33054, (786) 444-3157.

Real simple tale,

You guys gotta try Crabman 305 a “takeout only” seafood/wings/ribs joint in Miami.

crabby 1

Trust Jeff Eats when I tell you, this “hole in the wall” makes some amazingly delicious- stuff. As for the bars/gates on Crabman 305’s door/window- I’m kinda thinking that it doesn’t want ISIS breaking in and “taking” some of the best bbq ribs, fried lobster/shrimp, chicken wings, crab legs that I’ve had in a very-long time!
