* An Intimate Evening with AMBROSIA- Special Guest Appearance by Martin Dube.

Got something absolutely terrific for you guys…An Intimate Evening with Ambrosia- Special Guest Appearance by Martin Dube.

Real simple tale to tell you guys, on Tuesday, March 1st- Ambrosia who from 1975-1980 received 5 Grammy Nominations, had 5 top 20 singles, sold millions of records and played to SRO concerts all over the world-is set to appear at the intimate 400 seat The Plaza Ballroom in North Palm Beach. Trust Jeff Eats on this one, this concert is gonna be a SRO AFFAIR! This past January, 2016- Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats saw Ambrosia at the Pompano Beach Amphitheater and the SRO crowd of 3,000 absolutely loved the band’s appearance. If you can keep a secret, Ambrosia today, is as good as Ambrosia of 1975-1980. For you guys not familar with The Plaza Ballroom- the joint seats something like 400 and every seat works! The facility employs a gigantic video “wall” that enhances the music and sound – producing an indoor concert “experience” that is simply amazing.

If you guys can keep a secret, Martin Dube, the Canadian Superstar Singer Impressionist also on the bill- is alone worth the price of admission. Jeff Eats has seen Dube a number of times and the man is absolutely amazing, but that’s just between you guys and Jeff Eats.

from ambrosialive.net
Ambrosia (formed in 1971) is a hit-producing and eccentric progressive rock band, known for their seductive ballads and post-disco sound, hailing from Los Angeles, California, U.S.

Originally comprised of frontman David Pack, bassist Joe Puerta, keyboard player Christopher North, and drummer Burleigh Drummond, Ambrosia’s earliest inspiration came from the melodic pop of The Beatles and The Beach Boys. The group was subsequently influenced by the vocal harmonies of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, before attending a King Crimson concert and having their musical perceptions altered greatly. Following a poorly performed audition at A&M Records, the group impressed Rubicon Management with a demo and later inked a deal with 20th Century Fox Records.

With major-label backing Ambrosia issued their eponymously-titled debut album in February 1975. Spawning the hits “Holdin’ On To Yesterday” and “Nice, Nice, Very Nice”, the latter a musical composition set to Kurt Vonnegut Jr.’s “Cat’s Cradle”, the album was subsequently nominated for the Grammy for Best Engineered Album. Produced by the extolled Alan Parsons, the group subsequently appeared on Parsons’ project album “Tales of Mystery and Imagination” in 1976. Despite its progressive nature and occasional inaccessibility, Ambrosia’s debut sold remarkably well and earned a host of favourable reviews.

Following a period of constant worldwide touring, the band returned to the studio with Alan Parsons to release their sophomore album “Somewhere I’ve Never Travelled” in September 1976. The album earned Ambrosia their second Grammy nomination and spawned the popular radio singles “Somewhere I’ve Never Travelled” and “Can’t Let A Woman”. With the success the record afforded the group, Ambrosia subsequently signed with Warner Bros. Records, later contributing the song “Magical Mystery Tour” to the musical Beatles documentary “All This and World War II”.

Taking a step back from the rich vocal arrangements and luscious orchestration, the band’s third full-length “Life Beyond L.A.” saw Ambrosia adopt R&B and jazz influences. The album spawned Ambrosia’s biggest hit to date “How Much I Feel”, reaching No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, with a number of other singles receiving regular radio airplay. Subsequent touring alongside Fleetwood Mac, Heart, and the Doobie Brothers did wonders for the group’s live reputation, however the release later marked the departure of keyboardist Christopher North.

In 1980 Ambrosia issued the full-length “One Eighty”, which produced two of the year’s biggest hits “Biggest Part of Me” and “You’re the Only Woman (You & I)”. Later securing three Grammy nominations, the album was toured internationally, notably with guitarist Cliff Woolley on the Japanese leg. Following the arrival of Bruce Hornsby with the departure of David Lewis, Ambrosia released their fifth full-length album “Road Island” in 1982. Despite the minor hit “How Can You Love Me” the album was a commercial disappointment and after which the group parted ways. The greatest hits compilation “Anthology” hit the shelves in 1997, three years later the group reformed with Doug Jackson permanently replacing Pack, for Ambrosia’s 30th anniversary tour.

Got a real good “mom & pop” red sauce Italian joint for you guys…Guido’s Restaurant & Pizzeria in Coral Springs.

When you check guidosonline.com you’ll find a very reasonably priced menu- loaded with pizzas, salads, hot/cold subs, calzones, strombolis, pastas, entrees, desserts.

If you guys can keep a little secret, Guido’s is exactly what a “mom & pop” red sauce Italian joint is suppose to be all about. Real simple formula- delicious food, pleasant service, big portions, reasonable prices and of course it’s located in a strip center.

A recent dinner had Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats, Daughter Jeff Eats and Son Jeff Eats ordering- large house salad, large Greek salad, large cheese pizza, cheese calzone, chicken parmesan sub, sausage/onion/peppers parmesan sub, linguini with white clams and I gotta tell you that the food absolutely killed! Just between us guys, for Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats, Daughter Jeff Eats and Son Jeff Eats to unanimously “agree” on anything- is the 9th Wonder of The World- and we all agreed-Guido’s stuff killed!

For those who like “descriptions”- the cheese pizza was thin/crispy/sweet sauce and when the slice was folded and pointed down a few drops of oil dripped out -trust me, ridiculously delicious!

Like Jeff Eats said before, the Eats Family really enjoyed Guido’s…I’m kinda thinking, that if you’re into the “neighborhood” pizza joint concept like I am (we are) you’ll also really enjoy Guido’s Restaurant & Pizzeria.

For you guys who can keep another secret, the guys who own Guido’s Restaurant & Pizzeria also own Big Anthony & Guido’s in Coral Springs (which Jeff Eats told you about on February 8, 2008) and Guido’s Brick Oven Pizzeria & Restaurant in Delray Beach which is currently on Jeff Eats’ “to try” list! You can check info/menus/prices/locations for all 3 restaurants at guidosonline.com.

The joint is open Monday-Thursday 11am-9:30pm, Friday-Saturday 11am-10:30pm, Sunday noon-9:30pm.

Hilarious Account of Comic Jackie Mason’s 10 Year Affair with a Playwright/Bellydancer as seen through the Eyes of Their Lovechild – Sheba Mason. Starring Ian Wehrle as Jackie Mason, Trevor Crane as Schlepalong, and Cast of 7. (thejackiemasonmusical.com)

The Boca Black Box in Boca Raton shines the spotlight on Sheba Mason — the self-proclaimed lovechild of comedian Jackie Mason — as she stars in The Jackie Mason Musical: Both Sides of a Famous Love Affair. This comedic chronicle looks at the decade-long tryst between the comedy icon and Sheba’s mother, playwright Ginger Reiter. It all begins at a deli in Miami in 1977, where 46-year-old Jackie spots twenty-something Ginger (played by Sheba). Soon, Jackie’s wooing her each winter, whenever he’s in South Florida churning up laughs with the South Beach set. The trouble is, Jackie is also wooing Trixie, a gorgeous young Latina, and Rosa, a senior citizen with attitude, a fact that sends Ginger into romantic distress. After 10 years, she becomes pregnant, Jackie denies his paternity, while still yearning to be with her, and a complicated relationship begins. Watch as original songs like Ode to the Early Bird Special” and “I Never Met This Yenta” pepper Sheba’s major daddy issues.

“The Dark Star Orchestra re-creates Grateful Dead shows with a flashback-inducing meticulousness.” – The New Yorker

Performing to critical acclaim worldwide for nearly 15 years and over 2000 shows, Dark Star Orchestra continues the Grateful Dead concert experience. Their shows are built off the Dead’s extensive catalog and the talent of these 7 fine musicians. On any given night the band will perform a show based on a set list from the Grateful Dead’s 30 years of extensive touring or use their catalog to program a unique set list for the show. This allows fans both young and old to share in the experience. By recreating set lists from the past, and by developing their own sets of Dead songs, Dark Star Orchestra offers a continually evolving artistic outlet within this musical canon. Honoring both the band and the fans, Dark Star Orchestra’s members seek out the unique style and sound of each era while simultaneously offering their own informed improvisations.

Dark Star Orchestra offers much more than the sound of the Grateful Dead, they truly encapsulate the energy and the experience. It’s about a sense of familiarity. It’s about a feeling that grabs listeners and takes over. It’s about that contagious energy… in short, it’s about the complete experience and consistent quality show that the fan receives when attending a Dark Star Orchestra show.

Dark Star Orchestra has performed throughout the United States and Europe. They continue to grow their fan base by playing at larger venues for two and even three night stands as well as performing at major music festivals including Bonnaroo, All Good Festival, Gathering of the Vibes, Mountain Jam, Summer Camp, Wakarusa and 10,000 Lakes. In addition, Dark Star Orchestra hosts its own annual gathering, Dark Star Jubilee, where they headline three nights and are joined by a mix of established and up and coming national touring acts.

Fans and critics haven’t been the only people caught up in the spirit of a Dark Star show. The band has featured guest performances from five original Grateful Dead members Bob Weir, Bill Kreutzmann, Donna Jean Godchaux-MacKay, Vince Welnick, Tom Constanten and even toured with longtime Dead soundman, Dan Healy. Other notable guests have included Mike Gordon and Jon Fishman of Phish, Keller Williams, Warren Haynes, Steve Kimock, Peter Rowan, Ramblin’ Jack Elliot and many more. Banquet Pot Pies

Posted on February 12th, 2016 · American Fast Food · No Comments »

***** Banquet Pot Pies.

The other day while “shopping” in a Walmart Super Store in Delray Beach- Jeff Eats came across Banquet Pot Pies in the frozen food aisle! Next thing I knew, I had 10 of the 7oz- 84 cent suckers in my cart (4 turkey, 4 chicken, 2 sausage & gravy)…long story short, Jeff Eats tried all 3 pies- (all you gotta do is microwave for 5 minutes) and I have to tell you that I loved them!

If you check Banquet’s website banquet.com- it lists all of the 7oz pot pies that it makes and where you can buy them! Like I said 2- seconds ago, I got mine in Walmart and paid 84-cents a piece. A cursory look at Banquet’s website indicates that Publix and Walgreens also carry the pot pies!

For you guys now scratching your heads questioning Jeff Eats’ sanity for buying this “stuff” at Walmart-no less…all I can tell you, is – don’t knock them until you’ve at least tried them for yourself!

One note of caution, Jeff Eats also tried Banquet’s 8-cheeseburger sliders (Walmart-$2.49) and the freaking things tasted like absolute crap!

Burger King Adds Hot Dogs To Its Menu

* Burger King Adds Hot Dogs To Its Menu.

Just in case you missed yesterday’s news, Burger King announced that starting February 23, 2016 all of its US restaurants will be offering a $1.99 100% All Beef Flamed Broiled (Oscar Mayer brand) Hot Dog and a $2.29 100% All Beef Flamed Broiled (Oscar Mayer brand) Chili-Cheese Hot Dog.

Just between you guys and Jeff Eats, we’ll have to wait and “taste” the dogs before passing judgment on the new menu items. All I know is that when I’m thinking “hot dogs” the name Oscar Mayer never really enters my equation…but like I just said, we’ll have to taste the dogs before passing judgment. Two other quick thoughts, at least Burger King had the good sense to broiled the dogs and not boil them – and starting February 23, 2016 unless something goes very wrong, Burger King will instantly become the largest retailer of cooked hot dogs in the United States.

Jeff Eats will update this “tale” (pun intended) after I down some of the dogs!
