Joy Luck Chinese Restaurant (Palm Springs)

***** Joy Luck Chinese Restaurant, 1684 South Congress Avenue, Palm Springs, Florida 33461, (561) 642-8280.

Real simple tale to tell you guys, last night Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats ate dinner at our friends’ Lou and Angela’s house in Palm Springs. Lou and Angela ordered from Joy Luck Chinese Restaurant which delivered the food to their home! AND- Lou and Angela picked-up the bill! Lou told me that Joy Luck is a “mom & pop” restaurant which does both eat-in and takeout!

Putting aside the fact that free-food always tastes good, I gotta tell you that this Joy Luck joint makes some heavy duty delicious stuff…wonton soup, egg drop soup, egg rolls, fried dumplings, bbq ribs, shrimp with lobster sauce, roast pork fried rice, sweet & sour pork, roast pork lo main, beef with Chinese vegetables- were all right on the money! For the curious, I thought that the shrimp with lobster sauce, bbq ribs and roast pork lo mein absolutely killed!

image

Let me wrap this one up for you guys, free or not free- Joy Luck’s food is really good.

If you live or work in Joy Luck’s neighborhood, you gotta give this joint a shot! AND Lou’s MasterCard # is 1872—–751.

You can check menu/prices/info at joyluckpalmsprings.com.

Joy Luck Chinese Restaurant is open Monday-Thursday 11am-10pm, Friday-Saturday 11am-11pm, Sunday noon-10pm.

Latest Review: 8/1/2012

Just between you guys and Jeff Eats the 1st Street Deli makes an absolutely terrific-Matzo Ball Soup. If you don’t tell too many people, during the past 3 years- on average- Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats ate at the 1st Street Deli something like every 6 weeks or so- and everything that we ordered (i.e.- hamburgers, hot dogs pastrami, corned beef, turkey, potato pancakes, chopped liver, tuna salad, chicken salad) was right on the money! The 1st Street Deli is a great looking joint and its service is as pleasant and competent as can be!

By the way when Jeff Eats first ‘reviewed” the joint back on 8/1/12 there was an- Original Brooklyn Water Bagel outlet in the restaurant…that’s no more, the 1st Avenue Deli now has its own (bagels made in house) operation in that space!- Just in case you’re wondering, the bagels that Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats have tried- (everything, plain, onion, sesame) were as good, if not better than the stuff being turned out by most of the bagel joints that dot South Florida’s landscape!

1st Street Deli is open:
Breakfast
Monday – Sunday: 6:30AM – 11AM | Featuring hot, fresh donuts with every dine-in entrée.

Lunch & Dinner
Monday – Sunday: 11AM – 11PM

Late Night
Friday & Saturday: 11PM – 2AM

*****1st Street Deli, 5550 Northwest 40th Street, Coconut Creek, Florida 33073, (954) 977-6700.

The 1st Street Deli is located inside the Seminole Casino Coconut Creek in Coconut Creek. Great looking joint, with table/booth/counter seating…looks like a NYC “kosher style” deli circa 1960…in addition, part of the “store” has an- The Original Brooklyn Water Bagel Company outlet (check Jeff Eats 8/11/09 review for Delray Beach location).

Just so you know, Jeff Eats always treats casino “restaurants” with a jaundiced eye…is the food any good? are the prices outrageous? is this just a tourist trap?

Got some good news for you on 1st Street Deli…

Tried 1st Street Deli the other night for dinner…matzo ball soup (bowl-$4.95), potato pancake appetizer (3 pancakes $5.95), pastrami on rye (with french fries $12.95), salad trio (1-scoop each of chicken salad, egg salad, tuna salad-$10.95), 8oz cheeseburger with french fries $11.95)—everything was A-OK! As a point of reference, I know a lot of you guys eat in Too Jay’s Gourmet Deli…the food at 1st Street Deli is better than Too Jay’s stuff (see Jeff Eats’ Too Jay’s review 3/28/09)…as a matter of fact, 1st Street Deli’s food is as good as the stuff served at most of the better bagel joints and New York Kosher Style Delis down here in sunny South Florida. For the record, although very good, 1st Street Deli’s food isn’t quite in the same league (although not by much) as TOP delis like the Pomperdale, Zinger’s or Ben’s (if you like, you can check Jeff Eats’ reviews for these 3 joints, if not, not!) On the pricing front, maybe a “drop” higher here and there-than your favorite bagel joint, but nothing that’s glaring…besides, if you spend the money on food, you won’t have to waste time “losing” it playing the slots—in any event, the Indians are gonna get the cash no matter how you slice it.

Check www.seminolecoconutcreekcasino.com for menu/prices.

One final thought, if you checked my review on The Original Brooklyn Water Bagel Company you’d know that it makes some real-good bagels. That said, I think that a bakers dozen at the Casino’s location fetches something like 14 bucks—now that’s a rip-off. One other thing on The Original Brooklyn Water Bagel Company, the casino’s website says that the “bagel” store is open from 6am-11pm–but when I was there at 9:30pm it “appeared” to be closed and its bagel display bins were totally empty…not good!

1st Street Deli is open 7 days a week 11am-11pm.
The Original Brooklyn Water Bagel Company is open 7 days a week 6am-11pm.

***** Manzo’s Italian Deli, 2260 Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard, West Palm Beach, Florida 33409, (561) 697-9411.

For our purposes Jeff Eats is gonna call Manzo’s Italian Deli an “Out of sight, Out of Mind” sub joint!

The truth be told, first told you guys about Manzo’s way-back on February 18, 2010 and then totally forgot about it- until today when Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats ate lunch there!

Outrageously delicious subs!

If you live or work anywhere near Manzo’s, it’s an absolute must try!

***** Manzo’s Italian Deli, 2260 Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard, West Palm Beach, Florida 33409 (561) 697-9411.

I love a great “sub”…please feel free to insert- “hoagie”–“hero”–“grinder” if you like. Anyway…I got an absolutely terrific sub-joint for you—Manzo’s Italian Deli in West Palm Beach. You can check the joint’s website www.manzositaliandeli.com for menu/prices.

Can’t exactly describe it, but Manzo’s “hero bread” is outrageoulsy good. Recently did, a chicken parm ($7.95)–philly cheese steak ($8.45)–sausage/peppers/onion ($7.95)–chicken salad ($7.45) sub-hoagie-hero-grinder and like I said before, absolutely delicious.

Manzo’s Italian is an order-at/pickup-at counter joint.

Manzo’s is open Monday-Friday 9am-6pm.
