2017 Marketplace Music Fest- April & May (Delray Marketplace Amphitheater- Delray Beach)

* 2017 Marketplace Music Fest- April & May.

White Elephant shopping center once again tries to draw “people” who’ll spend some cash…

Whoever is booking “these” bands, Jeff Eats will bet you S100 that you can’t find 20 people at any one of these “concerts” who can name 3-top forty songs that Eric Clapton charted with!

Just maybe, one of these days- the powers to be running the Delray Marketplace will figure out “who” they want to draw and how to get them there!

Just in case you were wondering:

This article originally ran on 8/26/14. Just between you guys and Jeff Eats, before you buy tickets to concerts/shows/festivals/comedy clubs/food events-a wise move would be to check sites like goldstar.com, groupon.com, eventbrite.com and livingsocial.com…no bs-here, there are tons of discounts/deals out there- you just gotta be smart enough to go and get them!

* Gold Star Events (goldstar.com).

I don’t know about you guys, but every day Jeff Eats gets bombarded with all kinds of “internet” discount-deals…restaurants, manicures, movie tickets, cosmetics, facials, hotels, foot massages, acne treatments, nose hair clippers, parachute jumping lessons, toenail fungus removal treatment…there is literally a “deal” for everything and anything out there in Internet Land. Now don’t get me wrong, Jeff Eats likes to save money- but I gotta tell you, most of the deals “presented” are of absolutely no interest to me whatsoever…

Anyway, to make a long story short…

About a month ago, Jeff Eats started getting emails from a company named Goldstar Events, Inc. (goldstar.com)–which features “deals” on Florida-EVENTS that I (and I emphasize the word I) would actually buy and use…concert tickets, show tickets, theater tickets, comedy club tickets, food event tickets, sporting event tickets, tours, expos…at 50% off face-value!…and every so often- “comp” tickets.

Just so you know, I “used” Goldstar and got exactly what was advertised.

Let me wrap this up for you,

If you want to save some bucks (and who doesn’t!-other than my good friend Nick who for some unknown reason-thinks he is above all this “bargain” stuff) you gotta checkout this goldstar.com site-which services major cities all over the United States.

Printed below is Goldstar’s “description” from its website.

One last piece of business. The nose hair clipper that I got through livingsocial.com was a pretty decent buy!

***** Conway Cafe, 4542 Hoffner Avenue, Orlando, Florida 32812, (407) 240-2524.

If you’re into “mom & pop” diners, then you gotta try Conway Cafe in Orlando.

Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats, Daughter Jeff Eats and Son Jeff Eats recently did breakfast and I gotta tell you, we all loved the joint!

The folks running the Conway Cafe got the mom & pop diner formula down pat- delicious food, big portions, reasonable prices, super pleasant service!

The only problem that Jeff Eats got-with the Conway Cafe, is that it’s in Orlando and Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats’ abode is in Boca Raton- which prevents us from being real steady customers!

Like I said 2.1 seconds ago, Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats, Daughter Jeff Eats and Son Jeff Eats loved the joint which by the way is- open Monday-Friday 6am-2pm, Saturday-Sunday 7am-1pm.

If you work, play, visit Conway Cafe’s neighborhood, make sure you give it a shot!

One (actually I should say two) of Jeff Eats’ favorite menu items…

SIGNATURE 8 CORNER PIZZA

JET’S BOAT

Latest Review: 9/6/15

Jet’s Pizza is a national “takeout” pizza chain. I’m thinking that it currently has something like 350 stores in 17 maybe 18 states.

Last week, Jeff Eats “tried for the first time and took-out twice” from the Jet’s Pizza which opened in Boca Raton-3/15. Night #1 it was the Signature 8 Corner Pizza, Night #2 it was the Signature 8 Corner Pizza with pepperoni and a Jet’s Boat (think calzone and you’ll be thinking right- stuffed with mozzarella cheese, pizza sauce, sausage, pepperoni and topped with butter/Romano cheese- $8.99) and I gotta tell you, the pizza and boat blew me away. No ifs, ands, or buts-one of the best “calzones” that I’ve ever had- as for the pizza, think Sicilian/deep dish and it was absolute dynamite. Just between you guys and Jeff Eats, if Mrs. Jeff Eats let me-do this joint twice in one week, the food had to have killed! Trust me, the lady…before I get in trouble here, let’s just leave it- that the food killed!

Like I said, Jet’s is a national takeout pizza chain. Some stores have seating, the one in Boca Raton -no seating. By the way, there are a ton of Jet’s Pizza joints in Florida- you can check jetspizza.com for locations/menu/info. Just between you guys and Jeff Eats- this Jet’s Pizza is one-hot franchise with a huge number of stores currently In development!

Let me wrap this up for you, that Signature 8 Corner Pizza and Jet’s Boat were terrific. Jet’s also has other types of pizzas, salads, wings, subs- so there is plenty of stuff to choose from.

Look!

Jeff Eats knows his crowd- and right about now, some of you guys must be saying…Hey Jeff, you-losing your freaking mind or what? This Jet’s is a takeout chain and these kind of joints make cheap garbage-so you been smoking or something?

Putting the “smoking” aside for the moment,

Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats LOVED the pizza and the boat…

I’m telling you guys, give this chain a shot!

The Pompano Beach Amp is proud two present two platinum selling artists in one phenomenal show. Billy Ocean and special guest, Taylor Dayne, will be singing all their classic hits at The Amp on Friday, March 17th.

Billy Ocean has collected a pile of Gold and Platinum records across the world and hit the number one spot worldwide on pop charts including the USA, Australia, Germany, Holland, and the UK.

Born in Trinidad, Billy settled in London’s East End when just seven years old. The calypso crazy kid soon got turned on to soul singers like Otis Redding and Sam Cooke, as well as pop groups like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, leading him to spend much of his study time in the music room.

Billy got his first break when he signed to GTO records, for whom his second single was the Motown-ish “Love Really Hurts Without You,” which reached No. 2 in the UK charts and No. 12 in the US.

Two top twenty singles followed; “Love on Delivery” and “Stop Me,” then “Red Light Spells Danger” became a smash in both the UK and the US.

Billy changed record labels and his move to Jive Records provided instant success, with the million selling American number one single “Caribbean Queen” (for which Billy won a Grammy for best R&B Vocal), followed by “Loverboy” and “Suddenly,” which became the first of Billy’s killer ballads. More hits followed including “When the Going Gets Tough,” “They’ll be Sad Songs,” and “Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car.”

After a break to raise his family, Billy went back out on tour and this year releases his double CD, Here You Are, The Best of Billy Ocean, featuring new tracks along with his classic hits.

Taylor Dayne also racked up an impressive list of hits and will be singing all of her top songs including her number one singles “Tell It to My Heart,” “Love Will Lead You Back” and “Prove Your Love to Me.” In addition to her famous ballads, Taylor will be shaking things up with her classic dance songs including her Billboard Hot Dance hits including “Floor on Fire” and “Beautiful.”

Trust Jeff Eats on this one, this joint makes real good stuff!

***** Hong Kong Wok N’ Grill, 185 East Indiantown Road, Jupiter, Florida 33477, (561) 746-6798.

When I was a kid growing up in Brooklyn my parent’s favorite neighborhood Chinese restaurant was Joy Fong’s on Avenue J—now I’m just guessing here, but I’ll bet you that between 1949-1966 (the year Jeff Eats started college) I, my brother, my father and my mother must have eaten in that joint something like 600 times. Now, most non-Jews (the goyim) back then, thought that “us” Jews lit candles on Friday nights—au contraire, “us” Reform Brooklyn Jews were either stuffing our faces in/or getting takeout deliveries from the Joy Fong’s of the world. Back then we didn’t call it Chinese food, we use to say we were going out for C@@@@@—(And you thought that Jeff Eats wasn’t politically correct, didn’t you?) The point I’m trying to drive home here, whether right or wrong, Joy Fong’s “food” is as far as I’m concerned the gold-standard for neighborhood Chinese joint food. Maybe a better way to explain “this”—when I eat matzo ball soup-I compare the ball at hand–in texture, consistency and flavor to the ones that my mother made.

Now that I’ve filled some space and killed some of your time, I recently had dinner at Hong Kong Wok N’ Grill in Jupiter. Now based on my Brooklyn Jewish Chinese Joy Fong’s standards I gotta tell you, this joint makes some pretty good food.

Here’s what I “sampled”—egg rolls, pan fried pork dumplings, bbq ribs, roast pork fried rice, chicken chow mein, sweet & sour pork, general tso’s chicken (no spice), shrimp with lobster sauce. As for the test results, the egg rolls, dumplings, ribs were delicious—same for the fried rice and general tso’s chicken…as for the sweet & sour pork, chicken chow mein and shrimp with lobster sauce–good, but if memory serves me right, Joy Fong’s stuff was better.

Now for the kicker here—in early 1967 my parents, my brother and I discovered Pine Gardens (which morphed into Wong Kee) in NYC’s Chinatown which made Joy Fong’s food look like rookieville. Since Pine Gardens/Wong Kee were so phenomenal, I don’t use “them” as yardsticks, because to this very date, I haven’t found any joint that makes better food.

Let me wrap this story up this way…Hong King Wok N’ Grill is a real good Chinese restaurant. If you live or work in Hong’s neighborhood give it a shot—I enjoyed it and I think you will too.

Hong Kong Wok N’ Grill is open Monday-Saturday 11am-10pm, Sunday 4pm-10pm.

You can check menu/prices at www.hongkongwokngrill.com.
