Every so often Jeff Eats gets asked, “What’s one of your best bbq joints?”

Just so you know, it’s Shiver’s BBQ- the only problem I got with the joint is that it’s in Homestead and Jeff Eats lives in Boca Raton! Trust me, BIG DRIVE!

Long story short, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats “just” finished eating lunch there…bbq babyback ribs, bbq beef ribs, bbq chicken, corn nuggets, cornbread soufflé, sweet potato souffle, corn on the cob, French fries- everything was dynamite!

Jeff Eats first told you guys about Shiver’s on September 18, 2011…like I said earlier, Big Drive!

All I know, if Shiver’s was closer to my Boca Raton home, I’d “literally” be eating in the joint all the time!

Let’s play Southerner…got a great bbq joint for you, Shiver’s BBQ in Homestead. Shiver’s has been around for something like 50 years. Just so you know, we are talking “smoked goods” here—so, if the sweet sauces of Tony Roma’s or Bobby Rubino’s are your game–come prepared! Personally, I’m not a huge smoked-fan…but Shiver’s like the Three Pigs, has the formula for Just Right. You can check menu/prices at www.shiversbbq.com.

Shiver’s got a cute idea going…you eat at long picnic tables which line the joint. So in theory, you “could” be eating with strangers. Over the years, I’ve seen this seating thing done at other joints—Shorty’s B-B-Q in Miami (9200 South Dixie Highway) which has been around since 1951, has a similar setup (see review 7/10/08)…I also remember eating in a few Amish joints in Lancaster, Pennsylvania—they had “group” seating, but also had family style portions—but that’s a whole ‘nother story.

A recent outing had me doing…corn nuggets, macaroni & cheese, cornbread souffle, french fries, babyback ribs, bbq chicken, pulled pork. Let me make this real-simple…Shiver’s BBQ is right-up there with the best bbq joints that- this originally from Brooklyn boy has ever eaten in. Everything was outrageously delicious.

Y’all–Shiver’s is a homerun.

Shiver’s BBQ is open Sunday-Thursday 11am-9pm and Friday-Saturday 11am-10pm.

Watching a Bob Nelson live performance is like watching several different types of top comedians all rolled up into one. Bob Nelson was Rodney Dangerfield’s opening act for eight of the most popular years of Mr Dangerfield’s career. Bob was prominently featured in two of Rodney’s enormously popular HBO stand up comedy showcases, alongside other comedy phenoms like Rosanne Barr and Sam Kineson. That led to two HBO specials starring Bob Nelson, including the ground breaking classic Nelson Schmelson.

Bob won an Emmy Award in Philadelphia for a children’s show he wrote and starred in. Bob has since had supporting roles in Nora Ephram’s directorial film debut This Is My Life with Julie Kavner and Ivan Reitman’s box office smash Kindergarten Cop with Arnold Schwarzenegger. Bob also starred in the Zucker Brother’s Marx Brother’s take off Brain Donors.

From 2006 to 2010 Bob had his own One Man Comedy show in Branson, Missouri. In 2012 he moved the show to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee and performed at the Bob Nelson Family Theatre until 2014. Being a true New Yorker, the Northeast has called him home. His goal is to create a Brand New Comedy Brand on Long Island. Including Shows, Television and creative Social Media endeavors.

For our purposes, we’re gonna call this “tale” A PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT- Latitudes is an absolute must try American-Style breakfast/lunch/dinner joint! Outrageously delicious food, great service, reasonable prices, indoor & outdoor decor/beach views that are absolute off the chart dynamite.

Over the past 8 years, I’m gonna guess that Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats have eaten breakfast/ lunch/ dinner at Latitudes something like 25 times (which includes Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats’ dinner last night- which prompted today’s Public Service Announcement) maybe even more! Like I said a couple of seconds ago, the joint is an absolute must try! Just between you guys and Jeff Eats, Latitudes to my way of thinking “is” Florida!- hopefully that makes sense to you!

I am now going to tell you about an absolutely terrific “American-Style” joint that very few people know about…that is, unless you are a “real local.”

Now don’t get nervous, but I want you to definitely try—Latitudes Restaurant which is located in the Holiday Inn at Highland Beach. This casual (your shorts/tee shirt ensemble will work well here) restaurant is located right on the Atlantic Ocean Beach and has both indoor and outdoor seating. Like I said, it is real casual…but it is a great looking joint and the water-view is amazing.

Latitudes does breakfast-lunch-dinner. Just so you know, this isn’t some-junky overpriced “in-house” hotel restaurant. I have eaten numerous lunches and dinners and I rate Latitudes right up there with some of the best casual-American Style joints in South Florida.

Latitudes’ lunch-dinner menu is loaded with moderately priced appetizers, salads, sandwiches, burgers, meat-seafood-chicken entrees. I am telling you, that its… French onion soup, sauteed yellowtail snapper, shrimp scampi, broiled pork chops, bacon cheeseburger, grilled chicken caesar salad, crab-lobster cakes are top-notch.

This one is an absolute must try…Don’t let the “in” the Holiday Inn address scare you off.

Latitudes is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner 7 days a week.
