***** Charlie’s Mini Donuts & Coffee, 1023 East County Road 540A, Lakeland, Florida 33813, (863) 500-1414.

Got a real good donut joint for you guys to checkout, Charlie’s Mini Donuts & Coffee in Lakeland.

Simple tale to tell, something like 16 different mini cake donuts/coffe/tea menu, order at-pickup at counter, handful of inside tables.

Earlier this morning, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats “discovered” Charlie’s Mini Donuts & Coffee and I gotta tell you that the freshly baked cake donuts were just what the doctor ordered. For you guys who right about now maybe wondering “Hey Jeff, what the hell were you and Mrs. Jeff Eats doing up in Lakeland-on the Monday morning following the long Thanksgiving Day Weekend?” Not that it’s any of your business- but Jeff Eats had an early business meeting with Publix’s CEO Todd Jones at Publix’s corporate headquarters at Publix’s Corporate Office, 3300 Publix Corporate Parkway, Lakeland, Florida 33811.

Anyway, like I said three seconds ago, the mini cake donuts were exactly what the doctor ordered, that’s assuming you’re into cake donuts, which Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats happen to really enjoy with our morning hot coffee. Just so you guys and Jeff Eats are straight with each other, if you’re not into cake donuts, Charlie’s Mini Donuts and Coffee is probably not gonna work for you- because there isn’t a yeast-raised donut insight!

Let me wrap Charie’s Mini Donuts & Coffee by saying that the joint is open Tuesday-Thursday 7am-8pm/ Friday-Saturday 7am-9pm/ Sunday 7am-3:30pm/ closed Monday, that you can check menu/prices/info at charlies-mini-donuts-coffee.business.site and that Charlie’s Mini Donuts & Coffee’s- Snickers Mini Donut is worth the price of admission alone!

***** Bagel Twins, 5130 Linton Boulevard, Delray Beach 33484 (561) 499-1925.

The guy who owns Bagel Twins is a smart guy.

A few years ago, when Bagel Twins was getting ready to open in a shopping center directly across the street from Poppie’s Restaurant & Delicatessen (see review-7/11/08) literally a Delray landmark… I remember commenting to a group of people that, Bagel Twins a bagel-deli joint would have no chance against Poppie’s and would die a fast death…Well low and behold, it’s now years later and Bagel Twins not only survived, but is one of the most popular bagel-deli joints in the area.

Since it opened, I have eaten at Bagel Twins at least 5 times…it does both breakfast and lunch. The joint does an enormous eat-in and take-out business. Its stuff is real good.

Just so you know, Bagel Twins is located in a shopping center which is right next to Delray Medical Center (Delray Hospital)…I got a sneaking suspicion that many of the doctors/ nurses/ workers employed by the hospital/or have offices in the shopping center and their patients are “supporting” Bagel Twins. I never figured, that crossing a little street named Military Trail (that’s what separates Bagel Twins and Poppies) was such a big deal, but I guess that it was/is.

Give Bagel Twins a try…the guy who owns it, makes some good stuff and is real smart.

David Spade:

Nominated in 1999 for an Emmy Award for his memorable role as Dennis Finch, the wise-cracking, power-hungry assistant on “Just Shoot Me,” David Spade became a household favorite during his five-year stint as a cast member of NBC’s “Saturday Night Live.” The comedian was also nominated for a Golden Globe in 2000 and an American Comedy Award in 1999 for his work on NBC’s “Just Shoot Me”.

Spade will next release his memoir, Almost Interesting, through Dey Street Books on October 27, 2015. The book will cover Spade’s personal life and stories as well as his career, spanning from his days on SNL until now.

Spade was most recently seen in the cult classic sequel JOE DIRT 2: BEAUTIFUL LOSER, directed by Fred Wolf, with whom he also co-wrote the script. Spade reprises his role as the hilarious and endearing “white trash” misfit. The film premiered on Crackle’s streaming service on July 16, 2015 and has been streamed more than 2 million times, making it Crackle’s most watched original program to date.

On the big screen, Spade continues to be a box office draw. He was recently seen in Sony Pictures’ GROWN UPS 2 alongside Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, and Kevin James. The film is a follow up to the 2010 hit comedy about a group of childhood friends who reunite years later. Both movies were a financial success, each earning over $200 million dollars worldwide at the box office.

On the small screen, Spade previously starred in the CBS comedy “Rules of Engagement”, which ran for seven seasons from 2007 through 2013. The show was produced by Sony’s Happy Madison Productions and centered around three men in different stages of their relationships: married, engaged, and single. The half hour situational comedy starred Spade as a content bachelor and serial dater and enjoyed excellent ratings and critical success throughout all seven seasons.

In 2012, Spade was heard as the voice of the ‘Griffin invisible man’ in the animated feature, HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA alongside Adam Sandler, Selena Gomez, Steve Buscemi, Kevin James, and Andy Samberg, among others. He will reprise his role in the film’s sequel, HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA 2, which will release on September 25, 2015.

Other popular film credits include Sony Pictures’ BENCHWARMERS and Paramount Pictures’ DICKIE ROBERTS: FORMER CHILD STAR, the latter which he co-wrote with Fred Wolf. Both opened #1 at the box official and enjoyed both critical and commercial success. Spade also co-starred with SNL alumnus Chris Farley in the films TOMMY BOY and BLACKSHEEP, the former for which the pair won a 1996 MTV Movie Award for ‘Best On-Screen Duo’. He has also appeared in REALITY BITES, LIGHT SLEEPER, CONEHEADS, and LOST & FOUND, that latter for which he also co-wrote the screenplay.

On the small screen, Spade has also appeared on “The Showbiz Show” for Comedy Central, which aired from 2005-2007. Spade created, executive produced, hosted and wrote the show along with pal and former SNL writer Hugh Fink. He also had a memorable guest starring role on the critically acclaimed “The Larry Sanders Show” and appeared in HBO’s “13th Annual Young Comedians Special.” He has also had several well-received standup comedy special, most recently his Comedy Central special “David Spade: My Fake Problems”, which was filmed at Hollywood’s Fonda Theater and aired on May 4, 2014.

Born in Birmingham, Michigan, and raised in Scottsdale, Arizona, Spade began his career by performing stand-up comedy in clubs, theaters and colleges across the country. He made his television debut on SNL and was soon after named the “Hot Stand-Up Comedian of the Year” by Rolling Stone magazine. As a writer and a performer on SNL for five years, he is best known for his memorable characters including the sarcastic “Hollywood Minute” reporter on “Weekend Update” and catch phrases like “And you are…?” and “Buh-Bye!”.

What Not To Bring To The Thanksgiving Table

* What Not To bring To The Thanksgiving Table.

Jeff Eats “caught” this one this morning in the Huffington Post…
*****

What Not To Bring To The Thanksgiving Table

Thanksgiving is one of those loaded-for-bear holidays. We overeat, we over-drink, we overwatch football, and speaking anecdotally, we overbook appointments with our therapists for the Monday after. Families, they just do that to you sometimes, you know?

To help get you through the holiday, we have these suggestions of what not to bring to the Thanksgiving table:

1) Your eating habits.
Sure you can skip all the meat dishes, as well as anything with gluten, sugar or nuts, but how about just doing it quietly? Most Thanksgiving tables are laden with enough food to feed a small army, so pick your spots. Just don’t make a big deal about it, OK?

Both you and your mom will feel better if you skip the eye roll when she offers you the turkey drumstick even though you have been a vegetarian since college. Did she just forget, or is she taking a happy walk down Memory Lane when you were a little kid and used to make her promise the drumstick was yours, all yours?

As for everyone else, your hosts have spent a lot of time, energy and money on this feast. In the spirit of the holiday and in recognition of their effort, how about just buttoning up the lecture on why you feel so much better now that you are gluten-free and let the rest of us enjoy the stuffing in peace?

2) A dish without asking.
I like to claim credit for inventing the pot luck, but I suppose sharing the burdens of meal preparation was something the cavewomen came up with. But before you just bring something, please check what your hostess needs. That or she will wind up with four green bean casseroles, as I once did. And damn my kids for liking the one our Alabama guest made better than mine. She opened cans of green beans, cream of mushroom soup and fried onions and just kind of tossed it all together. I’ve never been able to serve my kids the fresh organic bean dish since.

3) A bottle of wine.
Don’t bring a bottle of wine; bring two. One is your contribution to the meal and the other is for your hosts to enjoy later. Bringing a hostess gift is a long-lost tradition that should be revived. Especially if I’m the hostess. Pinot Noir, please.

4) Your sense of entitlement.
Thanksgiving is when we remember what we are grateful for. Make sure that people are grateful for you and grateful you are there. You do that by genuinely being interested in what Uncle Bob has to say, showing real happiness that your cousin just got into a better college than the one you went to, and that your divorced sister just got engaged to a really great guy while the seat to your left remains empty. Adopt an attitude of gratitude for what you have and put all other feelings aside.

5) Your rotten childhood or any other baggage.
Most of our problems don’t start at the Thanksgiving table. And we shouldn’t bring them along. Thanksgiving isn’t the time to ask for money, nor is it the time to point fingers of blame on things in your life that aren’t going so swell. Seriously, save that for Christmas. And remember, you already have the therapist booked for Monday.
