***** McDonald’s Soft Serve Ice Cream Cones.
Another example of someone- making a big deal out of nothing!

NUTRITION INFO: MCDONALDS SOFT SERVE ICE-CREAM CONES

McDonalds Ice-cream cone
Someone recently asked me about the nutrition of a McDonalds soft serve ice-cream aka: ‘McDonalds cone’ and why it was so sweet and nice and only had 150 calories. Could that be true?
From my research, this is what McDonalds states as the correct nutrition for their ice-creams.
Nutrition of McDonalds Ice-cream in a cone: Serving Size: 90 g
Energy: 150 calories
Protein: 4g
Carbs: 24 g
Fat: 3.5 g
The website also states that the ingredients are: Whole milk (protein), sucrose (sugar), nonfat milk solids, corn syrup solids (sugar), mono and diglycerides (fat), guar gum (thickener), imitation vanilla flavour, carrageenan (vegetable thickener), cellulose gum (thickener), vitamin A palmitate (synthetic vitamin A; occurs naturally in dairy)
On a whole, there is nothing too nasty in these cones. It’s the equivalent of drinking a can of softdrink in terms of calories. It just really depends on how many eat, how frequently and what you’ve eaten in the same day.
Here’s some other things to consider:
Fact: 1 teaspoon sugar is approximately 4 grams. Therefore, this ice-cream contains nearly 6 teaspoons of sugar.
Fact: 1 teaspoon of fat is 5 grams. This contains ¾ teaspoon fat.
So scoop out some fat, add 6 teaspoons of sugar, a splash of milk and then thicken it and you have a McDonalds soft serve ice-cream!! Doesn’t sound quite so appealing to me if you think of it that way.
But truthfully, if you have these very occasionally, it’s much better than having a decadent magnum ice-cream. As a tip, if you are trying to watch your weight, consuming a water based ice-block is much better for your waistline and health.
But as always, the health guru recommends: Eat slowly, put your utensils down between bites and stop eating when you feel 80% full because it’s better to waste it than to ‘waist’ it.

Check out Jungle Queen Riverboat which runs day and night “sightseeing” cruises out of Fort Lauderdale.
Just between you and Jeff Eats (I will deny this e-mail response, if you tell anyone!), Jungle Queen Riverboat has a 4 hour early-evening cruise -to an island where you get an all-you-can-eat bbq dinner and a comedy show- for something like 45 bucks a head- and if you check- groupon.com you’ll probably catch a deal- around 33 bucks, that is absolutely terrific…but you didn’t hear this from me!
You can checkout Jungle Queen Riverboat’s sightseeing cruise lineup -at JungleQueen.com. By the way, Jungle Queen Riverboat has been in business since 1935- so I’m thinking that it probably knows exactly what it’s doing!
Have fun and thanks for reading…and remember that Jeff Eats didn’t send you!- I got a “highfalutin” image to protect! If anyone asks, you might want to tell “them” that you read about Jungle Queen Riverboat in the Miami Herald!

The Skipper (sliced turkey/provolone/mayo/tomato/avocado/lettuce/alfalfa sprouts/ranch dressing/crunchy onions) that is totally off the chart!

Like I said before, you wanna eat some great subs, you gotta try this joint!

Got a real-good sub joint for you…The Pink Submarine in Wilton Manors.
You know the deal order at/pickup at the counter…on the décor front, “think” The Beatles’ Yellow Submarine cartoon–and you’ll be on the right page.
Between Jeff Eats, you and the bedpost (ever wonder where this saying came from?) subs shops in South Florida or for that matter the entire United States are literally a dime a dozen (ever wonder where this saying came from?)–what separates “some” from the pack is- the quality/quantity of the ingredients and the bread that those ingredients get stuffed into …with this formula in mind, I gotta tell you that The Pink Submarine makes some of the best subs that Jeff Eats has eaten-here in South Florida.
The other day, Jeff Eats “tried”–a meatball sub (white-$8), a roast beef sub (multigrain-$8), a turkey sub (whole wheat-$8)…and like I said 9 seconds ago, all of the 8″ subs were top-shelf. You can check menu/prices at www.thepinksubmarine.com.
One final thought, the lady who made Jeff Eats’ subs was as pleasant as could-be and had a nice heavy-hand while loading the ingredients.
The Pink Submarine is open Monday-Thursday 11am-7pm, Friday-Saturday 11am-2am, Sunday 11am-5pm.
George Foreman 15 Serving Indoor/Outdoor Grill
* George Foreman 15 Serving Indoor/Outdoor Grill.
Simple and short tale for you guys…
This morning Jeff Eats went to Costco, bought a George Foreman 15 Serving Indoor/Outdoor Grill for 55 bucks- went home-spent 12 minutes on assembly…this evening “cooked up” a load of $2.99 lb beef ribs that Mrs. Jeff Eats bought at Publix- total cooking time 22 minutes…cleanup time, 9 minutes.
Just wanted to let you guys know that this George Foreman 15 Serving Ibdoor/Outdoor Grill kills! No bs, delicious-tasting food and easier to use than any gas or charcoal grill that Jeff Eats has ever had-and trust me, I’ve had a load of them over the years! Now, unless I’m really losing it (which is entirely possible!) the Grill’s “grease-drip-pan” caught a load of grease/fat which Jeff Eats just emptied out-leaving (in this case bbq beef ribs) items less greasy/fatty (what else!) and probably a whole lot healthier to eat!
I’m thinking that you guys may really want to look into George Foreman’s grills…

Microwaving Food in Plastic May Be Hurting Your Health
By Margaret O’Malley

Microwaving in plastic could increase diabetes risk
If you’re about to nuke your leftovers in a plastic container, you might want to dirty another dish. When heated, harmful chemicals in plastic can leach into your food, potentially increasing your risk of high blood pressure and insulin resistance, according to a series of new studies out of NYU Langone Medical Center in New York City. This is concerning because hypertension and insulin resistance, which is closely linked to prediabetes, are risk factors for type 2 diabetes.
According to the latest study, published this week in the journal Hypertension, chemicals, called phthalates, increasingly used to strengthen plastic wrap, soap, cosmetics, and processed food containers have been linked to an increased risk of high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes in children and adolescents.
Ten years ago, two so-called safer compounds were introduced to replace another chemical, called DEHP, which the same researchers had shown in previous studies to have similar negative health effects.
“Our research adds to growing concerns that environmental chemicals might be independent contributors to insulin resistance, elevated blood pressure and other metabolic disorders,” stated study author Leonardo Trasande, MD, MPP, a professor at NYU Langone.
While more research needs to be done, growing evidence supports the need for vigilance when handling and cooking food in plastics. Follow these seven safe and simple rules for using plasticware in your kitchen:
1.Never nuke your food in plastic. If you’re heating up leftovers, transfer them into microwave-safe glass or stoneware — or even a paper plate — to avoid harmful chemicals.
2.Don’t put plastic in the dishwasher. Like microwave heat, hot water in the dishwasher can cause chemicals to leach out of plastic. Instead, gently hand wash plasticware in the sink.
3.Discard plastic that’s warped or edged from overuse. If your plastic looks worse for wear, it’s time to throw it away. Scarring on plastic is a telltale sign that protective layers are worn out, and “suggests higher leaching” according Dr. Transande.
4.Choose aluminum foil or waxed paper over plastic cling wrap. Although foil and waxed paper aren’t microwave-safe, they make good substitutes for storing and packing food to go, and they don’t contain phthalates.
5.Invest in glass storage containers. Reusable glass containers are a safe and economical way to store and heat food and leftovers. Look for options that are both refrigerator- and microwave-safe so you can cool and heat in the same container.
6.Choose bottled drinks and processed foods wisely. Trasande says you should avoid plastic containers labeled with the numbers 3, 6, or 7, which indicate they contain phthalates.
7.Make your own meals using fresh, whole foods. If you’re concerned about blood pressure and diabetes and microwaveable meals are in heavy rotation in your house, ditch them in favor of home-cooked meals. Processed foods are packed with more than just the phthalates in the plastic packaging— their high sodium, fat, and sugar content can contribute to hypertension, obesity, and diabetes as well.
