Rockn’ Angels (Boca Raton)

***** Rockn’ Angels, 7200 North Dixie Highway, Boca Raton, Florida 33487, (561) 327-6314.

Got something I think you guys will really enjoy, Rockin’ Angels in Boca Raton.

For lack of a better “term”- we’re gonna – call Rockn’ Angels a “hole in the wall” dive-bar…full bar inside, tables/hi-tops inside, outdoor patio table seating, tvs, pool table, stage. The joint “seems” to have a perpetual “happy hour” working, all kinds of drink specials, a live music schedule, karaoke nights, poker nights- so forth and so on…

image

Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats stopped in the other night- and the joint was packed-inside and outside…just between us guys, that’s the way a dive-bar is suppose to be- packed! Keep it to yourselves, I’m thinking that Jeff Eats was the oldest person in the joint, with the average age being somewhere around “college” + 4 maybe 5. Hey! Jagger is something like 83 and he’s still running around in his Members Only jacket!

Getting to the jist of the matter, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats eventually got a table and ordered up…Classic Rock Burger, 10 Angel Wings (honey garlic), 1/2 Rack of BBQ Ribs, Bacon Grill Cheese and I gotta tell you, dynamite! Between you guys and Jeff Eats, most people don’t know- that many dive-bars have dynamite food- it’s amazing what some cooks in the back of the house can crank-out from a flat top grill and a deep fryer.

* Battle of the Boros VII.

Jeff Eats wouldn’t exactly call this “concert” a battle- maybe a skirmish!

No-Johnny Maestro, No-Frankie Lymon, No-Carl Gardner, No-Ben E. King, No-Richard Blandon, Yes-Charlie Thomas, Yes-Herman Santiago, Yes-Jimmy Merchant, Yes-Cleveland Still! When you think of the 60’s Yankees-you think Maris, Mantle, Berra, Ford- not Boyer, Lopez, Howard and Turley…Capice!

That said, Jeff Eats has seen all of the “acts” on the bill-and they all-put on a good show!

As I’ve said many times before, you guys aren’t getting any younger, nor are the “oldies” singers of the 50s-60s-70s…so if you “like” this type of music- What are you waiting for? Buy tickets-and Go!

Real simple tale,

You guys gotta try Crabman 305 a “takeout only” seafood/wings/ribs joint in Miami.

crabby 1

Trust Jeff Eats when I tell you, this “hole in the wall” makes some amazingly delicious- stuff. As for the bars/gates on Crabman 305’s door/window- I’m kinda thinking that it doesn’t want ISIS breaking in and “taking” some of the best bbq ribs, fried lobster/shrimp, chicken wings, crab legs that I’ve had in a very-long time!

Got something real good for you guys, Mount Dora Streat Corner…

Jeff Eats is gonna- “describe” this converted gas station as a burger/hot dog/French fries joint- with daily specials like- wood fired pizza, wings, tacos…wait-staff, covered outdoor table/bench patio seating, super reasonable prices.

dora

To be perfectly honest with you guys, if you “eat” like Jeff Eats eats, there is absolutely positively no-way that you can’t but love Mount Dora Streat Corner.

Jeff Eats recently did lunch and I gotta tell you that the Streat Burger ($9.50) that I had blew me away…one of the best grilled-top bacon cheeseburgers that I’ve had in a very-very long time- not to mention the terrific fresh hand-cut French fries that came with it! Just so you know, I also did a $4- 1/4lb all beef grilled hot dog with sauerkraut which came with corn on the cob and like the cheeseburger it was dynamite. If you can keep a secret, my eyes were bigger than my stomach-c’est la vie!

Look! Between us guys, I know a homerun joint when I see one- and Mount Dora Streat Corner is a homerun…the only problem that I got with Mount Dora is that it isn’t even remotely close to where I live- because if it was, I’d be a real good customer!

Let me wrap this Mount Dora Streat Corner joint-up for you- if you live, work, or are anywhere near “it”- eat there!

You can check menu/prices/info at mountdora-streatcorner.com.

Mount Dora Streat Corner is open Sunday/Monday/Wednesday 11am-7pm, Thursday-Saturday 11am-9pm, closed Tuesday.

Real simple tale to tell you guys, The Mick is an amazingly delicious omelet.

Joe’s Diner, 9331 Tamiami Trail North, Naples, Florida 34108, (239) 254-7929.

Let me ask you guys something…

Do you really think that there would be anyway that Jeff Eats would pass-up eating in a joint named Joe’s Diner? Real easy…Nope!

Joe’s Diner has more- faux 1950’s retro checkerboard tablecloths and linoleum tile flooring–than there are Chins in a Chinese phonebook (courtesy Soupy Sales- 1957)–and Jeff Eats loved every red/black and black/white square!

Real simple concept…loads of tables/counter/outdoor patio seating—huge “all day” breakfast menu, salads, sandwiches, burgers, entrees, desserts.

You can check menu/prices and “millions” of décor photos at www.joesdiner.com.

Now- nothing for nothing, Joe’s Diner isn’t trying to reinvent the wheel here! What we got- is a tee shirt/shorts/sneakers-flip flops’ joint that serves real good-food at real reasonable prices–with a bunch of real friendly servers- making for a real pleasant outing.

Based on the fact that Joe’s advertises “Breakfast All Day Every Day!”–Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats did burgers, meatloaf and fried chicken–just fooling, we did breakfast…ordering the Bull Durham omelet, The Rocket omelet, Famous Crunch French Toast and I gotta tell you, that all three dishes were terrific. No fooling here–definitely one of the best breakfasts- Mrs. Jeff Eats and I have had in a very long time. You may- then again you may not- be wondering what was “in-or on” the mentioned omelets and/or French toast–so, let’s make this an inter-active review–and you can check (if you like) www.joediners.com for “ingredients.

Joe’s Diner is a huge winner.

Joe’s Diner is open Monday-Friday 6am-3pm, Saturday-Sunday 7am-3pm.

After starting her career with The Runaways in the ’70s, Ford embarked on a successful solo career, with hits like “Kiss Me Deadly.” Slaughter had several hits right out of the box, including “Shout it Out” and “Fly to the Angels.” Kix went platinum in 1988 with Blow My Fuse featuring the ballad “Don’t Close Your Eyes,” while L.A. Who Has The Best French Fries, Teriyaki Wings, Soft Pretzels, Meatloaf & Cherry Italian Water Ices In Florida?

    * Who Has The Best French Fries, Teriyaki Wings, Soft Pretzels, Meatloaf & Cherry Italian Water Ices In Florida?

AND- you thought your cousin Stan on your father’s side was a strange bird!

A recent e-mail from ANONYMOUS READER IN DELRAY BEACH asked:

Who Has The Best French Fries, Teriyaki Wings, Soft Pretzels, Meatloaf & Cherry Italian Water Ices In Florida? I live in Delray Beach and my uncle who is on Florida State Prison’s Death Row asked me to look into last meal possibilities.

    Thank you in advance,

    ANONYMOUS READER IN DELRAY BEACH
    ________

    ANONYMOUS READER IN DELRAY BEACH:

Your question is kinda impossible to answer. You know- what Jeff Eats likes, you may hate- what I find too soft, you may find to be too hard- so forth and so on!

I will tell you, that if I was on Florida State Prison’s Death Row planning my last meal- I wouldn’t bitch if Zinger’s Delicatessen’s French fries, Burger & Suds’ teriyaki wings, Philly Pretzel Heaven’s pretzels, Granger’s Grille’s meatloaf and Cecilie’s Gourmet Italian Ices’ cherry Italian water ices found their way onto the menu.

One final thought, check with your uncle- as to his thoughts on adding this- Charm City Burger Company burger to the menu…it maybe a bit presumptuous on my part, but Jeff Eats is thinking that at this stage of the game- your uncle probably isn’t into calorie counting or worried about cholesterol counts- so what the heck!

    Thanks for reading.

* Joey and the Rooz.

Real simple tale to tell you guys- Jeff Eats recently saw Joey and the Rooz and the Delray Beach based- 50s-80s pop/rock covers band blew me away. Trust me on this one, the 5 guys in this band really know how to play- and put on a top notch show! The band has only been around for about a year- has 5 seasoned South Florida players and like I said a few seconds ago, these guys really know how to play!

You can check the band out-at businessasusualband.com or on…

YouTube-which had this comment:

***** The Duck Tavern, 5901 North Federal Highway, Boca Raton, Florida 33487 (561) 998-8288.

The Duck Tavern is a “real neighborhood pub”…located in Boca Raton. If you are a fancy shmantzy—don’t bother reading the rest of this review, because this joint isn’t for you. Then again, if you are a regular-person who enjoys the simple pleasures of life…good-reasonably priced unpretentious food and drink, The Duck Tavern has a full bar and a menu of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, wings, pizzas and meat-chicken-seafood entrees that do the trick.

Check The Duck Tavern’s website www.theducktavern.com for menu/prices.

A recent food taste-netted me, sausage peppers & oinions sub ($7.25), chicken parm sub ($7.25), 1/2 lb cheeseburger ($7.25), 8 0z rib eye ($11.95), shepherd’s pie ($9.95)…like I said before, reasonably priced and delicious.

This is a neighborhood joint…if you are a REGULAR PERSON (you decide), I think that you will really enjoy The Duck Tavern

The joint is open for lunch and dinner 7 days a week.
