For our purposes we are gonna call Dragon City Mandarin House Restaurant an “out of sight-out of mind” situation.

If you do some checking (and even if you don’t)- Jeff Eats first told you guys about this Chinese joint on May 1, 2011…the truth be told, I hadn’t been back since…

Long story really short, last night Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats were “down” in Dragon’s neighborhood- and we did dinner- and I gotta tell you that nothing-has changed in 4 1/2 years…the joint’s food still kills!

Last night’s wonton soup, hot & sour soup, bbq ribs, egg rolls, roast pork fried rice, pepper steak, lobster in black bean sauce were absolutely delicious.

Really not too much more to tell you other than- if Dragon City Mandarin House Restaurant was by-my- Boca Raton house, Jeff Eats would be a REAL STEADY customer.

I love good “Brooklyn Jewish” Chinese food. Old Jeff Eats was born in Brooklyn (1949)—with that in mind… to me, a perfect Chinese meal includes dishes “like” wonton/egg drop combo soup, egg rolls, fried dumplings, bbq ribs, roast pork fried rice, sweet & sour pork, General Tso’s chicken, lobster in black bean soup, pepper steak, pistachio ice cream, fortune cookie. Not really into—“real”-“authentic”-Chinese food like, jellyfish, eel, duck tongues, shark fins…Like I said, Brooklyn Jewish is my game.

The other night I had dinner at Dragon City in Hollywood. This joint has dynamite Brooklyn Jewish. It also has real-authentic stuff…so everyone can play here. Just so you know, Dragon’s got TWO menus. One for us Brooklyn guys and one for–shall we say, the adventurous crowd.

If you are looking for fancy schmanzy forget about it. This is a neighborhood Chinese joint. It’s kind of run-down looking…but don’t be a-scared, the food–at least–the Brooklyn Jewish stuff was delicious. To be perfectly honest with you, I couldn’t find even one-dish to bitch about. Sorry can’t comment on the jellyfish or eel because…not my game.

This joint is a homerun.

I’m gonna assume that the “real-authentic” dishes are as good as the phony-Chinese stuff that I stuffed my face with.

Dragon City is open Monday-Friday 11am-3am, Saturday 11am-2am, Sunday noon-2am

* Which One Would It Be?

If you “had” to eat in–just one…Which One Would It Be?

McDonald’s
Wendy’s
Burger King
Checkers
Sonic

By the way, here’s a tip for you guys…Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers (fast food chain with locations primarily in the western states) is planning a major “push” into Florida starting in late 2013. For right now, Freddy’s has no Florida locations.

Trust Jeff Eats on this one, Freddy’s food is dynamite—better than all of the guys listed above, though I will tell you, that it’s a real close call with Sonic. Just for the record, Jeff Eats “thinks” that Sonic is heads-and-shoulders above McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Burger King and Checkers…but please! don’t let my pick-color your picks. For what it’s worth, Jeff Eats thinks of Sonic as being the “child” that Burger King and Dairy Queen always wanted.

Check Freddy’s out at www.freddysusa.com.

Anyway…until Freddy’s arrives-to save the day (“line” courtesy of Mighty Mouse)-pick one from the list. If you got nothing better to do, feel free to elaborate on your pick.

***** Pizza Girls, 114 South Clematis Street, West Palm Beach, FLorida 33401, (561) 833-4004.

Got a real good pizza joint for you guys, Pizza Girls in West Palm Beach.

Real easy concept to explain…handful of tables inside/outside, order at/pickup at the counter, menu loaded with- subs (Pizza Girls calls them heroes), pizza slices/pies, calzones, pizza rolls, salads, wings and a handful of other stuff…By the way, in addition to the Clematis Street joint, the Pizza Girls have a food truck that works Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties-you can peruse Pizza Girls’ menu and food truck schedule at pizzagirls.com.

imagepoloimage

Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats recently did-dinner which netted us…an All Beef Hot Dog Rolled in Mozzarella Cheese & Pizza Dough, a Chicken Parmesan Sub (Pizza Girls calls it a Chicken Parmesan Hero), a Calzone stuffed with Ricotta, Mozzarella & Parmesan Cheese, a Slice of Cheese Pizza and a Greek Salad and I gotta tell you- everything was pretty much right on the money! For those of you who insist on “gory details”- Jeff Eats really enjoyed the cheese pizza- thin/crisp/sweet sauce same for the sub-calzone-salad, could have done without the hot dog! Now, on the other hand, Mrs. Jeff Eats who “rated” everything as being delicious- had the hot dog as her favorite item!- which once again proves Jeff Eats’ point that this food “reviewing” gig is purely a subjective exercise and what I may like, you on the other hand- may hate!- or as the legendary philosopher Sly Stone famously pronounced:

sly

“Everyday People”

Sometimes I’m right and I can be wrong
My own beliefs are in my song
The butcher, the banker, the drummer and then
Makes no difference what group I’m in
I am everyday people, yeah, yeah

There is a blue one
Who can’t accept the green one
For living with a fat one
Trying to be a skinny one
Different strokes
For different folks

And so on and so on
And scooby dooby dooby
Oh sha sha
We got to live together

I am no better and neither are you
We are the same, whatever we do
You love me, you hate me, you know me and then
You can’t figure out the bag I’m in
I am everyday people, yeah yeah

There is a long hair
That doesn’t like the short hair
For being such a rich one
That will not help the poor one
Different strokes
For different folks

And so on and so on
And scooby dooby dooby
Oh sha sha
We got to live together

There is a yellow one
That won’t accept the black one
That won’t accept the red one
That won’t accept the white one
Different strokes
For different folks

And so on and so on
And scooby dooby dooby
Oh sha sha
I am everyday people

THE NYSE GUYS (Century Village- Deerfield Beach)

Posted on October 26th, 2015 · Deerfield Beach Music/Events/Other · No Comments »

* THE NYSE GUYS.

Jeff Eats has been a huge- NYSE GUYS’ fan for years. Absolutely love these guys. Three first class-lead singers who “cover” the greatest hits of the 40s-50s-60s-70s.

The reason for today’s mention- saw them the other night at the Boca Black Box in Boca Raton and once again The NYSE Guys blew me away with 2-hours of great vocals/audience patter…so Jeff Eats thought he would share that…

THE NYSE GUYS’ next scheduled “public” show- Century Village, 2400 Century Blvd, Deerfield Beach, FLorida 33442, (954) 421-2556 on Saturday Night, November 28, 2015 at 8pm…if you’re a Century Village Resident- tickets are $10, if you are a Non-Resident- tickets are $15…tickets can be purchased at cveevents.com.

Trust me on this one, if you like the music of the 40s-50s-60s-70s, then you will love The NYSE Guys!

Just in case you need some convincing as to how good these guys really are…

THE NYSE GUYS

Willie, Peter and Chas are The NYSE GUYS — a three-man vocal group from Orlando. The trio performs Motown, Oldies, Doo-Wop… featuring the hits of Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons,
Neil Diamond, The Beach Boys, Dion & The Belmonts, Jay & The Americans and plenty of “Rat Pack” tunes with their own twist. With their three different and distinct vocal styles, each sings solo, duet and then accent it with some very smooth three-part harmonies.
