Lux Burger (Coral Springs)

***** Lux Burger, 11012 Wiles Road, Coral Springs, Florida 33076, (954) 908-2227.

Got a real good hole-in-the-wall hamburger joint for you guys…Lux Burger in Coral Springs. Order at/pickup at the counter. The joint is basically a “takeout”- unless you consider 5-seats a full blown eat-in restaurant!

Lux Burger’s menu is printed down-below. According to the joint’s owner, Lux uses a “Cryo Frying” technique to make its burgers (the owner’s “explanation” of “Cryo Frying” follows the menu)! Just between you guys and Jeff Eats, I hear the words cryo and liquid nitrogen in the same sentence, I’m thinking Ted Williams’ severed head, but that’s just me!

Anyway,

Long story short, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats recently “utilized” 2-out of the 5 seats- doing a 12oz. Lux Burger, Lamb Burger, French fries, strawberry/vanilla shakes and really enjoyed the food! By the way, the burgers come with in-house-made potato chips. Not sure if cryo-schmyo is the reason- but the burgers all had a real-nice firm/crisp outside and were super juicy inside. Like I said before, hole-in-the-wall and Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats really enjoyed the food.

Lux Burger is open Monday-Thursday 11am-9:30pm, Friday-Saturday 11am-10pm, closed Sunday.

Established in 2015.
New Take on an Old Classic. Our Cryo Burger is cooked using a little known culinary technique known as Cryo-Frying. This involves cooking our Burgers sous-vide (temperature controlled water bath), and then submerging them in liquid nitrogen for a few seconds. What this does is rapidly freeze the outside of the burger while keeping it still warm in the middle. We then place the burger into hot oil, which crisps the outside and seals all the juices into the burger without overcooking the center or absorbing the frying oil.

Little River Band

Little River Band was the first Australian band to successfully conquer foreign markets from an Australian base. Within eight months of their birth, LRB had already scored three Australian Top 20 singles and two Top Ten albums. In 1976, after their self-titled debut album was released in the USA, the long grind of 13 US tours in eight years had begun.

From Portland to Fort Lauderdale and New York to LA, fans of the band are treated to an entertaining mix of classic songs and new material, delivered as always with that trademark blend of impeccable vocals, soaring harmonies, kick-ass playing and the unmistakable feeling of a band really enjoying itself.

2015 marks the band’s 40th Anniversary, keeping alive the enduring appeal of recognizable and powerful classics, as well fresh new rock/country crossover hits.

Ambrosia

Exploring the possibilities of progressive classical and world influences, yet rooted with the soul of the blues and R&B, Joseph Puerta, Christopher North, David Pack, and Burleigh Drummond created a new sound that was defined and recognized as Ambrosia. In its brief recording history, Ambrosia garnered 5 Grammy Nominations, 5 Top 20 singles, heavy FM airplay, and the admiration and respect of the musical community. All this is in addition to several sold out concerts around the world.

Today the band is more alive than ever. The band recently rocked the The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon show with accolades from Jimmy himself and has shown its musical versatility with the ability to play a prog set of music with Yes and Genesis or glide into their pop hits “How Much I Feel and Biggest Part of Me” with a romantic soul.

Player

In January 1978, Player had an international number one hit with their first single: “Baby Come Back”, which was co-written and sung by Beckett. The self-titled album went platinum and the band toured extensively. Four albums followed rendering four more top forty singles, including “This Time I’m In It For Love”, which reached number ten on Billboard’s chart. Player started performing again in the year 2003, always featuring an all star line-up, which has included at various times members of The Cars, REO SpeedWagon, Foreigner and Little River Band.

Band member Peter Beckett has written hit songs for many artists including: Heart, Olivia Newton-John, Kenny Rodgers, The Temptations, Poco, Janet Jackson, The Commodores, Cliff Richards, Survivor, Grace Slick, and more recently Vanessa Hudgens of “High School Musical” fame.

Between the years 1989-1997, Peter was a featured member of The Little River Band and has written several singles for them. Peter and Ronn were part of Sail Rock 2013 and toured the country with Christopher Cross, Orleans, Firefall and many other great musicians. In 2014, the entire band toured Australia and appeared on national TV shows like General Hospital and Home and Family.

***** Ellie’s 50’s Style Diner.

Recent e-mail from reader Linda James.

Jeff,

We are recent transplants from Princeton, New Jersey. My husband and I both recently retired and moved to be near our grown kids in Delray Beach. We both love diners and from reading Jeff Eats you seem to see things as we do. What do you suggest in Delray Beach/Boynton Beach area? We wouldn’t mind retro 50s-60s style.
Thank you very much,
Linda James

Ellie’s 50’s Style Diner (Delray Beach)

***** Ellie’s 50’s Style Diner, 2410 North Federal Highway, Delray Beach, Florida 33483 (561) 276-1570.

Ellie’s name says it all…a 1950’s diner. It’s not a real 1950’s relic, but when you are inside you’ll really enjoy the fountain-counter, booth seating, formica tables, juke box and black and white checkerboard floor…not to mention a full diner menu that is loaded with appetizers, soups, salads, burgers, sandwiches, meat-fish-chicken entrees…there also plenty of ice cream, pies and cakes.

Ellie’s food is DINER FOOD…This is not a gourmet restaurant. Over the years, I have eaten at Ellie’s something like 10 times. Great place for a greasy burger (meant as a compliment) and french fries…tuna fish on rye toast…meatloaf…hopefully you get the picture.

Take a look at Ellie’s website at www.elliescatering.com for menu/pricing/and a virtual tour of the joint.

By the way, attached to the “diner” is a full catering facility…I have been to two catered affairs, one was a 1950’s themed 50th birthday party for 100 and the other was a wedding for something like 150 and both parties were sensational.

Ellie’s does breakfast, lunch and dinner…Sunday-Thursday 8am-9pm and Friday-Saturday 8am-10pm.

If you wear saddle shoes you will look real stupid…but tee shirt/shorts will be just fine
