Real simple game…

Just be the first reader to “identify” the famous 1950s-1960s Rock N Roller pictured below!-And I’ll send you a $25 gift card!

For you guys who don’t “know” Green’s Pharmacy, the joint has been around since 1938 and is a drug store-diner combo! America had tons of these joints during the 1930s-1960s! Trust me on this, today (2015) Green’s Pharmacy is one of but a handful- left…so it’s really kinda cool to see-and eat in! Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats have been eating there for years…Green’s food is dynamite and the retro-feel is really cool!

Let me start by saying, THAT YOU HAVE TO TRY GREEN’S PHARMACY.

Green’s Pharmacy has been in business since 1938. If you check the history books, you will find that during the 1920s-1960s America’s landscape was dotted with drugstore-diner combinations (bet you didn’t know that I could sound so poetic). Rather than beating around the bush, Green’s is a “throw-back” in time with the same decor/combination it had when it opened 68 years ago.

Green’s is open 7 days a week for breakfast & lunch, Monday-Friday 7am-4pm, Saturday 7am-3pm & Sunday 7am-2pm.

Just so you know, Green’s is not just a “great photo shoot.” Terrific breakfasts, burgers, sandwiches, salads and ice-cream are the “real attraction” here. Personally, I enjoy “dining” at its 30 seat counter, but its 20 or so tables will allow “you” to spread-out a bit, if that’s your preference.

Green’s is a great place. Just imagine, that after you have eaten a delicious well-done cheeseburger, ketchup-soaked french fries and a chocolate milkshake, you can also buy your choice of Tums, Rolaids, Pepcid Complete, Alka Seltzer or Mylanta to “complete” a perfect meal.

Don’t miss this joint. It is worth a special trip.

Basilico’s is a combination takeout/eat-in “red sauce” Italian joint. You order/pickup at the counter- there are a whole bunch of inside and outside tables. Basilico’s got the full boat- of pizzas, pastas, calzones, salads, stombolis, hot/cold subs, entrees. Trust Jeff Eats on this one, for cheap money you’re gonna eat real good! I singled out the joint’s calzone for special mention, but I’m telling you everything is real good!

Last night, Jeff Eats took-out from red sauce Italian joint… Basilico’s Original Hand-Tossed Pizza in Wellington. and I gotta tell you, this restaurant makes some really delicious stuff.

Real simple concept, order at the counter/takeout…or the food is delivered to something like 6 inside booths/handful of outside tables. By the way, the restaurant is located in a very quaint cool looking “New England” style strip-center…which also has a Chinese joint, a Dunkin’ Donuts, an ice cream store, a custom cake- making store, a liquor store–you won’t think- you’re in Florida! Real interesting, in addition to ice cream and yogurt-the ice cream store sells fresh orange juice quarts/gallons-candy by the pound, and has a whole area for fresh flowers…the Chinese joint which is basically a takeout has 4 large 6- seat booths-for those who want to eat-in. Like I said 1 second ago, the strip center has a real different feel to it!

Anyway…

Jeff Eats “got to” Basilico’s around 6:30pm last night and there was something like 8 guys behind the counter making pizzas etc. and 2 young ladies at the register. In the 25 minutes or so that I waited for my order, every booth inside was taken and I watched numerous pickups and phone orders being taken…I didn’t notice anyone eating outside.

Basilico’s menu is loaded with appetizers, salads, pizzas, pastas, strombolis, calzones, hot/cold subs, entrees. You can check its menu/prices at basilicospizza.com.

Ordered items included large 16″ pizza ($9.99), Chicken parmesan sub ($7.99), sausage & peppers stromboli ($6.79), eggplant parmesan entrée (pasta side/garlic breadsticks- $10.59) and like I said 3 seconds ago, the stuff was really delicious.

Look!

Jeff Eats has been to his fair share of red sauce Italian joints down here in south Florida and- this Basilico’s joint is a huge winner. The food was really-solid, the prices CHEAP (I believe I’m suppose to say inexpensive or very reasonable)-trust me, Basilico’s gives you a ton of food for cheap-money-and the food isn’t crap quality!

Let me wrap this up for you, if Basilico’s was by my house (which unfortunately it isn’t) Jeff Eats would definitely be a very steady customer.

Basilico’s Original Hand-Tossed Pizza is open 7 days a week

***** Zinger’s Delicatessen, 7132 Beracasa Way, Boca Raton, Florida 33433, (561) 826-7323.

No more than 34 minutes ago- at the intersection of Yamato Road and Lyons Road in Boca Raton-Jeff Eats saw a gigantic tractor trailer unloading a load of cars-with New York and New Jersey license plates. To save the owners of those cars- the time and effort of writing Jeff Eats, I am reprinting “Pastrami, Corned Beef, Brisket- My Man!”- which appeared on November 17, 2014.

Now, just between you guys and Jeff Eats, we all know that “food reviewing” is nothing but one huge game! What I like you may hate and vice versa! So with that in mind, I’m gonna tell you, that Jeff Eats considers Zinger’s Delicatessen in Boca Raton to be the best full service NY Kosher Style Deli in-South Florida! For sure, I haven’t been to “every” deli or bagel joint down here- but trust me, I’ve fressed in my fair share-and “I” haven’t found “one” that’s better or as consistent as Zinger’s is! Just so we are straight with each other, Jeff Eats has eaten in a number of other really good South Florida- NY Kosher Style Delis/kosher delis/and bagel joints but if I had to pick just one-to provide food for Jeff Eats’-“Death Row Deli Last Meal” it would be Zinger’s. Now, if for some reason Zinger’s doesn’t work for you (i.e. too far away, too cheap, too expensive, Jeff Eats knows-dick about pastrami/corned beef/brisket), etc.), I got a ton of “stories” on other joints- so nobody here is gonna starve!

***** Pastrami, Corned Beef, Brisket- My Man!

A recent e-mail,

Jeff,
Maybe you can help me out here.
I’m new to the area (Delray Beach).
I’m looking for a place to get great corned beef, pastrami, brisket sandwiches like they serve at Katz’s in NYC. Not interest in the Natioanl Deli garbage that Too Jays and bagel joints serve up.
Would really appreciate some recommendations.
Thanks,
MY MAN
*****
MY MAN:

First, welcome to South Florida.

If you check JEFF EATS-up at the top there is a SEARCH BOX…type in PASTRAMI, or CORNED BEEF, or BRISKET- (you may also want to throw in DELI-for good measure) and it will pull-up for you all of the “columns” that relate to pastrami, corned beef, brisket. If memory and my waistline serve me correctly, you’ll find a load of joints that make some pretty decent stuff.

Just so you know, Jeff Eats’ style isn’t to be in the pecking order business. What I might like, you might not like, so forth and so on! With that in mind, IF I had to pick ONE JOINT-near you- to feed my face with Pastrami, Corned Beef and Brisket it would be ZINGER’S DELICATESSEN in Boca Raton…now, if Zinger’s doesn’t work for you- don’t worry, there are a load of other joints that will fix-you up just fine!

By the way, based on your e-mail, I’m thinking that you’ll soon be “writing” Jeff Eats about good-Chinese joints. So, save the ink…use the same SEARCH BOX for my “picks”-you know, sweet & sour pork, egg rolls, pan fried dumplings, so on and so forth…

Hope this helps you out.

Here’s a heads-up for you guys…

Spadini’s Pizzeria literally just opened (like 2 days ago) in the Cove Shopping Center in Deerfield Beach.

Long story short, Spadini’s use to be in Boca Raton. Not sure of the details but a “falling-out” with its Boca Raton landlord- resulted in Spadini’s closing its Boca Raton location a few months ago- and moving/building a new pizza joint in Deerfield Beach.

Like I just said, the joint just opened- Jeff Eats hasn’t been there yet! I’m hearing both inside and outside table seating- real-real casual!

I’m thinking that the NEW location is gonna be as good as the OLD location, so I’m thinking that you definitely want to try Spadini’s!

Some of Jeff Eats’ Spadini’s (Boca Raton) write-ups are printed down below.

Trust Jeff Eats when I tell you, unless something very seriously goes wrong (which I seriously doubt)- the NEW- Spadini’s is gonna be serving up some of the best pizzas, pastas, subs, salads and other Italian stuff that you’ve eaten down here in Florida!

Jeff Eats got plans to checkout Spadini’s sometime during the next two weeks, so I’ll report back to you guys!

Not trying to be repetitious or nothing, but do yourself a solid and try this joint- its food is (or should I say, should be?) off the chart neighborhood Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, Manhattan, “The” Bronx delicious- and that’s no bs!

You can checkout Spadini’s menu/prices at spadinispizzeria.com.

Spadini’s Pizzeria is open Monday-Thursday 11am-10pm, Friday-Saturday 11am-2am, Sunday noon-8pm.

A year ago today-Jeff Eats told you guys about Spadini’s Pizzeria a terrific pizza-joint which had just “opened” for business in Boca Raton.

One year later, Spadini’s is chugging along doing- both a huge takeout/eat-in business.

Over the past year, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats must have taken-out at least 15 times and each and every time- the pizza, subs, entrees were all right on the money.

Anyway,

Last night Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats decided to eat-at Spadini’s ordering- a 16″ cheese pizza (Wednesday Special -$8), an eggplant parmigiana entrée and a veal parmigiana hero. The eggplant and veal stuff were delicious–AND THE PIZZA WAS SIMPLY AMAZING. In talking with owner -Tom Sellick, he advised that a few weeks ago he had replaced his pizzas’ white flour with Japanese breadcrumbs and the pies/slices were getting rave customer reviews. Just so we are straight with one another- white flour, Japanese breadcrumbs “it’s all Rock n Roll to me”- all Jeff Eats can tell you, is that the pizza was awesome.

Let me wrap this up,

You guys gotta try Spadini’s Pizzeria. The subs, pastas, entrees are delicious AND THE PIZZA IS SIMPLY AMAZING!

***** Spadini’s Pizzeria (Boca Raton)

Early this morning, Jeff Eats told you guys about Spadini’s Pizzeria, 134 Northeast 2nd Avenue, Boca Raton, Florida 33432, (561) 826-7420. The jist of that “article” was that Jeff Eats had heard terrific things about this relatively -new pizza joint (it opened in February 2013) and had “plans” to give it a shot in the near future. That original article is down below.

To make a long story short…

Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats decided to take food out tonight.

Items ordered… chopped salad (large $9.50), 16″ plain pizza (Wednesday Night Special $8), chicken parmigiana hero ($9.95), sausage & peppers hero ($8.95), penne alla vodka ($11.95)…and I gotta tell you, everything we had was delicious. A special shoutout to the pizza—let’s just say, that Spadini’s knows how to make a real New York Slice—thin crust, delicious sweet sauce, great tasting mozzarella. By the way, the heroes were big enough to feed two people–and featured a really tasty-lightly toasted bread.

Spadini’s Pizzeria is an absolute “hole in the wall”—a few tables inside and even fewer outside. You order at the counter/you pickup at the counter.

Based on the food that Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats “had”—Spadini’s is right up there with the best “mom & pop” red sauce joints in sunny South Florida.

You can check menu/prices at www.spadinispizzeria.com.

Finally, Spadini’s has a whole bunch of “specials”—like $8- 16″ pizzas on Wednesday and buy 2 heroes and get 1 free on Monday…so “ASK” what “deals” are on the table-before you order…Capice!

*****

Nothing for nothing…

Jeff Eats is hearing amazingly-fabulous-incredible “things” about a relatively new Boca Raton pizza joint…Spadini’s Pizzeria.

Just so we are straight with each other, Jeff Eats hasn’t gotten to the joint yet, but at least 7-maybe 11 or maybe it was 13 people (who have eaten there) told me that this “hole-in-the wall” turns out some of the best New York Style pizza/subs/other stuff that they have had- since migrating down here from Brooklyn, New York– Montclair, New Jersey–Hartford, Connecticut– Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania– Cortland, New York–Chicago, Illinois.

Being a top notch “reporter”- this morning Jeff Eats called Spadini’s Pizzeria and spoke to its owner 31 year old Thomas Sellick. Sellick told me that he has lived in South Florida for about a year and prior to coming down- he learned his “craft” working in his family’s Northport, New York (for those who don’t know, that’s part of Long Island) pizza joints. He told me that he opened for business on February 7, 2013—just so you know, Sellick bought out Mizner Plaza Pizza (reviewed 11/28/12), 134 Northeast 2nd Avenue, Boca Raton… did a drop of cosmetic surgery—and with new recipes and menus in hand re-opened as Spadini’s Pizzeria. Sellick told me that he has the same seating as Mizner Plaza had-that being a handful of tables inside and a handful outside. He also said-the joint works on an “order at the counter/pickup at the counter” system–but if you “want” he or one of his “guys” will bring the food over to your table.

Anyway…

Like I said, Jeff Eats is hearing terrific things about Spadini’s Pizzeria. If you get there before I do, I’d apprecaite hearing your thoughts.

You can check Spadini’s website www.spadinispizzeria.com for menu/prices/photos/other stuff.

Spadini’s Pizzeria, 134 Northeast 2nd Avenue, Boca Raton, Florida 33432, (561) 826-7123—is open Monday-Saturday 11am-11pm, Sunday noon-9pm.

The 64,000 Dollar Question:
Are the opinions of the folks from Montclair, Hartford, Pittsburgh, Cortland and Chicago-to be trusted on what consitutes top-notch New York Style pizza? We “know” that the Brooklyn folks are qualified, but-the others?—Jeff Eats is just asking!

Crazy Wok is a Chinese takeout joint. There are 2- locations, 1-in Coral Springs, 1-in Fort Lauderdale (2392 North Federal Highway)- this “story” is about the Coral Springs’ location.

Real simple story…

Last Saturday night, Jeff Eats was over-by my friend Peter’s house watching football…we ordered some Chinese stuff from Crazy Wok. We picked-up the food and Peter caught the bill…hey! it’s his house…you eat by me, I pickup the bill!

To make a long story short, we did wonton soup, egg rolls, boneless spare ribs, pan fried dumplings, General Tsao’s chicken, moo shu beef, roast pork fried rice…and I gotta tell you, the food was right on the money. Now you know and Jeff Eats knows that this food-reviewing gig is purely a subjective game. What I like you might hate and vice versa. You also do know, that what I might find sweet, you may find bitter-so forth and so on. That’s why, I very rarely kill time, telling you-what something tastes like! Suffice it to say, (as they say in internet land— imho) Crazy Wok turned out some really delicious “American” Chinese food. For those of you-looking for “real” or shall I say “authentic” Chinese food-like West Lake Fish in Vinegar Sauce (yeah-I know it sounds absolutely amazing!) you can cross Crazy Wok off-your list.

Finally…good free food, good company and a win by my University of Arizona Wildcats…made for a very pleasant evening.

One last thought, some of you guys may be wondering…If Jeff Eats went to Ithaca College and Brooklyn Law School and Mrs. Jeff Eats went to Brooklyn College…then how does the U of A work its way into the conversation? Easy, Son Jeff Eats went to U of A and Daughter Jeff Eats went to University of Connecticut- thus the RELATIONSHIPS…very expensive RELATIONSHIPS but RELATIONSHIPS nonetheless! Now that I look back, why these two scholars couldn’t- go to school in-state, is beyond Jeff Eats’ comprehension- we’ll save that discussion for another day…

If you live or work in Crazy Wok’s neighborhood…you now know about a real-good Chinese takeout joint.

You can check menu/prices at crazywok.com. The site has a handful of discount coupons that you can print out.

Crazy Wok is open 7 days a week 10am-11pm.
