Posted on May 26th, 2016 · American BBQ Davie Deals Doral Miami · 2 Comments »

* Shorty’s Bar-B-Q Memorial Day Appreciation Offer.

Jeff Eats has been “eating” at Shorty’s for years…delicious food, pleasant service, big portions, reasonable prices. Shorty’s currently has 4- South Florida locations.

If this story- applies to you, Jeff Eats is thinking that 15% is kinda on the light side- but as they say in Ithaca, New York- better in your pocket than theirs!

You can check shortys.com for locations/menu/prices/info.

By the way, Shorty’s website has a bunch of coupons- this “way” everyone in your party can save a few bucks!-which when you really think about it, isn’t such a terrible thing!

***** Shortys-Bar-B-Q, 9200 South Dixie Highway, Miami, Florida 33156 (305) 670-7732.

Shorty’s is a South Florida bbq-chain…Its original location on South Dixie Highway has been around since 1951…Shorty’s website is www.shortysbbq.com …check the site for locations/menu/pricing.

Shorty’s Bar-B-Q is a terrific-casual restaurant… the menu is loaded with delicious appetizers, sides and top-notch pork/beef/chicken bbq…big portions at really reasonable prices. In the South Dixie joint, “you” sit at long tables next to total strangers…at the other 6 locations, Shorty’s gives “you” your own table or booth…that’s called progress.

Over the years, I must have eaten in the Dixie Highway location at least 10 times. Most recently, I have been eating in Shorty’s Deerfield Beach store which opened about 1 year ago. Same delicious food…same portions…same prices…booth and table seating…By the way, the Deerfield Beach joint (if I have read all of the locations’ menus correctly) is the only Shorty’s that has bbq beef ribs…I have to tell you, that those beef ribs are not just good, but are fantastic…why Shorty’s doesn’t have them in its other stores is beyond me.

Like I said before, Shorty’s is a casual joint…be prepared to get really messy in this joint, because the bbq sauce is all over the place…Shorty’s has plenty of paper towels…

Shorty’s is open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner.

Bark at the Park (Mets v. Marlins- Marlins Park- Miami)

* Bark at the Park.

Jiggy Eats is a Red Sox’s fan (go figure, the boy was born in Tucson)…

Anyway,

The last time I took Jiggy to a Marlins’ game it literally cost me a fortune- he “ordered”-2 hot dogs with mustard, a large Coke, a bag of peanuts, an ice cream sandwich and a large popcorn- I also had to buy him a Marlins’ cap and tee shirt!- and I’m not gonna get into the ‘fight” he had with another fan over a foul ball that to this very day- Jiggy “claims” he chased down!

Just so you know, 5 minutes ago, Jeff Eats mailed a $25 check to the Human Society of Greater Miami!

Every Comic Has a Dark Side.
A place where thoughts of control become overwhelming and one starts killing. Are you next? DIE LAUGHING a Bob Golub Film. From Goodfellas and Howard Stern
DIE LAUGHING is a full length feature film about a stand-up comic, serial killer. It is shocking and graphic, yet funny as hell. It has the makings of modern day cult classic.
Amazingly enough, it was all done on a zero dollar budget.
Bob Golub is a true industry professional having worked for over 30 years in film, television, and as an active touring stand up comic. If you haven’t caught his comedy act then you have probably seen him on a number of national commercials, Howard Stern not to mention a feature role in the hit classic Goodfellas. His latest independently film Die Laughing, about a stand up comic serial killer, is a macabre journey into the world of a comedian that occasionally has to get real from time to time. Shocking and graphic yet funny as hell it may quite possibly be the next cult classic. Amazingly enough, it was all done on a zero dollar budget.
Bob Golub is the quintessential realized American dream. Poor kid from a family of ten, leaves a one-movie theater Pennsylvania steel mill town and through sheer fortitude and drive becomes a headlining comedian and movie actor. Producer and Director. Loves the Steelers

Real simple, Jeff Eats has been eating at Jimmy The Greek Taverna for years. The joint definitely has- one of the best gyros in South Florida. Actually, everything that this joint makes is delicious. Jimmy The Greek Taverna does lunch and dinner and has a real-loyal following-so don’t be surprised if you gotta wait to get a table!. The restaurant is in a miniscule strip center, so set your GPS-this way you won’t get lost or nothing!

***** Lily’s Cafe, 8031 South US Highway 1, Port Saint Lucie, Florida 34952, (772) 237-5549.

Lily’s Cafe is a “mom & pop” neighborhood diner that does breakfast/lunch Tuesday-Friday 7am-3pm, Saturday-Sunday 8am-2pm, closed on Monday. You can check menu/prices at www.lilycafefl.com. The site also has a handful of pictures which will “tell” you as to exactly what you are getting into here. Not really sure how to explain this, but there are mom & pop diners and then again, there are MOM & POP diners. For the record, Lily’s Cafe is a MOM & POP…remember- those movies from the 30s and 40s where some kids would yell, “hey, let’s put on a show”?

Anyway…Lily’s is a fabulous joint, imagine your mom and your aunts making and serving the stuff. For you wiseguys out there, my mom was a tremendous cook and my aunts though not in her league also got the job done. Just to go off on a tangent for a minute–when I see restaurant signs/menus boasting “home cooked” food, my mind always says whose “home.” All I know, is that back in Brooklyn in the 50s and 60s I had a friend Michael R. whose mother was the worse cook maybe in the world, well at least Brooklyn—I guess that’s why Michael R. use to “run away” from home so often.

I recently ate at Lily’s…the menu isn’t huge-but there is enough breakfast stuff, soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers, wraps, pies/muffins–so nobody’s gonna go without eating. I tried the french toast, western omelet, chicken salad wrap, patty melt (burger, swiss cheese, grilled onions–on rye toast), french fries. Trust me here, everything was delicious. If I had to put the stuff in-pecking order…the french toast was terrific, the omelet-wrap-melt were also terrific but not as terrific as the french toast was, the french fries were good but weren’t terrific. Now if memory serves me correctly, my mom’s french toast didn”t come close to Lily’s, same for her chicken salad (mom use to add chopped dill pickle to the mix, never really liked that!)–mom never made western omelets- but she did make a mean scrambled eggs with American cheese/ham, her patty melt was as good as the one Lily’s dished up, Lily’s and mom’s french fries were a total tossup (too bad Nathan’s wasn’t my mom or dad or whatever!).

The final result, “assuming” that there really is a Lily back in the kitchen–Lilymom, I’m home from college!!

Lily’s Cafe is a homerun!
