* Kansas- New Years Eve.

The Mardi Gras Casino in Hallandale Beach just announced that it’s going to have KANSAS in concert (10:30pm) this coming New Year’s Eve!

Just between you guys and Jeff Eats- I don’t know too many people (as matter of fact, I don’t know any, including myself and Mrs. Jeff Eats) who are gonna “wake up” one morning saying, I gotta go see Kansas on New Years’ Eve”- but maybe your’e one of those people that I don’t know!

So…

Tickets/Info: mgfla.com

With a legendary career spanning more than four decades, KANSAS has firmly established itself as one of America’s iconic classic rock bands. This “garage band” from Topeka released their debut album in 1974 after being discovered by Wally Gold, who worked for Don Kirshner, and have gone on to sell more than 30 million albums worldwide.

Composing a catalogue that includes fifteen studio albums and five live albums, KANSAS has produced eight gold albums, three sextuple-Platinum albums (Leftoverture, Point of Know Return, Best of KANSAS), one platinum live album (Two for the Show), and two one million-selling gold singles, ‘Carry On Wayward Son’ and ‘Dust in the Wind.’ KANSAS appeared on the Billboard charts for over 200 weeks throughout the ’70’s and ’80’s and played to sold-out arenas and stadiums throughout North America, Europe and Japan. ‘Carry On Wayward Son’ continues to be one of the top five most played songs on classic rock radio, and ‘Dust In the Wind’ has been played on the radio more than three million times!

2016 marks the release of “The Prelude Implicit,” KANSAS’s fifteenth studio album. The wide-ranging progressive rock album is released on InsideOut Music, and marks the band’s first studio album release in 16 years.

The band, which is currently comprised of original drummer Phil Ehart, bassist/vocalist Billy Greer, keyboardist David Manion, vocalist/keyboardist Ronnie Platt, violinist/guitarist David Ragsdale, guitarist Zak Rizvi, and original guitarist Richard Williams, continues to perform in front of large and enthusiastic audiences around the world.

Along with constant touring, KANSAS continues to remain a fixture of Classic Rock radio. The band has reached a whole new audience through their unmistakable presence on the popular video games Rock Band and Guitar Hero, and through their songs’ inclusion in various television shows such as ‘Supernatural,’ and ‘South Park,’ and with films ‘Old School,’ and ‘Anchorman.’

* Burger Beast Museum Grand Opening- 12/2/16.

Jeff Eats kinda knows that most of you guys won’t-be-dropping-everything to run there, nor will the Burger Beast Museum be on too many “bucket lists”- that said, next time you’re at the Magic City Casino playing/eating/concert going- the Burger Beast Museum sounds like something you may want to check-out!

Nostalgia and history served at the Burger Beast Burger Museum

The Burger Beast Burger Museum will open Dec. 2 at Magic City Casino in Miami. The museum is filled with vintage memorabilia of all things fast-food from South Florida and beyond.
Johnny Diaz Johnny DiazContact Reporter
Burger Beast Burger Museum is an ode to alll things fast-food from South Florida and beyond. It opens Dec. 2 @

Walk into this museum and you may just get hungry. Really hungry, for some nostalgia.

Wrappers and boxes from classic Whoppers and Big Macs fill display cases. Vintage uniforms from Wendy’s and McDonald’s adorn mannequins.

Ash trays, collectible drinking glasses and menus from former local and national chain restaurants such as Red Barn, Sambo’s and Wuvs also have a home here at the new Burger Beast Burger Museum at Magic City Casino in Miami.

The 1,500 square-foot space, which opens Dec. 2, houses a vast assortment of fast-food and restaurant memorabilia collected by South Florida food blogger Sef Gonzalez, also known as Burger Beast.

“I want people to kind of relive their youth and look back on this stuff. I’ve had people come in and say ‘I remember going to eat with my family at this restaurant’ and they tear up,” said Gonzalez, who stored 4,000-plus items in his northwest Miami office before trucking the bulk of his collection to Magic City. “But I also want people who were not around then to learn something about the past.”

The museum is an extension of Gonzalez’s love of burgers and their history. He was working as a retail manager in 2008 when he began burning out and feeling frustrated.

“My wife said, ‘Oh why don’t you start writing about places that you like to eat,’ ” Gonzalez recalled of the birth of his Burger Beast blog, which focuses on burgers, fried food, hot dogs, desserts and food trucks. “She came up with the name, Burger Beast.”

But it wasn’t until a friend gave him a sign from an old Burger Chef restaurant that Gonzalez developed an insatiable curiosity about long lost and still around burger joints.

South Florida’s best burgers
Here are some of the best burger joints in South Florida. From traditional beef patties to ones with elk meat, topped off with everything from caramelized onions to fried cheese curd, these restaurants sure know how to dress a burger.

Follow SouthFlorida.com on Twitter, Facebook and Snapchat. (Talia J. Medina, Barbara Corbellini Duarte, Phillip Valys, Marian Liu)
“Burger Chef started it and then I got into [collecting] McDonald’s and Burger King,” said Gonzalez, who scoured eBay, Craigslist and garage sales for hard-to-find items. “Yes, I have a problem,” he said with a guffaw. Over the years, people donated name tags, cups and other items to his collection.

“It’s like capturing my childhood,” said Gonzalez, who grew up in Westchester in southwest Miami-Dade County. He remembers eating at different restaurants on Thursdays with his family when his mother would get out of work early from her office job. One of his favorites was Burger King because there weren’t many McDonald’s nearby.

“[At Burger King] I started off with one cheeseburger, then two cheeseburgers. I always did no pickles and then I graduated to a double cheeseburger and then just a cheeseburger,” he recalled fondly. That was when cashiers wore floppy golden and brown hats and repeated orders on microphones.

In addition to his blog, Gonzalez organizes food-related events such as the Hamburger House Party and his Croquetapalooza at Magic City Casino. His relationship with the casino led to establishing the museum there, which took about a year to build.

The museum is thick with South Florida nostalgia and slices of history. Did you know that there was a Burger Castle chainstarted by Charles Krebs, Burger King’s first franchisee in Miami? Or that Kentucky Fried Chicken had a spinoff called Kentucky Roast Beef and Ham? Or that Red Barn burger chain was based in Fort Lauderdale in the 1960s?

Visitors could get lost marveling all the items on display at the burger museum. There’s a giant figurine of Officer Big Mac from McDonald’s and one of the infamous Hamburglar. A framed black and white photo from the first Royal Castle in downtown Miami. Gonzalez even has a corner table for two from a Wendy’s with a framed photo of late founder Dave Thomas.

Gonzalez is still adding the final touches on his museum. The documentary “Hamburger America” will play on a loop in front of a dining booth. He is also building a chicken coop to hold items (a portrait of Colonel Sanders for instance) from fried chicken eateries.

“I think Miami is so fast to tear things down here that they don’t do a good job of holding on to a bit of the history,” added Gonzalez. “If I am able to do that at least a little bit for people, that would be cool.”

The Burger Beast Burger Museum opens Dec. 2 at Magic City Casino, 450 NW 37th Ave., Miami. Admission is $10 adults and $5 for children. For more information, burgerbeastmuseum.com.

Since its founding in 1968 by Jon Anderson and Chris Squire, YES has created much of rock history’s most important music, including iconic pieces like ‘Roundabout,’ ‘Close to the Edge,’ ‘I’ve Seen All Good People,’ “Owner of a Lonely Heart,’ ‘Starship Trooper,’ and countless others. Let’s call Salvatore Pizza “an out of sight, out of mind” mom & pop- red sauce- Italian joint…

First told you guys about Salvatore Pizza on November 10, 2014- hadn’t been back until last night’s “drama” dinner with Mrs. Jeff Eats, Daughter Jeff Eats and Son Jeff Eats. Why such a long hiatus between visits?- Salvatore Pizza’s Hialeah location and Jeff Eats’ Boca Raton abode aren’t exactly “next door” to one another. Why the “drama”?- As I’m sure it’s the same with your family- That’s the $64,000 question!

Long story short, this joint’s food is off the chart delicious. You live, you work, you play in Salvatore Pizza’s neighborhood- you gotta give it a shot!

***** Salvatore Pizza, Pasta & Subs, 1550 West 84th Street, Hialeah, Florida 33027, (305) 821-7016.

Got a real good one for you…Salvatore Pizza, Pasta & Subs in Hialeah.

First things first,

You guys know and Jeff Eats knows, that “mom & pop”-red sauce Italian joints are a dime a dozen down here in South Florida. No ifs ands or buts, almost every dumpy-strip center has one of them. For the record, we also know-that these strip center pizza joints aren’t solely- indigenous (I did go to college)- to South Florida, all 50 states got them…

Anyway,

Jeff Eats and a couple of buddies recently had lunch at Salvatore Pizza and I gotta tell you, I loved the joint.

When you check Salvatore Pizza’s menu at salvatoreinhialeah.com, you’re gonna find the expected full-boat of appetizers/pizzas/pastas/subs/salads/calzones-stromboli/entrees/desserts.

Jeff Eats and Buddies Jeff Eats ordered…veal parm sub (8″-$9), meatball sub (8″-$7), large plain pizza (16″-$11), calzone ($13) and I-must tell you, Salvatore Pizza killed it! No fooling here, everything was delicious.

Now, you guys know that Jeff Eats really isn’t into lists or rankings, but the- calzone stuffed with ricotta/mozzarella/romano cheeses definitely deserved a special shout-out! So- HELLO CALZONE!!

Nothing fancy going on at Salvatore Pizza. Solid and I do mean SOLID pizza joint stuff.

Like I said 4 seconds ago, Jeff Eats loved Salvatore Pizza.

The perfect Jeff Eats’ lunch…red sauce galore, loads of Coca Cola, good friends, plenty of napkins and no Mrs. Jeff Eats’-drama… bitching about- how I was stuffing my face, hadn’t taken a “lactose” pill and how I would be up all night gagging from indigestion.

Salvatore Pizza, Pasta & Subs is open Monday-Thursday 10am-10pm, Friday-Saturday 10am-11pm, Sunday noon-10pm.

* Joseph’s Classic Market.

Take a look at this e-mail that Jeff Eats received the other day.
*****
Jeff Eats,

My family (me, my husband and 2 teenagers) just moved into our new home in the Broken Sound Country Club in Boca 2 weeks ago. My husband and I were born and bred 5-Towners.

I like shopping at Publix but find Whole Foods and Fresh Market overpriced and borderline disgusting. I also like shopping in The Boys Market in Delray but their parking lot and narrow aisles are a scary proposition. I am also not a fan of Doris Italian Market in Boca. Its good for baked goodies but the rest of its stuff is not too good.

I was turned onto jeffeats.com by a neighbor who swears by you. She said that you have great restaurant picks and you really have an ear to the ground as to what’s doing here in south Florida.

Can you recommend a really good specialty supermarket to me? Hopefully it will be close to where I live as I’m not that good on driving I-95 or the Turnpike.

By the way, your Nino’s Italian Restaurant and Chris’ Taverna picks were terrific.

Thanks again.

Welcome to South Florida.

Reprinted below is a Jeff Eats’ “story” date June 22, 2009 on Joseph’s Classic Market. Joseph’s currently has 1-location in Boca Raton and 1-location in Palm Beach Gardens.

Trust Jeff Eats on this one, Joseph’s Classic Market won’t disappoint you. By the way, the Boca Raton joint is about 5-minutes away from your home.

June 22, 2009.
***** Joseph’s Classic Market, 5250 Town Center Circle, Boca Raton, Florida 33486 (561) 347-2314.

Unitl yesterday, I had never heard of Joseph’s Classic Market…anyway, this “upscale” food-market has three locations…Boca Raton, Palm Beach Gardens and Royal Palm Beach.

Today, I gave the Boca Raton location a “shot”…the joint has 9,200 square feet and opened on June 11, 2009.

I gotta tell you, that this Joseph’s joint is terrific…fruits/vegetables, baked goods, prepared foods, meat-seafood counters, pizza/sub counter, fresh juices, wines, salad bar…it even has outdoor seating for those who want to eat right-then-and-there.

At this point of the discussion, I would suggest that you check Joseph’s website at www.josephsclassicmarket.com for locations/menu. The store is neat and clean… the food is beautifully presented…the staff is sharp…and amazingly, the prices are neighborhood supermarket prices…a pound of chicken salad runs $7.99…a whole roast chicken goes for $5.99…a quart of fresh squeezed grapefruit juice $2.50.

Take it from this born and bred Bohack and Waldbaums’ boy…you will be impressed with Joseph’s Classic Market. The food in this joint “looks” absolutely incredible…a sampling of roast chicken, pizza, chicken salad, tuna salad, bbq ribs… all delicious. The breads, pastries and cakes are made-in-house…and the “prepared food” (heavy on the Italian stuff) will have you drooling on the display cases.

The joint is open Monday-Saturday 8am-8pm and Sunday 8am-6pm.
