Gallagher has led an extroardinary life, with an even more spectacular career. His fanbase is one of the most loyal there is, and he rewards them every chance he gets. Now on the Jokes on you tour!

* “Zinger’s Delicatessen–1 Year Anniversay”

About a year-ago, I told you guys about Zinger’s Delicatessen which had just opened in Boca Raton. One year later–some things bear repeating…

Zinger’s Delicatessen is one of the best, if not the best–New York Kosher Style Deli in South Florida.

I have “reprinted” Jeff Eats’ August 18, 2011 review…and it needs “only” three minor changes:
1: Zinger’s is open 7 days a week for lunch/dinner and for breakfast on Saturday-Sunday,
2: Zinger’s “current” potato knishes are as good as the pushcart-ones I mentioned.
3: Zinger’s website is up and running.

If real New York Kosher Style deli is you game, you gotta try Zinger’s Delicatessen!

***** Zinger’s Delicatessen, 7132 Beracasa Way, Boca Raton, Florida 33433, (561) 826-7323.

If, delicious- New York Kosher Style Deli is your game—you absolutely, positively have to give Zinger’s Delicatessen in Boca Raton a try.

For you fressers out there…Zinger’s in a “former” life, was Pastrami Queen (see 9/12/08 writeup)…to make a long story short, family “matters” resulted in Pastrami Queen closing in late 2010. This past Tuesday, Zinger’s opened for business—for our purposes, SAME OWNER!–NEW “NYC” DECOR!–SAME TERRIFIC FOOD!

Last night I ate dinner at Zinger’s.

Zinger’s is located in the exact-spot where Pastrami Queen was. Gary Zinger who owned Pastrami Queen is Zinger’s owner. The restaurant’s layout hasn’t changed, but the decor has…let’s just say, that stainless steel walls/ceiling and art-deco signage rival the best-deli decor here and in NYC. The joint has 3-flat screen tvs and a takeout counter that will make you want to quit Weight Watchers.

Let’s talk food…

To be perfectly honest with you, I seriously doubt that there is a better New York Kosher Style Deli down here in South Florida. I’ll even go so-far as to say, Zinger’s Delicatessen can easily hold its own with legendary players like NYC’s- Carneige, Stage, 2nd Avenue and Katz’s delis…if you aren’t a native Nooo Yoorker, please feel free to insert your hometown favorite delis’ names.

Just so you know, I was a Pastrami Queen “regular”…so, it was absolutely impossible to eat-at Zinger’s, shall we say incognito. The meal was “on the arm” with Gary Zinger literally having me “try” everything in the joint. Take it for what it’s worth, the pastrami, corned beef, brisket, turkey off the bone are as good as it gets. The joint also makes- delicious, potato pancakes-chopped liver-tuna salad-chicken salad-matzoh ball soup-smashed French fries-Italian beef sub.

Just so we are straight…don’t want you to think that I’m a Zinger’s shill—I’ve eaten better potato knishes—like the ones I, my father and brother Andy use to get in 1958 from the pushcart stationed right outside of Fortunoff on Livonia Avenue in Brooklyn while waiting for my mother to finish shopping.

Trust me on this…Zinger’s is a homerun.

Like I said before, I tried a load of stuff. I will tell you, that the sandwiches being delivered to the tables were nice-sized… I didn’t see one group leave without a doggy bag… and no one bitched to Gary about the service/prices.

Zinger’s website is www.zingersdelicom. The site is currently under construction, so give it some-time to get up and running.

Zinger’s does breakfast, lunch and dinner…The joint is open 7 days a week 7am-10pm.

Moose Munch Dark Chocolate Popcorn & Moose Munch Totally Caramel Popcorn.

Yesterday, Jeff Eats picked-up these 2- 10oz packages at Home Goods, 1350 Linton Boulevard,
Delray Beach, Florida 33444, (561) 266-0124 paying $4.99 per package!

The truth be told, the popcorns’ clever names and packaging suckered me into trying them…

All I can say,

Meh!
(Wikipedia: Meh For the Singlish word, see Singlish vocabulary. For other uses, see MEH (disambiguation). Meh (/mɛ/) is an interjection used as an expression of indifference or boredom. It may also mean “be it as it may”.[1] It is often regarded as a verbal shrug of the shoulders. The use of the term “meh” shows that the speaker is apathetic, uninterested, or indifferent to the question or subject at hand. It is occasionally used as an adjective, meaning something is mediocre or unremarkable.[2])

Pink Buddha Chinese Restaurant…”mom & pop” joint loacted in Davie, Florida.

Brooklyn-Jewish Taste Test circa 1959—wonton soup, egg rolls, roast pork fried rice, bbq ribs, fried dumplings, sweet & sour pork, mu shu pork, general tso’s chicken—let me make this one short and simple, everything was delicious. Especially enjoyed the ribs and general tso’s chicken.

Pink Buddha has been around for something like 15 years and as “expected” is located in a bombed-out strip shopping center.

You can check menu/prices at www.pinkbuddhachinese.com.

Pink Buddha is right up there with the best “mom & pop” Chinese joints that I’ve tried down here in sunny South Florida.

Pink Buddha is open Monday-Thursday 11am-10pm, Friday-Sunday 11am-10:30pm.

***** ABC Chinese Restaurant, 1919 West Hillsboro Boulevard, Deerfield Beach, Florida (954) 421-8720.

Not bad, not bad at all.

Neighborhood joint, that has real-decent food…You know the drill…soup, appetizer, entree, rice, dessert…for something like $7.99.

ABC passed last week’s “taste test” of wonton soup, fried rice, egg roll, bbq spare ribs and General Tso’s Chicken. I have been eating in this joint for years- and haven’t had even one bad meal. Very nice people run ABC. By the way, ABC is located in the back of a strip-center, so you really have to look for it.

Open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner.

It’s the day before Christmas- Jeff Eats knows that a whole bunch of you guys- me included, are gonna be eating a ton of Chinese food over the next 2-days 🙂 – that said, here’s a real good Chinese joint for you guys in Miami!

Merry Christmas!

***** Wei’s Long Gong Chinese, 11920 Southwest 8th Street, Miami, Florida 33184, (305) 553-4644.

Look!

Jeff Eats is a simple (left myself open there, didn’t I?) guy-who was born in Brooklyn in 1949. I was raised on “American” Chinese food…you know- wonton soup, bbq ribs, steamed dumplings, roast pork fried rice, egg rolls, sweet & sour pork, General Tso’s chicken, pepper steak, chicken chow mein, shrimp in lobster sauce with a drop of black bean sauce mixed in, pineapple chunks, vanilla/strawberry/chocolate/pistachio ice cream, fortune cookies. Like I said, I’m a simple guy!

Long story short,

I got friends-my age- who were born in Brooklyn, who for some reason think that- the “American” Chinese food we all grew up on-is now beneath them…when they eat Chinese, they have to have- REAL CHINESE stuff like…pepper salted quail, lambchoy minced with green bean, spicy fish with tofu, yam in sour sauce.

Being a pretty easy going guy, Jeff Eats is willing to try almost any restaurant “recommended” by friends to “accommodate” friends.

With the above in mind, Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats and three “former” Brooklyn couples recently- did Wei’s Long Gong Chinese. Real simple- the wonton soup, egg rolls, steamed dumplings, General Tso’s chicken, roast pork fried rice, shrimp in lobster sauce with a drop of black bean sauce mixed in- were all delicious. I have absolutely no idea how the pepper salted quail, lambchoy minced with green bean, spicy fish with tofu, yam in sour sauce- tasted…but Jeff Eats’ Brooklyn friends said to tell you, these dishes were terrific. By the way, the pineapple chunks and the fortune cookies-were, pineapple chunks and fortune cookies!

Trust Jeff Eats with this one, Wei’s Long Gong Chinese’s “American” Chinese food is very-very good…if this joint was in my neighborhood, I’d be a real steady customer. Just a gut call, but I’m thinking that you guys who like REAL CHINESE FOOD will also- really enjoy Wei’s Long Gong Chinese.

You can check menu/prices at weislonggong.com.

Wei’s is open Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday 11:30am-9:30pm, Friday 11:30am-10pm, Saturday 11:30am-11pm, closed on Tuesday.

* The Dot Explained!

If you’re “into” political correctness, you need not read further!

For centuries, Hindu women have worn a dot on their foreheads. Most of us have naively thought this was connected with tradition or religion, but the Indian embassy in Ottawa has recently revealed the true story.

When a Hindu woman gets married, she brings a dowry into the union. On her wedding night, the husband scratches off the dot to see whether he has won a convenience store, a gas station, a donut shop, a taxi cab, a yogurt store or a motel in the United States. If nothing is there, he must remain in India- call himself Andy and answer telephones providing us with Verizon technical support.

***** ROK:BRGR, 208 Southwest 2nd Street, Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33301, (954) 525-7656.

Let me start by saying, that I loved ROK:BRGR—an upscale hamburger joint, which opened about six weeks ago in Fort Lauderdale. I suspect, that Only- seriously committed vegetarians are gonna have a problem with this joint. Check www.rockbrgr.com for menu/prices/pictures.

Just so you know, BURGERS are the primary game at this cool looking- 1920’s brick pub decor/full bar joint. That said, ROK also has a “nice” handful of comfort items like mac ‘n cheese, chili, meatloaf, blts and a few salads, so no-one in your party is gonna be pissed off.

My 10 oz. bacon cheeseburger with hand cut french fries ($10) was absolutely off the chart. Same, for the mac ‘n cheese ($8)–sweet potato fries ($5)–onion rings ($6)–meatloaf ($14) that I “sampled.”

I am telling you, the food was delicious. ROK has a real cool look, reasonable prices and the service is as pleasant as can be.

To sum it up, WINNER!!!

ROK is open Sunday-Thursday 11:30 am-2am and Friday-Saturday 11:30am-4am.
