***** Sara’s Kitchen, 2000 PGA Boulevard, Palm Beach Gardens, FLorida 33408, (561) 540-2822.

First things first, Jeff Eats first told you guys about Sara’s Kitchen on 2/28/09- at that time, the terrific breakfast/lunch joint had literally been open -5 weeks in Lantana. Shortly thereafter, a dispute with its landlord resulted in Sara’s Kitchen closing and reopening in October, 2009 at its current address, 2000 PGA Boulevard in Palm Beach Gardens!

Long story short, until this morning when Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats, Daughter Jeff Eats and Son Jeff Eats did breakfast “there”- Jeff Eats hadn’t been back to Sara’s Kitchen since that 2/28/08 story first appeared!

Real simple…Sara’s Kitchen is one of the best breakfast/lunch joints Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats, Daughter Jeff Eats and Son Jeff Eats have eaten in here in Sunny Florida!

Trust Jeff Eats, delicious food, terrific service, huge portions, reasonable prices make Sara’s Kitchen a breakfast/lunch joint that you guys must-try!

Sara’s Kitchen is open Monday-Friday 7am-3pm, Saturday-Sunday 7am-2pm.

Got something absolutely terrific for you guys, SOHO Donut Company…a takeout joint that makes outrageously off the chart- delicious donuts and sandwiches. For you guys who insist on eating-“there”…a couple of tables inside/a couple of tables outside.

A recent “order” had Jeff Eats doing…glazed donut cheeseburger, philly cheese steak sub, grilled cheese & bacon donut, a mixed dozen of classic donuts, a mixed dozen of fancy donuts and like I said 1.231 seconds ago, outrageously off the chart- delicious donuts and sandwiches. For you wise guys out there, there were 2-other guys with Jeff Eats- so no, I didn’t eat everything all by my lonesome!

Jeff Eats loved SOHO Donuts Company!

The joint is open Tuesday-Friday 6:30am-6pm, Saturday 8am-6pm, Sunday 8am-2pm, closed Monday.

You can check tampadonuts.com for further SOHO info.

***** Applebee’s, 15058 Jog Road, Delray Beach 33433, (561) 865-8757.

Got a good story for you guys…

Last night Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats and another couple ate at the Applebee’s located at 15058 Jog Road, Delray Beach. I’m assuming that you guys know what “an” Applebee’s is…if not, American Style -national chain with a full liquor bar/tvs, tons of reasonably priced appetizers, salads, sandwiches, burgers, wings, entrees, desserts.

Anyway,

Prior to last night, the last time Jeff Eats had eaten in an Applebee’s was September 8, 1998. The reason that I remember that date, I was in an Applebee’s (1720 South Federal Highway, Delray Beach) and watched Mark McGuire hit homerun #62 breaking Roger Maris’ record. We’ll leave McGuire’s steroid story for another day.

Now nothing for nothing, back in 1998 Jeff Eats didn’t exist-it wasn’t until 2006 that I “decided” that you guys needed to know -what, where and how I ate. So other than the-homerun I really don’t remember the “actual” 1998 meal. In addition, for the life of me, I can’t figure out why 1998 was the last time I ate at Applebee’s.

To make a long story short,

Very dear friends, Norman and Lynne swear by this chain. In addition to an apartment in North Miami they have a home in Belmont, North Carolina and an apartment in New Paltz, New York.–over the past 25 years -their numerous road trips have literally had them in Applebee’s all over the place.

Last night the four of us ate in Applebee’s and I gotta tell you- the food, service and reasonable prices blew me away. No fooling here-the house salads, bbq grilled wings, grilled chicken wontons/tacos, cheeseburger sliders, bbq ribs, grilled sirloin steak, french fries, onion rings, mashed potatoes, mozzarella sticks, white brownie/vanilla ice cream, pub pretzels with caramel sauce were all delicious.

Trust Jeff Eats on this one, no ifs ands or buts- last night’s “American Style” meal was one of the best I’ve had in years. To be perfectly honest with you, the food ran circles around most of the stuff served in South Florida’s sports bars–Not to start a pissing match or nothing, but chains like The Cheesecake Factory, Chili’s, Friday’s, J Alexander’s got nothing on Applebee’s.

On service-when we walked in, we were actually greeted by a pleasant- energetic hostess. Sammie our waitress knew the menu-cold making some great recommendations and made sure our glasses were never empty. One other thing, Jeff Eats notices things and I gotta tell you that George (GM) was all over the joint- visiting tables, chatting with customers, helping/bussing tables-doing what a GM is suppose to do, that being staying on top of his restaurant. Trust Jeff Eats on this, I’ve seen many a GM in action (or shall I say inaction!) and this guy was good-real good…The restaurant was real-busy, yet the service/food were all “handled” as they were suppose to be.

On the price front-real reasonable…check www.applebees.com for menu/prices/locations.
I will tell you, that Applebee’s gives you a ton of food for the money. When you’re on Applebee’s website checkout its- 2 eat for $20 or $25 deals.

Like I said 37 seconds ago, Applebee’s is a national chain. This “story” is about the Delray Beach Jog Road restaurant-that said, there are plenty of Florida locations for you to eat at.

Applebee’s is open Sunday-Thursday 11am-10pm, Friday-Saturday 11am-11pm.

In closing, Norman and Lynne you were so right…Jeff Eats should have gotten “back” sooner.

Applebee’s is dynamite!

***** Earl Of Sandwich, 10300 West Forest Hills Boulevard (Wellington Green Mall), Wellington, Florida 33414 (561) 296-1762.

Earl Of Sandwich is a small fast-food chain that specializes in sandwiches (that makes sense), wraps and salads. There are currently 8 locations, 3 of which are located in Florida….Tampa, Wellington and Lake Buena Vista.

Take a look at this joint’s website at www.earlofsandwichusa.com for menu/prices/hours/locations and other details.

Like I said before, right now Earl Of Sandwich only has 8 locations…The odds say, that you have never heard of this chain. I will tell you, that the Lake Buena Vista joint is located in the Downtown Disney Marketplace and another is located in Las Vegas’ Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino so “the word” is definitely going to spread about this chain.

As for the food…now keep in mind, that Earl’s is a fast-food…order/pickup at the counter joint…the food is heads and shoulders above the Subways and most of the sandwich/salads/wraps joints that dot the malls and strip centers of America. I have eaten at both the Wellington (2 times) and Lake Buena Vista (3 times) joints… the meatball, roast-beef and grill cheese sandwiches are as good, if not better than the ones that your favorite sub joint or diner makes. By the way, these 2 locations are not located in food-courts…they are separate restaurants with their own entrances and seating…I don’t know the setups of the other 6 locations.

As previously mentioned, the Lake Buena Vista joint is located at the Downtown Disney Marketplace. I think that if you look-up the term “goldmine” in your dictionary, you will find a picture of this particular Earl location. All 3 times that I was at this joint, there were lines out-the-door…Location, location, location combined with delicious food, fast counter service, great looking old-English decor and very reasonable prices is the name of the game there.

Earl’s location in the Wellington Green Mall is open Monday-Saturday 10am-9pm and Sunday 11am-6pm.

***** Hurricane Grill & Wings.

If you guys check, back on 6/6/08, 4/28/10 and 2/18/11 Jeff Eats did “stories” on Hurricane Grill & Wings…In a nutshell, the write-ups talked about food and in large part about a Customer Loyalty Rewards Program that was a dismal failure. If you like, you can review those stories–as to my “thoughts” back then-about the wings/burgers/salads that this chain served up–as well as the loyalty system employed.

Anyway…

Last night, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats had dinner at the Hurricane Grill & Wings located in Boca Raton. Long story short, friends of ours were “heading” back-up to New York this morning and Hurricane Grill was a convenient spot to meet at-before they started their trip.

Not going to discuss the current state of the chains’ Loyalty program…I will tell you that the salads, wings, cheeseburger sliders and key lime pie that we shared were all- right on the money. Suffice it to say, we enjoyed the food and the service was good-despite the fact that the joint was packed to the rafters with kids–because something like -Balloon Lady Night was going on.

The main reason I am telling you about this “outing” -is that I noticed a flyer on one of the doors advertising a “free” Tom Petty Tribute Show…when Jeff Eats asked the GM about the band, he indicated that every Saturday night, the Boca Raton restaurant and the Hurricane Grill & Wings in Wellington have live bands performing. In Boca-an out door tent is set up in the parking lot next to the restaurant and in Wellington the bands play inside—

So…

You guys now know where you can catch some good wings/burgers/salads–and enjoy some live music while you eat.

The suggestion here is to check Hurricane Grill & Wings’ website www.hurricanewings.com for South Florida locations/menu/check dates-bands performing.

One final thought, the Boca Raton and Wellington locations are owned by the parent company–others in the area are franchised joints…the point, the franchises may or may not have “live” music-so it pays to check what’s-what with them.

Just so you know-Hurricane Grill & Wings currently has 6-Florida outposts–Boca Raton, Boynton Beach, Palm Beach Gardens (2), Wellington, Royal Palm Beach.

Got a real good fast food- Mediterranean/Middle Eastern/Greek/Glatt Kosher joint for you guys- Sunrise Pita & Grill in Sunrise.

Simple concept at work here, order-pickup at counter, table seating…

Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats and a couple of friends recently did a late lunch- and I gotta tell you that Sunrise Pita & Grill’s food was absolutely delicious! Throw in super pleasant service, reasonable prices, nice sized portions and the fact that not one person in our party, including Jeff Eats mentioned that the joint closes early on Fridays-is closed on Saturdays-that you can’t order a cheeseburger there-and that you don’t have to be a yeshiva bocher to eat there, spells winner in Jeff Eats’ book!

Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats loved Sunrise Pita & Grill which is open Sunday-Thursday 11am-10pm, Friday 11am-3pm, closed Saturday (but you knew that already)!

Posted on August 5th, 2008

***** Panda Express, 970 North Congress Avenue, Boynton Beach, Florida 33426 (561) 375-8637.

Unless you have been living under a rock…you know what a Panda Express is…For you rock-dwellers, Panda is a national chain of fast-food Chinese joints. If you check Panda’s website at www.pandaexpress.com you will find that most of its locations are in Mall-Food-Courts…the website will also provide you with menu/prices/and other assorted details.

Now…I am going to let you in on a little secret. One of Jeff Eats’ favorite “Sunday Afternoon South Florida Outings” is to drive 26 miles from my home to Sawgrass Mills and kill 3 hours while Mrs. Jeff Eats and family shop. Before I snuggle into a Books A- Million armchair to read, I religiously “sample” all of the free food-passings in the food-court before I mosey over to Panda’s outlet and order Orange Chicken, White Rice, Egg Roll and a Large Coke…you get a ton of food for under 7 bucks. For some reason, I find that Chinese food drenched in MSG tastes absolutely great when you eat it in a food-court setting.

Now…for the really great news. Panda Express has recently “evolved” from being just a mall-food-court outlet into being a fast-food joint with in-line- locations in strip centers and free standing buildings.

The other day, I tried an in-line Panda Express which recently opened in Boynton Beach…same menu and prices as the Sawgrass Mills’ joint…same MSG…by the way, there is a Barnes & Nobles right across the street from the Boynton location, so if I had wanted to do some after-eating reading I could have done so.

Panda Express has locations all over South Florida…just off the top of my head, I know that in addition to the Boynton and Sawgrass joints there are outlets in Coral Gables, Davie, Homestead, Miami, Miami Gardens, Pembroke Pines, Sunrise…

Like I said before, I really enjoy Panda’s mall-food-court quality food…some people say that I am a reincarnated truck driver ( no insult intended to the truck drivers of the world).

If you are like me and “go” for this kind of food, I guarantee that there is a Panda Express near your home or office.

In a future writeup I will discuss my fanatical obsession with Auntie Anne’s Pretzels…but for now, that’s a story for another day.
