Chocolate Babka is a sweet, swirly, brioche-meets-cake loaf rooted in Eastern European Jewish traditions. Trader Joe’s Chocolate Babka, made for us by a small, kosher bakery in Brooklyn that quite literally grew out of a grandmother’s kitchen, truly lives up to its namesake. It doesn’t get much better – or more authentic – than this! (To be fair, authentic may well be in the eye of the beholder, and the type of babka you grew up eating is likely the one that seems the most authentic to you.)

Our Chocolate Babka is crafted from scratch, in small batches, using a sweet yeast dough that’s covered with a rich chocolate filling, and twisted by hand before being placed in a high loaf pan to be proofed and baked. The generous application of chocolate reveals itself as swirls in the finished product when the Babka is sliced. Enjoy it as a snack in the afternoon with a cup of coffee or tea. Serve it for dessert with ice cream and fudge sauce (okay, not so authentic), or slice it at breakfast time and make a Chocolate Babka French toast to intrigue and astonish your guests.

We’re selling each 18 ounce Chocolate Babka for $4.99, a price that’s sure to intrigue and astonish all who make its acquaintance. You’ll find it in our bakery section.

I’m trying to figure out if the chocolate Babka from Trader Joe’s is made by Green’s Bakery in Brooklyn NYC?
    YES/NO?

The chocolate babka from Green’s Bakery does’t seem to have the mini chocolate morsels on the top like the chocolate babka from Trader Joe’s.

Both are delicious; it reminds me of the kind that my mother use to by in Poland.
