McDonald’s is working to introduce a $5 value meal in U.S. stores…

* McDonald’s is working to introduce a $5 value meal in U.S. stores…

Just trying to keep you guys in the loop…

PUBLISHED FRI, MAY 10 2024
CNBC.COM

May 10, 2024

McDonald’s is working to introduce a $5 value meal in U.S. stores to help offset an increasingly challenging environment for consumers, two people familiar with the matter told CNBC.

The people said the $5 meal could include four items: a McChicken or McDouble, four-piece chicken nuggets, fries and a drink. The value meal was first reported by Bloomberg News.

The potential new offering comes at a time when low-income consumers are beginning to pull back on spending, particularly at fast-food brands. Mentions of low-income consumers on company earnings calls are at their highest levels in nearly two years, according to data from Bank of America. Executives from McDonald’s to Wendy’s to Dave and Buster’s have all noted the restraint in spending.

McDonald’s recently reported a mixed first quarter, with U.S. same-store sales slightly missing expectations. Higher prices helped grow average checks, but some consumers pulled back as a result of the steeper costs.

“Consumers continue to be even more discriminating with every dollar that they spend as they faced elevated prices in their day-to-day spending, which is putting pressure on the [quick-service restaurant] industry,” CEO Chris Kempczinski said on the company’s earnings call on April 30.

He added that McDonald’s has to be “laser-focused” on affordability to attract diners.

On the call, Kempczinski said the company is working on a national value deal in the U.S., and the company’s Chief Financial Officer Ian Borden said the U.S. leadership team was working closely with owner-operators in this environment. McDonald’s corporate and franchisees, who run 95% of McDonald’s locations and weigh in on such offerings, are often at odds over promotions that could eat into owners’ profits.

An initial proposal by McDonald’s for the $5 value meal did not clear necessary hurdles, and additional details are now being discussed, according to a person familiar with the process. A second person said Coca-Cola added marketing funds to the equation to make the deal more appealing.

McDonald’s declined to comment to CNBC. Coca-Cola did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Beautiful Loser is made up of 9 professional musicians with diverse but accomplished musical backgrounds, from Kentucky, Indiana, New York, Maryland and a few from right here in Florida. They all share the same love for the music of Bob Seger and that is evident as they re-create the music in an authentic and passionate way.
Add to this mix of talented band members the voice of Ken Hurley as Bob Seger. A veteran of the South Florida music scene (and of the Marines), Ken has earned a reputation as being a soulful singer with a great voice capable of singing anything and while that is true, it is when he sings what he really loves, that is really something special!

***** BurgerFi, 4343 North Ocean Drive, Lauderdale by the Sea 33308, (954) 489-0110.

Walked into this free-standing “fast food” burger joint last Saturday night—and immediately new that I was going to love it. The easiest way to describe BurgerFi–Shake Shack (see 8/1/10 review) meets Five Guys Famous Burgers (see 11/2/06 review) with indoor and outdoor “picnic table seating.”

Let me make this real simple…one of the best fast-food cheeseburgers and hand cut fries that I’ve had in a very long time.

At this stage of the proceedings, check www.burgerfi.com for menu/prices/photos.

I am telling you, if burgers and fries are your game, you are absolutely gonna love this joint.

As a 1949 “baby” I think I know a thing or two about the fast-food-burger industry. Trust me on this, old Jeff Eats has eaten his fair share of burgers and fries.

I think I know exactly what BurgerFi is “trying” to do here…The joint’s decor looks like a roadside fast-food burger joint circa 1950’s/1960’s with some-modern touches…throw in “gourmet” burgers and “upscale” fries-other stuff…and BurgerFi’s got all of the bases covered. It’s cooler looking than Five Guys but cheaper than the “upscale” full service-burger restaurants that are currently America’s latest craze.

Check Burgerfi’s site, there are a handful of pictures which will give you some idea as to what I am yapping about here.

Like I said before, if you like burgers, fries, hot dogs, custard…you’ll love this joint.

BurgerFi is open 7 days a week 11am-1am.
