Facebook RSVP for 2020-02-07 Stars of the 60s (Herman’s Hermits starring Peter Noone, Gary Lewis & the Playboys, The Vogues and The Box Tops) return to the Thrasher Horne Center

Stars of the Sixties are back at the Thrasher Horne Center, with an all-new line-up featuring dozens of hit records sung by the original artists who made them! Herman’s Hermits starring Peter Noone, Gary Lewis & the Playboys, The Vogues & The Box Tops.

You’ve seen him hosting television’s “My Generation”, heard him hosting his own show on Sirius XM 60s on 6, now hear all of his hits live in person – Herman’s Hermits starring Peter Noone will sing all their hits like “I’m Into Something Good”, “I’m Henry VIII”, “Mrs. Brown You’ve Got a Lovely Daughter”, “A Kind of Hush”, “Listen People”, “A Must to Avoid”, “Can’t You Hear My Heartbeat” and more!

In 1965, Gary Lewis & the Playboys released their first single, “This Diamond Ring” and it went straight to number one. In total, his first 7 releases hit Billboard’s Top 10 – among them “Count Me In”, “Save Your Heart For Me”, “Everybody Loves A Clown”, “She’s Just My Style”, “Sure Gonna Miss Her”, and many more. Gary still sounds just like his records and tells the stories only he can tell – growing up in Hollywood the son of one of the most famous stars on the planet, becoming one of the biggest rock stars of the sixties and touring the world with hits everyone knows and loves.

The Vogues took the nation by storm with a cavalcade of top-ten smash hits like “You’re The One” and “Five O’Clock World,” before transitioning from their blue-collared rock roots to the lush harmonies of pop-rock standards such as “My Special Angel” and the one that they recently performed on PBS-TV to a rousing standing ovation, “Turn Around, Look at Me.”

The Box Tops were trail-blazers in the 60s and one of the most influentiall bands of the era. They are back and better than ever featuring original members Gary Talley and Bill Cunnigham who played on all their hits like “The Letter” and “Cry Like a Baby”.

Don’t miss this one-night-only reunion of 4 of the biggest hit-makers of the 60s! A “Pop, Rock & Doo Wopp” production.

Chris Montez was one of the few American musicians who found success in the early 60s (“Let’s Dance”, “Call Me”) and then returned to the charts in the mid 60s with a fresh new sound (“The More I See You”, “There Will Never Be Another You”) despite the onslaught of the British Invasion. In fact, when he toured Liverpool, the Beatles opened for him and even gleaned some of his hip LA style.

Roll The Stones (The Venue Restaurant & Bar- Boynton Beach)

* Roll The Stones.

This one is for all you guys who like to follow Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats’ “social calendar”…

This coming Saturday Night, October 12th- we are gonna be the guests of our friends Angelina and Steven- to see Roll The Stones (one of the best Rolling Stones tribute bands in the business) at The Venue Restaurant And Bar, 8794 W Boynton Beach Boulevard, Boynton Beach, Florida 33472, (561) 200-0222, to celebrate Steven’s 64th birthday…

Should be a real good time!

The Venue Restaurant And Bar, 8794 W Boynton Beach Boulevard, Boynton Beach, Florida 33472, (561) 200-0222.

The Venue Restaurant And Bar- is an upscale restaurant/bar/live music venue which opened in Boynton Beach in August, 2018. Decent enough (though on the pricey side) American/Italian food, dynamite modern club decor, spotty-confused service, off the chart good-live Rock N Roll cover & tribute bands/ named act bookings, beyond belief- horrendous location (sleepy Canyon Town Center spot with a surrounding population of 22,000,000 recently retired NYC school teachers)!

Now, you guys and Jeff Eats both know that- this reviewing “gig” is purely a subjective call- you know, what I like, you may hate and vice versa! No question here- I could be wrong, but the way I see it, The Venue Restaurant And Bar is sort of like plunking down a “Tony Soprano” Pork Store right in the middle of a Hasidic Jewish neighborhood in Borough Park, Brooklyn!

Just a gut call, The Venue Restaurant And Bar won’t be long for this world. Like I said a few seconds ago- like plunking down a “Tony Soprano” Pork Store right in the middle…

The Venue Restaurant And Bar is open Tuesday-Saturday 4pm-late, closed Sunday-Monday.

Announcing their comedy line-up, year six of the Joke’s on You Comedy Tour will feature ‘Living Legends’… Artie Fletcher, Jimmy J.J. Walker & Bob Nelson! With over 80 TV Credits combined, THIS IS GOING TO BE ONE HECK OF A SHOW!

Artie Fletcher
Artie is one of the Entertainment Industry’s most talked-about “must-see” performers. No stranger to Film and Television, Commercials, Voice-overs, Print and Live Stand-up Comedy, Artie is taking the industry and Newstalk Radio waves by storm. Artie has been seen on Law and Order, Conan O’Brien, David Letterman and The Tonight Show just to name a few!

Bob Nelson
Watching a Bob Nelson live performance is like watching several different types of top comedians all rolled up into one. Characters like the lovable nerd Eppy Epperman, punchy boxer Jiffy Jeff and chicken rancher Wilby Stuckinson are as funny and memorable as any you will see in comedy today. A contemporary of Jerry Seinfeld and Jay Leno, Mr. Nelson’s extraordinary talents have been refined by a career that has included multiple appearances on the Merv Griffin Show, the Tonight Show and David Letterman.

Jimmy “JJ” Walker
Spotted by the casting director for Norman Lear of “All in the Family” fame, Jimmie accepted a part in Lear’s new urban-styled comedy series, “Good Times.” The role of the broadly strutting, wisecracking J.J. Evans would launch him into television superstardom. “Dyn-o-mite!” was the phrase that made him famous nationwide. He was the first winner of the NAACP Image Award, and won a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. He appeared on “The Mac Davis Show,” “Donny and Marie,” “The John Davidson Show,” “The Merv Griffin Show,” “Dinah,” “The Mike Douglas Show,” “The Hollywood Squares,” and the “Match Game.”

The most unpredicatable, unscripted comedy mayhem you’ll ever see…

***** Old School Philly, 20642 State Road 7, Boca Raton, Florida 33498, (561) 488-9606.

Got an absolutely dynamite Philly Cheesesteak joint for you guys to checkout- Old School Philly in Boca Raton.

Real simple tale to tell- Old School Philly opened something like 3 weeks ago, order at counter/food delivered to- handful of inside tables/2 outside tables, steak & chicken Philly cheesesteaks/ hand cut fresh French fries menu, 3 large flat screen tvs showing sports events, modern stainless steel decor.

Yesterday afternoon- Jeff Eats and 3 old Ithaca College buddies discovered Old School Philly and I gotta tell you guys that all 4 of us rated the joint’s cheesesteaks and fries- absolutely delicious!

Now, you guys and Jeff Eats both know that many “people” are extremly finicky as to what is and what isn’t a top-notch Philly Cheesesteak! With that in mind, I gotta tell you that Brooklyn born and bred Jeff Eats and Ithaca College buddies, Asbury Park born and bred Paul and Allen rated the steak and chicken cheesesteaks we had- off the chart dynamite! Philly born and bred Ithaca College buddy Len the “self proclaimed Philly cheesesteak expert” said and I quote…”Old School Philly’s cheesesteaks were delicious and better than, Pat’s, Geno’s, Woodrow’s, Dalessandro’s, Tony Luke’s and Steve’s- and almost as good as Barry’s, Jim’s and Philip’s cheesesteaks.”

Let me wrap Old School Philly up by saying- this joint is an absolute must try!

Old School Philly is open 7 days a week 11am-7pm.

You can check menu/prices/info at oldschoolphilly.com.

A recent e-mail received by Jeff Eats.

Jeff,
Long time reader. First time writer.
Just between you and me, where can I find a really good Italian meatball? I’ve been in Florida for 5 years (formerly from Detroit) and really haven’t found a joint that makes ones that are special. My wife and I live in__________, Coconut Creek, but we’ll drive for the right meatball. By the way, we’ve been to tons of joints all over south Florida.
Thanks,
Ronnie G

Ronnie G,

Not exactly sure where you’ve eaten or haven’t eaten- that said, based on your address try (if you haven’t already been there)….Gianni’s Italian Restaurant, 1601 East Atlantic Boulevard, Pompano Beach, Florida 33060 (954) 942-1733. To be perfectly honest with you- you sound kinda picky to me- but what the heck…

Thanks for reading…

***** Gianni’s Italian Restaurant, 1601 East Atlantic Boulevard, Pompano Beach, Florida 33060 (954) 942-1733.

I have been stuffing my face at Gianni’s for years. I don’t know how long this Southern Italian Joint has been in business, but my best guess is 20-25 years.

Real simple review…

Gianni’s is an absolutely terrific Italian restaurant. The food is delicious. The service is as friendly and as competent as can be. The prices are no more expensive than your favorite neighborhood “mom & pop” red sauce joint. Just so you know, Giann’s “enormous” garlic rolls are off-the-chart and worth the price of admission alone.

Gianni’s is open for lunch and dinner. If I were you, I would make a reservation, as the joint is always packed in the evenings.

Gianni’s is one of my favorite South Florida Italian Restaurants. Don’t miss this one.
