New Years Eve (Seminole Casino Coconut Creek- Coconut Creek)

* New Year Eve.

For you guys- who for some odd reason like to follow Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats’ social calendar…this year we are spending New Year’s Eve with a bunch of friends at the Seminole Casino Coconut Creek…

If you check- tomorrow night (12/31/19) the Casino has 3-top notch “complimentary” bands working 9pm-past midnight. Trust Jeff Eats on this one- if you’re into the Blues, Motown, Stones, the Seminole Casino Coconut Creek – got you covered!

Seminole Casino Coconut Creek
5550 NW 40th Street
Coconut Creek, Florida 33073
(954) 977-6700

The “outing” also has Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats and friends eating at the Casino’s 1st Street Deli…

Posted on August 1st, 2012
***** 1st Street Deli, 5550 Northwest 40th Street, Coconut Creek, Florida 33073, (954) 977-6700.

The 1st Street Deli is located inside the Seminole Casino Coconut Creek in Coconut Creek. Great looking joint, with table/booth/counter seating…looks like a NYC “kosher style” deli circa 1960…in addition, part of the “store” has an- The Original Brooklyn Water Bagel Company outlet (check Jeff Eats 8/11/09 review for Delray Beach location).

Just so you know, Jeff Eats always treats casino “restaurants” with a jaundiced eye…is the food any good? are the prices outrageous? is this just a tourist trap?

Got some good news for you on 1st Street Deli…

Tried 1st Street Deli the other night for dinner…matzo ball soup (bowl-$4.95), potato pancake appetizer (3 pancakes $5.95), pastrami on rye (with french fries $12.95), salad trio (1-scoop each of chicken salad, egg salad, tuna salad-$10.95), 8oz cheeseburger with french fries $11.95)—everything was A-OK! As a point of reference, I know a lot of you guys eat in Too Jay’s Gourmet Deli…the food at 1st Street Deli is better than Too Jay’s stuff (see Jeff Eats’ Too Jay’s review 3/28/09)…as a matter of fact, 1st Street Deli’s food is as good as the stuff served at most of the better bagel joints and New York Kosher Style Delis down here in sunny South Florida. For the record, although very good, 1st Street Deli’s food isn’t quite in the same league (although not by much) as TOP delis like the Pomperdale, Zinger’s or Ben’s (if you like, you can check Jeff Eats’ reviews for these 3 joints, if not, not!) On the pricing front, maybe a “drop” higher here and there-than your favorite bagel joint, but nothing that’s glaring…besides, if you spend the money on food, you won’t have to waste time “losing” it playing the slots—in any event, the Indians are gonna get the cash no matter how you slice it.

Check www.seminolecoconutcreekcasino.com for menu/prices.

One final thought, if you checked my review on The Original Brooklyn Water Bagel Company you’d know that it makes some real-good bagels. That said, I think that a bakers dozen at the Casino’s location fetches something like 14 bucks—now that’s a rip-off. One other thing on The Original Brooklyn Water Bagel Company, the casino’s website says that the “bagel” store is open from 6am-11pm–but when I was there at 9:30pm it “appeared” to be closed and its bagel display bins were totally empty…not good!

1st Street Deli is open 7 days a week 11am-11pm.

The Original Brooklyn Water Bagel Company is open 7 days a week 6am-11pm.

***** Mellow Mushroom, 25 SE 6th Avenue, Delray Beach, Florida 33483 (561) 330-3040.

Let me get the necessities out of the way…Mellow Mushroom is a very-casual pizza joint located in Delray Beach. Its menu is loaded with appetizers, salads, calzones, subs and pizzas…all at neighborhood pizza joint prices. The joint also has something like 100 beers, if that’s your game! A recent taste-test had me “sampling” a meatball ricotta pizza, greek salad, steak & cheese calzone and chicken parmesean sub. The food at this joint is absolutely dynamite.

Just so you know, Mellow Mushroom is a small-chain with joints in 15 states…there are a handful in Florida. The guys who own this company have a terrific concept…great food combined with a “retro-1960’s-70’s decor”…When I was eating at Mellow Mushroom, I “expected” Scott McKenzie, Grace Slick, John Densmore and H. Rap Brown to come walking in at any moment… Mellow Mushroom’s website www.mellowmushroom.com will provide you with menu/prices and loads of pictures “showing” that decor I just mentioned.

Real Casual. Great Food. Great Ambiance.

I highly recommend that you give Mellow Mushroom a try.

The joint is open Monday-Thursday 11:30am-11pm, Friday-Saturday 11:30am-midnight, Sunday noon-11pm.

Just in case some of you guys were wondering where-how Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats “celebrated” Christmas Day (12/25/19)…(not gonna go into the whole – Jews eating Chinese food on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day thing)!

NO IFS ANDS OR BUTS- ONE OF THE BEST CHINESE RESTAURANTS IN FLORIDA!

***** Tasty Wok BBQ & Noodle House, 1246 East Colonial Drive, Orlando, Florida 32803, (407) 896-8988.

Consider this tale a “Public Service Announcement.”

Jeff Eats first told you guys about Tasty Wok BBQ & Noodle House way-back on 2/13/13!

For what it’s worth, I’m kinda thinking that now that it’s SUMMER over the next 3-months, a number of you folks are gonna be visiting the Orlando area for various reasons (vacations, college enrollment, etc.). With that in mind, if you don’t “try” Tasty Wok BBQ & Noodle House, 1246 East Colonial Drive, Orlando, Florida 32803, (407) 896-8988- when you’re in Orlando- you’ll be making a huge mistake!

Trust Jeff Eats on this one, some of the best “real” and Brooklyn Jewish American Chinese Food circa 1957 in Florida!

Just so you know, Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats and a couple of friends ate there last Sunday night (6/4/17)- thus the “Public Service Announcement.”

No bs- this Tasty Wok joint could- easily compete with the best Chinese joints in New York City and San Fransico’s- China Towns!

***** Tasty Wok BBQ & Noodle House, 1246 East Colonial Drive, Orlando, Florida 32803, (407) 896-8988.

This is a very simple Chinese food “story.”

Jeff Eats recently tried Tasty Wok BBQ & Noodle House in Orlando and it was absolutely dynamite.

Real simple…this is a bare bones “hole in the wall” joint—ducks hanging from the ceiling.

Tasty Wok’s menu will please you-guys who want “real” Chinese food (whatever REAL means?)–and also guys like me who are looking for Brooklyn-Jewish circa 1950’s Chinese food.

A recent outing had Jeff Eats, Mrs. Jeff Eats and a bunch of friends doing:
1. wonton soup,
2. egg rolls,
3. fried meat dumplings,
4. roast pork,
5. sweet and sour pork,
6. general tso’s chicken,
7. shrimp in lobster sauce,
8. pepper steak,
9. roast duck
10. shrimp fried rice

Like I said a few seconds ago…absolutely dynamite. No fooling around here, some of the best Chinese food Jeff Eats has eaten in Florida.

Nothing for nothing, food and decor-wise, Tasty Wok could successfully compete with most of NYC Chinatown’s players. To be perfectly honest with you, I’d match Tasty Wok’s roast duck and roast pork up against NYC Chinatown’s best joints–any day of the week. Those two “items” alone, were worth the price of admission.

You Orlandoians got a homerun going here.

Tasty Wok is open 7 days a week 10:30am-9:30pm.

Just a “suggestion”—check the YELP reviews on this one. There are something like 100 reviews and other than a small handful—most folks loved Tasty Wok. The comments should “give” you some more color about Tasty Wok.

Isle Casino
777 Isle of Capri Circle,
Pompano Beach, FL, 33069
Info: (800) THE-ISLE islepompanopark.com/events

From islepompanopark.com

You ready for New Years Eve? It’s going to be a fun night here at Isle Pompano Park! In addition to great food and slots, you can also enjoy the music of Majesty of Rock, who will be rocking out and bringing us into the new year from 8:30pm to 12:30am.

If you’re not familiar, Majesty of Rock is a talented group of musicians who banded together to faithfully re-create the sound and feel of the two super groups: Journey and Styx. Fronted by the masterful voice of John D’Agostino, this band also boasts the talents of four exceptional artists who not only capture every nuance of Journey in their iconic Steve Perry days, but also the vocal essence of Dennis DeYoung and Tommy Shaw of Styx.
——-

And…before or after the concert or for that matter during a band break- catch a bite at- Myron’s Delicatessen which is located in the Isle Casino.

Posted on August 12th, 2008

***** Myron’s Delicatessen, 1800 SW 3rd Street, Pompano Beach, Florida 33069 (800) 843-4753.

Last night I played some poker at the Isle Casino & Racing at Pompano Park. After losing only 22 bucks (just in case my wife is reading this) I and a couple of friends had a “bite” at Myron’s Deli which is located in the casino-facility.

Myron’s is a New York City Kosher Style Deli…the joint is done-up to look like a deli circa 1950s. Just so you know, all of the restaurants at the Isle are owned/operated by the Isle of Capri Casino…take a look at its website at www.isleofcapricasino.com for a list of restaurants/hours/and other details.

Last night, Myron’s passed the pastrami, corned beef, brisket test. The sandwiches were nice sized. The meats were as good as those served in your favorite neighborhood bagel joint. As for prices, $3-$4 more than what the local joints get…Hey! come on, the casino is like a movie theatre or an amusement park, you are what they call a “captive audience,” so you pay more, it’s just that simple. Have you seen what it costs to “feed” a family of 4 at a Heat or Marlins’ game?

You now know about a joint where you can get a nice deli sandwich, soup, knish…assuming Lady Luck hasn’t entirely wiped you out.

Myron’s is open Sunday-Thursday 11am-1am and Friday-Saturday 11am-3am.

Don’t miss it!
