***** The Sticky Bun, 1619 Southeast 3rd Court, Deerfield Beach, Florida 33441, (754) 212-5569.

Gotta little secret I gotta tell you guys…every so often I find a joint that is so-good, that while I’m eating there- I’m already “thinking” as to how- fast I can get to the old computer and tell you about it! Trust Jeff Eats, it doesn’t happen too often, but it does happen!

With the above secret in mind, straight up- Jeff Eats is telling you, that you absolutely-positively have to try The Sticky Bun a “mom & pop hole in the wall-order at the counter/pickup at the counter diner”- handful of counter seats/inside & outside tables in Deerfield Beach.

Trust Jeff Eats when I tell you that this “diner” isn’t your ever-day run of the mill joint…When were you last in a joint that- cured its own bacon and baked fresh English muffins? Drop me a line when you remember where and when!

bacon

The Sticky Bun does breakfast and lunch. Its got all kinds of breakfast stuff, salads, sandwiches, baked goods, so on and so forth!

xcx11

Rather than my knocking myself-out telling you- how delicious The Sticky Bun’s scrambled eggs with bacon/English muffin, pulled pork arepa and sticky buns were…take a chance that Jeff Eats just might be right-on this one and give it a shot!

xcx8

xcx4

Like I said at the start, this is a hole in the wall joint- seating is super-limited…so don’t be planning on holding a wedding reception or an engagement party there!

A recent email to Jeff Eats.

Jeff,
My husband and I just moved to Florida this past May from Oceanside, New York.
These were our first Jewish Holidays here in Delray Beach.
Found some pretty good old style Jewish food, but couldn’t come up with really delicious stuffed cabbage.
Got some good places for us?
Thank you,
Anita F

____________

Anita F:

First thing first, welcome to Florida!

Second things second, it-wouldn’t have hurt for you to have told me where you “found some pretty good old style Jewish food…”

Anyway,

Third things third, Zinger’s Delicatessen (zingersdelicom) in Boca Raton and The Boys Farmers Market (boysfarnersmarket.com) in Delray Beach both make delicious stuffed cabbage!

By the way, if you already “got” stuffed cabbage from either one of these joints- and didn’t like-it…our taste-buds are definitely on different pages!

Thanks for reading…

NY Comedy Night Presents Barry Diamond with host Bruce Smirnoff (Boca Black Box- Boca Raton)

Posted on October 1st, 2015 · Boca Raton Deals Music/Events/Other · 2 Comments »

This article first appeared on 9/4/15. Just happened to notice that goldstar.com is running a deal-offering $15 tickets for 5 bucks. Trust Jeff Eats, I know that 10/1/15 (tonight) is a Thursday night- and that most people-down here in South Florida don’t exactly “run” to see comedians-on Thursday nights. Long story short, $5 for a ticket- and I know that Diamond and Smirnoff are absolutely hilarious-so just maybe you go see them live and leave the tv-on record!

From bocablackbox.com
Barry Diamond could have chosen to do anything he wanted to do. He could have been an astounding teacher or a financial wizard or a priest or a shepherd. Instead he chose comedy in spite of his actual talents. His credits are impressive. Diamond has appeared in “Seinfeld”, “Friends”, “Politically Incorrect”, “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and every movie with the word “party” in it. Bachelor Party, House Party I and II.

Barry Diamond is an absolute hit on stage; he’s a cut above the rest, with a high-calibre repertoire, which sees him undergo numerous character driven and personality changes with great effect. Seamlessly going from one to the other. He also has a powerful singing voice and opens and closes his performance with two superb numbers. Then he dances. He dances until he is shot in the neck with a tranquilizer dart.

* The Amazing Kreskin.

Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats have never seen The Amazing Kreskin-live!

No ifs, ands, or buts- Kreskin is the dean- of the mentalists’ game!

That said, Jeff Eats is thinking -if Kreskin was really “capable” of doing-what he claims to do…he wouldn’t still be working at the ripe old age of 80!

Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats will be there on October 24th- gonna see if we can figure out how he does “it”!

Should be a real fun-night!

A recent Jeff Eats’ reader e-mail.

Jeff,
I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York.
Lived there from 1946 to 1975 when I moved to Marlboro, New Jersey. Lasted there until I moved to North Miami after my divorce in 1987.
I went to Midwood H.S. I graduated from Brooklyn College in 1968.
From your blog I got a really good feeling that your food tastes are a whole lot like mine.
I love diners, delis and all kinds of dives.
What’s one of your best calls on a really nostalgic looking/tasting joint right out of our younger days in Brooklyn?
Love the blog,
Joe Kramer

Let me make this one short and simple…

Stephen’s with its formica tables–and formica counter seating has been around for something like 60 years. Sort of like entering a timewarp…NYC diner/NYC deli circa 1950’s-60’s.

Stephen’s which is open Monday-Friday 7am-3:30pm has the full gamut of breakfast dishes, sandwiches, burgers, deli meats-plates, “blue plate specials” like meatloaf–but only on Tuesdays.

I recently did lunch “trying” pastrami on rye, corned beef on rye, brisket with potato pancakes…and I gotta tell you, if I squint my eyes, I’m at… Sam’s Candy Store & Deli, Cortelyou Road & East 7th Street, Brooklyn, New York— 1957. I absolutely loved the food and “the place.”

I don’t know about you, but joints like Stephen’s hold a special place in old Jeff’s heart (now I’m going all sentimental on you)…

Otis Cadillac says…
Thanks to all that took the time to post nice comments about the band.

However, on the subject of “popular” material it has never been the band’s intention to appeal to a wider audience by playing familiar material. There are many excellent “oldies” bands that fill that genre.

To the contrary the band chooses overlooked vintage Blues and R&B classics to bring back to life. The band operates under 2 guiding principles: (1)To visualize what the original artists and songs would sound like today playing with contemporary musicians. (2) To create an atmosphere of excitement reminiscent to the early Rock N Roll shows when everything was new and magical. To the latter extent, certainly the rehashing of overly familiar material does not serve our vision.

While you may not get to hear your favorite “oldie” perhaps you will be lured into a new/old musical experience.

Thanks again for supporting live music and please feel free to say hello personally next time out.

Otis
