* 29th Annual Dancin’ in the Streets.

Not exactly sure as to why Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats have never “done” Dancin’ in the Streets before…

Just purchased 2-General Admission Tickets and 2-Tickets to see The Outlaws at The Lyric Theatre.

The Downtown Stuart Business Association has announced the 2016 lineup of musical acts for the 29th Annual Dancin’ in the Streets! The largest street party and music festival on the Treasure Coast will take place on six stages with over twenty bands from 3 p.m. — midnight on Sat., Aug. 20 in Downtown Stuart.

Anchoring the festival will be national headliners The Outlaws in a limited seating special performance at The Lyric Theatre. Rounding out this year’s lineup will be Ben Prestage, Public Sounds Collective, Nouveaux Honkies, The Humdingers and JessLee on stage one. Stage two includes The Sierra Band, Sister Baby, Nashville recording artist Raquel Renner and the Ramblers, Ladies of Soul and Relapse Band. Bryce Allyn Band, Smoking Section, Morning Fatty and Moska Project will perform on stage three. Tony Solomon and Fullhouse Entertainment present local amateurs and up and comers on stage four. And stage five includes performers Cassidy Diana, Chris King, 10k Hours, Deal James and Summer Gill, Sting Assassins and Ryan & Friends.

“Every year Dancin’ in the Streets brings incredible energy and fun to Historic Downtown Stuart,” said event chair Bill Moore. “This year promises to continue the tradition and deliver an amazing evening of live music, dancing, talent and community spirit.”

Limited tickets for this special indoor performance by headliner The Outlaws will be available starting in July at The Lyric Theatre box office and online at www.lyrictheatre.com. General admission tickets will be available starting in July at Seacoast Bank locations in Martin, St. Lucie, Palm Beach and Indian River Counties, at Sneaky Tiki, and at Kilwin’s Chocolate and Ice Cream in Downtown Stuart.

Every year, the streets of Downtown Stuart shut down and the community comes out for a day of live musical performances, food, drinks, vendors, kids activities and of course – dancing in the streets! It all began in the Summer of 1987, when a call was made to community leaders from the Stuart/Martin Chamber of Commerce to brainstorm a fundraising event that would keep the newly established Stuart Main Street program alive. Twenty-nine years later, Downtown Stuart is still Dancin’ in the Streets! Today, the event is presented by the Downtown Business Association of Stuart and Stuart Main Street. It continues to be Downtown Stuart’s biggest fundraising event, drawing thousands of people to the area each year. Funds from Dancin’ in the Streets support downtown revitalization efforts like outdoor dining, the Riverwalk expansion, and free community events including Hobgoblins on Main Street, Rock’n Riverwalk and Christmas on Main Street. In the past decade alone, Dancin’ has brought nearly 65,000 people downtown and raised almost a half-million dollars.

The event also supports volunteer groups from community non-profits. In 2015 contributions were made to the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast, the Stuart Police Explorers Program, Road to Victory Military Museum, House of Hope and Martin Volunteers.

Dancin’ in the Streets is sponsored by Coast 101.3, Courthouse Commons, LLC, Bud Light, Seacoast Bank, The Boat House, and Mulligan’s Beach House. For more information, visit StuartDancinIntheStreets.com or facebook.com/stuartdancininthestreets.

Life Lesson 101!

* Life Lesson 101!

A German Shepherd starts chasing rabbits and before long, discovers that he’s lost. Wandering about, he notices a panther heading rapidly in his direction with the intention of having lunch.

The old German Shepherd thinks, “Oh, oh! I’m in deep trouble now!”

Noticing some bones on the ground close by, he immediately settles down to chew on the bones with his back to the approaching cat. Just as the panther is about to leap, the old German Shepherd exclaims loudly,

“Boy, that was one delicious panther! I wonder if there are any more around here?”

Hearing this, the young panther halts his attack in mid-strike, a look of terror comes over him and he slinks away into the trees.

“Whew!” says the panther, “That was close! That old German Shepherd nearly had me!”

Meanwhile, a squirrel who had been watching the whole scene from a nearby tree figures he can put this knowledge to good use and trade it for protection from the panther. So, off he goes.

The squirrel soon catches up with the panther, spills the beans and strikes a deal for himself with the panther.

The young panther is furious at being made a fool of and says, “Here, squirrel, hop on my back and see what’s going to happen to that conniving canine!”

Now, the old German Shepherd sees the panther coming with the squirrel on his back and thinks, “What am I going to do now?” But instead of running, the dog sits down with his back to his attackers, pretending he hasn’t seen them yet, and just when they get close enough to hear, the old German Shepherd says…

“Where’s that squirrel? I sent him off an hour ago to bring me another panther!”

Moral of this story…

Don’t mess with the old dogs. Age and skill will always overcome youth and treachery!
Bull and brilliance only come with age and experience.

Real simple tale, Sonny’s Famous Steak Hogies is what Jeff Eats calls an “out of sight, out of mind” joint.

First told you guys about Sonny’s Famous Steak Hogies on May 30, 2013- hadn’t been back until yesterday when Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats did lunch- the 2-steak and 1-meatball hogies killed!

This Sonny’s joint is an absolute must try.

All I know, if Sonny’s was closer to my Boca Raton neighborhood, Jeff Eats would be a REAL GOOD STEADY CUSTOMER!

***** Sonny’s Famous Steak Hogies, 1857 North 66th Avenue, Hollywood, Florida 33024, (954) 989-0561.

Last Sunday night, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats were at the Hard Rock to see The Rascals in concert. Sitting next to us, were Lynee and Lou Cantor the owners of the “32 East” restaurant in Delray Beach…chit chat, chit chat—and Lou tells me, that if I want to eat great steak subs..then, I gotta try Sonny’s Famous Steak Hogies in Hollywood. Real fast, The Rascals killed it, absolutely fabulous concert…and plans are being set for Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats to check-out 32 East, which if the reviews in Yelp, TripAdvisor, OpenTable and various newspapers, magazines and publications are legit– is a terrific American Style joint (by the way, last night- Jeff Eats’ pal Eben–raved about 32 East’s hamburger, but then again Eben thinks that Ted Williams was better than Joe D. so his opinion maybe suspect-here).

To make a long story short…Lou really knows his stuff.

Jeff Eats got down to Sonny’s yesterday and “tried”– steak hogie, chicken parm hogie, tuna salad hogie, meatball hogie…and I gotta to tell you, this joint’s subs aren’t just good, they are amazing-good…right up there with the best that I’ve ever eaten…and you guys know that Jeff Eats has “done” his fair share of subs. Point of interest, Sonny’s bread is baked fresh every day—it alone is worth the trip…and we’re just talking about a sub roll here!

image

Just a drop of color…

Sonny’s has been in the same location since 1958. In addition to hot/cold subs, its got salads, pastas, pizzas—there is waitstaff service. Back in 2009, Guy Fieri did his tv show Diner, Drive-Ins & Dives there…so, this isn’t a hidden jewel discovered by Jeff Eats…yesterday at 1pm Sonny’s was jammed.

Just so we are straight, this guy-Guy Fieri as far as Jeff Eats is concerned, isn’t the be -all and end -all when it comes to knowing what great joint- food is all about. Nothing for nothing, but I honestly believe that huge-tv money/and other factors that have absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with food- “slant” Fiere’s opinions. Take this for what it’s worth…Jeff Eats has been to a number of Fieri’s “picks” and much of the food that he raved about was mediocre at best…While I’m on the “subject”–Jeff Eats for years has questioned the various “reviews” that appear in South Florida’s newspapers and other publications. You guys are smart enough to know, that you gotta-check joints out for yourselves. On the most basic level, what Jeff Eats likes, you may not like and vice versa.

Anyway- Guy made a good call on Sonny’s in that- its subs are definitely dynamite.

Real simple…whether you call them subs, hoagies, grinders or whatever your regional preference is—you will absolutely love and I do mean L O V E Sonny’s Famous Steak Hogies…and no, Jeff Eats didn’t -spell hoagies wrong, that’s what Sonny’s calls the sandwiches.

You can check menu/prices/video of Guy Fieri at www.sonnysfamoussteakhogies.com.

The joint is open Monday-Saturday 11:30am-9:30pm, Sunday 11:30am-8:30pm.

Finally…Jeff Eats always says, a solid given deserves a solid in return…or something like that–anyway, since Lou gave me the heads up on Sonny’s–why don’t you guys check-out 32 East at www.32east.com and “see” if it’s a joint that might be of interest to you…solid returned!

For our purposes Jeff Eats is gonna call Salerno Pizza “an out of sight, out of mind” mom & pop- red sauce Italian joint! Trust me on this one, Jeff Eats’ Boca Raton home isn’t exactly a hop, skip and a jump from Salerno Pizza which is in Stuart!

Long story short,

Jeff Eats first told you guys about Salerno Pizza way-back on May 28, 2009- truth be told, hadn’t been back until yesterday when Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats did dinner (large cheese pizza, large calzone, large tossed Italian salad) and I gotta tell you, we loved the joint in 2009 and we love the joint in 2016!

All Jeff Eats can tell you – if Salerno Pizza was in our neighborhood, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats would be real steady customers!

***** Salerno Pizza, 5557 Southeast Federal Highway, Stuart, Florida 34997 (772) 286-5505.

Salerno Pizza is my kind of a “red sauce” joint…this place reminds, me of many of the hole-in-the wall pizza joints that I grew-up with in Brooklyn way back in 1950’s-60’s. From what I understand, Salerno has been around for something like 28 years…the decor– red molded plastic booths/formica tables and you see the pizza guy making the pizzas (that figures) behind the counter.

Salerno has the full boat of appetizers, hot and cold subs, pastas, pizzas and meat/seafood/chicken entrees. Check its website at www.salerno-pizza.com for menu/prices.

Now use your head here… a veal parm dinner (salad, pasta side, garlic rolls) will set you back the princely sum of $12.95… a chicken parm goes you $11.95… and linguine & clams is gonna run you $9.95—gourmet stuff, now let’s not be silly. Good tasting stuff (by the way, the pizza is very-good) at super-reasonable prices…in a REAL PIZZA JOINT.

Salerno is open Monday-Thursday 11am-9pm, Friday-Saturday 11am-9:30pm and Sunday 5-9pm.

Michael Angelo’s Lasagna With Meat Sauce

***** Michael Angelo’s Lasagna With Meat Sauce.

Got something real good for you guys, Michael Angelo’s Lasagna With Meat Sauce!

Real simple tale to tell, Michael Angelo’s Lasagna With Meat Sauce is absolutely delicious! No bs-here, this “frozen” lasagna is as good- if not better than the lasagna with meat sauce served up by most of South Florida’s “mom & pop” red sauce Italian joints!

Just a word to the wise, although Michael Angelo’s Lasagna With Meat Sauce is microwaveable- it “comes out way better” when it’s cooked-up in a plain old kitchen oven! Trust Jeff Eats when I tell you, bake this lasagna (39 oz- $7.47- Walmart) for 70 minutes at 400 degrees and then broil for another 10 minutes- and you’ll have something really delicious going on! For sure “microwave” works- but it doesn’t even come close to the oven stuff!

Michael Angelo’s Lasagna With Meat Sauce comes in different weight-packages and is available all over Florida…Publix, Walmart, Whole Foods, Albertsons, Winn Dixie, Costco.

Check michaelangelos.com for retail locations/products/info. By the way, there’s a $1-Off coupon on the site- Hey! As my late Uncle Sammy use to say, “Better in your pocket than theirs.”
