***** Hobo’s Gourmet Kitchen, 421 Northlake Boulevard, North Palm Beach, Florida 33408, (561) 841-8305.

Let’s call Hobo’s a “neighborhood” diner…the joint has been around for something like 11 years. Check www.hobosgourmetkitchen.net for menu/prices. Table seating for about 100 and a small counter that handles 6.

Absolutely-nothing fancy going on here…as a matter of fact, absolutely-nothing gourmet going on here, either. That said, this is exactly the type of joint that old Jeff Eats loves to eat in. Think “short order” and you got Hobo’s number…loads of breakfast stuff, salads, grilled burgers, sandwiches—throw in a $7.95 “all you can eat” salad bar-and-for an extra buck-you can slurp all of the soup that you’d like.

Just so you know, I have eaten 2x at Hobo’s and have yet to see anyone wearing a tuxedo or for that matter a gown (nowadays gotta be politically correct), then again 1-meal was breakfast and 1-meal was lunch, so that may-be why? Really-good 1/2 lb cheeseburger/fries ($7)–grilled reuben/fries ($7.95)–western omelet ($5.95).

Like I said before, I got a special “place in the heart” for the Hobo’s of the world. It’s joints like this, that make eating out a worthwhile endeavor.

If you like diner-food, you’ll love Hobo’s.

Go figure!!…Hobo’s is open Monday-Friday 7am-3pm and Sunday 8am-2pm. The joint is closed on Saturday, like I said, Go Figure!

* 2016 Marketplace Music Fest- October.

Very nice lineup!

Jeff Eats has seen all of the listed bands- like I just said, very nice lineup1

The series is Free! Just bring yourself and a folding chair!

Keep this between us, other than a small handful of some pretty decent restaurants and a movie “complex”- the Delray Marketplace got absolutely nothing going on- that is, unless you need to buy a suit at Jos. A. Bank!

Like I said, the series is free, so go and enjoy!

* The Livesays.

Sometimes “words” alone can’t describe how good or for that matter how bad something is!

With that in mind, go check-out the band The Livesays at thelivesaysmusic.com for yourself.

This South Florida based-Rock n Roll covers/originals band is outrageously good. I’m talking “hit record recording” good.

If you want to see what a professional-top notch-band is suppose to sound, look and act like-then make it your business to catch The Livesays who play at bars/clubs/events/casinos all over South Florida.

Trust me on this, my words don’t even come close in describing how good The Livesays are.

A recent e-mail received by Jeff Eats from reader Janet Silverman…

Jeff,
My husband and I recently moved from Princeton, New Jersey to Tamarac, Florida. This will be our first year celebrating the Jewish Holidays in Florida. We are looking for really good prepared New York Kosher Style Food in our area that we can order and have at our home. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Janet Silverman

____________

Janet Silverman,

Got the perfect joint for you- The Pastrami Club in Lauderhill.

Over the years, Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats have eaten at The Pastrami Club numerous times- and the food has always been reasonably priced and absolutely delicious! Now, I maybe a bit presumptuous here- but if you’re thinking stuff like matzoh ball soup, chopped liver, brisket, roast turkey, noodle pudding, potato kugel, chocolate baka, rugalah- The Pastrami Club will definitely get the job done for you!

Thanks for reading…

Happy Holiday to you and your husband!

Jeff Eats

Here’s another “out of sight out of mind” joint for you…The Pastrami Club in Lauderhill.

Not gonna name names, but The Pastrami Club is one of but-a small handful of South Florida joints that come even close to being a New York Kosher Style Deli…

If you live in Pastrami Club’s neighborhood (which Jeff Eats doesn’t)- you now know where you can catch a good-deli fix! For reference, yesterday afternoon- a corned beef on rye/pastrami on rye/french fries/Dr. Brown’s cream soda- perfectly hit the spot! By the way, I would’a got a potato knish, but I’m on a diet-and while I’m on the subject of corned beef, you need some fat in the meat for taste, you guys who order lean/or extra lean are just eating sandpaper!

Printed down below is Jeff Eats’-May 3, 2008 “review” for The Pastrami Club…

(954) 748-0001

The Pastrami Club is open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner. The Pastrami Club (which has been around since 1985), is one of the “best” New York “Kosher Style Delis” in South Florida. Over the years I have “fressed” on this joint’s pastrami, corned beef, turkey (off the frame) and brisket sandwiches and loved each and every bite.

Cardiologists tell you to stay away from joints like this… last week I saw mine stuffing his face with a fatty corned beef on rye with a potato knish. “Do as I say, don’t do as I do.”

I am telling you, that you “gotta” try this joint. The combination of great food and “old” deli decor (red booths and formica tables), will remind you of what delis are “suppose to be all about.”

Check-out this joint’s website at www.pastramiclub.com for menu/prices.

End of story.

* Barbra Streisand.

Jeff Eats just got an e-mail about a PRESALE for Barbara Streisand’s December 3, 2016 concert at the BB&T Center in Sunrise.

If this works for you, great!

Just thinking out loud, last week Jeff Eats heard- that at a recent concert Streisand told the audience that- she would “move out” of the country if Donald Trump was elected President. Now, if I heard correctly and Trump just happens to win, Jeff Eats is kinda thinking that all you guys with December 3rd tickets are gonna have to find something else to do that evening!

Anyway,

Jeff Eats is hearing some real nice “buzz” about Ruggero’s Ristorante which is set to open on Friday, October 7, 2016 in Fort Lauderdale.

Just got invited to “try” the joint out a couple of days before it officially opens!

A taste of background, years ago- long before Jeff Eats was Jeff Eats- Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats (who at the time wasn’t yet Mrs. Jeff Eats) ate at Ruggero’s when it was located in Sunrise…the food and service were absolute dynamite! Hopefully, the “re-opened” Ruggero’s has the same delicious food and terrific service!

Jeff Eats will give you guys the skinny- after the Media Dinner!

PRESS RELEASE

RISTORANTE
Acclaimed Restauranteur John Albanese Brings His Refined Italian Dining Experience Back to Fort Lauderdale

To Open for Dinner Friday October 7, 2016

Fort Lauderdale, FL Back in January, 2005, Judith Stocks, one of the many reviewers who were wowed by the original Ft. Lauderdale Ruggero’s Ristorante, said in the Sun Sentinel, “Slow down or you’ll miss this sophisticated white-tablecloth spot, tailor-made for anyone with an appetite for an Italian restaurant with a side of steakhouse.” Restauranteur/Chef John Albanese enjoyed great success with Ruggero’s before he closed up shop to open and operate restaurants in the Northeast, and was most recently the lead consultant for Sofia Steakhouse in Englewood, NJ rated 4 stars by the New York Times.
Although the location of Ruggero’s Ristorante is new, located on Oakland Park Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale, the menu is reminiscent of the original with ample selections of the freshest seafood, pastas, prime steaks, house-made soups, breads, desserts and more. Favorite dishes that John Albanese is bringing back to his menu include:
• U1 Fresh New Zealand Langostinos – prepared Scampi-style
• Risotto Soufflé – encased in baby eggplant with radicchio and porcini mushrooms atop a creamy tomato sauce
• Zucchini Blossoms – stuffed with ricotta cheese and Parma prosciutto
• Bread and Garlic Soup – a house favorite
• Perciatelli Al Tonno – pasta with Sicilian tuna, capers, olives, garlic, and plum tomatoes
• 48 oz. Dry Aged Porterhouse for two
• Butcher cut Filet Mignon
• Brick oven Roasted Baby Suckling Pig for two with roasted Rosemary potatoes
• Fresh Maine Lobster – prepared many ways including Fra Diavolo, Broiled, Steamed, Sicilian-style, “Angry” Arrabbita, Lobster Tail Francese and Cognac Lobster Tail
• Whole Crispy Red Snapper – with angel hair crisp noodles and black bean reduction
• And so much more
The Miami Herald declared in its review of the original Ruggero’s Ristorante, “Exceptional. The restaurant does a fine job with its pastas and entrees, offering a varied selection of fish, steak, chicken, pork and lamb, as well as shrimp and lobster. Among the entrees we’ve tried have all been winners.” Since John Albanese is keeping and improving most of his original menu, the same high praise will certainly be true with the grand opening of the new Ruggero’s.
Ruggero’s Ristorante will open for dinner on Friday, October 7, 2016.
Daily Happy Hour will be Monday-Friday, 5-7 PM and will feature drink specials and discounted menu prices at the bar only.
Stay tuned for news on the Lunch service, scheduled to start in the next few weeks.
About Restauranteur/Chef John Albanese
John Albanese has authentic Italian cooking in his DNA. Both parents were professional chefs in Sicily before they relocated to New York, right before John was born. John’s father was the Head Chocolatier at Li-Lac, Manhattan’s oldest chocolate house, and John would accompany his father as he delivered his Li-Lac mousse to all the top restaurants in the city. As a teenager, John’s first job cooking was at the original landmark Ruggero’s Ristorante in Little Italy in NYC. In Fort Lauderdale, John opened the first Ruggero’s in 2001 on Sunrise Blvd. as well as Cocopazzo and Smoke Chophouse and Cigar Emporium which had the city’s first cigar bar. Most recently, John was the lead consultant at the highly-acclaimed Sofia Steakhouse in Englewood, NJ. The return of Ruggero’s Ristorante in Fort Lauderdale is one of the most highly-anticipated restaurant openings in South Florida.
